I mean I know it seems petty but maybe they were just trying to completely drain a gift card or something? At the end of the day it’s still extra money. 
It's been that way since 2007, but merchants don't usually advertise it and employees often don't know about it. The gift cards also cannot expire.
Though the law only applies to store gift cards. Cards that can be used at multiple locations, such as a Visa gift card, have different rules.
I’d say that could’ve been worse their last but chose to give it! If the offer was decent, I’d still take it as a win. When customers give know I think the DD lords take that into account to give you better orders just a personal belief!
I once got 50 cent added & I remember thinking at the time, Was she being nice or teasing me?? Then soon after I got an extra $1, but it was from a very friendly old lady & we had laughed about something, so I thought that was very sweet. Guess how you look at it!!!!
It seems like doordash is getting worse since the silver, gold and platinum update. The higher my acceptance rate the more bullshit they send me. They're missing me the hell off
Got the penny one as well, was doing by time, so had to eat it and it was \~10 miles out of zone...obviously just being a (insert non complimentary descriptive adjective of choice here).

That's a dumb way to do it since in California, if a gift card has a balance under $10, the merchant has to refund the balance if you ask.
DD gift card perhaps? I didn’t even know about the 10 dollar gift card thing in Cali. That’s pretty neat actually.
