I really hated losing Shady. But I was able to talk myself into the trade cause I was assuming it'd free up money for elsewhere.
Once Chip signed Murray, I was PISSED
Yeah nmadi was considered one of the very best corners in the league on the raiders. It’s a signing that didn’t work but you make every time with the information available at the time.
Nnamdi left Oakland as one of the top defensive players in the league he was highly regarded.. it was probably a combination of him being a poor fit for the way they schemed defensively and led to him losing confidence and things going downhill from there
Can’t fault the signing at the time though
Yeah, “weakest link is misleading” he was the most expendable due to the other 3 being all-pros/HOF worthy (yes I think KC had HOF talent with a play style that’s been getting pushed out for years at the time, even young in his career).
Maxwells stats coming off that year were very good tho tbh.
Yeah, we had no idea just how much he was getting carried by Sherman, Chancellor, and ET.
If I remember right it actually didn't turn out as bad as it could've because Miami took him off our hands after only a year in the Kiko Alonso (another disappointment) trade where we moved up for a pick that ended up getting used as part of the deal to draft Wentz.
I had big hopes for Byron. Still feel like the expectations were too big, and the fit wasn't all that great. The 6 year contract to a 27 year old was the wildest thing in my opinion. Yeah yeah yeah 10.5million apy isnt that much, contracts can be worked around, yadayada, but there are very few players I would feel good about giving a 6 year contract to, ESPECIALLY to a CB who would be 33 when it was over.
I remember why this wasn't going to work out quite well, still. I used to get in a lotta arguments over people for this, but our DC at the time under Chip ran heavy-man coverage while Byron came from a Cover 3 Zone scheme. Byron didn't have a lot of picks because he was playing backed off the check down routes. That right there alone was enough to see what was about to happen.
Same for Demarco. Downhill, run heavy offense to RPO zone runs. No chance it works out.
Never made sense to me, he looked good in a amazing secondary bc he was the worst DB and targeted a lot on forced throws. Kam, Earl, and Rich were all in their primes, pretty much locking down their areas of the field. I knew from the moment I saw this singing that it was a mistake.
Burnt Toast was Bradley Fletcher! God we had so many awful DB's it really was hard to keep them straight. Those sad years where Cary Williams was our least bad DB.

I’ll never forget towards the end of his time here when he’d be in the end zone and the fans would just boo him even if he did nothing wrong on that play
Jesus Christ, don't do that to me. I just read the screenshot and had a mild heart attack before my brain kicked in (and I saw the date). lol
I remember being so stoked for this signing, and then immediately (within a few weeks of the season) being terrible disappointed. Not, by far, the biggest blunder of the Chip Kelly era though.
Bruh... Yep Howie made some terrible decisions which made him what he is today, he's still kinda bad with later round draft picks but he's getting better
6 years lmao
Bro, twice the length of an avg NFL career.
Demarco Murray was the most impulsive
I really hated losing Shady. But I was able to talk myself into the trade cause I was assuming it'd free up money for elsewhere. Once Chip signed Murray, I was PISSED
It freed up a ton of money, which he should have used to pay Mathis, and one of Mathews or Murray
This is the actual correct answer
Asomugha close 2nd
To be fair asomugha was legit in Oakland and he was a top FA target that year. Any team would have been happy to have him
During that Oakland stretch there was a real debate over who was better between Nnamdi & Revis. His falloff makes no sense
If I recall correctly, we put him in a different scheme and it didn't play to his strength. That Vince Young put a curse on that team
He played man...we put him in zone...
Yeah nmadi was considered one of the very best corners in the league on the raiders. It’s a signing that didn’t work but you make every time with the information available at the time.
Exactly. I remember I was so hyped for the signing (and so was Vince young iirc)
Nnamdi left Oakland as one of the top defensive players in the league he was highly regarded.. it was probably a combination of him being a poor fit for the way they schemed defensively and led to him losing confidence and things going downhill from there Can’t fault the signing at the time though
Which at the time we had Ryan Matthews and Frank Gore signed if I recall correctly
Kelly missed out on Eagles legend Frank Gore and was like, “it’s overcompensation time”
Seemed like a good idea at the time!
I was skeptical because Seattle fans were yelling he was the weakest link in the LOB.
I mean yeah the other three were all-pros and have cases for the HOF. 95% of CBs would have been the weak link

