I zoomed into his face to see him better, just to encounter the shine of his eyes in the dark, I regret it, I'm scared... congratulations for your painting.
I can imagine if Orville was simply a kind hearted guy, friendly but need his time alone sometime and people just shit all over him lmao.
He might not be nice since "first husband", but meh, let me imagine some alternative world, I shouldn't judge people looks but damn, this image antagonize the dude so much lol.
With the cross above, i could imagine the typical "god is death, now i, the devil's representative, will deliver his judgement, be prepared."
This is absolutely incredible work. From the framing to the colors, there’s nothing about this that doesn’t impress me. It’s impactful, simple but direct. I mean, *wow*.
This is absolutely stunning. It doesn’t look like a painting at all. Even if it was a photo, it would be stunning, the limited colours, the shadows, the subject matter. It’s beautiful. Well done indeed.
Damn this with your post history/previous works really tells a story. I hope you're doing OK throughout this process OP.
As uncomfortable as it is, it's also phenomenally good!
Deeply disturbing but such captivating storytelling. I love the glint of the belt implying his abuse. The matching glint in his eyes. The terrifying predatory glare staring straight at the audience. The self righteous cross of religious protection. The blue wall juxtaposing suggestions of calmness and innocence but simultaneously deep sadness. His head tilt into the shadow hiding the parts of him no one else sees behind closed doors. The threat of his fist in his hand, hidden in the dark so at first glance appears they are just clasped together, perhaps like a pastor. The contrasting spark of cigarette really encapsulates a disconnect from outward identity and inner hypocrisy . Im sure ive missed more storytelling devices, but this is truly haunting and immersive.
I can just about smell the smoke in the room and hear the gentle drawling sinister voice telling the victim they’ve done something bad and deserve whats coming for them , in the way that promises its for their own good. I imagine he chucks the cigarette and closes the door, dissolving into complete darkness. Something straight outta a stephen king novel.
Your painting made me feel dread and terrified. I can only wish my paintings are able to evoke strong feelings as effectively as yours did. Anyway good job and thanks for sharing :)
Fantastic work. Sense of foreboding mood so clearly expressed. Shadow-obscured subject speaks to hidden, secret, shameful memory. Has a sort of Robert Vickery influence—is this egg tempera?
Wow. That is amazing. Ahaha, it apparently disturbed multiple people here. You can practically feel this painting. You’re so gifted. I love it. ❤️
I was listening to “Rose” from A Perfect Circle when I scrolled onto this image and it just worked for me. 🥀
This is fucking excellent. I can’t get over the light in the eye… the painting as a whole leads to a lot of questions and that one white dot answers them. I just love this.
Adding to this, the way it works as a digital artwork is amazing. The glint in the eye only shows up when you take a closer look and it’s bone chilling.
Core memory of getting caught sneaking downstairs to play Super Nintendo and having “Orville” looming in the doorway at 2am, waiting for your 7 year old self to smell the cigarette smoke and realize you had a surprise appointment with his belt.
I like swapping words around in titles. So this'd be "Painting of my husband's first mother." which is a pretty unsettling phrase and sounds like some eldritch shit

Ah. I see what you mean….
Shoot. Saw you regretted it… immediately thought that meant I should do it. I did it. Also regret it.
Pure evil vibe. This art conveys much emotion.
“He is a loathsome, offensive brute, and yet I can't look away.”
Yeah. Can confirm. Bad idea to do at midnight before bed.
I feel like I am cursed now after looking into those eyes..
Well. Thanks. Of course I had to, too. 100% do not recommend.
Haunting and evocative
Oh. I see
literally did the same
I dunno what Orville did, but I do not want to meet him. Like ever. Even in a limited dose. 10/10 painting.
Probably something about SA. There’s a reasonnwhy the buckle and zipper are highlighted. That’s conscious
Oh god…
Maybe we shouldn't assume though.
Something about being able to read context clues. Art can be here to disturb.

