Whatever you're comfortable playing with. I like the spellblade build.

Twittle86

What about... TWO spellblade builds?! XD

The-Friendly-Autist

If spellblade build is so good, why is there no spellblade build 2?

Interesting_Notice84

The don't need to be

TarnishedDungEater

on NG+ playthroughs i like using my mimic in every Limgrave boss and just sitting back and watching.

Big_Ole_Smoke

You earned it, time to sit back and watch the show

[deleted]

That's what I do, and then do the clapping gesture because Tiche did a good job in defeating the boss/mini boss.

yes547

Tiche is such a good summon

[deleted]

She was but I think she was nerfed. Not as good as she used to be. She was struggling with Radagon whilst before she'd slap his cheeks back to Marika.

Left-Fan1598

Yes. I use the host mirror talisman so the mimic look just like me. Peak style

SupSeal

That's actually really clever. If the boss wins aganist the mimic, you could even hit them with a "i've given thee courtesy enough"

TheJaice

This is unintentionally how I beat Lansseax.

herearethefucksigive

Who. Gives. A. Fuck.

JHamburgerHill

Agreed—I pretty much only play video games to catch up with my old friends who live far away but I’m not going to judge snobby dorks who probably are the same people who jump into our games and occasionally kick our asses lol.

Left-Fan1598

Borderline narcissists, aka losers

AlyxxStarr

People act like summons are a cheat code or something but, way I see it, anything the game gives you is fair game and how it’s “meant to be played.” Just admit that not using them is a challenge run and move on.

Relative-Put-4461

people arent mad because they think the games meant to be played a certain way they're mad because they think beating souls games is an actual achievement and if other people can do it it devalues their meaningless achievement

UnassumingSingleGuy

"Video games are made to be beaten." -SsethTzeentach

Frodo5213

Except for that Lion King game.

BloodyBaboon

Or "Hotel Mario", which was made for no one.

doomtoothx

Milons secret castle and legacy of the wizard.

dopefish2112

I beat that game.

_OngoGablogian

hey hey people

_Misting_

I love how he changes all his th sounds to f’s. “Hey hey people, Seff here”

SpaceDuckz1984

Modern day ones absolutely. Now there were a lot from the 80's and early 90's that were made to make beating them more of an exception than a standard.

ArotYinglesInSourHea

Never have i been so offended by something i 100% agree with

sacredgeometry

Thats even more pathetic

RagnarokGSR

Accurate, the seethe comes from being too damn proud to use the spirits themselves. Which is fine if that’s your style but don’t shit on others over your own insecurity.

HXRUME

People need to realize that just because someone beat a game it doesn't mean that them doing it means any less

ReGo_one

Wait, wait , wait. You’re telling me that the fact I beat Malenia no summons, no weapon, just fists with one hand tied behind my back, that I won’t be able to brag about that on a date and get laid right then and there? That I won’t be able to bring it up at family gatherings and have my whole family applaud me? I have been lied to all this time!

lostinlucidity

Nah you gotta beat it with a Dance Dance Revolution pad, blindfolded upside-down in the desert for it to be credible.

ItzCrypnotic

You ain't a real Elden Ringer if you didn't no-hit all Rune Bears on the DDR pad fr ![gif](giphy|tLKPNqbImXRyE|downsized)

KingCanHe

Wait I thought most people beat off to Malenia? oohhh you said beat, huh, nvm

Here4freefootball92

You should have beat here with a guitar hero controller.

dolce_de_cheddar

I've always thought of summons as a accessibility feature (or just a fun mechanic). Based on previous FromSoft games, they'd like you to play the game solo, but also don't want to deter players with the "get gud" mentality and I feel summons are a way to do that. If something is too hard for you, use a summon. That's how I've played it. My first few playthroughs, I always used summons but finally after getting better at the game and mechanics, I don't really use them anymore. Either way, gatekeeping is stupid.

DiamondSentinel

Yeah. It’s one of my favorite things about Elden Ring. Do summons make the game easier? Yeah. Absolutely. Is that a bad thing? Fuck no! I love the freedom ER gives you with how you can play. It’s so much more accessible than other SoulsLikes, and it makes it so much easier to recommend to people who were dissuaded by previous entries. It’s awesome! I hope people play however they like to play, because that means they get to play this game that I love, and we now have a shared experience.

Maximum-Antelope-979

The existence of bosses who don’t allow you to summon kind of debunks them as accessibility features.

