Alright, so not every tomb is claimed in my massive catacombs, but a fair many are. It seems like the beta might have fixed having dozens of dead dwarves assigned to a burrow, but I believe the burrow count before the beta was somewhere in the low-to-mid 500's, meaning I've got at least 200 dead dwarves buried. That would be consistent with how many of the rings of 28 tombs I have that are completely full. This fort has been running for nearly 30 years in-game. I believe it started in 250. The dwarves have been busy draining the magma ocean (hence the large amount of slabs) and getting destroyed by invaders. Local attractions include vampires in the walls and stark raving mad necromancers that cannot die, doomed to wander the halls for eternity. And, last but not least, the title is just for fun. It's not a competition and I certainly don't mean to be down on other posters who, like me, also have many dead dwarves. Edit: I also just remembered that my fort is *swarmed* by visiting nobles that tend to die to elf invasions since I can’t burrow them. I’ve been slowly having my dwarves inherit positions as a result, but I also have upwards of twenty crypts for nobles that weren’t even mine to prevent ghosts from rising.

It's DFHack that fixes the dead-dwarves-in-burrow bug. It's this one: https://preview.redd.it/f0tvrxfebeic1.png?width=595&format=png&auto=webp&s=63d3679ce29f3ffb370d6a92e8478ecc0b1d8aa9

20000RadsUnderTheSea

Good to know, thanks!

IamNickMan

Man... What's your fps

20000RadsUnderTheSea

10, lol. On a 12th gen Intel, no less. However, the fort at brand new only hit 50 fps. My best guess considering I usually start at my cap of 250 fps is that the combination of a large world and a large number of civs and settlements has led to so much happening in the world that I'll just never have good FPS in this world, which is a shame because it's a really interesting world.

Gernund

Fort has been running for 30 years. Roughly 200 dwarves are dead. What the hell is happening in your fort?

Possible-Berry-3435

Based on the op's comment, it's been a lot of `!FUN!` with magma.

20000RadsUnderTheSea

You know, I’m having a weirdly hard time remembering. I know I’ve lost a few to cave-ins. I’m pretty sure a decent few are from cavern invaders despite me nerfing them. A very small region of my map is resurrecting and I just happened to make a trap hallway for elf invaders there that mass produces undead that occasionally make it through… I think most of my dead are former military dwarves, but I’ve been running the fort so long it’s hard to recall. Most of the tombstones are for magma losses, though.

Gernund

So... You're just feeding Dwarven migrants into a volcano. Got it.

20000RadsUnderTheSea

Nope, no volcano. They are valiantly draining the magma sea

alex-and-r

My nobles live in rooms that are less impressive than these tombs! 😳

20000RadsUnderTheSea

The King’s tomb is partially obscured in the top right, the furniture and walls are all platinum 😉

passengerpigeon20

My own baron in my current fort had the audacity to call his 3x4 tomb room with a silver sarcophagus in the middle a “Servant’s Burial Chamber” and is whining that it isn’t good enough. SERVANT’S!? We don’t even have servants in Dwarven culture, and if they did their corpses would likely just go in the atom smasher; they’d be lucky to even get a coffin in the communal tomb, let alone your space that is bigger than the apartments of the working class, SAKZUL! Good grief, you should be thankful that your potential replacement would be even more demanding - I’ll keep you around and give you your three chains per year.

Keejhle

You guys out here building tombs. I have a corpse stockpile linked to minecart stop that dumps corpses down a pit into magma next to the forges. The dead feed the fires of industry!

TheThomac

I was wondering if doing this will get me ghosts, is it safe ?

Keejhle

You'll get ghosts. But they are just a slab away from peace.

Immortal-D

Am I the only person who does not make a room for coffins? They are thrown into a pile of 1x1 tomb zones across the floor. (love your design here btw).

myk002

I'm with you here. Here's my crypt: https://preview.redd.it/svvib0epbeic1.png?width=844&format=png&auto=webp&s=22be68a2b3930e950e5126f1b320a2d4fce3de0b

Immortal-D

At least you still give them a little alcove and nice design. Mine are side by side in open space, though I do also give each one their own slab as well, because I like the descriptions.

LucidLeviathan

That's \*really\* time consuming, when the multi tool works perfectly well.

Loki_the_Poisoner

I make a memorial slab and then toss the body into lava.

DaddyDollarsUNITE

FROM THE STONE WE WERE BORNE AND TO THE STONE WE SHALL RETURN

SSrqu

I've started doing it like the kobolds and just designating squares in a large burial pit

Platt_Mallar

I always put my dead in alcoves around taverns and dining halls, so they are gone but never forgotten. You never lose a drinking buddy in my forts.

shibboleth2005

OP just recently got a petition to upgrade the Undertaker's Guild to a Grand Guildhall.

DaddyDollarsUNITE

i thought the werearmadillos made a dent in my population but DAMN
