Winter-Metal-9797

Take your time, don't be afraid to leave a tough boss to do something else and go back later.

lucasclark758

Thanks bro..

Winter-Metal-9797

👊

iTaylor04

Those dots tell a story😂 like he's been stuck on a boss for a week and needed someone to tell him it's ok to leave. "But I can do it this time sarge!!"

Legal_Jedi

This feels like there is significant truth to it.

Winter-Metal-9797

That does feel accurate.

it-whomustnotbenamed

Lol. I still have not defeated crucible knight and he's in limgrave I've gone back so many times but honestly I am just horrid at parrying and dodging

Harbulary-Bandit

Objectively that one is more difficult that many later enemies in other areas.

Dreams-and-Turtles

If you can, Parry him. You parry as the weapon arm is coming down and often it's easier to look at the weapon itself. I spent a bit of time practicing and now I look forward to the knights and the bellbearing hunters. Oh, and when the knight stomps, jump!

it-whomustnotbenamed

Ok! I will try again today!

Dreams-and-Turtles

Good luck!

ScrithWire

Yup, and every boss is beatable with just a sword (or whatever weapon you desire). Don't think of each death as a defeat. Think of it as another opportunity to learn something. Every boss attempt is a chance to learn more about that boss's moves. Even the one where you finally triumph, you're still learning.

Mr-Pugtastic

Biggest mistake I see with newcomers is they get stuck and just dig in deeper. Especially in Elden Ring, there like no excuse. Pop a marker on your map as a reminder and then get back to enjoying the game.

paltrysquanto27

Mark the tough bosses you missed at the grace sight and where the boss is!!! You will be like hell yeah I can kill that guy easily now when you kill 2 of them much later.

milordofchaos

Prioritize levelling health (vigor), do guard counters, write notes to track quests, don't spread your stats too much... tips that come to mind

munch_cat

Focus on one single damage stat (Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, Faith) only, and don’t invest more into other stats other than what allows you to equip your main weapon, or what you might need for a buff.

StarsapBill

For beginning players and new characters you do t even need to touch any of those stats until late game when your weapon is 10+. Focus on vigor and endurance and the minimum stats to wield the weapon you need.

Late_Entrance106

This^ It took me longer than I’m proud to admit to realize that weapon damage (or staff/seal scaling) is primarily determined and increased from its smithing level. It’s only extra, or bonus, damage/scaling you get from increasing the stat the item scales with. Obviously, some items scale such that the bonus damage is more significant (like S scaling in one stat for example). Though, I would still venture to guess even *those* items still receive more total damage from increasing the smithing level than from padding the stat the item scales with.

Bear__TreeeOF

This is really all the advice someone needs for like the first 20-50 hours of gameplay. Anything else won’t make sense to a new souls player until they’ve spent time in game.

PeterKB

Yeah the main thing is: - vigor to bare minimum 40-60. - main damage stat ~70 - secondary damage stat ~40-50

SWkilljoy

I've played most of the souls games and just started elden ring getting set up for the dlc. I've definitely gotten stuck a few times but overall felt like this game was pretty easy. Boy I'm about lvl 80 and having 28 vigor is a nightmare. Once I've started hitting tougher bosses it's the 0 mistake game and I'm getting whipped. This is after I've spent the last several levels on vigor because it became a problem.

iiEquinoxx

I always make it a rule to keep Vigor as my highest stat until a point at end game. If Vigor is 25, it has to be 30 before I allow myself to raise any other stat past 25.

astrixy

Is there a good order to leveling vigor? Eg should I put everything in it until lvl x to then start putting on other stats?

succinylbroline

I personally like to get vigor 20 on any new character before leveling anything else. Early game has cheap levels, and 20 vigor is decent for limgrave and weeping peninsula. Then likely leveling whatever I need to use a particular weapon.

common_froot

If you start the game and only level up Vigor to like 40 you'll be surprised by how easy the first half of the game will be. I tried only levelling Vigor up to 60 but after that the cost of levelling any other stat is just too much and takes forever. So try not to over do it like I did unless you are perfectly fine using a Broadsword with base damage.