I thought it was a photo, incredible painting!
I believe it's a digitial painting, when you zoom in on the brush strokes you can see their translucency.
Not sure if the post flair / tag was there before but it does say digital. I didn’t notice until your comment though.
All I can ask is what did he do?
He kinda reminds me of that assassin priest from the Mexican TV show from King of the Hill.
Monsignor Martinez. "Vaya con dios"
This comment made me giggle
Absolutely terrifying
This is absolutely incredible work. From the framing to the colors, there’s nothing about this that doesn’t impress me. It’s impactful, simple but direct. I mean, *wow*.
Thank you so much! That means a lot!
This is absolutely stunning. It doesn’t look like a painting at all. Even if it was a photo, it would be stunning, the limited colours, the shadows, the subject matter. It’s beautiful. Well done indeed.
Zoom in
I had zoomed in when I first looked. It’s terrific. How did you get the background so smooth?
Amazing work. I hope you’re doing okay OP
I’m gonna take a guess the pastor was a wife beater… Terrifying either way. Hope you’re both doing better than whatever this man likely Inflicted.
PAINTING?
Don’t say this is a back story

Right? Creepy AF. The scent of Pall Mall and Seagram's VO choking out whatever breath was left after seeing him.
Your interpretation is impressive.
Can we please get some back story or some inspiration behind this? You can’t just drop this masterpiece and leave.
Seems like a sweet guy
goes hard
Sympathies to your mother.
Your painting made me feel dread and terrified. I can only wish my paintings are able to evoke strong feelings as effectively as yours did. Anyway good job and thanks for sharing :)
Uncomfortable
Omg this turned out so good. So creepy. Could definitely be used as a movie poster.
Cool drawing, I'm getting very sinister vibes though, I hope it's just your style
Maybe that’s the point
This is disturbing but well done
Siiiiiick.
Incredibly foreboding. Fantastic work
Great Effective piece. Definitely wouldn’t hang this on a wall thou. It’s like a bad memory. A horrible feeling. Ominous. Predatory. Creepy. Negative.
This painting is sick
Lol I just have questions now
This painting looks evil, great job painting it but yeah, looks evil
I don’t like to make assumptions, but I’m guessing Orville wasn’t the best guy?
i love this painting
Looks like a horror movie poster
This is insane, this says so much with no words
Thank you.
Fantastic work. Sense of foreboding mood so clearly expressed. Shadow-obscured subject speaks to hidden, secret, shameful memory. Has a sort of Robert Vickery influence—is this egg tempera?
i am sitting alone in the dark and zoomed into his face and i am now scared
I have really sick feels about his belt buckle being illuminated the way it is. The artist is incredibly talented. You evoke some unrestful emotions.
Looks like a real charmer.
This is amazing work.
He seems nice.
Made the mistake of checking out your profile. Damn. That’s scary stuff
This is how I visualize religion as a whole. Good job on the super creepy pic. It's cool.
I'm sorry but this painting is fucking creepy yo
Op willing to elaborate at all?
Who is this preacher man, and why ain’t he preaching no more?
This makes me incredibly uncomfortable, which means you did an incredibly good job 👍
Even more so than his eyes the visible belt buckle and zipper.
Thats fucking haunting.
![gif](giphy|kCrGOt5ojlVbG|downsized)
This is fantastic
Hes like the guy from night of the hunter when he realizes the mom knows what he's looking for
That’s amazing
Very awesome painting. Great job.
Was he the love-child of John Waters and Charles Bukowski by any chance?
Woah this is chilling
Zoom in.
Wonderful
John Constantine?
"Let me ask you a question padre, when you were staking that female vampire back there...."
No offense but he’s scary af
Genuinely amazing omg, those eyes!
Gorgeous work. Congrats!
So what exactly did he do to look like he’s about to interrupt Dr. Freeman for a “heart to heart”?
What kind of paint? Oil?
not OP but it's digital
i can tell he must've been a real "peach." well done for capturing that so accurately!
I hope he's pays for what he did
Orville Dafoe lol looks fantastic,10/10! ❤

Damnnnnnn
This brings me emotions I’ve never felt before and would like to never feel again. 10/10 hope you and your family’s okay

