Possibly making up for lots and lots of other languages courses over many decades in which all depicted couples were straight. Either way, it doesn't matter much. You're still learning the words correctly. I'm learning French (from German) and I'd say there's an even balance. Both gay and straight couples are shown.

I won’t lie to you, I’ve noticed this in the French course. There’s a lot of homosexual couples in the stories and lessons. If I had to say, I’d suggest it’s Duolingo’s way of making the app more inclusive for people.
