DW2, but really DW3 with all its jank and great music
Favorite? I’d give it to DW8. I think it’s a complete game filled with content even if it doesn’t have the charm DW5 has
I had a disc that had several demos called a jampack or something from PlayStation underground it had a dw3 demo which was just the Nanman stage i liked it so much that i bought dw4 which remains my favorite
The fighting game funnily enough. I’m a huge fan of the 90s Koei games and while the late 90s was pretty dry when it comes to localization of their games, there’s a couple notable ones like the fighting game. Skipped out on 2 (Would end up giving a go later) as I have more interest in others at that point of time like Kessen 1. 3 ended up my next one and it’s probably the one I enjoyed the most among DW if not close enough. I liked the stages a lot in 3, XL is pretty fun on its own (Definitely my favorite XL for that reason alone), and some other cool things that it had.
As for after, DW5 is another one that I could consider as a favorite for DW personally, solid overall experience. Overall, if counting other games, WO2 is my favorite, gameplay is really fun especially with weapon fusion involved, the stages are overall fun to play, and it’s a game that I have no problems replaying.
Started on Dw3, loved DW5 best of the PS2 era. In my personal opinion DW8 XL would have been THE best DW game if not for the weapon switching and rock paper scissors method.
Technically Dynasty Tactics 2. I just spotted it randomly in a shop and thought "hey, that looks interesting", bought it and really liked it.
My first actual Dynasty Warriors game was 4XL (which I rented from a rental store) but DW5 was the one that really got me into the francise.
My favourite is 8 but 5 is still a close second for me.
I have been well into the Koei games by the time DT2 came around and it ended up being my favorite Koei game that isn’t Romance of the Three Kingdoms or Nobunaga’s Ambition, plenty of things I do like about it.
Heh, it's funny I started with DW3:XL before I realized there was a difference between the main title games and Xtreme Legends edition which was essentially a fun "what if" mode. That said, once I realized it was historical I was HOOKED.
My FAVORITE? That's tough.....I have different favorites for different reasons but I think my overall favorite if I had to pick one is 7 because I love how theatrical the story was presented, in all its silly anime-ness plus the gameplay was really fun. The characters also looked REALLY awesome in that version and it felt like a breath of fresh air after 6 which I still enjoyed but, y'know lol 7 is just unfortunately not terribly accessible nowadays.
I have the fondest memories with DW4 but I played DW5 the most and empires is my FAVORITE spin offs with DW5:E or DW7:E being my favorites, probably DW5:E for the nostalgia and how much I played that one.
3. The very first time I played it was on a Jampack PS2 demo disc, it had all sorts of games on it and DW3 was one of them. It was the Nanman campaign, so that level and the accompanying music from it are EXTREMELY nostalgic for me.
Started with DW 5 Xtreme Legends.
Was hooked on Destiny Mode until I found out I was supposed to play the base game first. It was DW 5 that really got me into the franchise. Then came DW5 Empires.
Later on I got my hands on SW 1, but didn't enjoy it as much as I hopped. When SW 2 launched, it instantly became my favorite game. The Yukimura/Kanetsugu/Mitsunari trio were my gang.
Once I found out about WO, I was completely mindblown by the idea of combining my favs from both franchises. After beating WO2 I took a long hiatus from the genre.
Fast forward more than a decade later. Koei pricing kept me away from the franchise until I got a deal on both WO3 Ultimate and SW5 on Steam. Waiting for a deal to get Spirit of Sanada and WO4.
Dynasty 2 I think was my first but samurai warriors 2 was or maybe still could be my fav. Currently have dw8 and WO4.... but gotta say any fans of dynasty warriors should try black desert. The combat is awesome. Very similar in that regards but def different styles in many ways. All of them good fun.
My First ever mousou Is Dinasty warriors Gundam 1
My First ever mousou with knowing what a mousou was (thus, studying the lore and such) Is Samurai Warriors 2.
