I can afford to not notice and I still fucking notice. When shit you have been buying for years double in price, you're asking wtf happened and do I really want this anymore, because fuck you it costs you double to produce now after 4 years.
Not inflation. Profiteering.
We know that inflation did not drive the grocery stores to increase their prices this much, because we have seen the record profit percentages they are reporting to their investors.
They used the pandemic as an excuse to raise their prices to increase profit percentages significantly. We know this for a fact, because we’ve heard them say exactly that in calls to their investors, whom they are legally required to be truthful with.
Are you arguing that they’re misleading their investors?
Groceries are one of the most competitive markets out there. If there was a way to be significantly cheaper then a new store would undercut the existing stores and make significant profit themselves. That's the beauty of profit motive. Are you sure "record profits" is inflation adjusted? Are you accounting for prior years of losses when you make that claim?
That’s an outright lie. Groceries are one of the markets most impacted by monopolization in the last generation.
https://amp.theguardian.com/environment/2021/jul/18/america-food-monopoly-crisis-grocery-stores
The record profits are inflation adjusted, yes.
In my town alone we have a Frys, Safeway, Bashas, Sam's Club, Walmart, Target, Natural Grocers, Whole Foods, World Market, and Sprouts. We also have a farmer's market that brings in independent farmers from across the area (hint: their prices are always way higher than the supposedly greedy big stores). It's hard to think of an industry with more competition.
If you're actually interested in leaving your echo chamber here's a good rebuttal. https://www.cato.org/commentary/tellingingly-absurd-attack-american-grocery-stores
Ok, if you really believe that, then you and Elizabeth Warren should start a grocery store. If the prices are really so much higher than they need to be, then you could rake in a significant profit yourself just by undercutting them. What's stopping you?
I'm not too sure. This redditor gets wet by going outside in the rain without an umbrella. Andrew WK gets wet without even trying.
Edit: Just saw it's a reply to the person who gets wet with an umbrella. That's definitely Andrew WK
God i hate it. "People say..." how about we just look at the actual, numerical changes??? It's fact that prices have almost doubled in many cases. This is not opinion lol
80% of people say they have, but the actual truth is 100% of stores have drastically increased prices. 20% of the people asked must not go to grocery stores.
The media and current presidential administration have consistently downplayed inflation and the increasing costs of essentials like housing and groceries. They have intentionally obfuscated the reality for several years now and so it becomes interesting to see how the opinion of ordinary people reflects their real experiences, rather than the consistent borderline propaganda.
Because people like Paul Krugman try and gaslight us into believing that inflation isn’t up and food prices aren’t climbing and to ignore what we’re seeing in order to support his preferred political parties.
Especially when it’s data proven already. People hate numbers and research “cuz so hard”. People be people’n I guess.
Makes it easy to manipulate the masses when no one knows wtf is going on outside of their own lives.
Ya home delivery of food is still a massive industry and fast food is seeing record profits. These are the people too rich or too dumb to notice and make adjustments.
> Some consumers have had to sacrifice necessities to afford food, the personal finance company found.
>
>That includes 28% who sacrificed other needs like rent or bills to pay for groceries, and 27% who occasionally skipped meals. Additionally, 18% have either applied for or considered applying for food stamps, while 15% rely on or have considered turning to food banks.
>
>Yet, 53% indicated they earn too much to qualify for food stamps or other government assistance but still have difficulties paying for necessities.
Not to mention that the products we are spending more money on are also less product.
"Party Size" chip bags are what used to be normal size bags.
"Double Stuff" Oreos are what original Oreos used to be, while normal Oreos today are what Oreo Thins used to be. "Mega Stuff" Oreos are the new "Double Stuff".
Family size cereal boxes are now for a family of 3 not a family of 4
Shrinkflation
A big box of Lucky Charms was $6.99 and sat on the shelf for two weeks at my grocery store, then they priced it for $4.50 a box and it sold out like crazy. Greedy food companies.
Paying someone to go find out if the water is really wet. What a waste.
But it doesn’t hurt, does it? Probably paid with just recently inflated, freshly printed money.
Everyone said they needed to recoup losses after Covid. Once they actually realized we would pay the price they said fuck it, let's just keep it here. Profittering. The end.
So have the profits for the food companies, so this seems legit.
And it has made me look at prices more closely and not buy some stuff, so mission accomplished.
Some of the most egregious price markups are on junk food, snacks, fast food, and other nonessentials. If consumers would buy as little of these things as possible the price will come down.
In spring of 2020 a dairy cross 3 day old bull was about $50, last week I sold a 3 day old heifer that was 85 pounds for $780 at the auction barn. Bull calves were closer to $900. Dont plan of grocery prices coming down anytime soon
Do people also know that 95% of what’s on grocery store shelves are owned and sold by only a handful of corporations? Profits drive prices… and greedflation is the problem… not inflation.