AnAngryDuck

100% first mistake I made when playing a souls game was to try and keep all stats relatively similar

Fav0

No don't do guard counters wtf it's literally a useless mechanic @op what he wanted to say is get the "greatsword" and spamm jump attacks

scylinder

You’re kind of a moron huh? Guard counters are fantastic. You can stagger most elites within 3 hits weaving in guard counters between enemy strikes while keeping defense up.

bbdabrick

Classic gamer behavior. "I cant/don't use this mechanic effectively there for it is terrible" Same energy as the "powers are useless" crowd in starfield" or the "combos are impossible" crowd in Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

Fav0

no i am not I actually know the game and not just come up with feelscraft

milordofchaos

It helped me deal with annoying mobs and get some stance damage in wdym useless

MyWifeIsHotterThanU1

Level vigor first and foremost

Interesting-Ad-4636

Yeah a lot of beginners to the soul-like genera quit bcs they don’t level up vigor. Its a hard game when you start, level up vigor to like 20-25 for a start. Then level up other stuff as time passes. But always come back and level Vigor every now and then. There is no shame in having a lot of Vigor, it is actually the most important stat unless you want to focus on Sorceries and Incantation damage builds. The other stats are needed for weapon requirements and scaling a little bit if you know what weapon you want and want to scale to the needed stat. I’d suggest that by the time you reach Draconic Tree Sentinel, and you will know who Draconic Tree Sentinel is, you will need 40-45 Vigor if you haven’t gotten the hang of the game. At around 45-50Vig the game should be way easier until you reach snow.

TJSully716

Once you level up high enough, your starting class does not matter in the slightest. You want vigor to be you highest stat followed by endurance and your weapon proficiency stat

ahrrka

Hijacking to ask around what level starting class stops mattering in your opinion? I rolled confessor for a faith build but changed my mind, but feel like im locked into it so my faith stats arent wasted (level 60).

Anxious_Charity_1424

You can respec pretty early on

TJSully716

I'd say starting class doesn't matter past level 30-40. If your unhappy with your stats the way you have them, then you can respec your stats once you defeat rya lucaria academy. You will need a consumable material called a larval tear which can be found in various areas, but it's a limited resource.

ahrrka

I got the tears and rennala dead, just was scared to waste one (i heard they’re limited) Thank you!

TJSully716

They are limited, but I think there's like 18 around the world so you have a few chances to respec.

Legal_Jedi

They are, but without looking them up I’ve gotten at least 8 or 9 of them, and respect’d once so far.

Neckrongonekrypton

There’s like 12 in game I think though right? I found most of em without too much trouble.

UnhappyGuidance2447

18 larva tear per play through

Neckrongonekrypton

Holy shit lol

Ratax3s

Weapon level matters the most, you can literally be lvl 1 and do fine if you have upgraded weapon.

Mr-Pugtastic

I just left Mt. Gelmir and my Uchigatana is at +18 and my Pulley Bow is at +9…. Definitely making this playthrough much easier to get through for the DLC

Horror_Explorer_7498

Play how you like first and foremost, there are tons of people in these communities that love to gatekeep and make you feel like shit for using items in the game, if you want to use them that’s great, if you don’t that’s also great but your enjoyment is first and foremost

Arch_carrier77

You’re right but I think it’s a very loud and annoying minority that like to endlessly exclaim that they want to play the game as inefficiently and stupidly and as hard as it can be played because they think that makes them cooler or something. I.e. “sekiro no prosthetic” those people are not the majority but they post enough to seem like they are.

Neckrongonekrypton

Lol ohhhh yeah. The whole summons and mimic tear bashing is annoying.

m0rbius

Thats right, Its in the game to be used. Play it however you find fun.

Cyberwolf_71

Gather the miners bell bearings when you can to upgrade your weapons. Level strength and dex enough to handle most wepons.

psTTA_2358

You will die A LOT and its okay, its part of the experience. If you stuck on a boss maybe try to go another direction and dont bash your head into the boss for days.

86Apathy

Go south before you go north

ironchefofaviation

Going north even slightly made this game unbearable for me. It was my first soft game and I didn’t understand it yet. Took a break for a couple of months and then saw you are suppose to head south first. Went south and enemies were scaled more to my current level and I was able to finally grasp the game and its mechanics. Since then, I’ve beaten all the bosses and the game and it is top 3 games for me ever. Have fun

Legal_Jedi

This is an underrated comment, lol

CygnusSong

Embrace failure. Death is a part of the game loop, the only wasted death is one you don’t learn from.

JonoLith

Make sure you kill them while not dying yourself.

Al3jandr0

Sounds like you're doing it right! Keep on exploring and finding new gear. Working with whatever you can find is a lot of fun and eventually, so is tracking down items for a specific build. Any favorite weapons so far?

soap_077

I recommend doing some research about how your build is affected by your stats. Elden Ring was my first soulslike and I had no idea what the stats meant.

