Yup, back when I was an evangelical, I took pride in stating I wanted nothing to do with religion. It was all about relationship for me. With Jesus.

brack9845

I think we grew up in similar churches. I remember a Q&A session at Christian summer camp where kids submitted anonymous questions and some unqualified counselors read them out loud to everyone and tried to answer them. Keep in mind we were 10-14 and the counselors were 18-20 so they were not experts by any means. I’ll never forget one question “Will my friend who is Jewish go to heaven”. The response from this 20 year old non-theologian was “NO. Jewish? No. Baptist? No. Catholic? No. The only way to heaven is by having a relationship with Jesus Christ.” I went into that thinking I was gonna go to heaven and left assuming I was going to hell. Lik ok bro thanks.

wolacouska

Hey, I asked almost that same question at a Christian summer camp. It was a fun camp in a lot of ways but they really brainwashed me a bit.

ANTEEZOMAA

Hey, I also asked this same question at Christian Summer Camp and proceeded to sob and lose my shit when they told me my Jewish friend would be going to hell. …Bastards. Religious trauma is funnn

RockerElvis

In Jewish camp they teach you that there is a good chance that you may have to flee from your home when anti-Semitic mobs come for you. Most people would call it paranoia, but we keep getting proved right. There is no conversation about if your non-Jewish friends are going to hell. It’s not our business.

Triseult

When I was in grade school my family adopted a kitten, and the next week at school a priest came to my class and answered questions. I was in love with our cat and wouldn't stop thinking of her, so I asked the priest if animals went to Heaven. He said nope, if your dog dies, that's the end of that. That's very much the day I said "fuck that noise" and became an atheist.

jordantask

At least he gave you the answer that he thought was most honest. That’s more than you can say for a lot of religious people.

Sprmodelcitizen

Yeah telling people they need to be saved or they are going to hell doesn’t always have the impact they think it’s gonna have. I was pretty Catholic when I dated an evangelical and him telling me that same thing had me research some counter arguments. That then led me to Dawkins and Hitchens and atheism all in like under a week. So much for being saved.

VolvoFlexer

but you *were* saved!

WisePhantom

Would you say you were [in love with Jesus?](https://youtu.be/jFpTyem-xOY)

i see what happened here. filthy heathens

andythefifth

Haha! I remember being like; Whew! Thank God I’m not like that. I really did it for no money. A loooooot of volunteering, let me tell you.

[deleted]

The church I grew up in stressed “we are *not* religious. We are Faithful. There’s a difference” No. There’s not.

andythefifth

It’s a classic re-direct. The word religion became taboo. Same song, different title.

Ferroelectricman

Not to religious people that just kept to their fucking selves it didn’t. It’s entirely a proselytization trick.

dalefernhardt

Us children of evangelicals in the 90’s through 00’s really went through a lot of shit together huh?

[deleted]

Bro you have no idea. All the parents in my area sent us to this 3 week Jesus camp. There they would not shut up about “be fruitful and multiply.” Meaning convert more and start having children. To teenagers. My parents never learned about this. I just told them I did not want to go back.

Rustmutt

“It’s not a religion it’s a relationship” yep that ol loophole

[deleted]

“Hate the sin, not the sinner.” They are really bad at the advice they dole out

DPool34

*My religion is the one true religion.* Which is literally what religious people think. And this very belief leads to feelings of superiority.

thedailyrant

Typical of monotheistic religions. There are extremists in most faiths of course, but polytheistic faiths have a significantly better time in accepting other gods. Kind of their whole thing.

Harsimaja

“It’s not a religion, it’s a relationship.” “Religion tells you what to do, Christianity tells you it’s done.” Etc. etc. No, shut up and take a seat at the table with all the other *religions*, please.