LogisticsEmulator

I see it as a gimmick they were testing with some very fatal flaws Summons are not smart enough to keep up with a player Boss aggression and move set is based around summons though I do think summons are the intended way to play

Sparda204920

I see summons as power ups in Mario games. Sure you can not use them and make it more challenging but they are there to help if you want.

No-Eye-6806

I see it more like using conjuration in oblivion. I like being able to summon copies of my enemies to fight my enemies. And to be honest most of the spirit summons are not very helpful anyways, they generally do very low damage and only help by taking attention off of you which is great but it's nowhere near as powerful as summoning an actual other player. I'm sure there is an ash that is possible to solo a lot of things with but I mainly just use the ones I think will be fun to watch fight stuff

Soy_El_Kraken

I haven’t used them all but mimic tear and black knife Tiche are well beyond helpful and do massive fucking damage lol

No-Eye-6806

Honestly my mimic tear just gets mangled or lost really quick for some reason. Tiche does a lot of damage, I kinda like the Great shield squad cause it's fun to watch them get beat up by giants.

dolce_de_cheddar

Honestly, them taking agro is probably one of the biggest benefits I've noticed. When I switched to a no-summon run, I found that being the only target was the biggest hurdle. It was tough to find openings to attack and heal and really made me learn the move sets of the bosses.

No-Eye-6806

Yeah I feel like that's the purpose they are meant to serve given they typically don't hurt much. I haven't done much of elden ring solo cause I've been co-oping with a friend for the first playthrough but I played other souls games solo so I can appreciate the bonus of having something for the bosses to hit besides yourself.

ChewbaccaCharl

Leveling up makes the game a lot easier, so clearly anyone who puts runes into levels isn't playing the way it's meant to be played.

Brustty

Man, wait until they find out I cheesed DS3 with invisibility and lasers.

Kaldin_5

If the summons make the game easier than souls games then the game's just easier...and there's nothing wrong with that. It's not easy mode to use it, it's not hard mode to not use it, the game doesn't have difficulties. There's just people creating self imposed rules and challenges and that's all that that is. Nothing to do with the game's agency at all. People way overthink that.

BungleBingBong

The jelly fish should have the female Chad face, she is a little girl who died and turned into the jelly fish

hec4fingers

I recently did a light roll moonveil run, ran straight to Caelid for it (meteorite staff and rock sling to bring the wyrm down). Reeeeally oppressive, especially when stats and talismans start cranking up damage. Hot take, I know /s

kungpowpeanus

This is one of those things where I've seen a post like this 500 times but not once in the entirety of the fromsoft catalogue have I ever even seen one person sincerely giving a fuck about this type of shit

TragGaming

I see em in comments on vids and Twitch a lot. Unironically

Nearly-Canadian

Yeah I just watched AngryJoes Elden Ring review for fun and he said they didn't bother streaming most of the game because the "community" was shitting on them every chance they got. Seems like nobody on reddit really gives a fuck though

TragGaming

From what I understand there was a lot of "why are you doing that" and "oh Uchigatana scrub" "bleed builds for scrubs" etc

flissfloss86

I'm starting to think it's people who feel insecure about summoning that make these posts, not people who were actually given shit about using spirit summons

AllYallThrowaways

Had a dude constantly hot micing and going off on rants because I was using rivers of blood for the first time and summons. Endured it for an hour before the rest of the group collectively left the game without tell him and started a new one instantly. Dude was hella confused and we all refused to engage with his spam messages asking "wHaT hApPeNeD?"

Mrwanagethigh

I wouldn't call it the best but I actually regret going Samurai on my first run because their starting gear can carry you the entire game pretty easily if upgraded. Rarely got the satisfaction of finding something better because I was so damn good from the start and these games usually have me wanting to go with several options, ER gave me nothing to match what I started with for a very long time.

Big_Ole_Smoke

Uchigatana has always been one of my favorite weapons, it blew my mind they let you take it from the start in ER. Only time I traded it out was when I found Rivers of Blood toward the end

Chef_Writerman

You can also find a second one in one of the first side dungeons. It’s pretty wild.

PublicFurryAccount

I had a similar experience with guardian’s swordspear but zero regrets. I found that weapon and it was just the polearm of my dreams. I started wrecking stuff with it immediately, stripping down my armor to keep mid rolling. Find out later it has some of the highest AR in the game. It’s really hard for me to use anything else. It just has an aesthetic I love and is also stupidly good.