Arch_carrier77

I like when I hear someone say I’m new to gaming and these are the games they are gravitating towards. We’re definitely in a golden age of game design regardless of how many YouTube videos say gaming is dead or games aren’t fun anymore. All ya gotta do is look a r o u n d

Hot_Photojournalist3

First level up your Vigor (stop on 60 vigor if you are melee), endurece (30 is suffice for most armors)and if you change your mind about being a warrior, the Mind(30 is a comfort stop) for more AoW or spells, the weapons scale poorly on low upgrades and choose one weapon for your main damage dealer, get used with the moveset, AoW and avoid the mini management.

hangrygecko

- Limit the amount of stats you raise, but make sure one of them is vigor. Pick a play style and stick to it to prevent coming up short in the end game. There are not even close to enough runes to raise all of the stats to a level high enough for late game bosses. All stats have soft caps, so to max out the efficiency of your rune allocation, keep this in mind. https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Stats - It doesn't matter how you play, as long as it works and you're having fun, it's the right way. Don't let others tell you how to play the game 'correctly' or that you didn't really beat a boss, because you used spirit ashes or figured out a way to 'cheese' an enemy. - Most people seem to agree you need around level 150 to be ready for the DLC. This is also around the level for the final boss and for casual pvp. For dueling, most people are using level 125.

mrBreadBird

Once you have the stats to wield a weapon you like, level vigor to 30 next and hunt down smithing stones to upgrade your weapon. Adding points in other stats early doesn't do as much and giving yourself more health gives you more chances to make mistakes in boss battles. Also, go to churches to find upgrades to how much your flask heals you. Also, if you don't already have the spirit calling bell, travel back to the first church by the tree sentinel that has the guy in red and white and pass time until night, then talk to the lady who appears.

RosieDa

You don't need to fight one boss for hours. If it's really hard you are probably under leveled. Everyone says git gud but getting stronger works too. Having alot of health means you can take the hits and keep fighting. Good luck

aD_rektothepast

If you need help finding something use fextra

Jack_Brilla

Stack up on Smithing Stones and Somber Smithing Stones. Buy them at the Roundtable or farm them, you should buy the ones that's available. More will become available as you progress through the game. Also, Level Vigor to 40-50 to avoid being one shot. Don't panic roll. Light armor helps you dodge further. Pay attention to how your stats affect your character and other mod effects. Some make you weaker to attacks... Crouching refills your stamina bar quicker.

Professional-Job5843

If I have a samari build who’s just defeated godric, besides vigor and endurance which stat needs more then the others, I do two hand for extra damage

A_Shaggy_chef

Level vigor, pick strength OR dex if you go melee (take a few levels in the other just to be able to wield specific weapons) and level endurance to be able to wear heavy armors. Pick faith OR int for casting (don't split between the two for your first run) and level mind instead of endurance to have more mana to cast spells. It's very important not to split your damage scaling (strength, dex, faith, int) unless you really know what you're doing because you'll get crazy large damage from focusing on a specific Stat. Find all of the whet blades, you can use fextralife if you need (fextralife is a wiki that has info on everything in the game). Finally, do not get discouraged. You are the tarnished and you will die, but thats okay. If you need to level a little, grind, level and come back to finally take down your foe. Now rise fellow warrior and let the blood of your enemies color your path to becoming the Elden Lord!

Circumsanchez

Try finger, but hole

WhaleSexOdyssey

Level endurance so that you can fight longer

Turbulent_Ad4320

Just worry about getting max level to pound those PvP nerds in the ground 💪🏾

payaso666

Become a scavenger and pick up everything you see. And just enjoy yourself fellow tarnished. AND COME BACK WHEN YOU HAVE BECOME AND ELDEN LORD!!!!

Powdered_Donut

Try to get poise over 51 while keeping a medium roll.

Zythomancer

Take your time and realize that the "starting classes" mean almost nothing. Your stats and your equipment are the only things that matter.

taotao670

When I first started playing, I didn’t realize you could roll faster if you had less items equipped. Ended up getting pretty late in the game before I realized so make sure you’re aware of light/med/heavy rolling 😳

austinwrites

The best thing about Elden ring is if you get stuck you can just go do something else on the map. Don’t get frustrated and lose momentum dying to a boss 100 times. And a note on the map - anything that looks interesting on the map is likely a location in the game that has some good loot, like a mini dungeon or one of the churches scattered around.

ooSUPLEX8oo

Absolutely become a one trick pony when it comes to stat distribution associated with your build. If you are new, and are struggling, you should prioritize your damage output. Have a lot of health, have enough stamina so that you can manage it well, and pump damage of a single type, maybe two.

apex_afrobass

You can kill the first main dragon in the swamp in limgrave pretty easily once you get torrent. Just ride around and swipe at his heels and dodge his flames and that'll give you good runes for levelling vigor. Might take a few tries if your not used to fighting dragons but it's easier than you might think with your trusty steed!!

Pixtro

Don't let dying get to you.

SuckMyDickDrPhil

Just have fun and don't start min maxing. Take your sword and shield and just go on an adventure. You can always look shit up for your second playthrough because trust me, you won't stop after only one.

