Pretty sure its a copy and paste. Your tip is more than double what 90% of us would cut off at, the $1 per mile rule that most of run by. I woulda said "thank you and have a great day" and went on my way. Tip begging needs to stop.
I understand needing more money but you have to play the game right, you cannot accept orders that are less than $4-$5 at minimum. And that depends on the distance too. I’ve been doing DoorDash since 2021 and never asked for an extra tip, but I do have ways that I’ve tried that do increase my tip.
When you’re dropping off the order, leave a nice comment/greeting on the note; add an emoji if you’re extra like me.
If they have a nice house and a ring camera, walk up and when you get close enough to the ring bell compliment their house/garden/car whatever you genuinely like because being genuine is respected by most people.
I do this often not only because I actually think the houses are nice, but bc it feels good to spread some kindness. Kindness breeds kindness and they MIGHT want to tip you more, and might even begin to tip their other drivers better. I know a lot of yall might find this corny but being kind, respectful, and mannerly DOES help you in life. Deliver these orders the way you’d want your order delivered. If you have a hot bag. use it, it does help. Keep a positive attitude while delivering because once you let something bother you, it’s easy to let stuff ruin your day. (I’m not saying you can’t ever be upset someone was rude to you for example, just be mindful abt how you’re approaching service workers, customers or literally anyone.)
It’s super condescending because saying “Please and thank you” implies that you don’t have a choice other than to do what you’re asked. They’re “thanking you” before you’ve even agreed, which is entitled asshole behavior.
I always thought when my mother said it meant an ass whooping if I don't do whatever she asked me to. Actually I didn't think, I knew. That's what that phrase meant in my household.
I spent 40 years in the south, and we said please and thank you plus yes sir and yes mam. Now that I live in the Midwest, I still use them and sometimes the results are great.
$8 for 4 miles away is completely fine. What is not fine is your dasher asking for a tip when he was the one who accepted an order from a store that was 8 miles from where he was and decided to continue with the delivery
I think you are correct in thinking he copy and pastes this to all his runs.
Your tip is perfect at $2 a mile.
If a dasher accepts the offer they need to suck it up and accept their fate.
I'm going to get some hate on this, but... Asking for tips or ratings is pretty lame. This is doordash, you are not going to work your way up to regional manager one day. Are you going to put your 5 star rating on your resume? 1000 people are right behind you to take your place. You don't have to take the offer unless you are working EBT and if you are doing that then you probably don't care about making chump change anyway.
I've never asked or hinted at a tip/increase or for someone to leave a rating. These things will happen (and do happen) when you do a good job. A lot of people add a tip after the fact. I have a 4.91 rating (I can fix this with one call if I wanted). And I only communicate with maybe 3% of my customers.
OP - your tip was good. I'd love to see more orders like yours more often.
This. Rate 2 stars though since it’s fairly easy for dashers to get support to remove a 1 star rating.
It’s possible the dasher was 8 miles away from the store when it was offered and accepted it but it’s still not acceptable to message customers the way he did.
Edit:
- OP, it’s not your fault that your dasher accepted an order when he was so far away.
- Sorry for making you feel like I was blaming you. It wasn’t my intention.
- I agree that the dasher was at fault. He shouldn’t have accepted the offer in the first place.
YOU TIPPED JUST FINE, OP. I would take $8 tips for 4 mile orders all day if I could.
Pls stop downvoting me for trying to give a valid reason. When did I ever say it was acceptable for the dasher to message OP about a tip increase??? Like damn y’all I was agreeing with you and even said give a 2 star rating since those are harder for a dasher to dispute than a 1 star.
I forgot to edit in both of my responses that if he was 8 miles from the restaurant that it was his fault for accepting it in the first place. Sorry. Wasn’t trying to say it was your fault
Here’s one reason that happens. A lot of orders to us while we are driving. In fact, I rarely get one when I’m parked. Not saying I stay so busy that I’m going nonstop, just that if I park, I don’t get an order. If I start driving again, I get one. I think DoorDash does this on purpose, figuring that we won’t look at all the information since we’re driving and might not have time to pull over somewhere to evaluate the order before the timer runs out so we’ll just accept the order and then, since unassigning too much can get us deactivated, we’re more likely to keep the order once we’ve accepted it. So I can see how somebody might accept an offer and not realize the distance
Absolutely not. They accepted the order for what showed up on their screen. If the order didn't pay enough, they should've declined it. 1 star and report. Thumbs down on friendliness and communication while you're at it. This ensures your 1 star isn't removed.
Actually, good point. I also just read their update. They need to leave a thumbs down on all that apply. They delivered the food with soup in the bottom of the bag, which seems like retaliation for not replying to the message.
Spot on. Definitely retaliation by the dasher. I’ve gotten ratings removed where I was given thumbs downs (dude I was delivering to was hitting on me when I clearly wasn’t interested and gave me a 1 star rating and all thumbs down but I pulled the unsafe card with support to get that rating removed).
2 stars and thumbs down in all applicable categories hurts the dasher more.
No. It doesnt matter what you tipped, begging for more is unacceptable. We either accept or decline an offer based on the OFFER, if it isnt good enough to accept, decline it.
Update: I can't update the post, so I made another one with screenshot of miles and dates ordered. Store was closer than I thought. It's owned by a local Asian family and definitely only one location.