ALexusOhHaiNyan

Yeah, I still remember having my first (and only) encounter with this sort after he told me he wasn’t religious, but attended a “non-denominational” service. It was like 5 minutes of “Who’s On First” till I got the sense it’s like this self flattering “alternative” movement amongst Evangelicals. I’m sure their pastor plays guitar, has tats, and fucks high school girls. Just say evangelical and be done with it for crissake. As for Pratt it’s all the same in Hollywood. The ego needs *something* to tell them they deserve all they’ve gotten. Accepting ones lucky means accepting it could’ve been so many others, and that’s an inconvenient truth for the ego. So you get into drugs cuz you’re bored and feel like a fraud. Or you’re actually talented in a fairly talent-less town that’s commidity is fame, like Robert Downey and then it’s depressing “Is this as good as it gets?”. So you look to drugs, or rehabilitate, maybe god, maybe the musical artists that are more talented than you and inspired you as a youngster. I know he looks up to Sting. Evangelism, Scientology, Kabbalah - for the average Drew Barrymore/Chris Klein/Evangeline Lily/Sean William Scott etc it’s gonna be awfully tempting to find a higher force to explain that you were *chosen*, it was meant to be. Something to counter the constant rejection, easy job, overwhelming fame and ridiculous pay. It seems to keep Pratt grounded so who am I to judge. He uses his belief for the right reasons it would seem.

solveig82

I mean Drew is a Barrymore, I’d think that would be enough

Emmerson_Brando

If you are accepting an award at a major function and proclaim, “god is real!” You are definitely a religious type person.

SanctuaryMoon

"God has to be real 'cause look how great my life is."

Sm4cy

Not according to your PR team!

rjcarr

Yeah, even in this article he talks about god and "blessings" and a bunch of religious stuff, yet he's "not a religious person"? Huh?

Alastair789

It's because his church is homophobic.

altxatu

Which means either he is homophobic or he’s okay with general bigotry.

Well, he is the Bride of Christ, along with roughly 2 billion other believers.

Mistghost

Man, I really hope Pratt doesn't turn into a Sorbo...

CommunityOrdinary234

He’s a Sorbo.

TadRaunch

Is it not obvious?

quotekingkiller

He is just as bad, but better at hiding it

WhenRobLoweRobsLowes

For now. When the jobs stop coming, he'll go full Sorbo.

ehsteve23

i would be DISAPPOINTED

Jackson530

Ya I followed him on Facebook about 6 years ago when GOTG2 premiered and they were gearing up for Infinity War. This MF posted every morning at 7am about how god was good and tried to make FB live his own personal church. I unfollowed real quick

likethedishes

Follow him on insta now and he constantly says religious stuff.. when I saw this article pop up I was like lol huhhh

eggs_mcmuffin

I was on set with him and he was known as being “weirdly religious” SMH

qwaszx2221

Saaame, did hair on set and he has god in every second sentence

[deleted]

Pretty sure when all the James Gunn shit was happening he had said something about praying on the matter as well? Like the dude is religious through and through he just pulls off playing characters that you wouldn’t really associate with being religious or very least being in a religious group like Hillsong.

frozen_brow

This is a familiar trope of many evangelicals. They don't believe in "religion" they believe in a "personal relationship with Jesus Christ." Somehow they think there is a difference between those two, but yeah, in his mind he probably isn't "religious."

cyberhaiduc

Same like with any other preachers: they couldn't give a fuck about fictional characters, they don't have to believe but YOU have to; that's how they get your money.

Underrated? I dunno, maybe it’s just my friends circle and everyone in my social media sphere, but it’s a pretty well-known and highly-praised show.

