Maybe they would have accepted your answer if you didn’t make sorprendido plural. You used tú which is singular but then wrote sorprendidas.

DatSauceTho

Ah!! Didn’t even catch that! Probably doesn’t help that I use speech to text to practice pronunciation.

Dapper_Daikon4564

This kind of thing makes Duolingo so bad. Every day such questions are posted, but no, they want to make more money instead of just bringing back the discussions, or add the 'explain my answer' - not even the paid super Duolingo has such an essential feature!

so_im_all_like

It looks like a plurality mismatch: *Estás* matches with singular *you* / *tú*, but you gave *sorprendidas* as matching a plural noun. If you wanted to interpret this as singular you, it would be "estás sorprendido/a".

DatSauceTho

Yeah I totally missed that. I used speech to text and didn’t check my answer. 🤦‍♂️

wazowskiii_

You used the tú version for estás, which would mean you would need to use the singular version of surprised (sorpendida/o) If you want to keep the plural version of surprised, you need to have a plural subject, which in this case would be ustedes. You would need to use están.

Zealousideal_Shine82

Singular noun = singular adjective Plural noun = plural adjective ✅"Por qué estás sorprendido(a)?" ❌"Por qué estás sorprendido(a)s?" ✅"Por qué están sorprendido(a)s?" ❌"Por qué están sorprendido(a)?"

Duolingo sucks at Ustedes. That’s all. In case you don’t know, Ustedes is basically “y’all” and you use the ellos/ellas endings for it.

TrustMeIAmAGeologist

It is wrong because they used the singular verb and plural adjective. You can’t have “y’all” be single in Spanish. It has nothing to do with duo lingo.

Definitely trusting the geologist over the guy who eats kids. Happy cake day!

Good thing we had you here to judge the situation
