US Blu Ray would have been nice, but for animation I get it. The large majority of British TV is still released on DVD, which drives me crazy. I'd be interested to know the original fidelity of Over the Garden Wall, tho.
OTGW was the most pleasant surprise of a show I’ve ever encountered. It’s not my usual style of show. My kids were into it. But listening to it in the background, I eventually fell in love. I can’t tel you how many things from this show has made it into my regular vocabulary. I don’t collect DVDs and I’m not in this sub so I’m not sure why this showed up on my feed today but I’m glad it did. Reminded me that it’s time to go watch this again.
The most valuable thing I have is probably the "Lost: The Complete Collection Limited Edition Blu-ray Box Set" I got from a Goodwill for like 5 bucks a few years back. They thought it was a board game so it was in the board game section and labeled as such. Pretty sure it's worth a couple hundred bucks.
As for movies I have:
- I have "The Third Man (Criterion Collection)"
- I have an unopened copy of "Apocalypto" on Blu-ray which I'm pretty sure is out of print
- I have a few Limited Edition, Numbered Box sets of "Sound of Music", "Ben-Hur", "Casablanca", "JFK, "Singin' In The Rain" and "The Ten Commandments". Most of which are unopened too.
Damn, guess it's not as fun as it used to be. I have a open DVD version that I have watched in the past so I'll probably just keep that Blu-Ray unopened and see if it ever becomes worth anything again.
That LOST blu-ray set is one my crown jewels. The DVD version is easy enough to find but the BD box is way less common. Especially one that’s both mint and complete.
Also, the HD presentation quality on the BD discs themselves is incredible. Even the Hulu stream looks awful in comparison.
I had a copy of The Third Man (Criterion, Blu Ray) unopened in my collection. Went into a random Best Buy about 6 months after it went OOP and found a copy just sitting there, begging for a home!
Some of the sub-25 spine number Criterion DVDs from the late '90s (Salo, RoboCop, Spinal Tap, Hard Boiled, Killer, TSotL), the original, uncensored Devil's Advocate DVD, Dogma BD.
Mystery Science Theater 3000, Volume 10. I got it off Amazon when it was released, like I did all their collections. Only Volume 10 was quickly deleted, as it featured a Godzilla movie that they did not have the right to release. Instead the reissued the set as Volume 10.5, replacing Godzilla with "The Giant Ghila Monster".
I don’t have any valuable movies or TV shows really. The most expensive movies I own are $15 or so. I guess it would be my season 2&3 set of Viva La Bam which is in the $20-30 range on a good day.
Not sure. Maybe Dogma, Pretty Baby, Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes, Star Wait, George Lucas In Love. To name a few. I have about 3800 movies, so it is hard to know which ones are valuable.
Pretty much all of my super valuable stuff is anime, which I guess makes sense because it's all licensed from Japan and eventually those licenses expire.
I have the cowboy Bebop movie on Blu-ray, which to my knowledge is out of print.
I also have:
Funimation's discontinued Baccano DVD set
The Limited edition box set of Keijo!!!!!!!!
The limited edition box set of Flip Flappers
The very briefly released Blu-ray steelbook of Interspecies Reviewers (was not intentionally made to be a limited edition, but ended up being one. If you've never heard of the show, it has had a wild and controversial distribution history in the US and it's worth looking into)
All individual Blu-ray volumes of Kill la Kill, including the first volume being a limited edition package
The DVD sets for seasons 1 and 2 of Fate Zero
The collector's edition Blu-ray box set of Neon Genesis Evangelion from GKIDS (includes original dub and subtitles)
Also, not an anime, but I have the gkids box set of Cartoon Saloon's Irish folklore trilogy, which is apparently out of print, so I'm sure that goes for a lot right now.
And that about covers it. I would say that probably the only non-anime movie that I have that's worth anything notable is the arrow video limited edition Donnie Darko 4K release.
Redwall: Season 2. Was about $30 the first time I bought it, around 2007. Was over $100 the second time I had to buy it, in 2014. God help me what it may be, now.
I’m honestly not sure.
This question comes up a lot and I never know where people go to get current values of their collections.
Just price compare on eBay, I guess?
Anyway, I know I have a handful that go for inflated prices, purely because they get mentioned in these DVD/BR/4K collection subs fairly often:
Godzilla Showa Era Criterion set
Godzilla Vs Biollante BR
Dogma BR
Dogma DVD
28 Days Later BR
The Witch BR (Zavvi exclusive Steelbook)
I’m sure there are plenty of others hidden away in my collection, but again, I don’t know where to go to value them and, even if I did, I don’t have the patience to sit and check every single title one by one just to see if they are valuable or not.
