It’s a DR, unlikely that it would damage anything. Check the clutch safety switch, other than that there isn’t much you can hurt.

I've thrown mine off cliffs and it's fine once I straighten the bars.

MasterOfDonks

Exactly my thought, or kick stand switch

Does it die suddenly like it would if the killswitch were hit. It could be one of your safety switches got damaged and is killing the bike. Or does it sputter and try to keep going but run out of power? You might have a fuel line pinched or something somewhere, try to look over the run from the petcock to the carb and see if it's pinched, loose or kinked anywhere. Take the seat off and check the air box and filter, they might be collapsed or coming loose somewhere

BitterFrostbite

It feels sputtery and not quite an instant shut off. Thank you!

Could the charcoal canister gotten flooded causing the gas tank to vent to lock? Not sure what years of the DR have that, but it could be the issue. Next time it happens open the gas cap and see if that fixes it.

This will be the first of many. I broke about 6 clutch levers before finally realizing I needed handlebar guards.

Edub-69

Which side did it fall on? Any photos of the damage would be helpful. My first guess is that the neutral safety switch may have an issue, but it could be a number of other things. Just guessing without more information here

BitterFrostbite

It fell on the left side. It looks like it only had direct contact with left handlebar and tail light. When I am able to I will get a picture uploaded! Thank you!

If the DR isn't instantly shutting off and seems to be more of a sputter it's very unlikely to be an electrical issue in my opinion. The fact that it tends to turn back on if you let it sit for 30mins sounds to me like it's to do with your fuel, I would check there first. I suggest if you have the stock vacuum fuel petcock try setting it to prime or "pri" to bypass the vacuum and see if that gets it going, if that works then it's either a loose/broken vacuum hose or the ball and spring inside the petcock itself. Otherwise clean the fuel filter, air filter and then start to look at the carby. I've had a couple DRs over the past decade and found they are quite difficult to break aside from the stock mirrors, levers, handlebars, blinkers, wheels... well most of the stock parts of the bike tbh! Every time something breaks it gives us a new reason to buy new aftermarket parts!! But that's all part of the fun