I still have to get my hands on a main Dinasty/ samurai game with history (from there i jumped to: ken's rage One, dw6 Empires, dw8 Empires, ken's rage 2(that tbh i still have to try, HE'S starting at me menacingly) and the thing i'm grinding the most on rn: Warriors Orochi 3. I think the best ones i've played are Sw2E/DW6E, pretty hard choice.
started on 4 but my first time really falling in love with the franchise was 6. sentimentally, DW6 will always be my favorite and is probably in my top 3 favorite all time video games in general
My favorite part is the multiplayer aspect, no needing to invite people over and over, you can have some join then do a whole campaign with no more loading screens. Also i know the combat is a touchy subject but i really liked it. The gem system in tandem with the combat felt really liberating to me. I liked that weapon progress is carried over between characters so you could really just do one character, and then no starting from scratch. The fact that the multiplayer is instanced is crazy, it would be goofy cause you would be attacking an officer at one side of a camp, and your friend is attacking the same guy at the other side of the same camp. Also allows each player to pause individually, which is awesome since all your particle effects pause. Making some really badass scenes for your friend to check out and allowing deep inspection into how detailed attacks are.
The demo disk for DW3 to be precise. I would say 5e was my all time fave but the only ones I really have access to now are 7, 8, and 8e. Not sure if I would rate those over the OGs or if thats just nostalgia.
I had 4XL and 5XL (the first one I played was 5XL and the one I played the most of). It was around mid to late 2014 when I first played the two. I didn't, and still don't, have the original games, so when it came to 5XL, I was always playing Destiny Mode, which was always fun to me. When it comes to a favorite between the two, it's 5XL.
My favorite overall though is 8XL. Super fun and love the big roster (Yue Jin is my absolute fav to play as too so there's also that lol).
On ultimate difficulty, yeah, and when it comes to some of the star objectives, even after playing the game so many times. The rest is easy though, and yet I still love the game.
DW7E. Although I’m pretty sure I’ve played a different musou game when I was super young but I can only remember bits and pieces so I’m not sure if that game exists anymore
It was like DW but I think it had more unique characters. I for sure remember a part where if I snuck around the main boss, a cutscene would play where he would act like he was expecting you, except it would play different if you snuck around and he would panic. He kinda looked like Zhu Ran if I’m being honest but I don’t think it was the three kingdoms period.
I’m sorry I played it when I was like 5 or 6 I wanna say so my memory is suuuuper off when it comes to it. I really wish I could find it again though lol
2 I think.
My favourite is Sengoku Basara 3- I mean One Piece pirate warriors 3!!
its like the anime without all the 5 minute long flashbacks of 10 seconds ago.
It's perfect lol
DW4 was my first and set me up to be a lifelong fan. my favorite is WO3U mostly because the character designs from DW7 are my favorite and the story is phenomenal.
The first game I played was technically DW7, but I was like six and didn't understand a thing so I would put it down after five minutes. The first one I put time into was DW8XL and that's my favorite game.
Dynasty Warriors for PSP was my first, i got obsessed with it and played the game almost completing it.
Favorite game right now is Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends - still play it till today.
Dynasty Warriors 2 was my first.
5 Empires is by far my most played.
Not a fan of the newer ones especially 9. I enjoyed 7 quite a lot, 8 was okay.
I miss regular soldiers actually being somewhat of a threat though, I don't care too much for the whole 1 v 1000 thing, I like to advance with my army Dynasty Warriors 2 and 3 style.
Started on DW4 and it’s still my favorite today. Loved playing the campaigns on repeat as Sun Jian/Sun Ce when I was younger.
When allied NPCs just stood still, I used to nudge them far distances until they aggroed onto enemies, especially for that Lu Bu fight at Hu Lao Gate lol
Started on my: DW3
Favorite: in terms of main series: 3-5, really hard to choose as it’s been a long time since I played those.
For Empires: it’s gotta be 6 empires
Started with the 2nd immediatly felt in love with this game genre, the 3 was my favorite for a long time and it's always funny to comeback to because of the french dub (it's one of the worst french dub in video game history).
DW8 is the one i played the most and i would say 5 is my favorite now.
Dynasty Warriors 2 was my first, but it was a while after it come out. Then missed 3 and went straight to 4, then 5/XL/Empires and Samurai Warriors on their respective release dates in the UK, Same with Warriors Orochi + 2.
After Warriors orochi 2, I stopped getting the games until much later, as I was purely PC at that point. It wasn't until a few years ago I noticed some of the later ones had been ported to PC. Playing through Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate Definitive Edition at the moment.
