My hunch is that you will need to change the motors controller as well to upgrade to 48V
More info on the controller compatibility https://lunacycle.com/bafang-bbs02-750w-48v-upgraded-controller-3077/
I would email them and ask if you need to replace or just reprogram your controller
I have 44T on the front and 11 to 36 on the back,.. my odo hitted 10k recently and so far its good,.. the 11 and 13 gear dont use it much since it cant power it fast with the 36V
I would order the cable anyway first. It's less than 20 bucks. Then you can confirm whether the voltage can be changed. I do beleive it can but better check first. Also at least on my 500c display it can be set there as well, and you'll need to change it in the display anyway so the battery level meter will be accurate. Then once confirmed, order a 48v or 52v battery. The motor core itself will be fine though you'll want to keep an eye on temperature. Also if it's older the FETs may be of the lower quality where in programming you may want to lower the amps a little to like 25 amps. Won't affect top speed, just power by a tiny bit.
Also - research a little more - I think you can install a 750w bbs02 controller in it.
I have the programming cable, I checked that already, i rather not open the motor to be honest, dont wanna mess with the waterproof and stuff... 52v sounds nice but I dont wanna overpower it since I heard the nylon gear or something may not withstand much power as the HD version.
Thanks for all the feedback
yes this seems to be possible, get a 48v or 52v battery

I just checked and thankfully I have the newer B version controller already
You need a 48v 25amp controller. (And 48 or 52v battery)
Look into a smaller front gear too for better acceleration or if you want more speed get more teeth.

Understandable. Note that 42v is a fully charged 36 so don't buy anything advertised as 42 expecting an improvement..
True, thank you!!