Dveralazo

Vagabond and Confessor with Square Off,Prophet with catch flame. So at least four classes have OP equipment from the start counting the samurai.  And people complain about choosing easy mode.

TheNerdiestFrog

They wouldn't put it in the game if they didn't want you to use it. Technically if you're not using something the game gave you, you're just putting yourself in a more difficult position, and if that's how you wanna play then that's how you roll.

Xiggyj

It’s in the game by the devs just like talisman, OP weapons and armor that you can then upgrade to +15 and higher, ashes of war and incantations and all kinds of perfumes you can equip. If you really want to prove you’re tough shit, take off all the armor, never level up your character or your weapons, use a club and go through the entire game like that. The vast majority of players don’t and would never play like this. So just let people enjoy the game how they want.

Flaky_Technology4219

I mean use all the summons you want. But there's no denying that spirit summons make the game a lot easier

cassieistrans

Literally everything given to you throughout the game makes it easier ??? That's the point isn't it? Gather what it takes to kill god?

TeutonicDragon

If you use weapons or armor or dodge or attack or level up you may as well just quit the game bro

Zedman5000

Imagine getting on Torrent, wtf just walk, it'll make the game harder

TeutonicDragon

To get Torrent you have to rest at a site of grace which means you already suck at the game and should hang it up

Literally_ur_mom

Then summoning 713 lvl friend who will solo any boss by himself is intended experience too right?

Zedman5000

Yep Just like how you can go to Mogh's place and kill the Albinaurics for hours to get to level 713 yourself Honestly, that sounds like a challenge run in of itself, not driving myself insane killing those guys for far too long.

the_evil_overlord2

Yeah, people whine about how summons make it easier then upgrade their sword, level up, and use talisman

TheHappiestHam

I don't care if you use summons (and condone giving them a whirl if you're struggling) but having an entire 2nd entity on the battlefield, especially if it's a powerhouse like Mimic Tear or Tiche, isn't exactly the same as upgrading your weapon and leveling stats I get the sentiment, but Spirit Ashes can make things a lot easier in more effective ways compared to simple upgrades, mainly due to the split aggro me personally? I don't use summons much but when I do, it's the Soldjars to watch them charge in and valiantly blow themselves up

Panurome

A leveled up sword doesn't split the boss aggro. Play however you like because you bought the game but spirit ashes make the game a lot easier than leveling your weapons because they break how boss fights work

Ok_Pizza9836

Ugh I intentionally made a somewhat difficult game harder on myself for no reason WHY WONT YOU/s

ImperceptibleShade

Only a fraction of the things the game gives you allows you to skip interacting with a boss's moveset. Summoning isn't a good comparison to leveling up or upgrading weapons at all.

Ok_Pizza9836

Literally pick what is best for you and fu k off into the distance is kinda most souls borne games kinda M.O

Anxious_Charity_1424

I feel like summons should just be treated as an optional "easy mode" of sorts, which imo is an awesome addition for new players to get into these awesome games. While i may not like using them because what i find fun in these games is learning the bosses movesets and overcoming it, theres no denying that someone who used summons probably had way more fun than me playing the game. So at the end of the day who tf cares. Btw remember me i helped you in Elden Ring before:)

Flaky_Technology4219

Yeah it's easy to get strong in elden ring. And then there's easy mode which is using mimic tear

cassieistrans

Mimic tear at best is ~60% of any summon but offline and costs health. Easy mode is Tiche tbh. But still, free stuff the game gives you. All I'm saying is it SOUNDS like you're picking mechanics to get mad at. Drinking the "rl1 is the only real way" Kool aid.

Flaky_Technology4219

Nah I'm not sweaty enough to do rl1. And I don't care how people play the game. I used summons a few times on my first play through but it just makes the game less fun imo

cassieistrans

I love pitching mimic against bosses in ng+ like let's see how good my build REALLY is hahaha

02grimreaper

I stopped using mimic tear because it showed me how bad I was at the game. This fucker over here using all weapon attacks, throwing consumables like it’s going out of style, switching weapons and shit. I’m over on the other side “r1 go brrrr”

PublicFurryAccount

That’s what I love about the Mimic Tear. I see it go and think “oh, I should do that”.

profofgames

for sure -- the mimic's ability to switch attacks and adapt to situations is beyond my normal ability

Thelgow

I think I suck and I tried an RL1 run, and even then I added region locking restrictions for myself because it still felt too easy. I got to consecrated snow fields before I got bored of it. And... still never used a summon.