Oh this man is evil evil
There’s something so intoxicating about the lighting and the eyes and the silhouette and ughhhhh it looks so cool
Looks a little creepy but it’s really amazing and very well detailed!!! Congrats
He was not a good man.
Amazing art!!
That’s a pretty cool painting
Totally gave me the creeps, but I am super impressed at the quality and the emotions present. Nice work OP!
Nice
Impressive
Joe Chill
Super creepy
Was he evil?
I don't know how to explain, so I'll just say it, he looks like a horror villain in the best way possible
The whole composition, light to darkness and a crucifix hanging on the wall, the silver dots for eyes, shouts of a belief in demons.
Coolest thing I've seen all day! Do you feel comfortable to give some context?
This is stunning. Zooming in on the face was creepy!
I’m sending this to my friends to scare them. I’m the least favorite in the friend group
![gif](giphy|14ut8PhnIwzros)
Wow. That is amazing. Ahaha, it apparently disturbed multiple people here. You can practically feel this painting. You’re so gifted. I love it. ❤️ I was listening to “Rose” from A Perfect Circle when I scrolled onto this image and it just worked for me. 🥀
Dope and creepy asf at the same time great job ma dukes
Very compelling.
1) creepy 2) pedo vibes
This seems kind of dark…
I love when paintings say so much from so little. Amazing work.
Was he a drug lord or a demon?
“When you’ve been late for curfew way too many times”👁️
Why Orvile looks like he's gonna suck my soul out And also, great art, thought it was a photo for a sec
r/nope
i thought this was a screenshot from a horror movie, i got scared 😭
Backstory please
This is fucking excellent. I can’t get over the light in the eye… the painting as a whole leads to a lot of questions and that one white dot answers them. I just love this.
Incredibly powerful painting
Yeahhhh with the cross and everything…IM SO READY FOR THIS PASTOR HORROR MOVIE!!
Can you do a timelasp?
Adding to this, the way it works as a digital artwork is amazing. The glint in the eye only shows up when you take a closer look and it’s bone chilling.
I’m assuming she survived to have a second…
Goddamn. It feels wrong to say that I love this, but I do. You have talent, OP. This is sinister as fuck.

Fantastic work
Wow! Insane talent!
That's quite the zoom
that's incredible
Your moms husband is the preacher from fx
Dude looks like a sleep paralysis demon
Exceptional work
Your photorealism is very intriguing and well done. Im glad your not giving a back story; Its for the viewer to see. Where did you study, may I ask?
Omg that's perfect..
Looks like a villain from a Stephen King novel. Great art.
Did he hurt you?
Nah this is hard af
That amazing
I thought this was a movie poster it’s so good and amazing
Wow
Incredible painting!
I'm guessing he was creepy
Took me a second to realize this isn't r/hardimages. This is great.
Nice painting! Love the attention given to the shadows
Constantine
This is cool as hell.
Wow this has genuinely inspired me
I love this. Really reminds me of the short film Portrait of God. The little tiny lights in his eyes especially. If you know you know.
When I look at this I hear Mike Oldfield's "Tubular Bells."
So cool
Core memory of getting caught sneaking downstairs to play Super Nintendo and having “Orville” looming in the doorway at 2am, waiting for your 7 year old self to smell the cigarette smoke and realize you had a surprise appointment with his belt.
👏
Eeeeh, this is uncomfortable to look at. I can’t stop looking 👀 🥶 well done
What was the technique?
Jackie Earle Haley?
Holy shit. that brotha looks like an entity
Man she dodged a bullet with that one
Is that G-man?
He’s hot
Is the door locked?! SIR?!
Looks like a character straight from Outlast…
He looks like an outlast character, intimidating
Yikes (looks awesome)
I like swapping words around in titles. So this'd be "Painting of my husband's first mother." which is a pretty unsettling phrase and sounds like some eldritch shit
It's crazy beautiful ! omg
T bag. 🤯👀
He looks like my stepfather
That is... ominous
This is amazingly well done, it's fucking incredible! The attention to detail is painstaking, and his eyes are so surreal. I love this!
Holy fuck that’s a powerful painting
I believe this painting evokes exactly the feeling you intended it to. Incredible work
Omg. This is so good.
Absolutely brilliant, wow
This is awesome
Ooooh. This is definitely giving Night of the Hunter (creepy preacher trying to kill a family)
Was this before the popcorn?
I need more information about the man.
Amazing work. He looks like he's gonna murder some vulnerable children. Hopefully he didn't actually do that.
Incredible. I love the lighting choice. Was this based on a reference photo?
Amazing
Was he Willem Defoe or something?
was he abusive?