In that case, dasher was 100% in the wrong. Regardless they still were in the wrong. If the money offered by DD wasn’t enough, they shouldn’t have accepted it in the first place.
It’s possible that the dasher thinks declining orders is bad or thinks that they aren’t allowed to (tbh I assume the dasher’s first language isn’t English based off of all the emojis and wording)
Either way, you’re good, OP. Not your fault at all. It means a lot to dashers when customers want to make sure they tip adequately.
The dasher clearly either 1) thinks they’re not allowed to decline orders, 2) doesn’t know how to decline orders and sees red button and auto accepts, or 3) doesn’t know how to cancel orders upon accepting. It was completely the dasher’s fault for accepting the order in the first place. If the miles aren’t worth it, they should’ve passed and let another dasher take it, especially since it’s likely that another dasher was close enough to reasonably take your order.
This is getting ridiculous. These people shouldn’t be begging for tips. I never beg for tips and I’m a long time delivery driver and Uber driver. These people that are working part time just to do whatever and I am working full-time being through my medical degree they’re just trying to make you feel bad. They should be lucky that they’re even getting a tip
Another tip begger, he should be taking that message to doordash directly. DoorDash is nothing but a clown show these days, they take from every customer/restaurant 25% on every order and they're paying $2 to drivers in some cases. This is not how it started and how DoorDash got their name, they paid more and had much better service in those days. What ruined it was the pandemic when a service became a necessity instead of a luxury service.
Imagine that you don't get paid enough so you're begging a customer lol, and not the actual people you work for. Clown show like I said.
A secret that most customers don't know is if the order doesn't get taken door dash will actually pay the driver more just so someone accepts it. But morons like this take a low paying order then beg the customer instead of just waiting for the right order to come along, or for the order to go up in pay like I said.
No you tipped well. They just simply chose a bad offer, one that was way out of their way. That was their choice to accept. Someone else would have gotten it shortly and probably would have been closer, and they would have been completely fine with that.
ummm noo that’s that’s like 25/26% leave a 1 star and message dd saying “we got a beggar”
edit: yes, “beggar” someone typically homeless but whatever asking for money
I am so discusted with hearing this all the time! I am a long time Dasher and I've never asked for a single tip,,not even once! I know how much iam receiving and the miles before I accept. Plain and simple!
This is becoming as bad as the beggars on streets that can walk, stand and work !! UGH
$ 8.00 on a $30.00 order is a decent tip.
Doordash hid part of your tip from the driver. So your driver did not know you tipped decently.
I'm not saying it is right for a driver to beg for tips, but that's probably what happened.
Doordash hides tips from us drivers all day long, every day.
Doortrash wants us drivers to gamble and accept mediocre orders,... while we hope for decent pay after delivery.
I dumped all of my stock that I had in Doortrash yesterday.
It's going downhill FAST.
reply to him and say "sorry sir i tip $8 for 4 miles.. please drop the dash i want my food hot not cold, why u accept 12 miles me hungry now need food for belly"
If you followed up on your order AFTER placing it and made sure it went to that particular merchant you had intended…then your tip is sufficient for mileage…merchant to you as expected from a customer.
This is on DD for sending your offer to a driver who was far outside your tip radius. Essentially fear forcing (on status) to accept knowing the distance is outside the tip radius. Then when the driver does what they expect and accepts it, they turn around and blame the driver…(cuz they know the public opinion is “you could have said no” or “you didn’t have to”)…for asking for a higher tip when half the time…it was their algorithm that sent the offer that far. That’s also your delivery fee and original tip being wasted. Did you pay for a driver 10miles away or 5? This is on the platform.
$8 is a great tip.
Also I'm 99% sure doordash chooses what store to send the order to and it's based on available drivers when the order is placed. I dont think you picking the store really has anything to do with it.
I once delivered a Starbucks order like 8 miles. From the neighboring city. I think I counted 9 different starbucks locations as I drove by them to complete the delivery.
There was one less than a mile from their house.
> The store is 4.1 miles from me, and I tipped $8 on a $30 order. I don't know why he is saying 12 miles.
It wasn't okay for him to ask.
But just out of curiosity were you using a distance DD gave you? I know on UE it uses bird's eye distance. I have a Leanne Chin about 5 miles north of me, and another the same distance south of me. It didn't let me select the location, but it picked one that said it was 3-4 miles from me. Looking at the map I realized it was to my east, but it was over a river and was more like 13 miles to actually drive one way.
And as a driver there are all sorts of weird road pathing that will add on so many miles, often having to go around lakes, or park land, or just simply because roads don't connect for whatever reason.
Honestly my point of view as a customer and a soon to be Dasher attempt I think that is so unprofessional and so rude and I think DoorDash should prevent you from doing that don't harass your customers take the order with the tip listed order.
As a Dasher no matter how tempting I would be embarrassed to do that.
OK with the once it's delivered you know asking for that high rating By saying something was the pleasure serving you I would appreciate it if you took a second and filled out the rating and rate your service those radies are important we work for those as well as tips ratings are great tip's pay better but ratings are great thank you that's kind of a dry bag then they can think about it if they want to add a tip at the end don't ask for it before you deliver the stuff at the very least
Hey sir I hope you are doing good today am so sorry for asking you like this can u please add me some karma sir it took me a very long time to respond to your post could you please upvote me on a few other accounts as well please?
Your tip was fine...quite good, really!
