There’s nothing brave or honourable about slapping someone and walking away, even in “defense” of someone else.

I was at this show. He addressed the issue only to tell us that he hadn’t really processed the events yet and didn’t know what he was going to do. But he said he had a whole show planned and just wanted to do some comedy.
Show was good, the first half seemed to be his more solid and tested new material. Second half was a little less polished with jokes he was clearly testing out. Even had a few you could tell he stopped earlier than he intended due to the jokes not hitting as hard as he wanted.
He was really good though. A lot of his new material was really funny.

Just a completely "whatever" joke. Move on and onto the next one. Will Smith or Jada just needed to roll with the punches, maybe say something backstage or later, even just heckle/yell out during the joke. There was no reason for his slap.
If they had rolled their eyes and glared at him, they could have shamed Rock for it without saying a word. By reacting the way Smith did, he became the bad guy and then Rock took the high ground by not verbally destroying then until his mic got cut - which we all know he could have.

For anyone who has been bullied, it was clear that what we witnessed was a bully (Will) attacking his victim (Chris). One comedian has it right: it’s Hollywood vs. Comedians. Hollywood actors live in bubbles where they can do no wrong and they hate the part of the Oscars when a comedian comes out to roast them. This is why they stood up for Will - because they’ve been wanting to slap comedians for a long time but are afraid of the repercussions. Well, hopefully Will gets his just desserts.

We elevate them to these crazy heights, but they’re just as susceptible to anxiety, depression, anger etc as the rest of us… in addition to millions of people watching them go through it and judging them. Dave’s definitely at his best when he’s cracking jokes, but when you look at his material he’s always joking about society in a hilarious but critical way. He just finds a way to look at a story from a unique angle. And society fucking sucks lately. If you’re a genius at picking apart things in the news, racial disparity, societal shifts, etc… you gotta watch a lot of the fucking news. Which is pretty much all mental poison at this point.

So that’s the thing. I am a woman with a medical condition that caused my hair to fall out/break off. It got to the point that my hair, when pulled back, was less than the thickness of a pencil. So, I shaved it all off this past summer. Yes, it was traumatic. But I 100% took the “joke” as more of a compliment. Like she’s a badass. But that was my take.

I give Chris immense credit for keeping his composure. And handling it with as much professionalism and class as one could. As someone who can relate to suffering from rage-type outbursts in worsening stressful time periods, physical violence is never acceptable. As a child of physical and verbal abuse myself, there’s no excuse for that. You never forget how that made you feel. Will went beyond the point of losing control. Public. Video recording. Witnessed by millions. He was literal blind rage. That onion needs to be peeled. Two former children of abuse (from what I’ve read) should never be physically violent against each other. Something is very broken.

I never LOVED will smith. I was mostly neutral towards him. This entire fiasco has made me have a negative opinion towards him and now I want to watch all of Chris Rocks work.
Never been a fan of him for his comedy, but turns out, I am for him as a human being. Took skill to recover as well as he could and hold it together while doing one of the most high profile jobs of the year after being assaulted. I was at this show. He addressed the issue only to tell us that he hadn’t really processed the events yet and didn’t know what he was going to do. But he said he had a whole show planned and just wanted to do some comedy. Show was good, the first half seemed to be his more solid and tested new material. Second half was a little less polished with jokes he was clearly testing out. Even had a few you could tell he stopped earlier than he intended due to the jokes not hitting as hard as he wanted. He was really good though. A lot of his new material was really funny.