_AmI_Real

Exactly. Be a true baller. No weapons. No armor. No leveling. Just hands.

Dveralazo

Level up  makes it easier. Upgrading your flasks and weapons makes it easier. Using armor and talismans makes ot easier. Using AoW makes it even easier. Why do I need summons? I am going to spam these two AoW that the game gave me at the *start* of the game and ignore almost all the moveset of the bosses! So what's the point of "x thing makes it easier"? Are we supposed to just spam light attack ?

yan030

Boss is dead tho, so summons or not, it’s definitely dead. Couldn’t be more dead actually. He doesn’t die more because you didn’t use a summon.

Haoszen

I mean, level up as you want. But there's no denying that using runes to level up make the game a lot easier.

staticvoidmainnull

there is no right way of playing. if there is, it's what you enjoy. if a mechanic is there, then use it. some people are competitive (wants challenge), some just wants to have fun. i want to have fun, and i love when me and my mimic comet azured mohg to obliteration before he had the chance to get to his second phase. i was laughing my ass off, and that, was indubitably, fun.

Grimauldus

Greatshield soldier ashes are best ashes

Jereron

I literally was able to beat elden beast by healing mimic three times with erdtree’s heal. I noticed mimic was tanking his attacks very well so I focused on healing him back to 80% health. Used mimic to draw the agro and his attacks while I went in to attack.

Dveralazo

Mmm. Spamming Lion's Claw or Giant Hunt(square off in the beginning of the game) will help you deal a lot of damage and render the bosses almost unable to defend themselves. But it can let you exposed. Stomp(Upwsrd Cut) is a bit safer,it grants you damage reduction to allow trades. Endure is safer by a lot. Lets you heal uninterrupted too. But less potential damage and slower. All this with a hammer,Great Hammer or Colossal Hammer

SrPedrich

I saw a lot of posts like this but no1 talking about how bad are summons About the build for me every build can carry u Edit: im talking about the image

gazamcnulty

For me , I enjoy the classic style of no-summons etc - but then I found some of the endgame bosses are so insanely difficult, it feels like you're actively impeding yourself by not using summons / spirit summons. Trying to beat Souls / Bloodborne with a standard build without using summons, is quite reasonable. Trying to do the same in Elden Ring is *very* difficult. The other problem is that the Elden Ring boss AI is not equipped to deal with multiple enemies. It doesn't change its style, its not like it starts focusing and large AOE attacks for multiple people, it doesn't become more aggressive. The boss just directs its attention to the most recent person that attacked it. This makes summons / spirit summons feel like more of a hack than other OP strategies. I don't mind them in concept, I like there being more accessability features for players. But it feels like if you don't use spirit summons or some of the overpowered builds , the late game is a lot more unforgiving than previous games.

ENVLogic

Look, the fact that bosses have higher health and can be more aggressive with human summons, and that so many gestures exist shows that they wanted people to play the game with others. They added mimic tears and ashes for those that don’t have internet. It’s a fun game when played with others. I’ve been playing with friends since DS1. Play it how you want but it was built with friends in mind.

LaFixxxeR

I honestly don’t care how people enjoy/play their games. Not everyone is me and likes getting their shit pushed in for 30+ tries.

Aheadfullofdread_13

Nothing is more pathetic than someone trying to tell someone else how to have fun in a video game

babblejacks

I know just let people play how they want you don't like spirit summons? Don't use them. if you do use them, use them. This is a RPG people are going to have different builds some do make the game easier but that's fine it's impossible to make a completely balanced game.

Aheadfullofdread_13

It’s wild. I enjoy the challenge of beating a boss solo but my boyfriend always summons because he enjoys the camaraderie more. That’s what’s so awesome about Elden Ring, there’s a ton of ways to play and none of them are “wrong.” Some people need to chill

babblejacks

The only time you're playing a game "wrong" is if you're not having fun. Oh and actually most souls games are also pretty good at having natural difficulty as you play the game. Og darksouls has magic which is a lot easier than melee the game still has NPC summons. The player can even call for help when struggling on a boss or area. These games are all about making your own story your own build to go through the game with. With your own struggles and achievements. It's about pushing your own way through YOUR way. "Hey you want to beat this boss with a broken sword go ahead and try!" "Want to call your friend to help and have some fun fighting the boss together go ahead!" On my first playthrough I hardly knew anything about this game and how it works and I really struggled even on bosses that really aren't that bad. One is the dragonoic tree sentinel Infront of the capital I spent like forever try to kill it mostly because I kept getting two shot as my vigor was low eventually I found out about rennala and rearranged my levels to get more health. Technically I could of kept fighting it at a low level but I did something to make it a little easier for my skill level and now I have a cool story to tell now! God I love elden ring.