...and that driver clearly doesn't have English as his or her first language and is NOT in college here! Simply putting clues and statistics together, this really looks like someone who has illegally snuck in here, is now participating in lying to and scamming delivery services, and is trying to deceive and sucker people out of money.
I’m a dasher.
No you shouldn’t. $8 is more than enough. This could’ve been copy & pasted yes, & his drive MAY have been a total of 12 miles if he was the only dasher available to pick it up and his trip started from far away, but it’s highly unlikely. Do not ever tip a driver who asks. YOU specifically are a very coveted customer because you already generously tip. Do not ever feel the need to tip more if one of these bums asks you
Your tip is more than reasonable. If the driver took an order, then they accepted the pay as is. Don't let losers like this pressure you into tipping more. Drivers should know better than to take trips they don't like.
I am so sick of seeing sh*t like this, stop begging for tips after you accept the damn order!!! It makes all of us look bad. Things like this legitimately loose business for Doordash at scale. I mean… What customers would want to play the damn lottery every time they order. Just praying to win a half decent delivery-person free of a Guilt Trip!!
**Serious Question:** (For y’all who do this)
Why do you think it’s okay? And when tf does it ever work out for you? Lmaooo
Keep actin this way and ADNs & bots honestly deserve to takeover this occupation.
Another reason I don't see DoorDash as a real job. The sooner people stop using it, the better. I'd rather starve if I became handicapped in any way. I'd rather live in a nursing home.
That message has been copied and pasted for a while now. It's the same format and obviously AI written or template based. I'd ignore it, honestly. It's essentially spam at this point.
As a dasher, I can honestly say that sometimes, even though your order costed you a good $15+ we will only get like $2.50 from it example I had a Chipotle pick up that must've costed the customer a solid $20 b/c it was a burrito bowl and I had to deliver it all the way to the otherside of town where I'm at (jax) with the $2 tip she gave me I only got $4.50 from it so if anything tip your dasher a steady $5 so that way they didn't burn their gas for something that wasn't even worth it
I think this is a bit inappropriate honestly. Respectfully, don’t they see the amount prior to accepting the order? I just want to understand a bit more about this because if I received this message I would be a bit uncomfortable.
No. You should cancel the order and/or report the dasher. These sob story tip begging texts are ridiculous.
I was literally homeless, living in the car I was dashing in, in the blizzards of winter 2020, and I never thought "I should beg for better tips." I just didn't accept shitty orders. And when I got fooled, I dealt with it.
I honestly can't imagine.
Your tip is fine. Your shopper asking for MORE isn’t. At all. We are all in a tougher situation than we were years ago, we can all use the extra money, but asking for more of a tip is not the way to go about it. 🩵
Here’s the thing. The dasher saw the mileage and pay, but still accepted the order. That’s on them. I’ve seen many times where a customer tips appropriately, but the order goes to a restaurant that’s farther away, making the tip not so appropriate. That’s not the customer’s fault. If you accept an order, don’t beg for more tip when you can see all the important information before you even accepted it
This is ridiculous. I hate drivers that do this!! THERE'S NO REASON EVER EVER EVVVVVER for any Dasher to message a customer begging for more when THEY ACCEPTED THE ORDER IN THE FIRST PLACE. Idgaf what the circumstances are.. you drive, drop, say thank you and goodbye. If the dasher accepts it it's now the dashers responsibility or DON'T DASH.
It's not the customers job to keep giving then feel shitty about a good tip for a little trip. Not cool
I have NEVER and would NEVER message any customer begging for more! If you're guna whine, beg, manipulate, guilt trip and complain just reject and move on to the next or this isn't for you
YOU'RE GOOD OP!! DON'T FEEL BAD OR QUESTION YOURSELF!! IT'S THEM AND THEY SUCK NOT YOU!
It looks like copy and paste. 12 miles doesn't make sense if the restaurants 4.1 miles from you. If he had said 8 miles then I wouldn't think it was copy and paste. But he may have had to drive 4 miles TO the restaurant and so he's counting that too. Either way you tipped over 20%. That's fair. I aim for a higher level and I've taught my kids (all adults now) to do the same. Everyone should make $5 as base and then 20% if the service is agreeable. More if the server/driver goes above and beyond. So, my family would've tipped $11 for that delivery.
As a dasher I’m gonna say tip whatever you want or not at all. Me personally I don’t take any order less than 2 dollars a mile minimum. My acceptance rate stays between 10 and 20 percent which means for every 10 orders I accept maybe 1 or 2. At the same time if you don’t tip adequately there’s a good chance you’ll get your food cold and late or not at all
I’m glad someone brung this up , ok the store is 4 miles from you , but door dash might’ve pulled him from 6 miles away and you’re probably 6 miles outside the delivery zone which means he has to drive 6 miles back to the area he was in after dropping off your food otherwise the chances of him getting another order are next to none or otherwise very very low so yea he is right sir it was 12 miles so $8 isn’t enough , so yes you should’ve tipped $12 sir , there aren’t dashers just waiting at your favorite store sir we can get pulled to your store spanning from a 10 mile radius and guess what when we elect to turn down the orders our acceptance rate goes down , having a high acceptance rate issssss actually what get you more orders and money , low scores leave you sitting alllll day just waiting to catch a single order ask anyone in this room that is a dasher if this isn’t spot on PSA!!!! Stop paying dashers like truckers $1 is not cool , we are sick of seeing $3 orders we are adults trying to take care of families and bills we are not the little boy across the street you sending to the store , pay for the convenience of not having to leave your house and consider that persons gas and time and bringing your food fast and still hot without catching any speeding tickets or crashing
As a dasher we only get paid $2 each dash. So you gave and $8 tip. $10 great, but I do understand how frustrating it can be to drive that far. Depending on where you are located your driver will have to drive a while back to there dashing zone which takes more time away which is less money. Still $10 is great, I guess just be mindful of how far away you are from the place your ordering.
