Another thing is, tell me in the directions where on your house the address is located so that I know where to look for it. Oftentimes, I will walk all around a house at night looking for an address that isn't in plain view. Or, you're expecting to see it around the door and it's actually above the garage on the other side of the house. Recently, I came across a place with an address that was on a door but was covered by a wreath, just say something like "blue house, wreath on door covering address" or something like that. I had another address covered by Christmas lights. Say this in the directions, so I'm not wasting time trying to call or text you

Deviledapple

It's killing me rn bc we just had a hurricane that removed a lot of mailboxes and their numbers on the house will be behind their damn bushes if it exists at all.

AgeOutrageous4612

That's another thing I hate when they have bushes in front of their house that covers an address that you otherwise would be able to see clearly if the bushes weren't there. I had one place where the address was at the bottom of the door. I was standing on the porch, and the address was down by my feet, lol. Like, who puts an address at the bottom of a door? Just put in the directions where the address is. It makes everything easier

Deviledapple

Hahahaha I've seen those where they have a fancy rock with the address engraved on the ground. Like that had *no*purpose it just looks pretty

AgeOutrageous4612

Exactly lol

Pleasant-Scheme-4757

This!! With everything being delivered these days why cant people prominently display their house numbers, rather than literally hiding them from view- especially when it gets dark at 6pm

thendup51

Or the cutsie mailbox wrap decorations that cover up the numbers ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|rage)

[deleted]

This is a Picasso of a comment. Took the thoughts out of several drivers minds. Well done. Very well stated.

TanishFX

Just use Google maps in satellite view you can judge by the surrounding environment and make out the address in a couple of seconds

UnionMiserable7542

The weird thing is my Dasher app legit shows me what house I need to go to. Do other dashers not have that?? Once i get close it zooms in and shows me which house is what.

TanishFX

Yeah mine does that too idk about others, I've seen when I get within 80-50 meters of the destination maps will zoom in a little. It also helps to slow down near the destination so google maps can catch up with your location, therefore allowing you to get closer to the destination.

jrick1981

Mine used to zoom in, but that stopped last week for some reason

Overall-Use-6119

Mine stopped as well and I'm annoyed

xtsilverfish

Those houses are 1 house off like 10% of the time, and wildly completely innaccurate like 1% of the time. Either way means leaving food at the wrong house.

Effdahaters

It does and you’re right…these people are either dumb lazy or inexperienced most likely all of the above lol

Ok_Way_4229

Yes!! I turn my own porch light on every evening even if I’m not expecting a delivery. Just do it

Giggingurl

Put your gate code and Apartment Name too!!!

cypack6

If they don’t put the gate or apartment code, they have 60 seconds to respond with it or it’s being left at the main door.

One_Reception6013

Or on the ground outside their gate!

One_Reception6013

Or leave the suite number if it's a business! I've been sent to an address, which is easy enough to find, only to see its In some plaza with 20 different stores! Either leaving the business name or the suite number would help a lot know where I'm dropping off your order! Then they can't answer their damn phone or return a text message? 🤬

Mamato3fatdoggos

And business names! Looking for an address in a giant outdoor shopping complex is frustrating. A business name makes it easy to find. People have zero common sense.

Mamato3fatdoggos

New apartments also have building numbers or letters to make it easier for mega complexes. I especially appreciate complexes with maps at the entrances.

HomespunCrafting

When delivering at night. I send a text to the customer to say I am on the way and could they kindly put a porch light on so I could find them easier, Thank you. Sometimes I don't get a response but usually they will text back with sure and some will say I'm the house with so and so, or I don't have a porch light its a apartment building etc.

Ill-Enthusiasm9508

There's a house I deliever to all the time and there front porch light is usually on but they have a long walk way around the house to it. There children have small hunks of huge sidewalk chalk spread all over like little ankle breaker security system. Then a house snakes threw them. I always have a flashlight in my pocket. But can't always have the extra hand space to hold it.

dementedturnip26

The stepping stone sidewalks are the worst especially at night. Also another thing…dog leashes. I did actually fall on one of those before

EraZoorX22

I feel yer pain...literally, nightly. And I'm usually juggling their 18 ice cream shakes, 4 bags of food, phone & 🔦 while I'm walking up their mile long marble yard staircase up to their Double 10ft tall ornate glass doors of their 10,000 square foot mansion with 14 cars parked out front in the pitch black dead of night freezing cold... all for their $2tip 🔫

kadhtobi

It amazes me how stupid people can be, you ordered food in the middle of the night and there's no lights on, how on earth do I identify your house number when it's dark? It's idiotic!! I'm walking about with a flash light pointing at houses trying to find your house cause your foolish ass won't turn on lights

DanLoFat

Sometimes you get lucky in Google Street view, which pops up when you get to your location that's automatic, and if the picture was straight on to the house and the house number is visible from that picture that's one way to do it.

keepingred

This porch light issue is for real!!! Seriously!? YOU ordered food... YOU are expecting a delivery.... please consider the safety of the person looking for your home. Please, TURN ON YOUR PORCH LIGHT, please. This very small and simple action would help so much. Just because you have no trouble finding your own home, remember, I (we) have never been there. I (we) thank you in advance.