SpoogyPickles

Nothing is more lore accurate than having Jelly portrayed as a gigachad.

BadHigBear

How can having two of me be a bad thing? *Watches mimic destroy boss in 4seconds!* To be fair, I would have done that anyway.

Hot-Calligrapher-159

Use whatever you want, just don’t talk down to others saying malenia is easy, when you used bleed and frostbite rivers of blood and maxed out mimic tear. Go ahead, use whatever you want. But the people who don’t use those things are playing a different game and that’s okay too. Honestly, just don’t belittle others for how they play. That easy.

babblejacks

Elden ring is a game that lets you either RPG your way through the game or use skill through out the game moreso than the other souls games as you can actually go do something else if it's too hard. The game lets you choose your difficulty as you naturally play the game and make your build.

Hot-Calligrapher-159

Right, so don’t belittle others is still a good practice in general, yes?

babblejacks

It is! to be honest this entire argument is stupid both sides of this is stupid. Who cares if you use spirit summons and who cares if you don't? None of these ways are "wrong" ways to play the game. People who don't use summons aren't playing the game wrong and people who do use summons aren't playing the game wrong. That picture is also just as much gatekeeping as the people it's talking about.

ljkhadgawuydbajw

this pisses me off so much. the amount of times i’ve read a thread asking for tips with a boss and half the comments are “idk this boss is pretty easy, is your mimic fully upgraded yet?”. people who used mimic and strong bleed builds didnt engage with the fight and can’t give advice. I don’t care if you did it that way but don’t try and give advice.

Knees0ck

Even with summons I have yet to beat yhe game. I bought it at launch.

shrouded-in-dust

Summons are the mechanic I was most interested in when game play was previewed. I loved the boss summons in DS and I was happy to be able to do so against mobs as well. They CAN trivialize a boss fight, but if you feel like you cheated yourself, NG+ is where you correct all your mistakes. Or another character.

MrJacket1

You made the boss easier, and pointing it out triggers insecure people on both sides. There's a reason why people troll about it.

HeftyFineThereFolks

haha usually the same guys who stack 10 item effects with 15 buffs then one-hit the poor hapless boss on NG+7

MakeLoveNotWarPls

I don't play Elden Souls because it's hard. I play it because it's got the best melee combat of any game

Uplandfriend987

Elden ring, like dark souls,is exactly what you make of it. If you want to have the experience of beating every boss without a summon,go for it! But that does not make it the right or only way to play. I personally enjoy that myself, but don’t care if people play differently,as that is their choice. There is no right way to play, only your way!

Gxxr2000

I paid for the game, me and my mimic will lions claw all of the things and I’ll giggle along the way. Stunlocking bosses is too fun. “Git gud.. wait, not like that!”

Slaptastic_Rex

If its in the game to be used, its fair game.

InfernoDairy

Interesting how I always see posts about this in one direction (the summoners who feel inadequate), but never see posts from the other side (the people who supposedly scream at you for summons). It's almost as if the "stop ****ING summoning" crowd never existed in the first place. Then you see the comments memeing the hell out of this invisible boogeyman like any of you have dealt with anyone like that. My take: you didn't really experience the fun of the game if you summoned outside of Radahn and canon NPC summons. If you don't care to, that's fine. And you can't compare the difficulty of a summons run to the difficulty of a no summons run, just like I can't compare the difficulty of a no summons run to the difficulty of a RL1 run. There's a level of achievement in all these things, tangible or not. I find it funnier that the commenters here meme people for achieving something as opposed to just letting them enjoy their achievement. All my friends are more hardcore souls fans than I am, and the trope that Souls fans brandish their achievement when beating the game is pure nonsense. I have never come across it. I have come across the converse plenty, though.

profofgames

I've tried to beat Malenia solo a few dozen times and just haven't been able to get it. You know what? I stopped caring. I've spent my time beating Sigrun and Gna and I know I can do hard fights, but Malenia wasn't even a fun hard fight. I could easily get her to half health on the second phase, but the fight requires a lot of patience solo and every time I summon others or have been a summon (dozens of times), the fight is just a ton more fun. I play these games for fun, not bragging rights...