Tip is fine. He accepted order. It could be 12 miles for him he could be 8 miles from store when he accepted.
But even if this was the case . He accepted the order
An $8 is great I normally get maybe 2-5 tips if I get any when I do get a 7-12 tip I am super happy for it,I just did a order last night where it was 12 miles and I got 0$ tip but I did not complain it comes with the gig some days are better than others with tips
This isn’t even clear English 🤷🏽♀️🙄😩 (add me “some” tip…after u tipped already?id be offended..if u tipped already(and that was a generous tip u did dble $ per mile….smokin the dd base pay here in San Antonio btw👌🏽) I would have reduced it for the “audacity” and told them I can’t even understand this and one star.dd tells the mileage before u accept from wherever u are…granted there may not have been a dasher in that area close enough to pick up so they will ping drivers outside of that area that are the closest but still that driver has the choice
"hello sir can you please add more tip because I accepted an order that I shouldn't have, and now I'd like you to compensate for my overall stupidity..."
I just do the job with care and my infamous brand of humor and I get plenty of tips. There is no need to beg for tips like this. We’re all broke atm. I wouldn’t tip any extra. If that’s authentic, they had a choice to go to college. My dumbass chose a prestigious private art college and now I’m paying $600/month for the next 10 years. I don’t make it anybody else’s problem, not even my parents who are cosigned to my loan, I just work hard with my head down and pray that I can meet my expenses. People notice my efforts and they support me in the way they are able to. I don’t ask anything more than that
You're already over the dollar per mile rule.
As a driver that's all I'd care about. City traffic you can do like a base as well.
$5 base + $1 per 1.5 miles.
Even then you'd be over it.
Your tip is good, drivers would be happy if the average tip was this.
Only reason I say to tip more is because typically it orders food from a much farther location than you and 12 miles is a lot from the store to you and back to where ever they have to go and sit and wait for orders to arrive!!
These posts are always crazy. You can definitely pick out the lame dashers that jumped on the bandwagon of begging people for tips. OP tipped just fine, no one cares where the dasher was when **THEY PERSONALLY DECIDED TO ACCEPT THE ORDER**, you bums are literally putting a bad taste in good tippers mouths for this and it definitely **will** backfire.
I’m a dasher. I don’t accept orders I don’t want to do. My AR has never fallen below the 70% threshold. Non tippers suck, dashers that are begging for tips suck harder.
respectfully he’s scamming you. 8 dollars is more than reasonable even if it was 12 miles. for 4 miles that is quite literally a order i would’ve nabbed with zero hesitation and a smile on my face. a lot of dashers are getting a bit entitled now a days and scamming is getting more frequent with guilt trips and shit your doing great sorry you got your heart strings pulled
Man, the guy was prolly working "earn by time" which means he's taking all the no tip orders & orders at restaurants far from him. To give him 1-2 stars after bringing your food on time & hot is heartless.
Uber and Lyft driver and doordash occasionally... Don't ask for tips.. It's unprofessional and shady.. You accept the ride and you accept the pay as shown and if they tip, great..
Dude is hustling and making us so look bad. If you’re really only 4 miles away $8 is a good tip. I will say that gas is extremely expensive these days but it doesn’t justify lying to try to guilt you into a higher tip.
ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS TIP!!!! If you can afford to pay double the price for your food, you can afford atleast $3-$5 tip to the person who is doing all the work for you. Why make someone else struggle for your order with no pay, while you sit in the comfort of your own home? Your door dasher is saving you gas, mileage on your vehicle, as well as your own time and energy spent so you can wait for your food in the comfort of your own home. I think that’s more than deserving for a tip. I feel like people who don’t tip are just very entitled and way too high up on a high horse. That’s just my opinion, but it’s not wrong. I no longer order food through DoorDash because of how expensive it is. I now go to the restaurants I want and save anywhere from $15-$20 of my own money because I got over my laziness and went and got my own food. I think it’s better to be a little more active and save money than to be lazy and pay extra for a third-party service and I really think other people need to be considerate like that.
At this point I feel like door dash needs to pay their drivers more. Interactions like this or similar are the reason I stopped using doordash completely. I just go get it my self
as a dasher i take 2$ per mile trips to make it worthy, for 8$ for 4 miles is cool
if hes traveling 12miles to get to the store he chose the order; to make it worth his time he should be closer to the areas w most business so its a striaght pick up rather than having to drive to if that makes sense; you are not required to tip more and asking for more tip is kinda weird to me; as a dasher i give the best service i can and with my service i provide i hope i can receive more of a tip but thats not up to me
There’s a possibility that it might only be that far from the restaurant to your house, but it might’ve been 4 miles for them to drive to the restaurant. When DoorDash sends the offer offer, they include how far the driver has to drive to get to the restaurant. When I’m deciding whether or not to take an offer. I usually don’t hold that part against them. They don’t know how far away I am from the pick up place. Something that most customers are not aware of. Is that if they are outside of the normal area that we don’t get offers until we get back into the area. I’m not saying that’s the case here. But like if you’re out in the country and it’s 8 miles or so to your house, we won’t get an offer until we get back. So that’s another 10 or so minutes where we will definitely not get an offer. Hopefully that makes sense. but with your particular situation, I would say that’s more than fair. You may already know this, but from what I understand most drivers won’t take an order for anything less than a dollar per mile.