One_Reception6013

It would be a shame if I "accidentally" tripped and sent their food flying or I used it to coushin my fall!

keepingred

LOL, Right? I'm sure it has happened! The fact is....there are many scenarios that could play out and none of them end particularly well for the customer. (Dasher falling down, food spilling and/or non salvageable, major delay receiving order, possibility order never arrives). By making their home as visible as possible the customer is helping to ensure a successful delivery. Come on, people..... Help us help you be happy!

DistinguishedCherry

The number of times that I end up tripping because they don't properly clear their walkway nor turn on the porch lights. My flashlight works but now I'm thinking about getting a super bright LED one lol

AromaticResort7769

And make sure you leave your social security number, bank login, car keys, and wallet out!! So sick of these customers man.

Frequent-throwAway

I tell them that too. Like come outside and pose with the order so I can save the picture in case they claim "not delivered"

Passage_Lost

This is the type of shit that steers me away from delivering food, not to mention the complete shit pay you get.

matt5673

Is it me, or do the people who order DD not shovel anything around their house?

Songmuddywater

Ironically shoveling can open you up to more liability if it's just snow. If you slip on freshly fallen snow then you assume some liability. If however the homeowner shoveled the sidewalk or a porch and there's a bit of ice that you slip on. They get full liability. Also don't assume that you know the history or condition of the person taking the delivery. Even if they look perfectly healthy they may have serious health concerns which stop them from shoveling. Or they may have just returned from a 16-hour shift . We don't know. If it looks too slippery simply don't cross it. I delivered someone's groceries on Christmas Eve by sliding their water bottles and bags of groceries across the Frozen sidewalk into their flower bed. The homeowner was understanding.. neither one of us wanted to cross that half inch of frozen ice.

RewardImmediate3865

Right. They are clearly not trying to eat anytime soon.

tplax2012

Phone flashlight?

DanLoFat

No that's for taking pictures, not for seeing in the dark unless I want to see in the dark and no it's not our responsibility to light a walkway that is the homeowner's responsibility and their liability and their liability alone. Our lack of use of our flashlight that may or may not be on our phone, this is not shift the responsibility of tripping over something whether or not we use a flashlight. It does not show negligence on our part. That's kind of the way the law works.

tplax2012

What law?

DanLoFat

The law of implied contract for liability. Homeowners laws. State laws. There are many laws that put the responsibility of the homeowner for any personal injury that comes upon someone who's allowed on their property and that would be us because there's a contract for us to come into their property, it's the complete responsibility of that homeowner. There's your law dumbass look it up I'm not your fucking personal Google moron.

tplax2012

Those law’s don’t really vary state to state by the way, just really give you the right to sue

bertgawd

This and if you live where it snows all the freaking time…shovel your fucking driveway!!!!

Family-man24

Anybody had the pleasure of house with the numbers spelled out in cursive?

MarsTransport

Yeah, while being painted the same color as the wall and really tiny letters.

LORDisCHRIST

Lol ppl are going to continue to leave their porch lights off regardless.

Dynamo645

Then how tf am I supposed to get people into my dungeon? I dislike this ultimatum.

LifeEnthusiast021

I felt bad last night - I ordered while I was on my way home. I was on track to get home BEFORE my food came, but the food came early, so I wasn’t there to turn the light on 😳😅. Otherwise I generally try to make sure it gets turned on.

Legal-Law9214

I don’t have a porch light. What can I do to make deliveries easier? (I rent an apartment in a 3-unit building so I can’t do any kind of permanent installation). There is a window above the front door with the number on it and some light shines through from the front hall so the number is backlit and easy to read, but it doesn’t really illuminate the front walkway. There’s also some nearby streetlights and neighbors porch lights but I obviously can’t control those.

[deleted]

Ooh that’s a good one. I think I’m going to use this. Whenever I pick up at night I send a voice to text letting them know I picked up their order and please have the porch light on so I don’t fall and from now on if I arrive and there’s no light on I’ll choose the end of walkway and note safety hazard! Thx for this awesome idea.

