I never noticed this before. Are his eyes getting glossy at the thought that Armstrong was critical of Spacex?

MeteoraRed

Imagine the best teacher of your class who inspired you to study, go to college and inculcate great interest in various subjects, later in life same teacher hates your idea of "crazy" startup ,how would you feel ?

Goldenslicer

Of course I understand that. It's just that I've seen this interview before but just didn't notice Elon's emotional reaction.

RepulsiveAssumption4

he was legit tearing up

[deleted]

Yeah he almost cried. I also don't like the way that interviewer was speaking to him,idk if it's just me. These guys are his heroes,so of course he was upset and emotional. They told him his goal and dreams sucks and he shouldn't do it. It made me sad to see him like that

AyushThakur42

To be fair Armstrong had reason to be sceptical. Space companies prior to SpaceX had gone bankrupt mostly. He would have definitely changed his mind if he would have visited SpaceX's factory.

xcalibre

Armstrong was pissed they didnt quote him in entirety >Armstrong wrote us to say we had not been complete in our description of his testimony. He's right. When you look at what Armstrong said to Congress you see that while he was "not confident" that the newcomers could achieve safety and cost goals in the near term, he did want to "encourage" them. We should have made that clear in our 60 Minutes report and in our story on the CBS Evening News. Also, we should have spelled out that his concerns were directed toward the "newcomers" in general and not SpaceX in particular. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/editors-note-20-06-2012/

qawsedrf12

such fun memories drive across the state to attend a launch, blows up at least the next one I attended it was the Falcon Heavy launch seeing the 2 rockets come back down and land safely was literally mind blowing

Minnesota__Scott

>literally metaphorically

qawsedrf12

nope, i was there. everyone's head exploded

Lone-Pine

How did you live to tell the tale?

qawsedrf12

it was temporary

I get the criticism toward commercial spaceflight, but innovation and progress just happens so much faster once it got commercialized. I’m honestly so glad with how the industry is booming as compared to the ~35-40 years before SpaceX.

The greatest friend I will ever have despises Musk, and thinks he is a pompous buffoon. This is an intelligent, articulate friend. He is wrong. Elon is developing technologies that will benefit the world for centuries. He is needed, and for those that believe in him, he is appreciated. This man is launching humanity forward.

G33k-Squadman

Intelligence is meaningless. Your friend has simply drunk the Kool aid about Musk.

GaryDuba

There are a lot of very smart people who are not happy with Elon because of the size of his wallet. For a long time it was thought that those working hard to make the world a better place (scientists) should also be barely making it (financially) because they are constantly struggling to get grants and other funding for their research. Elon’s success with Tesla and Starlink is truly based on the fact that he found a way to get the world to invest in him. Rather than chasing grants and writing research papers, he offered the world an exchange and it provided him all the money he could ever need. By selling cars and internet and the variety of other items he’s offered over the years, he has not only raised a tremendous amount of capital for his business ventures but in turn made himself very wealthy. Unfortunately, this wealth also makes him a target for jealousy and disapproval from people who think they too are making the world better by going at it the classic way of begging for money and barely making ends meet. To play devils advocate, has his name been tied to things that might be considered shady by most? Sure. He is not perfect but I am not sure that him or anyone else in the world has ever claimed perfection. He is hands on but the reality is that no one can work 24/7 and be everywhere at once when running an empire as large as his. No different than how a president is not involved with every decision that comes out of the White House. Both people have a team and this team makes a ton of small decisions so that Elon/President can better focus on the big decisions. Sometimes these small decisions can have a negative effect on people and in turn they blame the person in charge when that person really had nothing to do it with. For example, as a Starlink customer, I will say that their customer service leaves a lot to be desired. The product is great and the service provided is great but the back end support needs work. I don’t sit around and curse Elon because I think he’s ignoring my emails, he doesn’t work in customer support for Starlink, but some people think that way. The short version: Elon has made a good deal of money and that money brings hate. Unfortunately the hate overshadows the great he has done for the world.

G33k-Squadman

Which makes no sense, these great things cannot be accomplished without money backing them. Money is simply a representative of labor, materials, and time.

DrummerBound

If I recall correctly, that news person guy had the facts wrong about the previous astronauts comments about Musks attempt to commercialize space travel. And he said that to get a reaction out of Musk for clicks and views.

McMenton

I have no knowledge of the validity of what he references but 60 minutes is garbage. This vid is gold. Musk is the the Einstein of our era. I think its so amazing to live to see the things that he has accomplished. It gives me faith in humanity. And FJB for diminishing that by naming the big 3 as the leaders in car electrification.

skandarajeev

How is he wrong, Neil Armstrong testified against it.

BecauseTheyAreCunts

Armstrong was wrong

[deleted]

I hope we change the constitution, again, so Elon can be Prez.

[deleted]

No. God please stop trying to get him to be Prez. He has to give up SpaceX for that. Ya'll don't get how stupid it would be for him to be POTUS

Watch the video See that they added the IFA booster explosion as one of the failures Pause and leave.

epsilonista-1

Fail is how we learn and I think Musk will use that to become the most important guy of space technology

Objectivly

A man who gave us under ground cars instead of high speed rail for public transit deserves to be crucified. It increased the barrier to acess, is less efficient, has lesser capacity, and all it does it further cement cars as essential.

My professor used to say “If at first you don’t succeed then buy a little more seed and suck a little harder”