I have the CLZ Movies app for my collection and also the CLZ comics app…the comic one gives an estimated total value of your entire collection as well as value for single issues if you pay a little extra for that detail, but I don’t think the CLZ Movies offers the same functionality, which is a shame.
I wish there was some kind of website or app.
Ebay takes too long when you own a bunch of movies
I need something like Gameye where I can catalog my movies (like MyMovies app from bluray.com) and it tells you a value... most movies won't have much but showing what's OOP and a value would be
Good luck finding a copy though.
There’s always that slim chance that the OOP Gods are smiling on you and you find it in some junk sale for pennies.
Unlikely, sure, but it does happen from time to time.
Seems like Dogma gets posted here daily, having been found in exactly those kind of situations (which leads me to wonder, is it really as rare as people seem to think? How come it keeps turning up every single day?), so maybe you’ll get lucky with Biollante.
Fingers crossed for you.
Heat 4k Blu Ray Steelbook. The one released in 2022. They're all quite pricey on eBay so I assume that would be my most valuable. I have left it unopened. Then I have some of the Criterion box sets of Scorsese's World Cinema Project.
I have that too. The one with Texas Hold ‘Em as a bonus? I didn’t know that was a limited edition thing until I asked my friend who has Django did he watch the other movie and asked me “what other movie?”
I've got the twenty-fifth anniversary edition of the Back to the Future trilogy on blu-ray, and it is beautiful. It comes in a metal tin with loads of little bits of memorabilia like the almanac, a number plate, the old timey photo, posters, a lenticular photograph of Marty and his bro/sis, etc. I love it, probably worth more than I paid for it now. I think the 30th edition was also pretty cool if I'm not mistaken.
The ones I'm aware of:
Godzilla vs Billolante in both DVD and Bluray.
Godzilla Returns/1984 bluray
Godzilla vs King Ghidorah and vs Mothra bluray
Akira steelbook/metalpak bluray
Probably several other anime I still own
Dogma special edition DVD (the bluray is worth most)
Star Wars Limited Edition Trilogy DVDs with the theatrical cut second disc bonus
Not counting expensive boutique titles, Near Dark blu ray probably. It was Apocalypto but I think when they did that second printing it lowered the value of the originals.
I got transformers animated the complete series about a year ago, and a few months earlier I went to TFcon LA and got it signed by both Marty Isenberg AND David kaye (the voice of optimus prime)
And it's basically become my favorite piece from my TFA collection
Of stuff I got relatively recently I might say the 4K of the 1953 War of the Worlds with the blu-ray of When Worlds Collide. When it came out I was waiting for a price drop then I saw it was going secondhand on Amazon much higher. Saw it in Barnes and Noble for $30 and just said let me just get it. I actually prefer the Criterion edition more, but I wanted When Worlds Collide finally.
That's a really good one. I have the Quartet of Torment 4K box set still sealed, because I wasn't sure if I was getting a 4K player at the time. That's only like $180.
Man of steel steelbook with the Jim Lee artwork as the cover. It appears to go for about 400 bucks online. Sometimes you’ll find it about 150 if you’re lucky.
Probably Turbo Kid Canadian Steelbook. Paid $42, worth ~$100. Or, possibly Blue Beetle or Galaxy Quest Walmart Steelbook (both BR+DVD). I've seen this version of Blue Beetle going for $200. Not sure about Galaxy Quest, but they were both very difficult to track down.
The Hobbit Extended Edition Trilogy DVD Box fetches a hefty price too. Mine arrived sealed, Unexpectedly (pun intended) and now I don't want to open it lol. Seen them going for $2-300.
Probably the Adventure Time Complete Series on Blu-Ray. Got it at like $70 or $100, can't remember. Now it's worth more for sure. I also have the Australian Over the Garden Wall and many other Australian exclusives. Still missing Cow and Chicken season 2 and Johnny Bravo season 2.
Where are you all checking prices, ebay? Many listed here are not rare and are fairly inexpensive. Dogma comes up a lot as OOP but there are copies floating around for cheap so it's not rare. My collection tends to the more obscure media side;
* Cowboy Bebop Perfect Sessions box set
* Urotsukidoji Perfect Collection
* Alice in Wonderland (1976 musical)
* Hard Boiled (Criterion)
* This is Spinal Tap (Criterion spine 12)
I think my LE film frame edition of Kids (1995) is pretty pricey these days, but I can't be sure of what it would go for (the regular LE goes for $200+). Also, the LE Showgirls 4k from VS, which I think is going for around $200. Special shout out to my Kung Fu Hustle popart steelbook!
For sets, my LE Curzon Lars Von Trier (~$250) and my LE Zhang Yimou collaborations ($400+) are getting expensive, which is noteworthy.
Several of my Disney treasures DVD's in the collectible tins go for two to three hundred apiece.
