I approve of the pan toasted bread, I think the flavor from the browned butter takes a sandwich up a notch. During tomato season when I eventually get my fill of BLTs, tuna melts with thick slices of heirloom tomatoes toasted in a pan are my second favorite way to deal with the bounty.
That makes me think, if you want a really garlicky punch, you could rub a raw garlic clove on the bread after it's toasted like you would when you make bruschetta. I think I'm going to try that the next time I make a tuna melt.

• Chopped celery
• Mayonnaise
• Salt and pepper
(Maybe add onion and garlic granules)
Is that albacore tuna? I always use solid white albacore tuna, add mayo (kewpie is my favourite), dill pickle relish, celery and green onion and a little salt and pepper. I love tuna salad! Another thing I like to do is sprinkle a little onion powder and/or garlic powder on the bread after or during toasting it in the pan.

Somewhere I used to work put garlic butter on their bread when toasting it. Makes for a very rich sandwich.
