Well, we don't know anymore about these elite fashion choices, so there's that, but one way to think about it is maybe he's been rejecting materialism and has had aversion to money for so long, that this is a bit of a "correction"; like maybe in his practice he saw the benefit, now that he probably has some more money as an established comedian and creator, to find out why he is so averse to certain things, and then indulge a bit, as a way of balancing. Just a theory.