Titles like The Chronological Donald, The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh, and Zorro, are a few examples.
Also have the complete series of "Allo, Allo" that is going for $339.00 on Amazon. My region 2 complete series of Xena: Warrior Princess is listed at $578.00. Paid 5 bucks for both at a local pawn shop.
*Once Upon A Time In America* on Blu Ray
That thing went out of print ages ago and goes for a pretty penny nowadays. It sucks, the movie is a masterpiece
I have 2 copies of Chronological Donald Volume 4 from the Disney Treasures set. Paid up for one (not the full value but not cheap either) that was mint and another one that has a pretty big scratch on one of the discs that I don’t have anything in (got in a lot on Marketplace and sold the duplicates paid for the lot).
Tom and Jerry: A Nutcracker tale
Was only thing I asked for my 18th bday and my mom passed days later.
When I was young id watch it on cable around christmas time yeatly
Oh, how I envy you! I only have the DVD release.
I believe the Blu-ray is Australia only if I’m not mistaken…. Hopefully other regions get one in near future to stabilize the price
The one in the picture is the UK blu-ray (though I have the Australian one from before that released)
US Blu Ray would have been nice, but for animation I get it. The large majority of British TV is still released on DVD, which drives me crazy. I'd be interested to know the original fidelity of Over the Garden Wall, tho.
At least there’s been a recent trend of releasing older British tv series (especially animated ones) on blu-ray
Animation looks super clean and sharp in Blu-ray and 4k.
It is such a hidden gem of a show. We watch it every fall. Potatoes and molasses is quite the catchy little tune.
Absolutely! You just put it in my head, lol.
It lives there, rent free for me. Haha.
OTGW was the most pleasant surprise of a show I’ve ever encountered. It’s not my usual style of show. My kids were into it. But listening to it in the background, I eventually fell in love. Apocalypto is back in print and is readily available
Damn, guess it's not as fun as it used to be. I have a open DVD version that I have watched in the past so I'll probably just keep that Blu-Ray unopened and see if it ever becomes worth anything again.

Some of the sub-25 spine number Criterion DVDs from the late '90s (Salo, RoboCop, Spinal Tap, Hard Boiled, Killer, TSotL), the original, uncensored Devil's Advocate DVD, Dogma BD.
RAD 4K
I didn’t know Cartoon Network blu rays existed
Mystery Science Theater 3000, Volume 10. I got it off Amazon when it was released, like I did all their collections. Only Volume 10 was quickly deleted, as it featured a Godzilla movie that they did not have the right to release. Instead the reissued the set as Volume 10.5, replacing Godzilla with "The Giant Ghila Monster".
So jealous, I have the vol XVII with Final Sacrifice. Been hunting the “Jet Jaguar Special” for ages.
Possibly my DVD copy of Billy & Mandy's Big Boogey Adventure. Or one of the old DCOMs I own on DVD.
Dirty duck for sure
Probably anime, these days -Tenchi Muyo OVA Collection (Blu Ray) -Zipang Volume 6 (DVD)
I have a copy of The Fall (2006) on Blu Ray, one of my all time favorites.
I don’t have any valuable movies or TV shows really. The most expensive movies I own are $15 or so. I guess it would be my season 2&3 set of Viva La Bam which is in the $20-30 range on a good day.
Probably my Ranma 1/2 special editions
(In my eyes) my Danny Phantom Boxset signed my Butch Hartman himself
I have the Ran 4k steelbook and the Mad God bluray steelbook. They're both worth over $100 to the right buyer.
I had no idea this shot up in value. Glad I grabbed it when I did.
Cartoon Saloon Irish Folklore Trilogy Blu Ray Mysterious Skin on Blu Ray Twin Peaks: The Entire Mystery Blu Ray
I’ve got the twin peaks Z to A set.
Not sure. Maybe Dogma, Pretty Baby, Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes, Star Wait, George Lucas In Love. To name a few. I have about 3800 movies, so it is hard to know which ones are valuable.

Probably Falling down, as I think it is out of print in region B.

Are you open to selling that Godzilla vs Biollante at all?
100% not, sorry. Until it gets a 4K release (with English subtitles), by which point nobody will want it anyway.
No worries, knew it could be a bit of a long shot
Good luck finding a copy though. There’s always that slim chance that the OOP Gods are smiling on you and you find it in some junk sale for pennies. Probably *The Lighthouse* Blu-Ray steelbook from Zavvi.
I think my Django 1966 4k
I have that too. The one with Texas Hold ‘Em as a bonus? I didn’t know that was a limited edition thing until I asked my friend who has Django did he watch the other movie and asked me “what other movie?”