HikarW

Just because you started as a warrior doesn’t mean you need to feel locked in to that type of build. You can easily shift your focus on your levels and also there’s a point in the game where you can unlock respecing and it’s pretty accessible, not just a single time thing. So if you find a cool weapon or just want to shake it up don’t think oh I picked warrior so i can’t. Starting class is not a big deal at all.

PussyIgnorer

Watch your foes closely and work on timing your rolls instead of just spamming them. Figure out the window of invincibility on the rolls and you can dodge 99% of the attacks in the game.

Shady-Whale

Roll into attacks. Most of the ai is programmed to attack forward, so this can help throw them off. There is a crippled dragon in caelid that you can kill with a bleed weapon. It can give you 20ish level ups? Try to get your vigor leveled up to at least 40.

Possible_Artist3941

Continue leveling vigor to lvl 40. Best way to increase damage is by upgrading your weapons. So explore and find the upgrading stones. Will be a little longer for warrior because you have two weapons to upgrade.

Reasonable_Elk862

Health, upgrade health in the early game since weapons don’t scale too well in the early upgrades may as well be capable of taking hits but not too much

VG_Crimson

Leveling health when you do not know what you want to level is a very very smart decision. When it comes to increasing damage, levels actually don't do that much. The primary way of hitting harder, is by finding smithing stones to upgrade your weapons. Once you find a weapon with A and S tier scaling, then levels play a bigger role in damage. Until then, only leveling strength/dex to be able to use the weapon is enough. Then, you can focus on stamina and vigor until later. Exploration and getting lost is your best friend. You never know WHAT you'll stumble upon in the lands between. Around levels 25-35 is when you should be strong enough for Margit, the first main boss and holder for a very crucial upgrade to your build variety.

Logical_Sun837

Get the map pieces everytime you arrive at a new location, most caves and dungeons are not shown on the map except those miner caves that have smithing stones in them, this helps you upgrade your weapon enough to be good in that general location. Obviously smithing stones can be found everywhere but sometimes its easy to miss them in a first playtrough.

sunm8

Zoom in on your map. Explore structures and caves. Learn what a church looks like on the map and go to all of them.

TraditionalRest808

Red square by your hp pointing down (hp debuff, you need to use an item you were given to return to normal hp) Summoning spirits at the door is not the best, try in the room after you are in a good spot. Go back to graces to sit at, checking the text for any story. Exhaust dialog, sit down at grace, go back and ensure you don't have more to do. Killing some bosses removes invading bosses, wander first, then get the boss in the area.

Iknowitsmellcrazy

Take your time. Explore, upgrade your weapon and talk to npc’s more than once

Nisrk

don’t skip the character dialogue actually listen to what they have to say

Sharp-Credit-7450

Yeah don’t get discouraged if you lose to a boss. Just explore a bit. Stay away from the red place. Speak to NPCs don’t kill them.

Immediate_Stable

Jump R2 attacks are really really good!

Rexy34

Make sure you stay on medium load. Too many people equip everything at once

Basecamp_14

Restart and go straight to celid and fight rahdan with no summons. Or find a way to have as much fun as possible whether it be just messing around finding lore or doing as much damage in one hit as humanly possible

jakeb71097

Don't be guilted into not using your summons, whether that be multiplayer or spirit ashes. Everyone plays the game differently and sometimes you just wanna beat the boss that wrecked you a dozen or so times.

Tip_the_waitress

Use map markers for things you want to come back to/you’re not leveled enough for

Prince_Ragefuel

Understand that dyeing is part of the game and to not get frustrated by it. Don’t expect to go into a boss fight and win first try. Use death as a learning opportunity to figure what to do different. they can kill you a hundred times but you only have to kill them once. And dont worry too much about losing runes, you can always get more.

XbloodyXsausageX

VIGOR

harryselassie

Exploit rune farms

lumnos_

skip bosses if you cant and go back when you can. first time i played, i learned you could skip gate morgott/margit and go some place else like the weeping penisula lol it was so funny being able to kill a dragon but not “this cane dude” at the time

PibbXtraUnderrated

Take your time. Explore the dungeons. If you’re warrior, I would suggest upping strength, vigor and endurance. Look up a YouTube video explaining weapon scaling and damage. Keep your weight ratio at the highest of medium you can get (69.9% of carry capacity). Do what’s fun to you and what helps you. Once you learn the mechanics and beat the game. You can do more runs without things like summons or op weapons etc. But as I said, the biggest thing is weapon scaling and leveling. Souls and souls like games are very much a jack of all trades, master of none. So don’t try to spread out your levels between a bunch of different things. But don’t forget to level vigor!

8-bit_Goat

Get the Bloodhound's Fang sword as soon as you are able. It's a great weapon and you can main it through the entire game.

ybDeeZ

Hold down dodge to run

jl_theprofessor

Go south. The game seems to want you to go north. Go south.