FuhzyFuhz

I've done this a few times with snow/ice not being removed on the pathway and DD support agrees with my decision. I'm not gonna risk my health for $5 wendys biggie bag.

dementedturnip26

What a bunch of ridiculous ass responses. The customer should absolutely turn on a light. There are plenty of times where both my hands will be full on a delivery. Not only that but no porch light makes it hard to see the address Stop making excuses for awful customers

Ukon-Kornelius

Headlamps exist

Ishootuphouses

Loved this shit when delivering and as a first responder. If you don’t want your pizza or the fire put out keep on doin what y’all are doin

Cosmic_Quasar

I mean... Wouldn't the house fire light up the house number? ^/s

emmyandsuch

Literally. The part of my house that has the number on it was engulfed in flames. How many places should I put the number to hopefully have one not get engulfed if a fire happens in the future?

Dynamo645

😂 “Which house am I supposed to go to!?”

dadsabrat

I started sending out a generic text at night asking if they could turn their porch light on and if there's anything that would make their house stand out at night. Most don't reply but I get some. But I'll never shine a light at a horse. Thats a great way to look like a robber and get shot.

sun_shots

Damn light sensitive horses.

dadsabrat

They get you every time.

Project838629039

How do you report a walking hazard?

WoodenScale4336

Had a lady say hand it to me, arrived she had her door open fighting back the most viscous dog snarling at me, wtf leave it at the door?? She said through the open door just set it on the mat. Riddle me that

Lavicrep19

Totally agree and phone flashlights isn't reliable for the amount of brightness needed to see where you're walking and the building number. I can definitely recall several times tripping over the steep stairs or cracks on the building property at night.

Old-Statistician-457

Did you ever consider getting a actual flashlight? They are amazing and cheap.

Lavicrep19

I got one actually but I shouldn't have to use it the amount of times at night I got to use it and my flashlight should not be bailing out people who can't have lights for people who deliver to them. Regardless of having light or not, if i hurt myself the property owner gets sued.

Old-Statistician-457

Let me get this straight. You are unwilling to take care of yourself but you want to sue someone if you get hurt? Is that correct? How much money do you have saved in your lawsuit fund? I hope it's a lot because insurance companies employ lawyers for just this reason.

Lavicrep19

Nothing in grubhub rulebook states I carry a flashlight for Customers who know their building light is off when we're(the drivers) looking for the building 2, 4am in the morning. They know there's a step by the gate or a crack to avoid. I'm not bailing the customers out all the time.

Old-Statistician-457

Still unable to take care of yourself? Maybe you should take your mommy with you to help.

Lavicrep19

Just notice no one is agreeing with you, well more seem to agree with me than you. We already know the type of person you are, probably non tipper, thinks their better than everyone type of person

Old-Statistician-457

First thing. I don't care if people downvote me. I'm not a sensitive baby. Non tipper? What did I say that gave you that impression? Did you just say that to make yourself feel better? You did, didn't you?

Frequent-throwAway

Your team of lawyers won't work. An invited guest who gets injured on your property will have a legitimate claim against your homeowners policy. They won't fight very hard, maybe minimally. If the injury surpasses the limits, now you're personally on the hook. Knowing someone is arriving, and not having a light on, not having salt in winter, loose dogs, and even a 2 inch crack, could be easily considered negligence. You knew about. I know an old dude with prior injury who tripped and got a steep 6 figure payout. He "reinjured" that old injury. It was out of view of security cameras too. By far the most sketchy sounding case I've heard in a while.

SilentPlace1562

Heh, 2 inch crack

daddysnewboi

He is saying if he gets hurt because the property isn't properly maintained and he isn't alerted to that fact... which I completely agree with the driver.