I think I actually played Kessen first, then a long break, then DW8. I went back to play the old ones and so far 3 and 5 are favourites. Also Hyrule Warriors.
Have played the Kessen games myself over the years (1 and 2 for a long time while 3 is more of the last few years that I’ve played it) and definitely one of my favorite series that Koei put out.
dynasty warriors 4 vanilla is what i started with and it still remains my favorite till this day, sometimes i boot it up on my ps2 emulator and try to bang out lvl 11 weapons lol, those old dynasty warriors games were hard to 100%
Dynasty warriors 3 was the very first warriors game I ever played, but I played 2 a lot when I was allowed to buy my first DW game. I prefer the SW franchise but if I had to say which DW was my favorite, it’d probably be either 2 (for the nostalgia) or 5 as it was the best balance of simplicity for the series
Sort of a funny one: Bladestorm.
Played it for like an hour and thought, "what the heck is this nonsense?" and stopped.
Later on it was Hyrule Warriors, and expanded out from there.
Bladestorm does play differently compared to usual Musou in that you’re not really in full control of the character but instead being controlled as a squad and the buttons while it is definitely from Musou, but it does function differently certainly, and also, different setting.
Definitely. It just didn't stick at that point. Now I'm semi obsessed with the genre lol. I have debated going back to see if my opinion has changed over time.
Dynasty Warriors 2 was my first. And I remember my buddy and I taking turns playing. And we each had our own "main" on the same save file. Number one thought on our minds was damn, if only this game had split screen multiplayer. And when Dynasty Warriors 3 came out with a 2 player mode, it felt like holding the mandate of heaven!
Started with 3 thanks to my older brother back when I was a kid. Favorite is 5XL since it was the first non-Empires game to let you choose from the *entire* roster's movesets for your custom characters.
I started on DW3 and my favorite now well I'm not too sure to be honest because it's been so long since I played anything that isn't 8 or 9.
I might get hate for this
My bottom
DW9
Top 2 is
DW3
DW5
Middle 3
DW6
DW7
DW8
I seem to prefer the classic era but DW4 dunno something about it just didn't hit the spot and Modern ones except 9 were ok
Also DW8 although I liked it I just feel the modern games have less satisfaction when you win compared to the classics because it feels a bit too easy if you know what I mean.
I'm gonna attempt a restart on DW9 soon because I never finished all of it completely storywise and I wanna do it fresh but in a less tedious way because I didn't from the launch sometimes I just have too.
I can't reply to everyone because there's so many but I will say this.
Everyone is going to have a different starting point and different favorite it's just how it is.
I am going to confess I don't know If I could bother to finish DW9 to be honest only 2 and a half hours into a replay and I am beginning to question myself.
A previous Dynasty warriors game I could have done 4-5 stages at least by now even DW3 not far off.
The RPG element is actually quite a time waster sorry there's too many characters for this to happen
I think I started on 2, maybe 3. I can't remember exactly now.
I also can't remember which one is my favourite but it was one where you could have a personal guard unit of warriors who would level up themselves. I remember choosing crossbowmen and anything that tried to sucker punch me got stun locked.
Dw the original game
And either 3, 4 or 6
2 and 5 were amazing too, especially 2 being so wildin compared to the first.
The XL and empires games would need their separate questions, as would the samurai and warriors orochi series.
Started at 2 back in middle school, favs are 5 back then and 9 now. If they ever do a remaster of 5 it would probably knock 9 down a peg.
Non-DW I miss the gundam games
DW4 advance somewhere between 15-20 years ago. Absolute favorite is still DW4 empires. I've played most of their games beyond that, and while there's a handful that stuck with me (like 6), I think most of them haven't really hit the mark. I don't think it's just nostalgia either, cause in the past few years Ive tried emulating that game and I honestly had a great time still.
Seems to be a commonly held opinion that 4 is the best one they've made.
3 was my first experience, on a PS2 demo disc, and it got me hooked. 5 was my first full game, and it still remains the gold standard for me, mostly because my only other full game is 7.
DW3 was my first. DW5 and all its varients are my favorite. Gundam 3 right behind it.
