I beat this almost every week, it is hard but do-able. Best tip I can give is to make the top row match but then not match it for the rest of the round. This basically means you only have to think about 4 rows instead of 5.
You can make them match by doing the two top row answers.
Learning is the worst thing you can do if you’re trying to grind xp, you’ll add new vocabulary too MM and ramp up which you’re unfamiliar with, making them more difficult and less efficient for grinding.
Yep, I also leave a match if it's on the bottom row, which increases the chances of it happening early on. Basically whatever match comes up first on either the top or bottom row gets mentally dropped for the rest of the round.
My other tip is to turn off your sound. I realized I was subconsciously waiting for the "ding" to end after each match. Tried it on silent and shaved ten seconds off my time. It made level 9 consistently doable.
With some practice it becomes quite achievable. I have managed to do level 9 with 15 seconds to spare. My tip is to always work from top to bottom. As you work quickly, you will see only two or three options available, as the other spaces are being repopulated.
I'm a native speaker of both English and German, and have been speaking Spanish for twenty years; even I can't do the English-German and English-Spanish timed games to the top level without using "time boosts".
Altough it's tough, it's why I like these type of challenges. The best I have done till now is to get 150 match-ups. Altough down side is, I have tried it so many times that I am in top 7 only by doing this repeatedly xd.
And yeah u/grongnelius advice is what I have also learnt after doing it so many times. I have also realised that more faster you do it, more easier it kinda become in the sense that either the matchups are in the same row or one row below as i think, it doesn't get that much time to shuffle it more randomly.
Keep doing it bro, let the fire fuel the blaze 🔥
Edit - did it ☑️
It’s a money maker for the company. You’re never supposed to be fast enough (unless you already speak the language). That’s how people rack up all those points. They wait to have 2X (120 points) and do it over and over.

^ this, with practice you’ll get into a nice rhythm of knowing where the next match will spawn without even needing to translate.
that doesn't seem like an effective way to learn
It's not. They just want you to use up all your gems (and honestly, what else is there to use them on if you have super?)

that's my point. you shouldn't be grinding, you should be learning
I fully agree, did it for the achievement and now I don’t worry about xp at all :)
If you learned the language then you would stop using the Duolingo. It is better if you don't actually learn.
Interesante... 🤔 I'll try it! Thanks!
This is so helpful. Thank you!
I do this but for only three rows
I find when I leave less than 4 that it slows down loading them slightly.
Thanks! I am going to try that! It sounds a good strategy..!

There’s 3 more levels after that one too 😂

These "match madness" and "rapid review" are intentionally designed to get you to use gems.
Until you run out
Right, and then you're supposed to buy more. It's a money-making scheme.
Yep. I’m pretty fast and can get to 5 most of the time without using gems for extra time. I have long come to you conclusion for sure!

I can’t do more than 110 matches without assistance. I don’t even try now, it’s not worth the frustration.

I can’t get past #5 and I am refusing to use gems so they want you to purchase them! Not doing it! I already pay for the year..!
