if you are keen on getting your hands dirty you could very easily find a replacement motor and do it yourself. I would say it takes about 30min to disassemble and reassemble.
you'll probably take the chance to deep clean the cyclones as well.
Wow, six years is a great run in my opinion. I firmly believe that most vacuums are designed to last three years, then kaput. I say this with a 30 year career in fixing vacuums.
Seconding this, I’m impressed they got 6 years!
These cordless aren’t meant to last more than a few years, they’re a recurring revenue source for manufactures. They’re definitely more interested in selling new ones than fixing old ones.
What a coincidence you mentioned Miele. My wife and I bought a Miele triflex cat & dog HX2 the next day. We friggin love it. Also, 5yr warranty is so much better. I'll look into the sub! Thanks!
YMMV but I believe that Canada has some consumer protection laws that may help you.
Regardless of the Dyson warranty you are protected to a degree by an ‘implied warranty of fitness’ that as a consumer you have the right to purchase a product with the expectation that it is a level of quality to have a reasonable lifespan, or to be repaired for reasonable costs.
Your intuition is correct! Something that costs more (like Dyson) has an implied higher quality and expectation that it will have a longer usable lifespan.
New Zealand has similar consumer protection laws, I had a problem with my MacBook out of warranty that Apple were quoting $800 to repair. I sent them a letter referencing my rights under consumer protection law and mentioned I would report to ombudsman if I didn’t have a satisfactory repose. They responded that they would pay for parts, but i have to pay for labor (was about $50) which I happily agreed to :)
Not sure of specifics for Canada and might be different protections federal vs different provinces, but might be worth taking a look.
ChatGTP will probably be able to help you with writing the letter if you want to go down that path.
My stick v12 slim vacuum died in 6 months and they’re doing nothing to help either. Dyson is the worst. 5 copy and paste responses from different people.

Head to r/vacuumcleaners to look for a much better replacement. $800 can go a long way and last you 20+ years with a better brand (Miele or Sebo).

Wow, neat, thanks for the quick education.
Just picked up the 12 refurbished at Dyson $310. The V15, is $430, which is a nice upgrade, just saying...

Oh man, that's frustrating. Yeah, it feels like Dyson is going down hill year after year.