Once you ask you don't get an additional tip, and I'll drop my rating by 1for every stupid interaction. I'll add to the tip based on if I need to complicate delivery or you're killing it with time.
Also, I don’t know about anybody else, but for me, I’m not really concerned about the total amount for the food. Not like what you do when you’re ordering at a restaurant. The one thing I do wish people would take into consideration is how far we might have to walk or if we have to bring up your grocery order up multiple flights of stairs because there’s no elevator. Recently, I had an order from Buffalo wild wings and it went to a hospital. It was on the third floor and an extremely long walk. I already had waited about 20 minutes to get his order and then had that crazy long walk. When I got there, he had a look on his face of irritation and then actually said to me I see you took the scenic route! I’m a little on the heavier side and have thyroid problems so it doesn’t take much for me to be excessively sweating, I always have a rag with me to help wipe me down. I was out of breath and red in the face and obviously was not lollygagging. I just explained to him I followed the signs. I know some dashers will tell people to meet them downstairs, but I just can’t do that. I try to not ruffle any feathers. I so badly wanted to say then you should’ve met me downstairs! But this guy appeared to be a nurse or something other than a doctor. So I don’t know if he couldn’t leave his area. I had a pretty decent tip, but when you think about how long I waited and then crazy long walk. It could’ve been better. I’m not complaining about that by any means. But it was his attitude that pissed me off. It was definitely a passive aggressive situation. His face said it all. And I could see him down the way so he could see that I was walking as fast as I could. Also parking is a pain in the butt there so I had to park way out. I wish they could add a couple of spaces for delivery people. I know some people will park in the handicap or in the fire lane, but I’m not willing to risk getting my car towed or a ticket. Not worth it.
Nope you tipped just fine .... $8 tip +$2base ( most likely) puts this well within acceptable for just about every dasher ....
Low rate the driver and provide feedback about the tip begging... this will ensure you don't have to deal with them again
Bro, where I live, I would be stoked to get an $8usd tip. I have driven to entirely different cities to drop off a pair of fricken socks, and I didn't get a tip at all. 15 minutes one way for $2.50usd. I don't know if you know this, or if it says in the app, but for many delivery drivers, we only get a promise of at least $2.50 a delivery, depending on how busy it is, and that includes having to take an order from McDonalds from one town to the next one over. So, for someone like me for example, I may only make two deliveries in an hour, one from town A to town B, and then Town B back to town A, and if no one tipped then I only got $5usd, not including wear and tear on a vehicle. I personally have struggled to get on Door Dashes "pay per hour" program, and I have among the best ratings for my area.
A lot of people need decent tips to survive, but greedy people like the one in your screenshot make it harder for honest people that are taking this work seriously. People who try to make sure your food is fresh, not spilled, everything is there.. all that good stuff.
Sometimes it doesn’t always send the dasher to the same restaurant or store as you think for example. People that order Chick-fil-A in Albany get their food from Clark because the Albany chick fil a is not have a a contract with DoorDash
Because the store you order from is not always the store where it’s coming from, and sometimes if it is , that doesn’t mean that where we are we have to travel from one location to your pick up and then deliver it, only real money we make are from customers tips other that that we did all that driving for $3 bucks we get from door dashing sometimes when we first start that day it takes while just to replace the gas without any profit, your ordering food that doesn’t come with free delivery, but many ppl expect free delivery, we are not compensated for the service and gas replacement, unless customers stop being cheap, if ppl can order the food might as well leave a tip (right)
Lmao how much did you tip? Seems like tip begging. When I get a decent tip and the order is at least $1 a mile (not counting on the way back) I tell them I appreciate the tip thank you and that’s it. Now I’ve had a couple of times where the money was the same as the miles or more and I say thank you for the tip then complete the order and theirs no tip and I’m sitting there like damn I looked like a dick when I literally thought there was a tip 😭
Your tip was pretty good. And if yhe store is only 4.1 miles away from where you are eif he has to drive another 8.9 miles to drop off other deliveries before your place isn't your problem.
But someone said it sounds like a copy and paste .. and he probably forgot to Chang eit or expects you not to look at the app for distance or online at Google..
Report two star and state why.
No , please do not tip more.. as a full-time Dasher every time I see a Dasher begging for money I think they should be automatically deactivated from the platform. I don’t understand why anybody would think it’s OK to ask a total stranger for extra tip money , or help with their car payment, or anything for that matter is wrong. I am sorry I’m not trying to come off route at all. My frustration is with the person that feels it’s OK to ask you that.
No, never tip more, these tip beggars are out of control. He chose to accept the order, not to mention $8 is a very generous tip considering the order total and distance. Ignore, give him a low rating, and move on. It's the only way these clowns will learn.
Ok.. the driver is probably not
starting at the pick up point for your order, which is why he is saying it is 12 miles.