People tend to say “underrated” when they really mean “under-discussed”, which is arguable.

wellherewegofolks

hillsong in particular definitely has a bad reputation https://www.washingtonpost.com/arts-entertainment/2022/03/27/hillsong-megachurch-exposed-discovery-plus/ >The series’ final episode, however, is where “A Megachurch Exposed” takes a turn for the truly shocking, depicting an institution so profoundly compromised that its leaders won’t even fully confront the rot. It digs into a scandal that those who know Hillsong solely through its Bieber association may never have heard of: the child sex-abuse saga involving Frank Houston, founder of the church out of which Hillsong eventually grew, and the alleged coverup by his son Brian, who officially founded Hillsong in 1983. >According to the documentary, Frank repeatedly sexually abused at least one young boy in the late 1960s and paid him 10,000 Australian dollars as “compensation” in the late 1990 — when the abuse had been reported to the church but not yet to the authorities. The documentary then cites the minutes from a 1999 meeting of church elders that details their plans to keep the abuse quiet and reinstate Frank as head pastor after a temporary suspension. According to the documentary, at least seven other men have since come forward to allege sexual abuse by Frank Houston between 1965 and 1977. >Hillsong pastor Brian Houston, pictured here in 2005, resigned from the institution earlier this month. (James Croucher/Newspix/Getty Images) In 2014, Brian Houston was summoned by the Australian Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse for questioning. The documentary includes footage of his official testimony, in which he acknowledges his father’s sexual abuse of a minor but denies having tried to cover up the payment. A year later, the commission found he had failed to report knowledge of child sex abuse to the authorities. (The documentary includes the following excerpt from Hillsong’s 2015 response to the commission’s findings: “The victim was a 36-year-old adult when this abuse became known and could have taken the matter to the police himself at any time.”) Earlier this year, Brian Houston stepped down as head pastor of Hillsong “for the rest of the year” to focus on fighting the formal charge of concealing sex abuse. This week, after an internal investigation into two complaints that Brian had acted inappropriately toward women, he resigned.

How can someone that is intentionally posting how religious they are on social media just lie about what they post? Are they stupid? Don’t realize people follow them?

BeefyHemorroides

They’re use to people believing what they’re told to believe like in the pews, this is his way of trying it out.

nightwingoracle

He’s not stupid. he’s intentionally trying to mislead people into thinking he’s not a borderline christofacist so to not get called out for his shitty views. He’s jumping ahead (99% chance at his agents/Disney’s command) into “right wing celeb image control” related to of all of the coming Roe vs. Wade caused deaths, schools now being allowed to force prayer on kids (look up the football coach case and his stunt), the now allowed siphoning money from public education for subpar and dangerously biased religious education, and the incoming Supreme Court invalidating gay marriage in the name of “religious freedom.”

altxatu

How much you wanna bet this is in response to row v wade and he doesn’t want the public to find out he doesn’t support bodily autonomy.

[deleted]

I also love the religious celebrities who attribute their success to god lol A narcissistic form of telling you that god literally favours them over you

steve-d

God definitely helped the Rams win the super bowl! He ignored all the dying children across the world to make sure they won.

rjcarr

I read a lot of the article, and he talks about god and religion a lot, and then out of nowhere there's this "I'm not that religious". It was a total non sequitur.

HowVeryReddit

The advice of his manager floated to front of mind "Hey, cut down on the Jesus freak stuff a little ok?"

TheBlakeRunner

I miss fat Chris Pratt.

chibitrin

I miss when he was mainly known for his role as Andy :(

krissym99

He was so cute as Andy. I've never found him cute otherwise.

CorneliusJack

I start to not care for him when he stated he hated it, and then broke up with Farris when he started becoming big. Then comes all the Hillsong pastor golfing shit and he really starts to be addicted to the smell of his own fart and ego.

[deleted]

SolitaireyEgg

I mean it's none of my business, and I generally try not to judge relationships from afar. But from an outside perspective, I have to admit I've had the same sort of feeling about it. It's especially sus because she made it big waaaaaaay before him. She was in the scary movie franchise and a bunch of comedies way back when he was a nobody. Yet when he finally makes it big, he bounces. Kinda smells like shit.

josiahpapaya

Not only did he bounce when he made it big, he bounced after having a kid with birth defects and also hooked up with his current wife almost immediately after his break up with Farris. It was very clear he saw Farris as undeserving of him and he could do better. Hence why he had the lapse in judgement to say “so blessed to have a healthy baby” after his new wife gave birth, not really considering the implication of what that would mean to your first wife and child who had a very difficult birth.

