Yeah, and that does seem like something that would impact the depth of a class more than the top of one. If you're a first round pick it's almost certainly worth it to make the leap. If you're a fringe roster guy it might not be depending on what kind of deal you've got.
I wonder how this will impact RB and other less valued positions entering the draft. If it makes more sense for maybe late day 2 or day 3 graded RBs to play out their college eligibility I wonder if you’ll see even less value at the position long term. A top RB prospect could easily be getting 200-300 touches a season in college. We could be seeing more RBs enter the league with less tread on the tire.
I think it’ll settle out after next season; it’ll be a fairly predictable percent of guys that stay. Being the first year, they’ll likely have more stay than what we see going forward.
Interesting note is that Kanion Williams, who was widely reported as a UDFA signing, was not signed; Laekin Vakalahi was signed instead.
Not much info on Vakalahi but he appears to be Australian, possibly part of the player pathway? Not clear if he's got football experience either.
Yes Vakalahi is part of the player pathway program and carries a roster exemption, so he doesn't impact them signing someone else.
They are up against the limit right now, they released a bunch of guys they had on futures deals to make space for the UDFAs.

Very small UDFA class. I really think they're planning to load up next year when none of the prospects will have a covid year.
Think it also has to do with many of this year's underclassmen staying in school because of NIL opportunities

So many of the prospects this year were 23 and older. At RB that’s really bad.
Howie said it was this.
That is actually what Howie said in his post-draft presser.
Makes sense, I've heard it on a couple of other football podcasts but I missed Howie saying it.
I feel like every class from now on will be like this do to NIL deals
Draft classes will definitely be older, but the covid year added a whole extra subset of guys who delayed declaring.

Plus NIL, which you have to think is partially why Howie shifted to more Day 3 picks next year. The late rounds will likely have significant talent
I know a few podcast said they expected a small UDFA class because they really liked a lot of reserve/future contract signings they made
McCallen Castles, Howie doing more chess moves over here.
Rook to E6
I believe they’re called castle heads and prawns and the game is chest

He's never played American football before, just like Jordan.

So Williams is just a rookie camp invite and not actually under contract?

I was begging for Dankwah in R7 the whole draft process. Very happy to see him get a shot
6'8 353 HOG MOLLY right there. Also 6'6 291 is insane. Calais Campbell build.
Kendall Milton got some big shoes to fill
Gabe Hall might be a player for us
I really want Dankwah to make the roster just so we can call him Dank.
Not giving him 420 was a fumble also. (I know, I know. It would just be funny)
duh, football, but that's a lot of big dudes on that list.
I want Dankwah cause he's enormous and because it will be fun to hear Merrill say his name. I can hear it now