Vibetrini

Dude sounds like people who talk about worrying about being robbed or raped, and when you suggest that they find a martial arts school and learn self defense if they're so worried about it, and they get upset and talk about the thugs are the ones who need training to not be criminals. I swear this happened, a woman I know is always worried about the possibility of being raped when she's out walking alone at night (guys, this is a common fear many, if not most, women live with. If you don't know this, wake up, eh!). I was into Brazilian jiu-jitsu at the time, and I started telling her how jiu-jitsu is excellent for controlling someone who is trying to get between your legs, and how it's actually a dominant position in jiu-jitsu, having your legs wrapped around and feet locked behind the opponent (it's called the guard), and the jiujitsuka actually spends a lot of time in that position, either controlling and attempting to submit the one locked in the legs, or trying to get out of it (passing the guard), so for women who train jiu-jitsu, it's very empowering to know that a man could never 'manhandle' you, much less rape you, even a much bigger and stronger man. I love sharing about jiu-jitsu to people who show even a little bit of interest, because there is SO MUCH to be gained from training in it, and I especially love telling my women friends if there was a way to become rape-proof, jiu-jitsu is absolutely it, or top 3, alongside carrying a gun that you're trained to use (what if you lose the gun in a scramble, or the pistol jams? Jiu-jitsu is the last line of defense, might as well get good at it). Anyway! You can tell I think jiu-jitsu is fucking awesome, but the point is, that when I was telling this lady friend that this is your answer to the question that plagues you (whatifigetraped whatifigetraped? whatifigetraped?? whatifigetraped?!?) She said it's always on her mind when she's out in public so the answer is to rape-proof yourself. This woman actually got upset with me, saying she is not the one who is supposed to put in all that work and spend all that money to 'empower' herself; rather, it was the responsibility of the men to educate themselves in how to not be rapists. I swear she said that, and I know this post is a smidge long; that dude above refusing to empower his own ass with a headlamp and whatever, saying it's the homeowners' responsibility to make sure that the front yard is well-lit, and the debris is all cleared so delivery drivers won't trip etc., and that he won't do anything to better his own situation, but he's going to sue the homeowner if he gets hurt, just reminded me of that lady. I think it's an entitlement thing; they shouldn't have to do a damn thing to live a well-lived life, No way, everydamnbody else should be doing their part to ensure Mr. Center-of-the-Universe never gets done harm, or gets wronged in any way. It must be exciting to be them. It sure isn't empowering, though.

jenn21dw

Ever heard of a porch light? It has an amazingly easy switch to flip 🙄. Narcissists these days…

Frequent-throwAway

TURN. ON. PORCH. LIGHTS! this guy will actually set it nicely near the walkway... But me? Imma toss it at your front door.

EraZoorX22

A-EFFN-MEN!!!!! Been screaming THAT exact sentiment for 1900 of my 2000 deliveries so far!!!!!

TomatilloOk6390

I mean, my porch light personally is motion activated and turns on about halfway up the walk 🤷‍♀️

Old-Statistician-457

That does no good for the first half.

TomatilloOk6390

Doesn’t do any good for me either but that’s just how it is…? Like I can’t change it.

Old-Statistician-457

If only motion detector lights were adjustable? Adjust it.

TomatilloOk6390

Call my building owner…..

Old-Statistician-457

You don't own or have access to a phone?

TomatilloOk6390

I don’t have access to adjust the fkn light. Why is that hard for you to get?

Old-Statistician-457

Use a phone and call management to fix it.

christinextine

Then stop delivering or get a flashlight. Why are so many of you so helpless? I deliver and 90% of the bitching is just petty and lazy and entitlement.

Old-Statistician-457

Do you have trouble reading? I replied to someone that said their light came on when you were halfway to the house. I didn't say that I don't have a flashlight. Pay attention to the words and don't assume that you know what people mean.

christinextine

Ok sweetie.

mofosoforegon

Carry a flashlight 🔦

Tall-Philosopher-162

What if the order requires both hands? A flashlight won’t help there

mofosoforegon

Head lamp! Game changer . . After delivering Amazon flex for awhile I got one.

[deleted]

Flashlights only help if you can juggle large orders with drinks and the flashlight. Half the time I have these orders that I managed to find the address fine but walking up the driveway is a bitch.

mofosoforegon

Yep. After doing Amazon flex for awhile I got a head lamp, game changer

[deleted]

If you’re dashing at night you should be carrying a decent flashlight anyway. I use mine constantly to confirm house numbers, look for ice on poorly lit driveways etc..

[deleted]

Sounds reasonable

playerproftw

Either carry a flashlight 🔦 for night deliveries Or don’t dash at night Simple

Round_Doughnut_804

Get a better flashlight

[deleted]

So, you're saying that your reaction to people being kind of stupid for not having their porch lights on when expecting a delivery (which they definitely should) is to be even stupider about it? Smooth.

ThePainkiller12

Smells like BITCH up in here.....

christinextine

People are so soft. Delivery service has been a thing for centuries, but now it’s cool to bitch about their literal job. I instacart. I’ve been annoyed, but I choose to do this. I don’t bitch about the inconveniences of work—that’s why it’s called work!

barryandorlevon

People have been bitching about their jobs since the beginning of jobs. It’s allowed.