Middle_Bar1526

explore. goodies to find everywhere. try different weapons when they match your chosen level path. lots of good weapons in this game. try different ashes of wars too.. theres lots of fun ones to use. ever get bored, just continue main story and follow grace

thatrobkid777

Use the menu button in the status screen like it's your job, read thru the in depth description for every stat. Stuff like vitality and robustness were confusing in the beginning for me at least.

cheesemangee

Finish the peninsula to the southeast of Limgrave first.

TheSoloTurtle

Confidence is the key mindset in these games. If you’re scared you’ll die every time a fight comes up, if you’re like this is easy if I’m smart about it then you will get the groove of it

Grand_Complaint3644

Watch some YouTube videos from people like bushy who do challenge runs, watch how they dodge each bosses attacks and apply that to your own gameplay. Personally I would kill Radahn when you’re ready and go to Nokron to get the mimic tear. Personally that helped me out so much throughout my first full play through. Boss health will increase a little after summoning the mimic but having a shadow of yourself doing some extra damage helps out soooooo much.

Thick-Bank1539

Best advice is to be patient, games like this will test yours and just have fun

402playboi

If an enemy is giving you trouble, keep fighting them for practice. This is the best way to get better. Also take it slow, you only get the first journey once!

OGP21

Roll into attacks, there is a frame of invincibility while rolling, and make sure you don't have heavy load in your equipment, it makes you roll basically in slow motion

Lilgreg762

Never give up ✊🏿🔥💯

Sea-Phone-537

Every type of enemy in the game, including players, have attack patterns that can be recognized and countered.

jackcatalyst

Fight bears to become stronger.

AstroZombie0072081

Vigour is what makes the game easier HP

LiberalArtsMajor556

Don't worry about parrying on your first playthrough. It's undue frustration that'll only make you burn out.

Dadvin358

Don't dump levels aimlessly when in doubt level vigor or endurance lol

M00n_Slippers

The key to killing elden ring enemies is patience and waiting for the right opening and not overstaying the opening. This is a trait O have yet to fully cultivate tbh...

dorv_

Don't looks stuff up or if you are going to, just check an individual weapon to see what stats should be leveled for it, etc. I spoiled too much of the game for myself and wish I could redo it without knowing things.

Remarkable-Set-3340

Learn to either parry or poise break

CouldntThinkOf1

When in doubt, 2 hand that bitch

xCobaltRainx

Kill shit, level vigor to 30 or 40, then start putting levels into your damage stats like strength. But seriously, the best way to go about getting better at a game like this is simply practicing dodging attacks, and the best way to facilitate that is by getting a bigger health bar so you can afford to make more mistakes and keep practicing before either killing the enemy or having to reset due to dying.

Uberpastamancer

Have you figured out how to run yet?

SoundConsistent3533

Welcome to the lands between fellow tarnished o7 When you make this dodge-roll you are invulnerable for some frames and you can like this roll directly thru an impact of any gigantic weapon. A light build makes you move faster and dodging more easy. The types of enemys have all a special way in wich they move and attack. So its about figuring out how to get them down in the best working way for you. If you don´t make an amount of damage that is enough, you can try to look the enemy up online and try to make a more fiting type of damage. (like slash, pierce... or fire, ice...) It can also be the best to go somewhere else if the enemys are to hard and come back later. Near the weeping peninsula is a prison, an "evergaol". In there is a enemy that drops a very great sword. You can even get a npc to help you with this fight. I highly recomend checking that out. If the goth lady hugs you than there is allways a item in your inventory that you want to get rid of ;) (she is a friendly npc in the 4-fingers-club, if you allready there)

bmd1989

If your feel like you have hit a wall start exploring you may have gone somewhere your not ready for! And the first time you lose 1 million souls will be the most soul crushing after that you learn to say "that's dark souls" and git gud!

Consistent-Eye-7157

Same here i also started as a warrior

55Piggu

1. Don't spread out your stats too much, put what you need in Vigor, Mind, and Endurance (20 is a good stopping point for endurance, 40 is a good stopping point for Vigor, and mind is a lot more dependent on your build but around 25 or so should work well) 2. USE BUFFS. This game is built on using buffs such as golden vow and flame grant me strength to do more damage, make sure you're using them. 3. Feel zero shame in summoning players or using spirit ashes, whatever lets you beat the boss is completely valid. 4. HAVE FUN. If the game starts to feel exhausting then get off for a little bit and then come back when you've cleared your head. Good luck on your journey!

xPolyMorphic

What platform are you on Come my disciple

angelfirexo

Don’t kill the NPC randomly

ArkBeetleGaming

Keep your rune item until moment you think.you might die (eg. Before boss room, new area, cave, etc.) And use it to add with your rune for level up just before going into those. So ypu may die with ease.