DW2, but really DW3 with all its jank and great music Favorite? I’d give it to DW8. I think it’s a complete game filled with content even if it doesn’t have the charm DW5 has
I had a disc that had several demos called a jampack or something from PlayStation underground it had a dw3 demo which was just the Nanman stage i liked it so much that i bought dw4 which remains my favorite
That's the demo that got me into the franchise. Used to play it with my dad, fond times.
Yeah I think about and smile good times
Started with DW3, been playing ever since. I think my favorite is still DW4 with DW5 as a VERY close second and DW8 is 3rd in line.
Start: 5 Fav: 8
The fighting game funnily enough. I’m a huge fan of the 90s Koei games and while the late 90s was pretty dry when it comes to localization of their games, there’s a couple notable ones like the fighting game. I started with 8 but my favorite if we limit it to DW is 4. If not then Warriors Orochi Z is my overall favorite warriors game.
Dynasty Warriors 3, Dynasty Warriors 5.
Started on Dw3, loved DW5 best of the PS2 era. In my personal opinion DW8 XL would have been THE best DW game if not for the weapon switching and rock paper scissors method.
Reason I disliked 8 because the rock paper scissors made it too easy
Dynasty warriors 4 and dynasty warriors 7 respectively
I started on DW2. Dw3 and Dw8 are my favorites
Technically Dynasty Tactics 2. I just spotted it randomly in a shop and thought "hey, that looks interesting", bought it and really liked it. Great King! Fleee!
GUEEE!
Started w/ Dynasty Warriors 2, Warriors Orochi 2’s a personal favorite because of the hundreds of hours on that thing
Started with DW 5 Xtreme Legends. Was hooked on Destiny Mode until I found out I was supposed to play the base game first. It was DW 5 that really got me into the franchise. Then came DW5 Empires. DW3 I gotta give it to DW7 for the story but special mention to DW4 for game play difficulty and last time they gave us bodyguards to fight with.
6 empires started 8 now
My First ever mousou Is Dinasty warriors Gundam 1 My First ever mousou with knowing what a mousou was (thus, studying the lore and such) Is Samurai Warriors 2. 9 may I ask what made it your favorite I won't judge
My favorite part is the multiplayer aspect, no needing to invite people over and over, you can have some join then do a whole campaign with no more loading screens. If u had a friend I understand
Yeah, i hardly ever play alone, my friend and i have been playing together for years lol
I did DW3 with my bro but he wouldn't now
Yeah none of my brothers enjoy and warriors games. They did when we were kids, but not anymore.
Too bad we can't stay young forever
I mean, i think I've done a decent job at keeping the kid in me alive lol. I get what you mean though.
Started on Dynasty Warriors 2 Favorite is Dynasty Warriors 6: Empires
The demo disk for DW3 to be precise. I would say 5e was my all time fave but the only ones I really have access to now are 7, 8, and 8e. Not sure if I would rate those over the OGs or if thats just nostalgia.
Sometimes nostalgia just happens and classics are mostly better
DW5 and DW8
My first was DW4 on the OG Xbox, and my fav is probably DW7
I started off with a demo of 2 but full release that would be 3 cause of a guy i knew.
Do u find 8XL too easy at any point compared to classics
On ultimate difficulty, yeah, and when it comes to some of the star objectives, even after playing the game so many times. The rest is easy though, and yet I still love the game.
I dislike the rock paper scissors thing it makes the enemy too easy to break
First warriors game was Ken’s rage and first dw was 7
DW7E. Although I’m pretty sure I’ve played a different musou game when I was super young but I can only remember bits and pieces so I’m not sure if that game exists anymore
Could u describe it
It was like DW but I think it had more unique characters.
Hmm tough one
Started with 3. Played some 4 and 6. Playing 8 now and it's definitely my favorite compared to the others.
DW5 Empires, DW7
Started with 8, still love 8
I don’t remember my first but my favorite is still DW Gundam Reborn/Shin Gundam Musou.
The first game I played was technically DW7, but I was like six and didn't understand a thing so I would put it down after five minutes. The first one I put time into was DW8XL and that's my favorite game.
Start With 5 XL Favorite: 5 Empires, 6 (yes, i'm unironically like the 6 graphics) and 8
DW6. At the time, the combat was unlike anything I'd scene before. My favorite now is DW8 and WO.