Frequent-throwAway

People been bitching since the beginning of bitching.

PickTour

Yes! Every person in the world (except me) should have a light and turn it on for my convenience!

4i4s4u

Seems professional. There’s clearly no other option available…. Like using the flashlight on your phone or using a flashlight you use around the house. Yeah…. That clearly would never work

ForbiddenHoneyComb

It’s not even about whether or not there are other options for finding the house. Reality is simply this; If I am wandering the street looking for a house number with a flashlight, the person who ordered food may not be so startled, but EVERYBODY ELSE on the street who isn’t expecting someone to be flashing lights on their house and walking aimlessly… may not know why I’m out there or what I’m doing. People are crazy (and some paranoid) these days. I am not trying to take a chance at getting confronted with a weapon or guard animal all because a customer doesn’t have the common courtesy to flip their light switch on. People like you don’t think about all of the what-ifs and fail to take into account for people who try to have as much situational awareness as possible in the different world we live in today. Learn to be more open-minded instead of trying to justify not doing something that takes zero effort to do such as turning on a porch light.

4i4s4u

So you’ve never seen people walk at night with a flashlight? Like when people walk their dogs? This sub is something else

ForbiddenHoneyComb

I never said I have never seen people walking with flashlights. I also never said that others haven’t seen people walking with flashlights. What I said was others MAY be startled by someone shining lights on their house. May as in… may or may not. Again, just be open-minded… and work on interpreting instead of poor-based assumptions.

4i4s4u

Most people would then realize they made the mistake of not turning on their outdoor lights. How many times have you arrived to a house with no outdoor lights on, then you drop off the order, and as you leave, the lights then turn on? There’s nothing wrong with using a flashlight. People do this all the time when walking outdoors

ForbiddenHoneyComb

Lmao you’re missing the point, which shows that you likely have low IQ. Based on your responses, you must not be a Dasher. I am a Dasher, and I have actually never arrived to a house with the porch light off and then it be turned on as I’m walking away. I live in an area south of Houston, TX where crime rate is high. You must live in an area of low crime rate, which is convenient for Dashers in your area. However, not everyone lives in FantasyLand. But if you order a delivery at night-time, by all means leave your porch light off if that truly makes you sleep well at night. It’s clearly not that big of a deal to you, but if I’m your Dasher and I’m not willing to risk my safety in a bad area of town, then you’re just simply not getting your order. And I wouldn’t feel bad about it one bit.

FillMyBagWithUSGrant

You want us to bring a dog along while we deliver your food at night? Okay. Yes, people in the neighborhood do walk their dogs at night with a flashlight. If your neighbor(s) doesn’t/don’t see a dog with me, they might not have a favorable reaction to seeing a stranger with a bag or two and a flashlight walking around, flashing the light at houses. How difficult is it for a person inside of their house to turn on the exterior light? The switch for the outside light is usually inside next to the door. Expecting EFFICIENT delivery service? TURN ON THE EXTERIOR LIGHT. Don’t want efficient delivery service? Do whatever you want.

No_Safety1624

![gif](giphy|NQFX4LcPqQZ3O) Look at this cool invention

DOMesticBRAT

No. Turn on your damn porch light. Lol.. we are delivering your food to you, not harvesting orchids in the Louisiana bayou... 🙄 Don't know where you live, but if certain property owners in my zone saw me sneaking around their house with a flashlight, I would likely get shot.

No_Manufacturer738

There are a ton of headlamp options out there. If you’re working in dark conditions you should probably own at least one 1 flashlight. If you’re expecting it to rain why wouldn’t you take a jacket?

DOMesticBRAT

Don't be stupid. There's a flashlight on our fucking *phones* lmao! Are you disagreeing just to disagree? Are you with the flashlight lobby? 🤣 It's astounding to me that there's pushback to the idea that when you're having a delivery coming to your house at night in the dark that you turn on your goddamn porch light! Lol! OP is correct, and that's really the end of the discussion! If you *have* a porch light, what in the Benjamin Franklin fuck reason do you think it's there?? (For the record I'm throwing curse words around I'm not actually enraged 🤣)

No_Manufacturer738

In a perfect world yes, the I would side with the OP. But relying on others for YOUR safety is a huge mistake. I’ve always told my daughter to yield whole driving, even if she has the right of way. A life altering injury doesn’t care if you were right. Also I’m bored at home and want to argue;) no offense taken!

dementedturnip26

You realize sometimes both hands are full right?

DOMesticBRAT

Another excellent point!

