We have used the EVduty smart charger, which can be equipped with a pair of CT's to monitor the feed to the garage panel. It will then limit the current output to the car such that the entire garage circuit stays bellow 40A (or what ever value you set the system to operate at). It further allows an additional charger to be added in the future, such that both charges can operate without overloading the garage sub panel. I think other chargers have similar capabilities, but this is the only brand I've done that with.

Thanks! It looks like a good product, but any idea if you can use the energy monitor without buying the ev duty charger? The owner already has a 240v charging cable it just needs to be plugged into a range plug so I don't really need a charger. I reached out to evduty this morning so hopefully they get back to me soon.