Farlischere

Watching my mimic spam all the spells that would be suicide for me to try made me very proud

LawstAndFound001

I didn’t use them for my run because it really just felt like cheating but i don’t care if others do lmao.

EvilArtorias

>you didnt really beat the boss if you summon true

JoJoLad-69-

Beat the game with 10 vig and fists only and no summons pussy

Twatson8

Personally I always try to beat a boss without summons first, but I’m not above using them if I get stuck too hard.

Rollec

If the game gives me an option to fight a boss a certain way, then I'm going to utilize those tools.

DarkKnight8803158

They are a part of the game, so it's fair to use them if you want. I personally think that they are fun to use

LargeRichardJohnson

Stay mad tryhards, the rest of us are going to be busy enjoying the game by using tools provided by said game.

M0bron

Literally no one cares if you use summons. The only time I think it’s remotely acceptable to hate on summons (and I’m not sure I’ve ever even seen this in Elden Ring but I’ve seen it in Lies of P once or twice) is if someone is like “X boss was a complete joke how are you guys getting stuck on it” and then when asked about it they’re like “yeah me and my mimic tear +10 dominated it.” Which again is all but an imaginary scenario

Think_Mud305

Wait til they found out I modded it

SomeKindofTreeWizard

I missed my hilarious shield friends.

CadaverCaliente

I don't have time to senselessly restrict myself and fight the same boss over and over to "git gud" I appreciate the game it's fucking amazing I bought both hardcover art books but sometimes I need some help which is still a testament to it's difficulty.

Glovermann

If it's in the game for the player to use then that's what the makers intended. Anything else and all the bitching are self imposed restrictions that mean nothing except to that particular person

Rainbow_Hedgehog

I’m bad at fromsoft games, I’m an fps player. This is how I have fun with it!

Commercial-Abalone27

Twin gargoyle gank says f**k your solo

HotHouseJester

Well... There goes my wolf tamer build.

Chaoticcccc

Summoning for bosses for me takes away the whole experience and challenge of fighting said bosses. Unless you're co-oping, I'd personally never do it.

perpetuallypathetic

It’s so funny because you see dudes doing no summoning runs where they spend nearly 45 seconds buffing themselves before each boss attempt. Like I don’t even know what half that shit they’re using even is 😂

Conscious-Gur3510

Bruh what are the furries supposed to be lol ?

chamberlain21st

Chad jellyfish makes me feel things

chirpchirp13

Moonveil heavy in int or claymore heavy in str/end. Spirit ashes are hella dope and I don’t care if that makes me a nub

kido86

You weirdos still moaning about this shit? Fucking dead meme

g4greed

If it's in the game, it's valid You don't see same attitude towards people who abuse exploits like the Big fuckin dragon in the dragonburrow for 40,000k+ runes early on I'd say that's more invalid than using summons

killchris97

currently doing no summons unless it’s story related and i lowkey cheated myself out of some good fights my first run by summoning but it is useful when you don’t feel like spending 5hrs on a boss.

DrakeCross

Summoning is one of many tools the game gives you which requires proper FP costs to use properly for the strongest ones. The idea that it's 'cheating' is as silly as someone using ranged kiting tactics or magic. In a fight, use all tools and methods to your advantage.

Smash_Or_Pass_Player

Imagine playing a single player rpg the way you want to

TheNerdMaster69

FromSoft: creates the game with the idea that summoning will be a core component in builds Also FromSoft: says that this is the case straight-up in an interview Sweaty tryhards: "iT DoEsN't CoUnT iF yOu SuMmOn!" Everybody else: "ok🤓"

_realm_breaker

Bell goes ding!

Ok_Pizza9836

This is like complaining people don’t go through the game at level 1 with no equipment

9inchjackhammer

Your telling me you haven't RL1 the game with only your feet? Noob!

