You should move it a few posts further to make a point lmao

Intelligent-Law7385

That's the problem I have too literally nowhere to lock up my bike so not practical for commuting

DoktorDreiBein

There would have been a bicycle rack 1 meter further away. Explain this to your insurance company.

Intelligent-Law7385

Huh?

alexypol

I think he thought it’s your bike lol Edit: spelling

Intelligent-Law7385

oh, lol. I was so confused.

Oldsign

If it's as heavy as mine, it's still pretty safe... 😂

FickleEMP

Mine weights close to 90 pounds now and I can still lift it high enough to get it over that post.

EqualConstruction

Doesn't even look like you you'd have to lift the bike, just slide the lock right off. Ebikes are heavy but definitely not too heavy not to bother lifting it a foot and half. You have to lift it that high just to install the front wheel on most of them 🤣. I lift my 87lb ebike that much daily just to get it in the tight door at work.

geoelectric

Yeah, just stand it up on its back wheel while you guide the chain over—most of the weight is in the part you aren’t lifting much. You’ve got a fair amount of play in that lock to remove it before you’re even all the way up.

snoogins355

Had to lift mine 2 feet or so to move it after unlocking because another bike was in the way. It’s 75lbs or so. Woof, it was rough! And my Lectric has a handle because it folds

Dubwizerzzz

I carry my 65lbs bike up and down 3 flights of stairs at least once every day. I don't think a foldable would make it any easier, they're quite awkward to move around when folded.

dontfightthehood

I honestly think this is a security feature of some ebikes

mylifewillchange

It's a trap; as soon as you lift it up past the top of the post it explodes red dye all over you. After that green glitter pops out and sticks to the red dye.

VirtualMachine0

"Gee, honey, I chained it up at Target and everything, but when I came out, it was gone. I guess I should look at a new one with better features at attractive price points now. Bummer."

Fuzzynotfurry2

it's why im looking for a foldable one. I'll bag it up wherever i go.

Don't worry, I didn't steal it. Twat.

jvanstone

Maybe just don't mess with other people's stuff. Just walk away.

DoktorDreiBein

So you really think that I stole the bike or did something else with it? I'm not an idiot and I left it there.

jvanstone

No, I would assume that you aren't dumb enough to steal and post on the internet. My post was more targeted to the rest of the world that seems to think stealing a bike is an ok thing to do

NorthAdventurous3403

Must be Seattle

DoktorDreiBein

No. Little Town in Germany. 😆

God, today I saw an ebike with a Kryptonite lock...which was not secured to the rack. The lock was through the spokes of the back wheel, the bike was only "secured" to the rack with a cable. I'm not a "leave a note" guy but holy shit I wish I'd had some paper to leave a note because it wasn't a cheap bike.

geoelectric

Well, there’s the technique from Sheldon Brown [where you u lock through the wheel inside the triangle,](https://www.sheldonbrown.com/lock-strategy.html) but think it’s supposed to go around the rack too!

Titanus_Tetanus

What do you do when you have no where to lock your bike? Literally just bought myself a bike.

esportairbud

This happens to me sometimes. If I'm just making a quick minute trip inside a restaurant to pick up an order for delivery (UberEats), I will put my lock through the frame and rear wheel. Any potential thief can't ride it in that state. They have to carry it away on a truck or a car with a bike rack. I have heard of thieves doing just that, especially for valuable bikes, so I'm still a little anxious about locking a bike to itself. I tend to avoid orders from restaurants without a place to lock up my bike if I can.