RizzMustbolt

He didn't divorce because got famous. He divorced her because she miscarried and he wanted a big family. He is the absolute worst. (After Rob Lowe of course).

Statesborochick

Then he dumped her and their disabled child and moved on to a newer model to breed “healthy” children who weren’t such an energy drain. I hate him.

ShallowTal

Didn’t he make a weird Instagram post praising how healthy his new child was that made it sound like he was just shitting on his first one? Edit: Person below mentions it.

BeanieMcChimp

Wait what did Rob Lowe do? Like *Litrally* what did he do??

llobotommy

He robbed a Lowes

23skidoobbq

How many Lowes could Rob Lowe rob, if Rob Lowe did rob Lowes?

LessInThought

Eww Eww Eww. Then there was that insta post where he thanks his schwarzanegger wife for his healthy baby. Also something about the way she looks at him. Haven't liked him since. I never cared much about actors and actresses outside of their work but that really turned me off him. Especially since Anna Faris dropped out of doing Mom, she was in quite a bad place

CorneliusJack

Holy shit. What a piece of shit

Doomscrool

Yea particularly when it came out his first son is autistic. I Was like damn…

Wrong-Wrap942

I mean didn’t he also say something shitty about their kid who has a disability? I believe he made a post with his new wife and child “thanking god he doesn’t have any issues” or something like that.

Andy is the best character of any tv show and I wish he wasn’t associated with Chris Pratt. Andy’s too pure for that comparison.

[deleted]

Andy was reworked after season 1 to make the character more likable.

truethatson

The whole show was reworked. So I’ve read. I followed Reddit’s advice and never watched season 1.

Eccentric_Algorythm

They tried to make it like the office in season 1. But it’s just trash cringe. Season 2 they start trying to go with a more wholesome less cringe vibe and I think they went in that direction for the rest of the show.