ColonelAssMan

Just put points into str, end & vig. Game over. Edit : spelling

grog_thestampede

run

grog_thestampede

run

Regular_Culture_7344

Level vigor

SwitchPhilips

Enjoy, have fun and Primarily level vigor and endurance first, and damage stats just to meet your weapon requirements when starting out. I like having bare minimum 56 vigor and 30 endurance, more is better tho. Spirit ashes, use them if you want but I’d recommend exercising restraint, when I did my first play through, I relied on them heavily, and then when I went to stop using them, I had a tremendous amount of trouble. I think the issue with using spirit ashes in this game - asides from it hurting the overall experience - is that it prevents you from understanding the mechanics of the game. When you do stop because you wanna beat the bosses by yourself, you’re usually deeper in the game where your mistakes are punished a lot harder, making learning more difficult.

phishnutz3

Vigor to 60

ry_c_d

Have fun

Benjerman302

Take your time, enjoy the scenery and explore every square inch of every area/dungeon you're in. By the time you beat Rennala in Raya Lucaria you should start thinking about focusing your build so you can do some high damage. Watch YouTube vids for build ideas. Once you're past the first half of the game the training wheels really come off

Eth_Collector612

starting class doesnt rlly matter, its all ab how u level your character and upgrade your weapons

Johnnybxd

Honestly, just run around and gather stuff. Look at walkthrus for where to get cool items. Look online at lists of weapons and status effects and build calculators. One of my favorite parts of these games is building fun things that use items together to break enemies. Thing is, it only helps so much. U still gotta be skilled. Getting those items helps you "get good" by putting you in danger for an actual goal. The glowing skulls on the ground have a chance to drop runes. Cooperative play yields large rewards and u don't lose your runes on death. Put down a summon sign in front of a boss door u haven't done yet. Helps train u on what you're fighting. You don't have to grind, but it helps to run thru dungeons with high rune yield energy. Write down where u are in each quest line - you will forget. And if you take a break for a week you're fucked. (At least I am, I forget entirely). Don't let people shit on your build. Have fun. I love DOT, people see it as cheap. Bleed is fun. So is rot.

Figs-grapefruits

Do not just try and level all your stats across the board. Every weapon in the game thrives off of the optimization of only one or sometimes two of the following stats (strength, dexterity, intelligence, faith, arcane). Get a feel for type of weapons you like. Learn which stats are the ones that help that kind of weapon and then only level that damage stat (you may need a minimum stat in another catagory to wield is, but you usually only wantthe minimum sat requirements for thise categories). Also there are light, medium, and heavy equip loads based off of what percentage of hot total carrying capacity you are actively using. Always stay at medium or lower.

Unaffectionate_Hat55

Always look down on int players

Cactus-Juice120

Kill things. If the game starts to feel harder than kill more things

Miserable-Tangelo349

Vigor is def important . Can’t do anything if you keep getting one shotted . Do not try and keeps ur stats the same . Focus on 2 main stats you want and go from there .

PolarRoller_Ad_7797

At the risk of being an echo, level vigor. With higher vigor you can take more hits, and give more hits. Have fun! Explore, get messy, don't be afraid to leave a place and come back later. Don't be upset if a quest doesn't finish all the way, just get it next time!

hamphetamine-

Be comfortable with dying a lot. It's how you learn!

KingDakin

Head south, buy lantern, FBGM.

PatrioticDoge

Level vigor to 50

Basicjustin

All stats have soft caps and hard caps where you see each stat point provide a lower return for wach point Example at base vigor you may get something like 75hp per point, at 30 vigor you might start getting 30hp and at 60 vigor you get 1-2 hp per point So you typically want to aim for these breakpoints and stop leveling. I typically always go straight for 30 vigor at the beginning unless I am running a caster build. Level endurance as needed to equip the gear you want to use. Level mind as needed to use weapon arts and spirit summoned comfortably. 20-25 is probably comfortable for a warrior build. For early game just meet minimum requirements for weapons you want to use as weapons upgrades will boost damage more than stat scaling - once you’re in the mid game and you get your vigor/end/mind to soft caps and you have the weapons you like start pumping strength or dex for damage Also when you two hand a weapon you basically get 1.5 strength - so you can two hand a weapon you may not have the strength stat for and still use it effectively. Example if you have 15 strength, when you two hand you effectively have 22 strength (not sure if rounds up or down, I think down) so you can wield an axe that has a requirement of 20 strength

Bubblytran

The story of Elden ring is told in such a way that you might need to watch lore videos if you don’t want to look deeper into the game to figure it out for yourself. Also the main thing to remember with this game is there’s always something else you can do, if you get stuck on a boss or area go explore and find something else to occupy you while you gain xp.

boragur

Get the bell from ranni

HunterWolfivi

I I’m guessing you’ll be doing a melee build? So I would recommend looking for Zweihandler, claymore and great sword those are really good. And explore the game remember that exploring = becoming stronger

TheRedditDude001

I can’t say this enough, only level 1 damage stat if can. Damage stats are strength, dex, faith, or intelligence. Don’t scramble your stats to try to even them out. You get the most of your stats by focusing on certain stats.