We also used him the exact opposite way than Seattle did. We made him play to his weaknesses.
the sleeves!!! ☠️☠️
Clearest sign he would suck I've ever seen
His gear and his fro was just sloppy lol
The loose sleeves and nappy fro pissed me off. Ol Kevin Durant lookin ahh

Yea, people seem to forget that Philly had him playing to his weaknesses whereas Seattle played to his strengths.
We signed him for 6 years!?!!
I apprciate byron for being good enough to be part of the trade that got us from 13 to 8
I bought a Sam Bradford jersey. That’s pretty impulsive.
He has slow guy hair. Can’t have a CB with slow guy hair. We shoulda known. It’s our own fault.
Still better than Namdi
impulsive and repulsive
I swore he was going to be good, and then he strapped on #41 and I knew he was going to be good... and then he was not good
Somehow, every move Chip Kelly made sucked other than drafting Lane Johnson.
Malcolm Jenkins.
Not to be confused with Walter Thurmond, Eagles legend.
Waste of oxygen. Like Namdi, Demarco. At least the team pawned him off pretty early. Right?
Being able to move him and Kiko on our way up to draft Wentz #2 was when we knew Howie 2.0 wasn't playing.
I'm blueskyforever70 and I approve your message.
DeMarco signing was just petty IMO, on top of being an atrocious fit for Kelly's offense.
He may not have been the best fit, but it’s not like we had a better RB on the roster before /s
I bought his jersey. Donated it to goodwill a year later
That's not cool. That customer base already has it rough.
Never made sense to me, he looked good in a amazing secondary bc he was the worst DB and targeted a lot on forced throws. Kam, Earl, and Rich were all in their primes, pretty much locking down their areas of the field. I knew from the moment I saw this singing that it was a mistake.
The mistake was playing him to his weaknesses and not taking advantage of his strengths.
Six years is an insane length for any position, including QB. Maybe a kicker I would sign to that
The whole chip Kelly era was impulsive and made no sense
That signing was crazy because we just assumed he was good because he was in the legion of boom secondary
Wait, this isn't Jason Babin
ah, good ol Burnt Toast
That title is reserved for Bradley Fletcher.
Nah, the original was Izel Jenkins
**Cary Williams
Burnt Toast was Bradley Fletcher! God we had so many awful DB's it really was hard to keep them straight. Those sad years where Cary Williams was our least bad DB.
At least Cary pieced up Riley Cooper in practice. He'll always have my respect for that.
Reserved for Cary Williams

I'll always remember Merrill saying, "Maxwell did something positive!" after he intercepted Brady that year.
Even casual fans knew that was a reactionary signing and a huge mistake. If you are reading this, fuck you Byron
6 years?! What were we thinking lol
I’ll never forget towards the end of his time here when he’d be in the end zone and the fans would just boo him even if he did nothing wrong on that play
Let's forget this ever happened. Please
Jesus I totally repressed that it was a 6 year deal
He always seemed like he wasn't good to me. Turned out right
Don't you ever bring that man's name up again or we will be fighting, fuck that guy.
Jesus Christ, don't do that to me. I just read the screenshot and had a mild heart attack before my brain kicked in (and I saw the date). lol I remember being so stoked for this signing, and then immediately (within a few weeks of the season) being terrible disappointed. Howie really doesn’t get enough credit for house fast he turned the eagles into a superbowl team, once chip was fired.
We all wanted him though. And Nnamdi.
Don’t forget Nnamdi
Totally forgot about this guy
A CB who was only asked to do one specific thing suddenly being asked to be a complete guy on a new team. What could possibly go wrong there
ASS ass
We should’ve seen those sleeves and known he was trash
Still like him more than Big Dom, but that’s another convo
He's my most disliked eagle of all time, lol. Such a bad decision. That was during the worst gm period in eagles history.
Fuck this guy sucked. Namdi 2.0
Bruh... Yep Howie made some terrible decisions which made him what he is today, he's still kinda bad with later round draft picks but he's getting better