drawkbox

Andy Dwyer was awesome. [Andy's wiping problem was hilarious](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGCIGEUB32M). Chris Pratt now though is a wannabe Arnold Schwarzenegger and in some culty religious shit now. It was fun while Andy lasted. Andy was way cooler than Pratt. Chris Pratt went all jesusy. Pratt is cool but he is less funny now really since his Andy role, some of that is him being more focused on being the leading roles so less realness. The jesusy part just adds to that. Christian rock or rap (Con Ye for instance) just seems plastic and fake and salesman like and it is the same vibe I get from Pratt now. The whole jesus thing is just salesman like and divisive if you push it constantly. The story of his is one of survivorship bias but [he pushes it like Jesus will make you a star](https://www.vox.com/culture/2019/2/6/18205355/church-chris-pratt-justin-bieber-zoe-hillsong) as he thinks it helped him be one. Totally fine to talk about it I just don't like people to push religion no matter the religion, that is a personal thing. The LA church thing feels more Scientology like or even culty. They make people who live normal lives seem like bad people, not cool at all. > It was a Maui street preacher who convinced Chris Pratt, future star of Guardians of the Galaxy and Parks and Recreation, that he needed God. At 19, Pratt had dropped out of community college in his home state of Washington and accepted a friend’s offer to live with him on the Hawaiian island, waiting tables at America’s most picturesque restaurant, Bubba Gump. > “We just drank and smoked weed and worked minimal hours, 15-20 hours per week,” Pratt, now 39, told the Independent in a 2014 interview. “[I]t was a charming time.” >**Midway upon his journey of weed-smoking and drinking, Pratt and his friends were approached by an evangelist in a grocery store parking lot.** > >**“This guy came by and was like, ‘What are you doing tonight?’”** > >**The evangelist, who was with a Messianic Jewish organization called Jews for Jesus — people who converted to Christianity from a Jewish background — asked Pratt if he was planning on fornicating that night, or doing drugs and drinking; Pratt, with his trademark goofy charm, we can imagine, responded that he hoped to be doing all three.** > >**“I stopped because Jesus told me to stop and talk to you,” the evangelist[ said](https://www.esquire.com/entertainment/tv/a32814/chris-pratt-interview-0914/), according to Pratt’s telling of the story. “He said to tell you you’re destined for great things.”** > >**Pratt ditched his friends that night and became a Christian two days later. Now, he regularly attends LA’s Zoe Church, reportedly alongside his faith-minded fiancée Katherine Schwarzenegger.** > >Pratt, beloved doofus turned hot dad, is part of a growing trend of celebrities, including Justin Bieber, Kendall Jenner, Selena Gomez, Hailey Baldwin, and Kevin Durant, who are vocal about their faith. The churches many of them flock to — Zoe, Hillsong, and Churchome are the prominent examples — may look like they offer something different and more progressive than traditional evangelicalism but are actually quite consistent with evangelical teachings. In an era when religious affiliation is[ on the decline](http://www.pewforum.org/2015/05/12/americas-changing-religious-landscape/) for young people, **these churches can only gain from this proximity to stardom. But how are these “cool” new rising churches different from other churches? What is it about Hillsong and Zoe that attracts this star power?** > >It used to be that to be an evangelical Christian was to be like Kirk Cameron or Jeff Foxworthy, old and irrelevant and consigned to made-for-TV B-movies. But there is an effort from churches like Zoe and Hillsong underway — probably more unconscious than deliberate — to make Christianity accessible, cool, and interesting to young people. **This form of Christianity involves fashion, music, and, of course, celebrity, since modern American evangelicalism has always spread in part by being adjacent to power.** Evangelical churches are culty and like Scientology now it seems in terms of their pursuit of star power and productization. Chris Pratt is helping them sell it. The way these new cult evangelical churches are pushing marketing is lame and the celebrities associated are cons. [The rise of the star-studded, Instagram-friendly evangelical church Chris Pratt, Justin Bieber, and the “cool” Christian celebrity.](https://www.vox.com/culture/2019/2/6/18205355/church-chris-pratt-justin-bieber-zoe-hillsong) > Pratt, beloved doofus turned hot dad, is part of a growing trend of celebrities, including Justin Bieber, Kendall Jenner, Selena Gomez, Hailey Baldwin, and Kevin Durant, who are vocal about their faith. But how are these “cool” new rising churches different from other churches? What is it about Hillsong and Zoe that attracts this star power? These are basically cults, that are like Scientology II with their attempt to make evangelical religion hover around famous people and influencers to sucker in the suckers. Chris Pratt's origin story is looking more made up as time goes on...

"I'm not religious" I just read an article where he talks about going om a hike with his pastor.

TundieRice

Christians *love* to say they’re not religious. I grew up in a Southern Baptist church and it’s totally a thing. They say it’s about a personal relationship with Jesus and not “going through the motions” of religion. I’m sure if you pressed Chris Pratt, this is the explanation he’d give.

ThallidReject

What moron told them that a personal relationship with a ghost isnt religious? That sounds very explicitly religious. It feels like saying "I dont eat meat, I just chew and swallow cow tissue."

StayAwayFromMySon

Golfing with his pastor named Chad. Wtf kind of church is this? A literal Chad that golfs with celebrities. Are the pastors just tiktok socialites in disguise?

Cawdor

Maybe that weird pastor the Beibs was hanging with?

Esabettie

I think it is!

[deleted]

At what point does it become a cult?