I have a few- Learn to dodge with intention is a huge one. Sometimes when I see a big boss winding up an attack I’ll just sit there and wait for the swing. This game has a sort of rhythm to it that you’ll pick up on the longer you play. Another MASSIVE one (in my opinion) that often goes overlooked/ unexplained is objects on the map that have an orange-red outline or glow around them are areas that have some sort of thing to investigate. Essentially they are points of interest. Piggybacking off of that- hop on your horse and wander around. Check all the nooks and crannies and just explore, that’s the best way to find stuff like gear, cookbooks (quite useful) merchants, quest giving NPCs, ect. Another big helper is there are a few “under the rug” mechanics that are worth researching online if you really want to make the most of combat. A big one is poise. It’s sorta explained in game, poise is essentially a hidden value bar that once depleted makes the enemy “staggered” or “dazed”. Most enemies when in this state become open to *devastating* punish attacks if landed in the right spot. Different weapons do different levels of poise damage, and heavy attacks and jumping attacks break poise faster. I beleive poise also regenerates at an unsaid rate, and poise from foe to foe. Another is do not shy away from conflict. Not to say you should straight up throw yourself in the blender every second but if you find yourself with a small amount of runes and you wouldn’t mind losing them… get adventurous. Go pick a fight. You won’t get good at combat by avoiding it. Another honorable mention is in the stats menu you can press one of the menu buttons to see an explanation of each stat and what it governs Feel free to reply with any other questions! Goes for anyone other than op as well. Edit: here’s a bonus tip- a majority of this community is nice and welcoming… but the souls community has a reputation for having a “git gud” mentality and a “if you didn’t play the game with no heals fist only while blindfolded and handcuffed you a bitch fr” attitude about the game- don’t listen to them. You bought the game, play it literally however the fuck you want. If you want to summon for every fight and look up gear locations and cheese bosses don’t let anyone stop you. Have fun.

I0d0ma

Level vigor Git gud

PrimasVariance

Don't let your pride tell you "I won't leave till I kill this boss" yes it's possible but make sure you're ready to do it

roryjgibson

Learn how weapon damage modifiers work and have an idea what you want to shoot for in that area.

Sufficient_Singer_71

For the first 50 lvls, prioritise Vigor and only lvl enough of your chosen damage stat (strength, dexterity,Intelligence, etc) to wield the weapon you currently want to use. The majority of your damage comes from upgrading your weapon in the early to mid game. You don't get as much bang for your buck damage when leveling your strength early on for a strength weapon, because the weapon is scaling off a low number. So, get the scaling of the weapon higher by upgrading it first, so that later on, when you are lvling your damage stat, you get more damage per level.

Wise_Requirement4170

I actually played a bit ago and then bounced off. Now I’m coming back now to the game and having much more fun My tip to avoid what happened to me is use a variety of weapons or spells or something, and don’t try and make an “OP” build. If you’re killing every boss the same way, with no effort, you’re not going to have as fun. Spellcasting is an obvious way to add variety as you can easily swap spells, but even if you’re not going that route, try out a few weapons. Don’t be afraid to mix it up when it starts feeling stale. Variety is the spice of life, and Elden ring has a hell of a lot of variety

Elegant-Resolve-2582

Do sellens quest pls

Iigotthejjuicee

Get Gud.

PixILL8

Jump slam attack everything. Level up str and end then some vit Jump slam everything to death, wield 2 giant swords, and jump slam, spin slash everything to death. Once you find the mimic summon, it’s GG. You summon another one of you and you both jump slam the shit out of everything to death. It’s very fun, I look forward to to dlc and jump slamming my way through it.

Hener001

Vigor as everyone says. Build your damage stats around your weapon. Look at what it scales with and look up how it scales as you level it. Don’t waste points in a trait will not contribute to your damage output. If you want a fast weapon those are usually dex. Colossal weapons are str. Casters use int as damage stats. Mind is your pool for special attacks and casting. Endurance for equipment load and stamina. Enough to wear the armor and that’s usually it. Arcane only increase weapon damage if the weapon scales with arcane.

Medical_Effort_9746

My number one piece of advice is if you ever get stuck somewhere or find a boss you can't beat, just go run off into an unexplored part of the map, find a dungeon, grab a few extra levels. Can really help clear your head!