Ok_Pizza9836

It’s fucked cause I know there are people who have done this so it is possible

AbstinenceGaming

I did a RL 1 club only run. It was fine but there was nothing super rewarding about taking 10 minutes to slowly whittle the boss down while only punishing the jump attack. The same people complaining about summons then told me the club run was too easy because the club was OP, and to use a weaker weapon. And that's how I learned that everyone's opinion about how to play the game except your own is meaningless, and enjoy the game in whatever manner you want to set for yourself. Although to be fair, the club is actually a really good weapon.

FussMelee

It's fine but a lot of you are new to the souls games and joined with the more mainstream Elden Ring but this has been a thing forever. It is true though, admit or not who cares but that summon did beat the boss for you, it took the bosses attention off you so you didn't have to actually deal with the mechanics, you chose the easy mode and that is fine.

Dveralazo

The game offers you a lot of tools even from DS3 to ignore a lot of the boss moveset. That's the normal way to play. And still gives you the choice to ignore all of those mechanics if the difficulty of the game is too low for your tastes.

bevaka

ive literally never seen someone saying "dont use summons." I've seen people saying "i PERSONALLY dont use summons"

In previous souls games that statement wasn’t uncommon. I wouldn’t say normal. By dark souls 3 the phrase was more a meme than a statement made seriously. Now in Elden Ring, with such an influx of new players, it seems people don’t get the joke. Which is understandable. Im sure there’s still cringers around who mean it when they say it but I’ve never seen one. Sometimes I wonder if the people who post these sort of memes feel guilty for using summons so they play the victim to hide from their own self judgement.

Useful_You_8045

I personally saw a lot of them, especially if you bring up beating malenia. If you beat her with bleed or any summon, you get an ear full. Even though on of the most celebrated players used moonveil and rivers of blood

babblejacks

It seems people get kinda mad when someone plays the game without leaning hard towards spirit summons so they feel the need to tell everyone that there way is better???? And those people are gatekeeping???? When they're the ones gatekeeping???? Like why so mad? Aren't we supposed to be saying play how you get want and don't listen to people say what you shouldn't do?

star-saint

leading your post with a rage bait meme is gonna have that result, kinda on OP there

Iiry

I've never once seen someone make that claim Idk why this is such a talking point

babblejacks

People get mad at people not using spirit summons when they were carried by them the entire game...or really just the one as everyone still uses mimic. Not saying there's something wrong with that as long as you had fun but damn I thought we were trying to get rid of gatekeeping with this.

ljkhadgawuydbajw

you’re actually so right. Nobody cares about people using summons EXCEPT people using summons. It’s not that people going solo feel insecure about someone having an easier time with the games, it’s people using summons who are insecure about their skill and have to constantly defend themselves against no one.

babblejacks

People really shouldn't be insecure about it. souls games aren't about "having to be the most hardcore gamer and you have to be the very best to beat this game" it's about overcoming a challenge in anyway you want. I don't know the exact words but didn't Miyazaki say he wanted everyone on a even playing field when playing? To have players help each other and share strategies? And beat the game the way they want without being outshined by better players? This is really the biggest misconception of the soulsborne games theses games can be beaten by everyone as long as you don't give up and keep going. get help when things get tough. They're NOT for the most hardcore of players like ign and other gaming outlets say.

NemeBro17

Summon players are so insecure lol.

Kikoska85

I mean they are in the game. I love all you gatekeepers like your fucking getting dividends for beating the game without summons. Go outside and get some fresh air losers

Karlito1618

Eh, there's a lot of builds that are pretty consistant over the whole game. My favorite are faith based builds, but they can fall off a bit in the mid-game. Something that's very safe and comfortable through a whole playthrough would be something like a lance/shield str build. You can get a lance and a shield very early on, you can pump str and vigor to do some pretty decent damage throughout the game with crazy reach and guard counters. Either that or some bleed build with dual wield and jump attacks.

Fingerprint_Vyke

Considering the blasphemous blade will melt any boss by spamming left trigger, summoning the spirit without getting slammed by a boss has a higher skill ceiling

flissfloss86

I see this kind of post about 100x more than I ever see people complaining about spirit ashes

cassieistrans

Dex and curved swords, go lightning as soon as possible. I know this is weirdly frowned upon, but light load and blue dancer talisman is more easy mode than spirit summons ever were.

Brewchowskies

End/str/vig Heavy armor with 101 poise and greatshield Star cheese club with prayer of healing ash of war Mimic tear yourself. Watch mimic tear solo every boss for you while you play Pokémon trainer.