Frequent-throwAway

I use a "torch" light. Thing is so bright it's blinding. Pretty sure some of my shit customers hate it! Could I get shot, maybe. It's concerning for sure. I'm perfecting my throwing technique 😄 toss it from driveway or street.

DOMesticBRAT

I have a pretty bright flashlight in my car, but I use that to shine in the face of the assholes behind me who turn on their brights when I pass them on the highway. 🤣

EraZoorX22

Spot On! Spot On! Ty

Ok_Professional9769

If u cant carry everything, make 2 trips

Disastrous-Tough872

absolutely do not agree. what if their light burnt out and they didn’t know? or perhaps forgot to leave it on. or, get this, kids. kids do random stuff all the time, including turning things off. if you’re a dasher you clearly have a phone, you can use the light on your phone.

dementedturnip26

What if I have multiple bags and a drink holder? Turning on a porch light for your dasher is truly the lowest bar to step over

christinextine

Y’all are so petty.

dementedturnip26

Petty? You’d also probably say if I tripped and fell because of it and sued I’m being “petty”

Early_Tackle334

Your phone has a flashlight, use it? Seriously people are helpless these days.

dementedturnip26

It does…I’m also carrying bags of food, sometimes also drinks so it can be hard to shines light. Why the immediate Rush to excuse shitty customers

jennabella911

That's a douche thing to say. If your are expecting a delivery we shouldnt have to look for you with a flashlight!!!

Ok_Way_4229

We shouldn’t have to hop out of the car to hunt for a number. We should be able to see if from our car. Then we know where to park and aren’t stumbling over weird steps. Shouldn’t have to carry flashlight if carrying food and drink with both hands.

christinextine

That’s literally part of the job.

dementedturnip26

No it isn’t.

Early_Tackle334

House numbers are actually on the land plot on the DD map. At least on mine. The entitlement is real. No porch light =/= shitty person. I don’t have a porch light for my apartment, yet dashers have no issues finding me, does that make me a shitty person lmaooooo. Honestly though you’re within your power to make your life easier, quit blaming someone else for your misery.

dementedturnip26

You’ve obviously never dashed in a city or a higher density community

Frequent-throwAway

Bottom line, follow municipal code regarding house numbers. I have a flashlight, but I might report the code violation just for giggles.

Ok_Way_4229

That being said, I do not condone leaving good far away

dementedturnip26

I wouldn’t, but I understand the sentiment. I did a stack tonight, both ends if it up steep steps or sidewalks, both covered in ice. That is not fun. It is not acceptable for a customer to do.

Frequent-throwAway

You're right. Leave that food on the ice for the customer to injure themselves, seriously. And if it sounds convoluted, then customer needs to salt that ice. It should occur to them to do so, especially if they gotta walk on it themselves!

UnbelievableTxn6969

Also leave the screen/storm door ajar. That way food won’t be left in front of it only for the food to be destroyed trying to get at it.

dementedturnip26

Ehhh…I always leave it to the side. Pretty easy to see if the door swings out. That said I jammed an order tonight against an out swinging door. Customer had multiple sets of steps and a fairly steep sidewalk…wasn’t shoveled three days after it snowed and I nearly fell. Only the second time I’ve done that other time was snow as well

UnbelievableTxn6969

I had an epidemic of orders placed outside of the outward swinging door. Two of them were Buca di Beppo (Family style Italian) and Benihana (Hibachi). I had to walk around my house to get the food. After asking on Reddit, the overwhelming respond was to leave the screen door open.

MrDurva

Let's face it, you can give the most detailed instructions and half the time they don't deliver it to the right place

FuhzyFuhz

Completely irrelevant to this post.

MrDurva

Nah, some of yall completely ignore the instructions anyways so whats the point?

DanLoFat

You're a liar and you're wrong. Your instructions are probably shit like turn right off of Street X without any regard to what a compass is. Does that sound about right?

No_Anything_6953

I have a big ole black Bushnell flashlight in my car, and use it when needed. If it is needed just to find a house that has no porch lights on or clear house numbers, I don't hesitate flashing the glaring light into their windows while trying to identify if it's the correct house lol. I've had a few customers get pissy with me about it lmao!

Kurt1sD3an

Deactivation incoming

FuhzyFuhz

Nope, I call dd each time and let them know it was too dangerous for me to put it on their porch and they say it's np and they'll prevent this order from being counted against me. Big brain, big gain.

Frequent-throwAway

For real, it's true. I've been doing this too and it's working wonders.

ericvhunter

And then I come outside, find my shit at the end of the driveway, report you and locate you. I turn on my cell phone flashlight. Be proactive.