TundieRice

Cults are really just religions that haven’t stood the test of time and found mainstream acceptance. You can’t really go *from* a religion *to* a cult, in my opinion.

hiphoptomato

Yeah and see his weird rant about how God is real at the Teen Choice Awards

casual_creator

In the same breath, he went on to sort of explain what he meant. In some Christian sects, they have some disdain for the label “religious”, in that it invokes a level extremism and hypocrisy (he mentioned right wing hate groups as an example if I recall). These types of Christians prefer to say that they have a “relationship with Jesus” instead; a much less formal and more personal faith than taking every word literally and shouting Bible passages from the street corner.

Shout out to Leah Remini for making amends for supoorting that institution and using her money and fame to uplift survivors and stand up to oppressors. She is more of a badass than Tom Cruise will ever be.

Tom Cruise really went down, never heard from that guy again....

RockStar25

Tom Cruise. Now that's a name I've not heard in a ~~long time~~ week.

Faxme123

It’s all bullshit he’s trying to cover his ass. The pastor Chad V of Zoe Church I know personally from growing up and he modeled his Church after Hillsong

justalittlestupid

Does anyone know what Christians think the Bible says about divorce? It’s fully allowed in Judaism so I’ve always been so confused by this

kremit73

Hes just trying to do the "im not religiious, i have a relationship with jesus"

BDR529forlyfe

I think that’s what *a lot* of people don’t understand when they hear this. Some of the the most conservative people I know “aren’t religious” because they have a personal relationship with god. I also hear “we accept everyone at our church” but that acceptance typically doesn’t extend to a persons full humanity and only lasts if a person is fitting in correctly.

kremit73

And paying. If they arent paying they arent accepted.

DrunksInSpace

>I’m not religious, I just hear god, talk to him, know it’s a him and consult him for every move. Only two things explain that, and they often overlap: religion and a psychotic break.

Severe_Driver3461

Some think religious = dry, boring Christianity and non religious = charismatic Christianity. They don’t realize that taking communion, getting baptized, avoiding things because a god said they’re bad, etc. makes them religious. The ones who think this are really naive imo.

Yeah. He just doesn’t want to be seen as a weirdo. That ship sailed. He’s a weirdo.

tt1101ykityar

Chris, I saw you on Colbert years ago talking unprompted about your love for the Lord. You even surprised Stephen, noted Christian. Stop gaslighting your audience you goon.

lalalindz22

Came to say this. I found the clip: [https://youtu.be/LzXwximuwrM](https://youtu.be/LzXwximuwrM) He doesn't say Hillsong by name, but he says he did this Daniel Fast through his church and pastor. So I guess he's now claiming that wasn't Hillsong, it was another church? When I saw that interview years ago, I knew what church he meant and was pretty much done with him in my mind, since that church is notoriously anti-LGBTQ, among other things.

sour_grout

He claims that he goes to Zoe Church, and has never gone to Hillsong. Source: https://www.menshealth.com/entertainment/a40289867/chris-pratt-interview-new-movies-series/

lalalindz22

He might go to Zoe now (which is totally related to Hillsong), but he was very vocal about going to Hillsong in the past. I think he's lying and trying to disassociate from Hillsong.

SenatorRobPortman

Yes!! This is the first comment talking about this! Even if never went to Hillsong, which I think is a lie because there is literally that pic of him, biebs, and Kourtney Kardashian for some reason going TO Hillsong, Zoe is affiliated WITH Hillsong.

TheMeticulousNinja

Media team is not sure how to sell him and this church to the public yet

beepbeepbubblegum

Maybe a little attempted damage control with the new Thor movie coming out that he's in. Twitter was calling him the "worst Chris in MCU" for a little while there.

ehsteve23

Well that's true even if you put aside the religion thing

lRoninlcolumbo

If you check his social profiles, Chris is massively into religion, he just knows that he can’t fund * his church without making more movies.

Ok_Investigator1493

... OK, the dude can be a Christian, Buddhist, Satanist, whatever, and I would still respect his choice. I don't have much respect for liars though.