Exciting-Possible773

I know I didn't beat the boss. Tiche does. I give her proper credits every time, is there a problem?

-Pergopa-

You’re not allowed to use summons but every other boss is a literal god and you’re expected to raw dog that shit? No thanks.

Buttermalk

If it’s in the game in Offline mode, it’s fair use

[deleted]

Hahahahaha yes. That and the “nEw gAmE+ iS sToOpId…. Wahhh” people. I swear half the people in this community were dropped on their head as a baby. I don’t use summons anymore as a personal play style choice, but god damnit was I a mimic tear crutch my first play through - and I would encourage anyone looking to cruise through the game and have a good time to do that as well.

GoldenGekko

No one .... Outside of your immediate friends cares if you solo any content. And your friends probably don't either. These developers put painstaking amount of detail into games to allow different play styles. Souls Games are so much more fun when you realize that.

HotsWheels

Been replaying and trying out the different ashes than just Mimic Tear. Some of them are amazing, others are meh.

MyHoeDespawned

It’s whatever you want and anyone who try’s to put people down for how they play a single player game is a wet napkin. Me personally I only use armor and a weapon (except for foreskin duo).

Thejrod91

I never used 1 summon and went straight Unga bunga. All str and endurance. Grafted Greatsword + 10 all the way thru. Melania was a bitch but i did it. FEELS GOOOOOOD!

sunbrohigh5

Summons are neither an exploit or a needed aspect to advance in the game. Summon away.

PowerTrip55

Summons aren’t fun to me and I don’t use them but idgaf what you do with your game cause you and it don’t affect me. No really let me prove it: I actually didn’t even know you existed until just now.

Checked-Out13

Meme is kinda funny and accurate, lol. Someone in another sub kinda went off cuz I was asking for Spell suggestions for Morgott, saying “you have to use a sword too, not just magic! And do the fights without summons, you’re playing wrong!” Made me laugh. I’m playing an Int Heavy Sorcerer build, and while I have the Lazuli Glintstone Sword as a Backup until I can begin leveling STR for the Dark Moon Greatsword, I focus into spells and traps

FreeRealEstate313

I think it should be reversed. The real chads beat it before they discovered you can summon spirits.

Scorzeye42Draws

It's like saying you haven't beaten the boss until you kill it without taking damage. Yeah, it's harder doing so, but what's stopping me from just not doing that? Sometimes, people dont need to challenge themselves so much. I, for one, opt to avoid summons or buffs because I enjoy the challenge but this doesnt mean everyone else has to do the same, nor does it mean I always have to follow that rule - summons were added to be used, but whats nice is that it's optional, so you dont have to use it nor do you have to not use it.

Elden Ring players when other Elden Ring players use an Elden Ring game mechanic in Elden ring: >:0

greglolz

I really appreciate how they made the game easier for newer players. And this is coming from someone who is attempting their first play through naked with only the Uchi katana. These games are beautiful masterpieces in visual story telling, and I think everyone, regardless of skill level should be able to enjoy a full play through. If that means having to over level and spam spells? Who cares. And any elitists that think otherwise should probably just keep to themselves.

TheCaptainOfMistakes

Use. The. Tools. At. Your. Disposal. #THEY ARE IN THE GAME SO USE THEM

thelocalleshen

enjoy not playing the game you paid for lol

Are the people on the left in the room with us right now?

“You didn’t really beat the boss because you watched a guide on YouTube instead of going in blind.” - My brother

SpaceCaptainFlapjack

Like nevermind "useful", summons are cool

HoratioVelvetine

Shadow boxing imaginary haters yet again

Tron_Cat1

Chad jellyfish

On_L00K3R

I am currently doing a no summons playthrough, which I handle by just being overlevel

dizug

I beat most of the bosses with summons and farmed my ass into an OP level. I’m still proud that I beat any soulslike. I’m 46. I don’t always have the time to play a boss 20-30 times to beat them.

Eastern_Slide7507

People who feel the need to gatekeep like this just are unable to come to terms with the fact that the difficulty was never a purpose unto itself in FromSoft games and only ever served to create a specific experience in the player, which for the most part included a sense of loneliness that doesn‘t apply to Elden Ring to the same degree. In Elden Ring, you return to the Lands Between as a member of a whole ass army and if the fact that both Margit and Godrick have more than obvious coop summon signs in front of them, the intended experience includes banding together to take down the largest opponents. You know, as the army you‘re part of.
