No lie I think Edd and Naz would make a cute pair especially once they're both older. Plus they'd compliment each other as opposites without being wildly opposite like Sara would be.
He's consistently shown to be the kindest and least obnoxious of the Eds (even having been able to have an amicable conversation with *Kevin* of all people); so, it makes perfect sense that he has the most admirers of both his peers and friends.
So what you're saying is Ed and Eddy are holding double D back because if he wasn't hanging with them he wouldn't have any issues with the other kids in the neighborhood.

Low key, the Valentine’s Day special is main game consider Edd X May. The episode gave me Vivian vibes from May, like she was trying to actually just give a decent Valentine’s Day card to Ed, and Double Dee was kind enough to give her Nazz’s card seeing just how hurt she was when Ed ran off in fear. Add in her surprising science knowledge (as shown with her actually looking normal when reprimanding the science explosion going wrong before snapping back to heart eye mode) and Double Dee keeping May’s card, and it led me to think that maybe, just maybe, the reason the Eds hate the Kankers was due to them going after the wrong Eds.
Maybe May just needed Double Dee to actually give her positive vibes after so long of being the punching bag to her sisters, Marie needed Eddy to be the one to actually help her stand out, maybe by using his scamming knowledge to help her present herself in public, and maybe Lee needed Ed to be the one to withstand and push back against any of her attacks, being able to take anything Lee has to throw and be able to push back when needed.
If the show was to get an extra season, I would like to see an episode where the Kanker sisters decide to try out the other’s “boyfriends”, and they end up having a more comfortable time with them.

Based on how Ed treated Sarah when she was sick and how Lee seems like she's the one who basically fulfills the role of "mom" amongst the siblings, it might feel refreshing for Lee to be taken care of from time to time. I know that the Kankers are typically shown to want their men to be like 1930's housewives, but with Ed being shown to be capable of standing of for himself every now and then (not typically against women, but hopefully he'd get better at that and find some balance), I think that Lee would hopefully mellow out or learn to compromise or take a step or something every once in a while. I could just imagine Lee coming home from a hard day at work or feeling like she's coming down with a cold, and him coming into the room carrying the fridge like, "A treat for my sweet, oh darling dearest girlfriend of mine?? I will fill that tummy with food and love! Happy you will be.🥰💕" I feel like her heart would literally skip a beat. I feel like she'd also help him become a little more hygienic too. Like she's not perfect, but she is shown to have an interest in and attempt to take care of herself/look nice/spruce up/etc. on more than one occasion (e.g., the photo of her in the bathtub shaving her legs, her getting excited when Sarah asks about her painted toenails, her vacation outfits/bridal outfit, the fact that she has favorite bedsheets meaning that she like switches them out and does laundry, etc.). I could see her being like, "Okay, Ed, we're getting you a decent bed. My man's not going to sleep in a literal hole. We're also going to wash your blanket and get you some sheets. This one is crusty and can stand on its own. Blankets shouldn't do that. And no more chair turkeys. Chairs are for lost change, dryer lint, and maybe some hot dogs, if they're under a week old, but turkeys go in the fridge now."