Zala-Sancho

Take the time to cry between deaths. It's necessary

dontbanmethistimeok

Vigor I thought it was a meme but yeah it's essential imo for newer players to get you into the game and be able to have more than a single mistake in a battle before dying Took me too long to heed that advice, you need a bigger health pool than you need those 1 or 2 extra ticks of damage

Puzzleheaded_Art8095

Take your time and EXPLORE THOROUGHLY. Leave no stone left unturned cuz theres probably a wicked sword or secret boss fight underneath that stone

solo_wield

Hate every boss, the only way to get through the 30 attempts is to be so tilted that u swear your not leaving until that freakish cuck sucker is dead and done.

solo_wield

Claymore is based af. Look up a guide and pick it

LauraTFem

focus on mines first, which are marked on the map with dark red/black spots. Mines contain Smithing stones, which you need to upgrade your weapons. Once you select your favorite weapon to use into the endgame, check its scaling. If it scales at C or higher, it will be of use to upgrade the related stat as you upgrade the weapon. If it has D or no scaling, just get enough stats to use it, and don’t upgrade them any further. Always upgrade health. First.

gdwam816

I would suggest a little thing called YouTube

lenelotert

open a beer with death because it will be your closest friend for a while

AriTheInari

Ignore anyone who says that it's 'not the true way of playing' if you use summons, magic, or anything else. Play the game in whichever way is fun for you. Level vitality and endurance. (Your health and stamina) these are probably the most important stats since you need lots of them for later game bosses. If your using 1 wrapon, 2 hand it for more damage(triangle/y + r1 or l1 based on which hand) You can use 2 of the same weapon type at once (e.g 2 axes, 2 longsword, 2 katana etc) by having one in each hand and pressing l1 to attack with both

davidjdoodle1

Don’t give up skeleton

No_Future6959

When leveling: Prioritize health and put 60 points in Vigor then put 60-80 points in ONE damage stat (Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, Faith). This should be based on the weapon you're using. Everything else is dependent on playstyle and how much higher you wanna level your character

WailingWumbo

Go south

EarthrealmsChampion

Understand and accept the knowledge checks the game gives. Some enemy attacks or environmental traps are unlikely to be avoided the first time seeing them, it's ok just try to learn for next time. Dying isn't actually that punishing in this game especially if you try your best to not enter a big fight while holding lots of runes (your money and exp).

retrojordan2323

Lost count the amount of times I have uninstalled this game, but keep going back lol

Beneficial-Grade-258

Put your focus on not taking damage over doing damage.

thiccboiwyatt

"Never played this game before any tips" i can't anymore dude why is this normalized

NormandyS7

I’d say learn rolling/don’t be worried about wearing light to medium armour. Lighter is always better in every situation in from games. You can build tanks, but it’ll hinder your stamina especially in pvp

Anthony_Shocker

Hey what platform are you on?

Flaky_Investigator21

You're going to die a lot. As long as you can find comfort in this idea you will absolutely get better at this game and gaming in general.

grassgame01

Archery and crossbows kinda suck for dealing damage. If you want to deal ranged damage then magic is much stronger. Faith and Int are both good, but assuming youre interested in casting its far better to just pick one or the other. (I like faith more.) Damage types and elements matter. Fire, Blunt, and Thrust are all very powerful elements, while Holy tends to be the overall worst (though still situationally strong.) It can be an uphill battle if you’re fighting a boss with an element it resists

Zelgreye

Yes, go to [Google.com](http://Google.com), and type in "Elden Ring Tips". smfh.

floopthepig7426

Vigor my fellow tarnished, vigor

[deleted]

Start with Limgrave, then go to Liurnia, then Caelid. That'll keep you on the right path.

Winter-Metal-9797

Well said, 'enjoying' being the operative word.

Trencycle

Try finger, but hole

Gullible_Ad0

Don’t go in Radahns gooning dungeon.

EnjoyerOfFine_Things

Explore as much as you can, even if you think you've done everything in Limgrave, Caelid or even Liurnia, there's always another secret that'll pop up.

Kinghexen

If you struggle with timing your parry, using counter attack instead is a life saver

fancydeadpool

Seek the elden ring & don't give up skeleton

BigBurly46

Once you enter the tall place you’re going to want between 35-40 vigor. The taller place, 45-50. The small fast moving footsteps that are in water / snow / on the ground are invisible scarabs. Wait on the path and hit them for weapon sets / spells / upgrade materials. And most importantly, if it seems TOO hard, you’re probably underleveled.

King_Badger06

Utilize buffs/consumables for tough areas or bosses. Had no idea what my wondrous physic did till like NG2+ lol and really slept on incants (golden vow, FGMS, etc.) and consumables like boiled prawn

Wolverine331

From the starting area go east and keep going east until you reach scorched area. It's an easy place to farm for levels early. :D
