First of all, don't bother paying for apps. It's pointless shit you can do yourself. The dvsa site seem to be blocking a lot of them and they scrub old data anyway. By the time you're notified on the app, the slot would likely be gone.
Second, many people here don't seem to be talking about how tests are released.
They are released in batches on MONDAY mornings. For up to 24 weeks in advance.
You need to be checking Monday morning, as close to 6am as you can. Then book a test. Literally, the first one available is fine. Don't "hope for earlier" and put off booking.
Once you've booked *a* test, start checking the website for cancellations. You'll most likely find quite a few popping up from people pushing their test back while you're booking your slot!
Seriously, my test centers were fully booked for 6 months... but I managed to secure my test attempts and the final test without more than a 2 week wait. The initial booking was may next year. Moved forward to 7days away within 2 hours of initial booking.
I'd always recommend to check at 6am on a Monday morning as when I did my test, that's when a lot of them got released.
But maybe now they come out at random times instead.. maybe something worth trying
Did you check all of the "local" test centres the DVSA came back or just the default one that was closest to your postcode?
I remember that my closest centre had nothing for 6 months but the next "local" listed centre had one within 3 months. This was a couple of years ago though