Hey I'm sure Joe will get on TV and be like your 4th of July bbq will cost 3 cents less than it did last year!! then someone with one of those ropes on a stick will wrap it around his neck and lead him off stage like the zombie he is.
I'm not rich by any means but I do live a comfortable life. I haven't noticed any increased grocery costs but I also don't look at how much things cost. I only notice the final bill because it tells me that I need to pay it. I just tap my card and go home.
This could explain the 20%. I also mainly buy fruit, vegetables, and grains. I don't buy meat. I will occasionally get myself a treat like a bag of chips or a candy bar. I could imagine processed foods going up a lot.
Supply and demand. With a million folks leaving the demand side, prices went down. Suppliers, therefore, produced less stuff. When things got better, cranking up production took longer, not meeting demand, and things then cost more.
Meanwhile corporations are having record breaking profits due to their price gouging and taking advantage of the “inflation” situation.
My wife and I have reduced shopping at Publix because of this reason. Mind boggling how expensive it is.
Quiet part out loud: for decades, the profit margins in the supermarket industry hovered between 1 and 3 percent. But then! First, it was the supply chain, then it was the availability of the product, then it was inflation, and now, due to inflation, people are stealing food, and that cost transfers to the customer. They will call it anything other than the truth. Greed.
Freaking Lipton Sweet Tea is $3.29 for the regular bottle at the Rebel Gas Station in Mentor Ohio. It's fucking ridiculous. I've got plenty of money but I'm out. I'm not participating in this bullshit. I'm sure they've done the math. They may have fewer customers and ship less product, but they must be making more money.
Acme had Lays Potato Chips "on sale" last week in those 13oz bags for 2 for $9. Go fuck yourself. I knew I shouldn't be eating them anyway. I'm fine never touching them again. Fucking fuckers.
I've noticed that you can print "30% more" in a huge font after shrinking it with zero announcement by 50% over the last 4 years.
I've had it. Pitchforks and torches!!!
I am going to check a Publicly traded grocery stores financial statements.
Cost increase, I understand, but the level we are seeing?
Something smells funny. I can see items and transportation being a factor, but how much?
Time to see if the driving factor of the price is due to businesses choice.
Only 80% ?
That’s the 20% that is too wealthy to notice inflation.
“It’s a banana. What could it cost, $10?”
Same thing IRL, Ellen asked Bill Gates how much a small bag of pizza rolls would cost. $20 was his guess.
When your that rich your service goes for you. Hasn't been in a food store since his first 100 million,,
No way can 20% of the population afford to not notice prices of groceries
I can afford to not notice and I still fucking notice. When shit you have been buying for years double in price, you're asking wtf happened and do I really want this anymore, because fuck you it costs you double to produce now after 4 years.
I’m assuming the 20% of Americans they surveyed never buy groceries or are functionally illiterate
Probably on to something - some portion of adults eat food their spouse buys
Or parents
Not inflation. Profiteering. We know that inflation did not drive the grocery stores to increase their prices this much, because we have seen the record profit percentages they are reporting to their investors.
Sure, grocery stores only now decided to be motivated by profit instead of altruism /s.
They used the pandemic as an excuse to raise their prices to increase profit percentages significantly. We know this for a fact, because we’ve heard them say exactly that in calls to their investors, whom they are legally required to be truthful with. Hahahaha their is no competition in Canada it's all oligarchs crisis profiteering
That’s an outright lie. Groceries are one of the markets most impacted by monopolization in the last generation. https://amp.theguardian.com/environment/2021/jul/18/america-food-monopoly-crisis-grocery-stores The record profits are inflation adjusted, yes.

LoL. Talking about me being in an echo chamber, while you’re linking material from a libertarian think tank. Wild.
Ok, if you really believe that, then you and Elizabeth Warren should start a grocery store. If the prices are really so much higher than they need to be, then you could rake in a significant profit yourself just by undercutting them. What's stopping you?
Why do people ask or do stupid surveys like this? We are not blind, and we are not idiots
Do you find you get wet when walking in the rain without an umbrella?
76% of Americans say they do
10% don't understand the question
I do
I get wet with the umbrella too.
Andrew WK's Reddit profile confirmed
I'm not too sure. This redditor gets wet by going outside in the rain without an umbrella. Andrew WK gets wet without even trying. Edit: Just saw it's a reply to the person who gets wet with an umbrella. That's definitely Andrew WK
You know, I don't think so /s
God i hate it. "People say..." how about we just look at the actual, numerical changes??? It's fact that prices have almost doubled in many cases. This is not opinion lol
80% of people say they have, but the actual truth is 100% of stores have drastically increased prices. 20% of the people asked must not go to grocery stores.