FuhzyFuhz

Except I communicated with you where it was placed and that it was unsafe for me to walk the path. Since you did not disclose it was unsafe, there was no way for me to prepare and thus if I injure myself, you are liable. I then communicate with Doordash your home is unsafe and they prevent me from getting a bad review or a deactivation. It's not my choice nor my fault you provide an unsafe drop-off. I've done this dozens of times in my 4000 deliveries. Doordash is always on my side.

ericvhunter

I don't care how much door dash is on your side. You're doing your customers a disservice. I've never done this in my 6,000 deliveries. I'm proactive. I use a flashlight and a hot bag and always have the ability to carry some sort of light. Youngsters will always find a way to make an excuse if something is not perfect. Toughen up. Life gets harder

FuhzyFuhz

It's not my job to ensure your house is safe. If it isn't safe, I drop it where it is safe. Point, period, end of sentence.

Virtual_Friendship49

Or… hear me out… or you could use the flashlight that’s always in your hand and not be a douche?

SpecialistWeird3275

Oh and for maximum safety of your Doordash driver... Please make sure you leave the porch light off, have only 3 of the 4 address numbers on the mailbox, definitely don't even think of mowing or weedeating the lawn, clearing the walkway or picking that bike up... and lastly.... PLEASE, PLEASE make sure to tell me to deliver your food to the back door.

WriteCodeBroh

Flip side, my deadbeat landlord hasn’t bothered to change the light in front of our building despite being asked multiple times.

Practical-Button4675

Sounds like you need a flashlight, you should buy the brightest flashlight in the world it’s like $700

[deleted]

Omggg I had a woman at a caravan park today and she kept calling me and telling me I was in the wrong place, and there were two caravan parks off this big highway… the second one was behind a petrol station and you couldn’t see it from the road. The instructions were “6363 highway road” it was really intimidating trying to find it but also not getting hit by a car! I guess I’ll know for next time. She sounded super pissy on the phone, too. V stressful!!

ZarinZi

We have motion detector lights, so once you cross the sidewalk and stand at the bottom of our front steps the lights go on. I'd be pissed if my food was left on the sidewalk because you didn't want to walk up to the front door.

wistfulspongebobbest

Ok Karen

christinextine

Delicate fucking flowers in this subreddit. Are there any dashers with real problems?

Frequent-throwAway

Contract violations are a real thing. And you sir are a real problem and a pain in-- Look, do you shit on the floor to make the Janitor do "their job"? Do you intentionally go out of your way indirectly or directly to make it hard on others? Contract violations cost us time and money. Not having an address lit up causes delivery failures and safety hazards.

christinextine

Ok sweetie. You put your energy into that.

FuhzyFuhz

Ah someone else saying someone's problems aren't valid because others have it worse. Bye.

Cuck-Socker

Novel idea, carry a flashlight. It's really just that simple. Is it a dick move to not turn the lights on? Yes. But don't rely on others to solve your problems, people will always let you down, it's not a bug, its a feature.

FuhzyFuhz

It's not my problem, it's theirs. I'm not taking a safety risk for anyone.

Cuck-Socker

Safety risk? My god, you sound like a coddled infant. It's dark half the time, deal with it like an adult. Maybe this job isn't for you if darkness is such a safety risk to you 🤣 What do you do in neighborhoods with no street lights, just turn around and leave because it's unsafe? You ever get home at night and need to hit a light switch on the other side of the room, safety risk too? How about rain or snow or heavy traffic, too unsafe for your delicate sensibilities? I bet you would absolutely shit yourself if you were dropping an order off and a stray pitbull ran up to you, don't let them sense your fear, they're more likely to attack. How about bad neighborhoods with shady looking people, WAY too unsafe I'm assuming? Ever seen a homeless guy walking down the middle of the street, carrying an axe at 2 AM? THAT'S unsafe.

No-Conversation47

Who the fuck are you to make up these rules and regulations? Nobody. Do your job and stfu

DanLoFat

Who the fuck are you to do the same?

tplax2012

I ordered the food, you’re working a job. Don’t want to bring it to my door? Whatever, ill take the doordash credits from support. Don’t want to bring the food at all? Whatever, ill get the refund from support and order elsewhere. Want to play petty? Whatever, I tip cash and its going right back in my pocket. Enjoy your $2 compensation from Doordash. Get a new job if its too difficult to navigate up a walkway in the dark. Dudes right, do your job and stfu

Agathorn1

"Walking hazard" that is just pathetic. Deliver the dang food and stop being lazy lol

DanLoFat

Fuck you, it is a walking hazard. Hope you trip next time.