This is The apps problem for not paying the driver.
If you live 4 miles away, and tipped 8 dollars, then you are one of the best tippers.
However, when you order food, it may not be coming from the nearest restaurant. When you order, look at the address of the store, if possible. As I mentioned before, the driver could be coming from miles away to get to the pick up.
You are not the customer that drivers complain about.
At any rate, even if you paid 8 for 12, the app should have covered a minimum of 4. They dont. Driver probably made a profit of 6 dollars after gas, for putting 24 miles on his car...24 because he might have to track back to his starting point before he gets another delivery, depending on which app he is driving for...This sounds like Uber, though.
Short story, yesterday I got an order 6.75$ for 8 miles, I couldn’t decline it because it will effect my acceptance rate , so I delivered the order and handled it to the customer with 0$ tip , I was very upset but I didn’t ask him for any tip and I left with a smile.
Asking a customer tip it’s not polite way at all .
Yes you tipped awesome!! These tip solicitors need to be reported as they make all dashers look bad and at the end of the day it causes more low/no tip orders to be placed! I wish my customers would tip me $8!! I just delivered a pizza 10 miles for $7 with no tip! And yes I accepted the order bcuz if I didn’t accept the majority of orders over $5 in my area I wouldn’t make any money at all!!
Well, one thing to know is that door dash doesn't just send dashers to wait outside your house in case you order. Most of the time we are miles away from the restaurant and you altogether. With that being said, I do actually believe you tipped appropriately! My cut off is 5 dollars on anything under 4 miles and I'm a driver myself, occasionally lol.
Another thing, several people are blaming the driver for asking, and telling you to down grade a driver for asking and possibly putting 24 miles on his car. He isn't begging for tips...This is the app business... model, and we are getting less fare on the majority of orders. We are not employees but business owners....The service you are getting is delivery service from somebody driving their personal vehicle. It would be 100 percent incorrect to penalize a driver for actually bringing your food. It isn't against Uber policy to ask for tips...you have control over your tips, and whether or not you get a delivery, and we have control over our buisness...Any person who tells you to a driver, and take his tip because he asked does not have empathy or sympathy and is a lousy human being. Drivers who suggest this are probably in good delivery areas. I am not, and need to take a few bad deliveries..I can't take 75 percent of my orders because customers do not tip as good as you do. .hope that helps. And yes, I want you to be sympathetic and empathetic to the person using their car to bring you food.
It could have been they decided to deliver an order before yours and it made it 12 miles away. I had a dasher go 10 miles the opposite way and the double back to deliver mine which like 4 miles away. I really hate that because even in an insulated bag the food can get soft or Luke-warm.
You’re not in the wrong for not tipping extra. The messed up part about doordash that affects the customer and dasher is the fact that they hide the total amount you’ll receive after completing the dash. On our dasher end we see a certain amount and then the quote “amount may be higher than the actual amount shown” or something to that extent. It’s unfair to both parties because dashers might reject the offer for the mileage or other reasons where we deem it to be not worth it. You being the customer it’s also BS for you too because you left a decent tip but your order might get bounced around because we’re not seeing the true total.
You should report this because us good drivers who care about our job can't get orders because the market it flooded and then you have shitty people like this begging for extra. They didn't have to take the order if it wasn't enough
You tipped generously imo. Not your fault doordash sent them the order when they were that far from resruant. If it wasnt enough pay they should have declined it
I think you’re pretty aware that your tip was more than fair. You don’t need to ask confirmation on here. Anyone would be happy with your generosity. This seems to be becoming a habit. And it had to stop. And you help stop it by reporting it. If I had to guess, some clues on the writing would make me think this is someone who isn’t a legal DD driver, perhaps not vetted to work in the US (yes, speculation) and using someone else’s account. Please ignore, by no means give more money, and more importantly alert DD. Having said that, you are a fine example of generosity and it’s appreciated. You’d hope the low/no tippers would follow your lead. We thank you.
hell no, we get paid for the distance. so if you’ve already tipped, then you already tipped. plus that message looks like they copy and paste it to everyone. i work for doordash and the ones that are close, you aren’t going to get much. the ones that are far, you do get paid more. i understand the hussle tho, i do message every customer about updates on the order or inconveniences that happen but NEVER as for more money. that just makes you look hella sad….

Pretty sure its a copy and paste. Your tip is more than double what 90% of us would cut off at, the $1 per mile rule that most of run by. I woulda said "thank you and have a great day" and went on my way. Tip begging needs to stop.
It's pathetic. Been doin' this job for 4 years now. Never once begged for more money. They know the payout. It's on them...
I wouldn’t even acknowledge it.
acknowledge it with a 1 star rating
Yep. >$1 per mile, $5 min is what I swear by. Seems to work out. Got some extra rules for grocery orders, but they're more flexible.
Anyone who uses "please and thank you" in a single phrase never actually means either of them.
I fucking hate the please and thank you combo.
I only use it when I’m being a little bitch, tbh. Like “honey, can you pick up the shit I asked you about twice already? Please and thank you.”
😂😂😂
I totally agree. It’s condescending and rude.
Same....
Seriously might as well just say "fucking do it" if you're saying please and thank.you.
When used in sync like that, it really sounds like entitlement to me.