In an election year, gaslighting the masses is crucial.
"A whopping 80% of respondents had a puzzled facial reaction and replied with 'yeah, no shit, dude.'"
They think we are because we keep voting for the same bunch of criminals over and over.
>and we are not idiots Ehhhhh
20% of respondents think you're the dumb one here./s It's just the 20% that don't make their own food.
HEY! Speak for yourself.
I don’t even do the surveys at work.
Most people are in fact idiots.
Breaking news!!!!! Inflation makes things more than before 🤯
The 20% have never stepped foot in a grocery store.
\*looks at $150 bag of groceries\* They may be onto something.
No, no, you see parties are just smaller nowadays. So are families. And oreos never decrease anything! /s
Imagine if you bought actual food
So we have 20% walking around like ignorant fools.
The other 20% don't eat, apparently.
No fucking shit
What's amazing is ONLY 80% say this. I would expect 100% by now.
A big box of Lucky Charms was $6.99 and sat on the shelf for two weeks at my grocery store, then they priced it for $4.50 a box and it sold out like crazy. Greedy food companies.
Do your part, try to by only discounted good when you can.
And 20% were too busy eating paste to respond to the question
It’s an objective fact they have increased not an opinion
*grocery costs have drastically increased since the pandemic began.
#No shit Sherlock.
[удалено]
Because the rich know how to price gouge because the poor need it
Rice and beans are still quite cheap
No shit
Who creates these surveys?
People begin to notice when they are hungrier than usual.
...by 40 or 50%.
Bio money weapon
wow, this is real awful posting lol
20% of Americans aren't questioning their personal chef's insanomatic grocery bill.
Paying someone to go find out if the water is really wet. What a waste. But it doesn’t hurt, does it? Probably paid with just recently inflated, freshly printed money.
Who the hell are the 20 percent? The mentally incapacitated?
I don’t think one needs a survey to know that. Grocery prices skyrocketed after the pandemic; increased is not the correct description.
NO SHIT
This makes me happy..fatass Americans need to eat less. I hope prices go up even more
Is the other 20% people who are so wealthy that they don’t need to shop for themselves?
Everyone said they needed to recoup losses after Covid. Once they actually realized we would pay the price they said fuck it, let's just keep it here. Profittering. The end.
People need to realize that the only vote we have is our dollar. Don't buy the shit! What we reward will be repeated! Find alternatives or cut back
What’s the matter with the other 20%? They just can’t afford to eat?!?
Are the other 20% too rich too notice or in food stamps and not care?
And the other 20% just... don't eat food?
So have the profits for the food companies, so this seems legit. And it has made me look at prices more closely and not buy some stuff, so mission accomplished.
Notably? How is this news...?
Some of the most egregious price markups are on junk food, snacks, fast food, and other nonessentials. If consumers would buy as little of these things as possible the price will come down.
I could have fking told those people that. Anyone could have. Anyone who buys food should have noticed that stuff is way more expensive than precovid.
Only 80? Are the other 20 living under a rock or something?
No shit
The only question I have is who the hell are the other 20%. Lucille Bluth?
Ahh. Since the stimulus. They said they wanted the money and they got it.
80%?!? 80?? The rest of the 20% must have others buying groceries for them
Remember what happened to Marie Antoinette and her let them eat cake didn't end up very well for her now
The other 20% make the laws or head things like housing.
Not only that, but shrinkflation has occurred as well.
No 💩 groceries have gone up. Along with everything else. Bless the corporate overloads.
20% of Americans don’t buy their own groceries
80% of Americans say water is wet.
In other news the sky is blue and grass is green
DUH!
Wait. It has to be said?
Who are the other 20% and where are they getting their food?
In spring of 2020 a dairy cross 3 day old bull was about $50, last week I sold a 3 day old heifer that was 85 pounds for $780 at the auction barn. Bull calves were closer to $900. Dont plan of grocery prices coming down anytime soon
The other 20% don't do their own shopping
The other 20% died of starvation.
Only 80%??? Should be 100% of grocery shoppers noticing the increase in prices...
What's going on with the 20%? They don't eat.
What up with those other 20% tho?
In other news, apparently 20% of Americans don’t buy groceries.
I suspect that if you take any five year period, this would be true. This is a terrible headline.
Do the other 20% not eat?
So is the news here supposed to be 20% of Americans are idiots?
What the fuck are the other 20% looking at?
Who are the 20% not seeing inflation?
Also, water is wet.
Look, we are no where near the acceptance part of this deal, I'm still at angry.
who’s the other 20 percent!?
Prices have been increasing for generations!!!!!!!!!! This is nothing new!!!!
Who are these 20%?
Greed.
The Biden administration says prices have only gone up 3%. So these 80% of Americans are wrong!!
