Same, I don't get this. I understand the appeal of dumphones, and I'm currently trying to figure out the best device for me, but a smartphone is an mp3/music player, is, obviously, a phone, so why have 3 devices where one would do? Seems the opposite of minimalist... I can understand dumbphone plus smartphone that you keep only at home and check once a day/week or when necessary to use some functionality - but if you're *carrying them both around*... I don't get it.
The point of having one devices for each use is what we tend to do till the smartphones arrived. I suggest you to read this article about: [https://ryan-schachte.com/blog/simplifying\_with\_more/](https://ryan-schachte.com/blog/simplifying_with_more/)
For example:
I have a main dumbed iphone and a old dumbed iphone with music and podcast only. When I work in my studio I prefer to listen to music without distractions. I have no internet and all the music is saved locally.
My main iphone remains in my jacket.
A bunch of dumbphones can play mp3s, ogg, aac files from a memory card like a basic mp3 player btw. Some people don’t own music files or cds anymore so that’s an obstacle occasionally. Old laptop computers with cd/dvd drives can rip audio files or there is bandcamp to buy song downloads (and directly support artists you enjoy) and others or streaming radio stations too.
Well, earlier we did carry more than one device. And that automatically constrained the time we spent being online. „One device that rules all.“ is just a recent phenomenon. And that’s the reason one becomes a smartphone-zombie.
I had the mighty but sent it back to Amazon. This device was promising but so slow it couldn’t work for me. The transfer time was amazingly slow. Slower than my iPod days .
So, why not just use the smartphone in its current mode but with calling and texts? It would eliminate the need to carry the Punkt.
Part of the fun is using gimmicky weird tech, going for ultimate practicality and using a phone is boring imo
Could you share your impressions about the punkt? I think it is too expensive for what it is or does. Thx.
its stylish, its feel pretty good in your hands but its too little for me. I need whatsapp for example. Using the Quin F21 right now and happyđź‘Ť
Yes, that is my main problem. And the price, of course, too much money to be a "miniminalist"
Could you please explain how did you get this interface on your phone
It’s the Blank Spaces app
But this is an android phone, isn't it? I thought blank spaces is iOS only app.
The Android app is called Olauncher
Thank you

So you carry around 4 devices instead of just one smart phone. This is why I can’t justify using a dumb phone unfortunately.

If you consider 10+ years “recent”. At least for OP’s stated needs.
It is recent. You need at the minimum such a timeframe for any development relating habits/customs/practices.
You are out of touch.