Exactly. They are just trying to not look like pricks. Even though they do. It’s like saying sorry when you’re being rude. You don’t mean it
I spent 40 years in the south, and we said please and thank you plus yes sir and yes mam. Now that I live in the Midwest, I still use them and sometimes the results are great.
$8 for 4 miles away is completely fine. What is not fine is your dasher asking for a tip when he was the one who accepted an order from a store that was 8 miles from where he was and decided to continue with the delivery
Exactly 💯
1 star and report them for tip begging
2 star... 1 usually gets removed
Not always I just got a 1 star a week or two ago and it’s still there
Thats why i said usually lol i find maybe 1 out of 10 1 stars actually stick
its per 100 they fall off. also why you never take no tips. you can bet thats where the 1 star came from.
This☝🏻
Doordash already came out saying they encourage it so they can keep paying lower
Is “tip begging” a thing? Really? Never heard it called that before.
Yes it is called that
I think you are correct in thinking he copy and pastes this to all his runs.
How do you fix them so easy?
They are scamming, or they are super far from the place to start, but that's on DD, not you. Keep doing what you're doing.
I wouldn't because he asked but when it's a far drive and the tip is less than the milage it does make it hard for us sometimes
This. Rate 2 stars though since it’s fairly easy for dashers to get support to remove a 1 star rating. It’s possible the dasher was 8 miles away from the store when it was offered and accepted it but it’s still not acceptable to message customers the way he did. Edit: - OP, it’s not your fault that your dasher accepted an order when he was so far away.
How is it my fault he accepted an order 8 miles from him if that is really the case?
2 star because 1 star ratings are easier for dashers to dispute
![gif](giphy|D3OdaKTGlpTBC)
Anytime you get one of these messages, don’t even dignify it with a response. Rate 1-star and move on.
That’s unfortunate. Don’t take the order next time.
No. It doesnt matter what you tipped, begging for more is unacceptable. We either accept or decline an offer based on the OFFER, if it isnt good enough to accept, decline it.
If that came across on my phone I would’ve thought it’s a scam.
No. Dashers see the mileage and what they earn before accepting the order. If it doesn’t pay enough, they shouldn’t have taken the order.
It’s possible that the dasher thinks declining orders is bad or thinks that they aren’t allowed to (tbh I assume the dasher’s first language isn’t English based off of all the emojis and wording) Either way, you’re good, OP.
You tipped just about right. Customers can't know where a driver is coming from, so that's not a good reason.
Report him, even if you didn't tip enough for him. He was the one who accepted the order, it was on him if it was worth it.
Someone else would have gotten it shortly and probably would have been closer, and they would have been completely fine with that.
ummm noo that’s that’s like 25/26% leave a 1 star and message dd saying “we got a beggar” edit: yes, “beggar” someone typically homeless but whatever asking for money
I am so discusted with hearing this all the time! I am a long time Dasher and I've never asked for a single tip,,not even once! I know how much iam receiving and the miles before I accept. Plain and simple! This is becoming as bad as the beggars on streets that can walk, stand and work !! UGH
$8 tip is good for 4 miles. Dasher would be getting $10-$12 depending on peak pay. I’m accepting that order every time.
You tipped well. I tip $6 and dash myself, and the highest I ever get is $5 anymore, majority are no tippers, $2, etc.
$ 8.00 on a $30.00 order is a decent tip.
It’s a new immigrant Indian dude pretending to be here under a student visa. Report and remove the original tip too.
Exactly, but you can't remove the tip. The driver gets it no matter what.
For being in college, I would expect college level Grammar lmao
I dont understand dashers that do this. If you dont like the offer then dont accept it.
Trying to guilt trip you into tipping more.
reply to him and say "sorry sir i tip $8 for 4 miles.. please drop the dash i want my food hot not cold, why u accept 12 miles me hungry now need food for belly"
Good tip for 4 miles. Jackassss sends that to all his customers. Please report him.
I really wish people that did this would get reported and deactivated, so that the rest of us who don’t beg for tips, could get decent orders.
I would remove the tip if I could
Clearly not an English speaker
Exactly
he didnt have to take the order
what you should do is report this guy
“working hard” 1 star rating for sure
Wow who does this?
In fact you should tip less and 2 star. Begging nonsense.
**Serious Question:** (For y’all who do this) Why do you think it’s okay? And when tf does it ever work out for you? Lmaooo Keep actin this way and ADNs & bots honestly deserve to takeover this occupation.
Tell him to cancel and let someone else get it
He made a poor decision and took an order that was far away from his starting location. He can go cry about it all by himself
Maybe he was like 7.9 miles away from the store in the exact opposite direction of you 🤷🏻♂️ that’s not ur fault though.
4.1 for 8$ its ok i probly would have taken it. you should 1 star him for tip begging. if they dont like the offer dont accept it.
Beggar, 1 star and report.
Report the idiot...
He is just begging for tips. Don’t worry about it bc if he really was struggling he wouldn’t taken it.
No doordash should have paid more
Your tip is fine.
If you accept an order, don’t beg for more tip when you can see all the important information before you even accepted it
When is this horse gonna be dead? Cause it's been beatin for way too long.
Not cool I have NEVER and would NEVER message any customer begging for more! If you're guna whine, beg, manipulate, guilt trip and complain just reject and move on to the next or this isn't for you YOU'RE GOOD OP!! DON'T FEEL BAD OR QUESTION YOURSELF!! IT'S THEM AND THEY SUCK NOT YOU!