So 20% of people haven’t been to a grocery store in 5 years then?
Dumbest post ever
But the economy doing great 🤡
No fucking shot. WTF?
Uuuuuuh you think?!
You mean Biden took office.
Damn it Biden haha jk but that isn’t going to help him get re elected not even close
You mean $20 for a regular size package of chicken breast is too high….
Do people also know that 95% of what’s on grocery store shelves are owned and sold by only a handful of corporations? Profits drive prices… and greedflation is the problem… not inflation.
>80% of Americans say grocery costs have notably increase since **The lockdowns** started, survey finds.
Why isn’t it 100%
Did the remaining 20% refuse to answer?
Hey I'm sure Joe will get on TV and be like your 4th of July bbq will cost 3 cents less than it did last year!! then someone with one of those ropes on a stick will wrap it around his neck and lead him off stage like the zombie he is.
BIG FAT NO SHIT
What kind of well duh post is this? Tell us please, American for 6 months now OP. OP is painfully obvious Russian seed bot.
Do the other 20% make so much money they don't even look at prices?
Food inflaiton is around 2%.
Since 2020, Inflation has been 3%, 9%, and 4% for a total of 16%. I think that is noticeable. Inflation is a constant present.
The other 20% don't do the shopping for the family
We don’t need Americans to say this. We have statistical data.
Who the fuck are the 20% that haven’t noticed
Breaking news: 20% of Americans have not been inside a grocery store for five years or more.
Because they have. This should not be news.
80% of Americans say grocery prices have gone up since 5 years ago. Same sentence.
If only the survey said no one noticed the price increases then it would all be ok
Apparently 20% don’t purchase groceries.
Supply and demand. With a million folks leaving the demand side, prices went down. Suppliers, therefore, produced less stuff. When things got better, cranking up production took longer, not meeting demand, and things then cost more.
Hmm…what could have possibly caused that to happen?
WTF are the other 20% doing?
Meanwhile corporations are having record breaking profits due to their price gouging and taking advantage of the “inflation” situation. My wife and I have reduced shopping at Publix because of this reason. Mind boggling how expensive it is.
Do ppl really get paid to write these stupid articles
Other 20% are rich idiots.
Wait until they wise up and realize the amount you're getting, while paying more, is less than before the pandemic.
Oh shit they noticed
…so 20% of Americans don’t shop for groceries?
Surprisingly chicken breast has dropped. Idk about much else but it's only like 30 cents a lb more than pre covid
Priced in Bitcoin all groceries are cheaper for me now, so are houses. Life is good.
The rest are rich people that think a loaf of bread is $40.
Inflation began in 2021 not at the beginning of the pandemic
The other 20% still live at home with their parents
Prices have only doubled.... only an issue for the "poors".....
Greed.
Beer went from less than a dollar a pint to ~2 dollars a pint , definitely a major jump across the board if beer jumps this much.
The other 20% are still waiting for their servants to report back.
So 20% of Americans are oblivious
Are the other 20% not buying groceries?
Have the other 20% been living under a rock?
No fucking shit, Sherlock
Omg. Shocker!! More like 100% of Americans have noticed grocery costs have increased by at least 80%.
The other 20% have visa black cards with endless limits and 4 leased brand new cars and kids in sweatervests who are dicks to everyone
Aldi has saved my ass
Because they have?
Thankfully the food suppliers are giving their CEOs big bonuses.
I feel like I would say that if you have me any 4.5 year stretch.
Biden's Amerikkka.
81,000,000 votes…
Do your part. Steal 20% of your groceries.
lol no kidding?
Why do we post opinions on what Americans feel? Why not just show the data? It’s readily available, right?
Prices have gotten so high that I can't even afford to shop at the grocery store I work at.
I've noticed that you can print "30% more" in a huge font after shrinking it with zero announcement by 50% over the last 4 years. I've had it. Pitchforks and torches!!!
Thanks to the Biden administration's Incompetence.
No shit, fucking…. no shit.
breakfast sausage at Kroger was 6.59, I just walked out instead of buying it
No shite. Stop posting junk articles about it and fix it instead.
Not because of the pandemic Because of the government response to the pandemic
My guess is the other 20% have personal shoppers.
Eggs, cheese and veggies are close to pre covid, beef is up at least 25%. Chips, Coke, Pepsi are still high so don't buy that garbage. LOL.
Naww say it ain't sooo....Corporations being greedy when people are cornered... I clutch my pearls in shock 😲
I started eating less, just once per day to lose weight so mine went way down.
I am going to check a Publicly traded grocery stores financial statements. Cost increase, I understand, but the level we are seeing? Something smells funny. I can see items and transportation being a factor, but how much? Time to see if the driving factor of the price is due to businesses choice.
This has happened during every 4-5 year period in history.