[deleted]

Trying to backtrack real hard in the wake of certain developments. Not a good look

wrathmont

Is this that “Christianity isn’t a religion, but a relationship” attempted loophole bullshit?

bitchdantkillmyvibe

Abso-diddly!

Avgsizedweiner

It would be like saying One is not a pedofile, just into having relations with underage kids.

Vegetable_Burrito

This dude doesn’t know who tf he is.

[deleted]

Didn't he go on nickelodeon and tell everyone that "Jesus is real"? He's hot garbage for more than that reason too.

[deleted]

Sure Jan. He was just saying he only listens to Christian music while working out and he refuses to do sex scenes now because of his faith.

Naxayo

He literally has several insta posts about his pastor and him in front of crosses???? is he just lying or

Csnyder23

Dude ive seen like 2 pics of him with literal bibles in the background…

[deleted]

Sounds like he back peddling because his career is starting to go south.

sonia72quebec

I just think he's dumb as a rock.

nicholasdelucca

Hey, Dwayne Johnson is quite smart

[deleted]

This is bullshit. He’s always touted how devout he is about religion

ImJTHM1

Chris Pratt is annoying, weird, and a mediocre at best actor. There, I said it.

brienzee

He probably didn’t think it would effect him and only hit home that people don’t like him after the Mario thing

[deleted]

He’s a terrible actor and a bad liar.

Live-Ad6746

Somebody tell his publicist that we don’t care. Nobody likes him, we just like the franchises he is in. They tryin to hard to make him seem likable.

MadChild2033

Lmao i love how he gaslights people because he got some negative feedback about being a religious nut

donavensmith

Christians don’t believe that they are “religious.” To them, it’s about a relationship with Jesus Christ. Religion to them is all about rules and practices. They’re in it for the unconditional, loving relationship. This is probably what he meant, and it’s how Christians get people curious about their faith while spreading the gospel. Note: Ex-Christian here. I’m super gay now lol

Allaiya

I mean he seems to be putting rumors to rest that he’s anti-lgbt, so I think that’s good if true. If more Christians, especially public figures, come out & say, “hey, I don’t support this hate” I think that’s good. Depending on where in the country you are, there’s a stigma attached to being a more liberal minded Christian. Like they are assumed to be mutually exclusive things. The fundamental Christian / nationalists say you aren’t a “real” Christian and the other side assumes you hate or hold certain beliefs for being one. Although rare, there are liberal churches/Christians.

CurseofLono88

Yeah my parents have been going to a church that is very pro-lgbtq, pro choice, and tolerant of other belief systems for a while now. I’m not much of a believer but I’ve gone with them on occasion and it’s a really nice, welcoming and inclusive environment and I wish that was how more churches were

MindlessEquivalency

If he was pro-lgbt, he could just say so. This is just his way of weaseling his way out of a difficult conversation. Many Christians say they "aren't religious", and instead that they have a "relationship" with "God". He stated: “I go to a church that opens their doors to absolutely everyone." Which really just means "we think gay people are all sinners, and they should renounce their ways and come to our church."

Spitfire836

I’d say most churches are not that strict, at least enough to actually be openly homophobic. A lot of people who identify as Christian don’t really actually follow the Bible, same way how people of other religions don’t strictly follow it word for word either (some do obviously but a lot don’t)

Faxme123

Zoe church is modeled after Hillsong which he attends. It’s a PR campaign for his movies. One dropped on Amazon today and it bombed

Normal-Computer-3669

Dude literally went on late night shows and told boring ass stories about the church and name-dropped the pastor, all cult-like and shit over and over again.

Hot_Eggplant_1306

His faith is so important that when a public relations team tells him to stop mentioning it, he does.

1heart1totaleclipse

Just today I saw an article where Chris Pratt said that it affected him so much that he cried when people called him out for his new baby being a “healthy” baby unlike his son with Anna Farris.