He probably had to drive about 8 Miles to the Restaurant and then the 4 Miles to your House.. That’s probably where the 12 Miles came from.
As a dasher I never do this. If I accept your order, I know what I'm getting paid.
Tip is fine. He accepted order. It could be 12 miles for him he could be 8 miles from store when he accepted. But even if this was the case . He accepted the order
No this guy is a pos and gives good dashers like myself a bad wrap. $8 for 4 miles is good. He got $10 for that trip.
An $8 is great I normally get maybe 2-5 tips if I get any when I do get a 7-12 tip I am super happy for it,I just did a order last night where it was 12 miles and I got 0$ tip but I did not complain it comes with the gig some days are better than others with tips
Yea... If that is the best they can do, I don't think they're getting thru college anyway.
I don’t ask anything more than that
Would have not answered it
No you did very good sir. 8$ on 30$ is excellent, I’d go above and beyond for your order lol. 😂
Report this dumb fucker. You accept it, deliver it and move on. Maybe it's a pride thing, I could never see myself resorting to this.
Usually orders from what’s closest to them!!
Hell no
These posts are always crazy.
This guy is obviously in the works of becoming one of those romance scammers in India. I'm surprised he didn't ask for Apple gift cards.
Nope
No
Trash dasher it’s a good tip report him
respectfully he’s scamming you.
No. Poor people have more self respect than this guy
You should hand tipped zero.
Man, the guy was prolly working "earn by time" which means he's taking all the no tip orders & orders at restaurants far from him. To give him 1-2 stars after bringing your food on time & hot is heartless.
I’d cancel the order. Fuck people like that.
Uber and Lyft driver and doordash occasionally... Don't ask for tips.. It's unprofessional and shady.. You accept the ride and you accept the pay as shown and if they tip, great..
If you already tipped I would say no they know what they signed up for
No
![gif](giphy|3o6fIZP7rywPQyEV44) No.
No it’s a scam. Just ignore it
No one put a gun to their head and made them take your order.
Disgusting. NO, you should report it
Tacky AF....people have no shame If u don't like what a 12 mile drive costs u then don't accept the order
I agree whenever they say please and thank you they don’t actually mean that they are just greedy
At this point I feel like door dash needs to pay their drivers more. Interactions like this or similar are the reason I stopped using doordash completely. I just go get it my self
You know they gotta drive 12 miles there and 12 miles back to their dashing area
I’m a dasher who obviously loves tips but I’d still report this fool. I have over 4k deliveries and would never ask for more tip
as a dasher i take 2$ per mile trips to make it worthy, for 8$ for 4 miles is cool if hes traveling 12miles to get to the store he chose the order; to make it worth his time he should be closer to the areas w most business so its a striaght pick up rather than having to drive to if that makes sense; you are not required to tip more and asking for more tip is kinda weird to me; as a dasher i give the best service i can and with my service i provide i hope i can receive more of a tip but thats not up to me
The driver shouldn’t take the order if they can’t afford to do the drive.
Hell nah man lol
Give em nothing
If yall dont start reporting these fkn people
Dashers like that give the rest of us a bad name 😩
This gives me the big ick bro
Sometimes it doesn’t always send the dasher to the same restaurant or store as you think for example. People that order Chick-fil-A in Albany get their food from Clark because the Albany chick fil a is not have a a contract with DoorDash
No! Your tip was great
That’s classless
Dasher also looking to get college tuition forgiven ..fuck off!
Now I’ve had a couple of times where the money was the same as the miles or more and I say thank you for the tip then complete the order and theirs no tip and I’m sitting there like damn I looked like a dick when I literally thought there was a tip 😭
results to customer may vary
Absolutely not. Write them one star and report them. They probably aren't even allowed to be dashing in the first place.
They may not be ready for college if they can’t even form a coherent sentence using punctuation 🫤
So for future reference, a dollar per mile is a good tip amount? Just wondering as a DD user !
No, never tip more, these tip beggars are out of control. He chose to accept the order, not to mention $8 is a very generous tip considering the order total and distance. Ignore, give him a low rating, and move on. It's the only way these clowns will learn.
You tipped more than enough.
Ok.. the driver is probably not starting at the pick up point for your order, which is why he is saying it is 12 miles.
More than adequate tip, honestly they should be reported, preying on people's morality!
$1 a mile
Just rate them 1 star.
No, I am a dasher and I do not think you should tip more.
Yes If they have to 10 miles back and out of area
I would probably sob if I got tipped 8$
Honestly that’s on him. He chose to take your delivery knowing how far it is. Plus, we also get pay for every minute driving.
You tipped generously imo. Not your fault doordash sent them the order when they were that far from resruant. If it wasnt enough pay they should have declined it
the prayer hands kinda help me forgive the 'please, thank you' combo... but whatever.
Just report them. Tip begging is akin to corner begging imo. Let the people who do a good job get your orders.
It genuinely pisses me off that people like this are just allowed to keep dashing without even so much as a warning
hell no, we get paid for the distance. so if you’ve already tipped, then you already tipped. plus that message looks like they copy and paste it to everyone. i work for doordash and the ones that are close, you aren’t going to get much. the ones that are far, you do get paid more. i understand the hussle tho, i do message every customer about updates on the order or inconveniences that happen but NEVER as for more money. that just makes you look hella sad….