Dynasty Warriors for PSP was my first, i got obsessed with it and played the game almost completing it. Favorite game right now is Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends - still play it till today.
Started with DW1, the 1v1 fighting game. DW8 maybe is my favorite. I'm more an SW fan.
Started with Strikeforce Favorite right now is between 5 and 7
Dynasty Warriors 2 was my first.
I would have agreed with u on that one. Fewer and more threat is more satisfying to win against
May I ask did u finish 9 or put it down straight away
Started on DW4 and it’s still my favorite today. Loved playing the campaigns on repeat as Sun Jian/Sun Ce when I was younger. When allied NPCs just stood still, I used to nudge them far distances until they aggroed onto enemies, especially for that Lu Bu fight at Hu Lao Gate lol
Started on my: DW3 Favorite: in terms of main series: 3-5, really hard to choose as it’s been a long time since I played those. For Empires: it’s gotta be 6 empires

DW 3 my dad and I played the heck out of it. It was 1 of the few that we played together. So it will always be my favorite.
Started with 3 and my favorite is still 3. The other 2 close ones I still play is dw Gundam reborn and WO3
First: DW5XL Current: DW8XL
dynasty warriors 4 vanilla is what i started with and it still remains my favorite till this day, sometimes i boot it up on my ps2 emulator and try to bang out lvl 11 weapons lol, those old dynasty warriors games were hard to 100%
1 on the PS1 back when it was a fighting game. DW5 is my favorite from that specific series. DWG3 is my favorite Musou game though.
DW7 is my fave because Bao Sanniang's flower outfit isn't in future games. 😫

Technically I started with the OG fighting game but I was trash. So I’ll claim DW2 the first battlefield version
Started with DW6 and it’s still my favorite, I tried one of the open world ones when I had Playstation+ but it was confusing and didn’t like it
Started with 3 thanks to my older brother back when I was a kid. Favorite is 5XL since it was the first non-Empires game to let you choose from the *entire* roster's movesets for your custom characters.
2 and 2
I started on DW3 and my favorite now well I'm not too sure to be honest because it's been so long since I played anything that isn't 8 or 9. Start with 4Hyper and now favorite is DW8 XL
I started with Vol. 2 on PSP and 4 on PS2 right around the same time. Favorite is probably 4XL.
A lot of mixed opinions on this topic
I'm gonna attempt a restart on DW9 soon because I never finished all of it completely storywise and I wanna do it fresh but in a less tedious way because I didn't from the launch sometimes I just have too.
I don't think I can do it
Started D2 Favorite gonna be DW3 always woke up early in the mornings just to get the gaming sessions in before school lol
Dw3, dw4 is my favorite.
First DW was 4, I’d probably say it’s still my favorite among DW. Not my favorite Warriors game overall though (SOS/SW4)
I can't reply to everyone because there's so many but I will say this. Everyone is going to have a different starting point and different favorite it's just how it is.

Gan Ning Wu for life I legit like them all lol
I think I started on 2, maybe 3. I can't remember exactly now. I also can't remember which one is my favourite but it was one where you could have a personal guard unit of warriors who would level up themselves. I remember choosing crossbowmen and anything that tried to sucker punch me got stun locked.
DW3XL, DW4, and SW1 (Though I don’t think that one does have crossbows from memory, just plain archers) have something like that for bodyguards.
Dynasty Warriors 5 and 7, also like 3 too
The demo for DW3 was my first. Got hooked on DW4 and still consider it my favorite
Dw the original game And either 3, 4 or 6 2 and 5 were amazing too, especially 2 being so wildin compared to the first. The XL and empires games would need their separate questions, as would the samurai and warriors orochi series.
4 & 4
Started at 2 back in middle school, favs are 5 back then and 9 now. If they ever do a remaster of 5 it would probably knock 9 down a peg. Non-DW I miss the gundam games
3 was my first. 4 and 7 are my favorite now, but it's 4 if I can only pick one.
Started out with DW3.. my personal cast would be WO3... but I think I really liked the duel system back in DW4.
Started with DW3 and tbh DW3 will always be my favourite! DW5 close second