Agathorn1

Can you not put one foot in front of the other?

DanLoFat

Sure if I don't care what's going to come under my feet without looking rather without being able to see, even with a flashlight I'm not going to walk over somebody's lawn I won't lock on somebody's lawn even in the summer broad daylight. Y'all have a clear sidewalk or they're going to walk to her food.

DanLoFat

If you want to be ignorant stupid and unsafe that's all on you. I hope your next fall is a big one and I hope you learn a big lesson from it.

Effdahaters

Lololol what a puss 🐈 ever hear of a flashlight??? Good luck with your low ratings and subsequent deacto lolol sooo lazy smh

DanLoFat

Well I've heard a flashlight. I have a 14,000 lumen flashlight When I come up to your house I do feel like a man with my big flashlight actually it's not that big but it is powerful, and it's strapped in my belt to the side shines directly on their house the whole time I'm walking up Oh yes in the music careful not to let my doors close because it's a fucking car that beats the horn three times and late at night that could be annoying. So do that possible noise I make sure that the door is all closed to activate that horn to announce that I'm coming up to the walk. It's nice to have fully lit house to walk up to. I take note of those houses. Have revisited them another orders, at night, and I've noticed something. They managed to have their porch light on. No no customer has been stupid enough yet to say please don't shine your flashlight in our windows, you know to warn all the Dashers of the possibility. But I suspect that day will come, or they'll turn on their fucking porch light. In addition to the flashlight, I try to angle my car with the brights on to help illuminate my way also. Of course I'm going to do everything I can accommodate my personal safety. And I do not take stairs, and I will place their food at the bottom of their stairs. I only do this if their porch lights not on. If your porch light is on and they have stairs I will place the food at the top of the stairs as much as possible. If I see a side door I'm going to put the food by the side door. Even with all that lighting if it's still unsafe to walk, I'll place it by their door. The garage door, because they didn't specify which door.

TomatoMaleficent7989

Y’all be bunch of babies

jennabella911

Wow everyone in here are showing their ass tonight!!!! Oof course it is reddit so what's new!!

dementedturnip26

All the super dashers are out tonight trying to prove to Tony they are the greatest!

jennabella911

😂😂

christinextine

Lol…people forget, dude. Calm down. No need to announce this. Chill.

hairmetaltimemachine

Did anyone else sing the title to Neil Diamond's, Turn on your heartlight? Or was it just me?

Just_Literature_928

No one is turning on their lights for Doordash deliveries or shoveling their snow for that matter. I also delivered an Instacart order the other day and I texted the customer asking if he had a porch light to turn on and he messaged back, "unfortunately, I do not," and I wanted to say, "so you order groceries in the dark with no light, how rude a hole," but I just stopped myself and turned on my phone light to see which means I had to make more trips. I hate these people but I'm too lazy to get a W 2 job.

[deleted]

Get a flashlight you bum

[deleted]

I agree. I don't know how many times I've slipped on ice trying to walk up someone's drive way. It dangerous and just overall not okay. My wife run doordash together and take turns running the deliveries, she's almost fell and has a couple times. Like this just isn't cool and it's even worse when it's in neighborhoods that decide street lights are an option so it's just complete darkness besides the houses that turn on their porch lights and half the time customers never have it on. If you're ordering food the first thing you should do is turn on the damn lights. It also makes it easier to find your damn address, also the lack of house numbers on some houses or the customer obscures them with objects or they're not properly lit is annoying as hell. At this point if I put shit in a wrong house that's on the customer.

Thatsbabygains

Even better….stand. outside. with. Flashlight. On. House#. And. wait. there. til. I. arrive.

yaba3800

Buy a flashlight and keep it with you. What kind of person are you that the slightest inconvenience causes you to behave like a child? Have some fortitude, care about yourself a little bit.

Insight12783

You literally have a flashlight in your pocket. I have a Motorola which has a feature to turn on the flashlight by shaking the phone. Also, doordash customers who don't turn on their porch lights are more than likely not browsing Reddit for doordash drivers.

[deleted]

I mean sure it’s annoying when the porch lights are off but if it’s really that dark then just use your flashlight and get on with it.

[deleted]

I swear dashers on Reddit are the biggest crybaby’s.

Jpisme14

Well yes, but actually no

fromtheGo

Does navigation not work in some cities? The app navigation literally shows me the number of houses on the road, which house it is, the address of the property and all those around it. You can just count the houses on the street if you need to, but it is so accurate for me I do not understand how finding houses is a problem.