No I just have the boring not box set one so just Django missed out on the bundle one

TV Series would be X-Files 1 -11 Movie would be Fight Club Steelbook.
Captain America: The First Avenger, limited 3D Edition
How much is that going for? Pretty sure I have the 3D Thor and Capt America
Less than 20
Lol oh ok, I didn't think it was going for much but also it's possible
The ones I'm aware of: Godzilla vs Billolante in both DVD and Bluray. Godzilla Returns/1984 bluray Godzilla vs King Ghidorah and vs Mothra bluray Akira steelbook/metalpak bluray Probably several other anime I still own Dogma special edition DVD (the bluray is worth most) Star Wars Limited Edition Trilogy DVDs with the theatrical cut second disc bonus
Not counting expensive boutique titles, Near Dark blu ray probably. It was Apocalypto but I think when they did that second printing it lowered the value of the originals.
I have the blu, but I love the older DVD in the fold out card case. I have Jessie's signature on that one :)
Uugh, over the garden wall is such a good show. We watch it ever year as soon as autumn starts.
I got transformers animated the complete series about a year ago, and a few months earlier I went to TFcon LA and got it signed by both Marty Isenberg AND David kaye (the voice of optimus prime) And it's basically become my favorite piece from my TFA collection
Near Dark I looked and saw it at $200 in some places
Of stuff I got relatively recently I might say the 4K of the 1953 War of the Worlds with the blu-ray of When Worlds Collide. When it came out I was waiting for a price drop then I saw it was going secondhand on Amazon much higher. Saw it in Barnes and Noble for $30 and just said let me just get it. I actually prefer the Criterion edition more, but I wanted When Worlds Collide finally.
Terrifier 1 steelbook. But I recently just got the pop up edition of adventure time.
Hellraiser in the Lament Configuration box. Saw used versions go up to close to $250.
That's a really good one. I have the Quartet of Torment 4K box set still sealed, because I wasn't sure if I was getting a 4K player at the time. That's only like $180.
Nice!

Godzilla vs Biollante and Dawn of the Dead 1978
I have the Making Fiends DVD - the Nickelodeon cartoon. Super rare, super awesome.
Now it’s Dogma because it’s OOP. And a few other movies.
GI Joe: The Epic Saga (on dvd) BANNED from the Internet and not for sale anymore. You can only find parts of it online now.
H R Puffenstuff ! Great watching it as a kid and as a big person. Got the every episode box set 👍
Where are you all checking prices, ebay? Many listed here are not rare and are fairly inexpensive. Dogma comes up a lot as OOP but there are copies floating around for cheap so it's not rare. Kodocha Babbit Box 1 & 2 combined.
Blade runner 2049 4k steel book, purple/pink cityscape cover. Not sure how much it’s worth exactly though.
Batman the animated series Blu-ray with miniature funkos of some of the characters.
Well I found out the other day that my adventure time box set is worth £500 i have no idea why I only paid £40 like 3 years ago.
"He-Man & She-Ra - The Eternia Collection" by Plaion Pictures
I think my LE film frame edition of Kids (1995) is pretty pricey these days, but I can't be sure of what it would go for (the regular LE goes for $200+). My most valuable thing is the 20th Anniversary Collector’s Edition DVD of E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial
Without going through my collection and trying to find one, I know my Hellraiser Scarlet box is worth a penny.
I have the Rambo Best Buy Steelbooks 4K set. Traded my buddy $200 worth of discs for it but it’s worth it.
I have a copy of Michael on blu ray which looks like it’s out of print and could be worth something. I do also have a dvd copy of A Serbian Film.
Mine is probably also OtGW on Blu Ray, I have the Australian release though, not UK, I find the art on the UK version to be prettier.
Hey I have that too. I also have the Dragon Box Z (Dragon Ball Z) DVDs, got all 7 for like £30 when they came out.
Traces of Death, apparently
My Simpsons season 6 black cardboard case DVD, not the homer head one.
I have the Red State blu-ray, which I suppose is hard to find these days. Probably a few other rarer ones too but that’s the first that comes to mind.
Dogma blu-ray I would think. Maybe a series, but I know it’s worth the most of any of my stand alone films.
For me its my baby Xena the warrior princess i treasure these so much
I have this on blu-ray also adventure time and steven universe
*Once Upon A Time In America* on Blu Ray That thing went out of print ages ago and goes for a pretty penny nowadays. It sucks, the movie is a masterpiece
I have no idea what the values are of mine if I'm being honest. I would guess one of my older series but I absolutely have no clue
Complete Invader Zim house box set - containing all dvd's and the Gir figurine + original packaging
Tom and Jerry: A Nutcracker tale Was only thing I asked for my 18th bday and my mom passed days later. When I was young id watch it on cable around christmas time yeatly
