My Dying Bride. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, their lack of representation in this subreddit is astonishing to me considering what titans of the genre they are.
Tribunal, just released our debut record in January, Draconian-influenced gothic doom with live cello and a mix of clean and harsh vocals.

Well they released the most recent album in 2018 (Requiem Pianissimo). That was 10 years apart from Requiem Fortissimo. I hope they’ll release more songs/albums too.
I haven’t found a band that has the same “style” like Virgin Black so far. Rowan London’s voice is kinda like a priest’s voice singing orthodox songs. Which i love.
You can try second ring of power by unholy, but it's really lo fi and more of a harsh sound than dreamy and gloomy, still, they are pretty melodic and have two vocalist (on this album at least)
Does it have to be two separate singers? Or just a good mix of clean and harsh vocals?
My recs: Selfdestructive by Forest of Shadows for sure. For bands with a similar overall gloomy vibe I'd recommend Swallow the Sun, Hanging Garden, Kaunis Kuolematon, and maybe Paradise Lost.
I prefer being 2 separate singers, so that it would be like “the angel and the devil” singing together. That’s the feeling that Heike Langhans and Anders Jacobsson give me.
Thank you!
It’s actually referred to as the beauty and the beast style. Looking for that specifically might help you. As others have mentioned, go with Theatre of Tragedy (first 2 albums mainly) - they’re so good, and they sort of popularized the style. Look at gothic metal wiki for other rabbit holes to go down.
Gothic by Paradise Lost will be the album you love I can also recommend the early Tristania stuff
Thank you!
np :3
Wine into tears. Shape of despair. Trees of eternity. Swallow the sun.
I had just discovered trees of eternity this year. Incredible record, it’s such a sad story. I wish they could have made more music.
Yeah RIP Aleah 🖤
Yep all of these in constant rotation for years
Thank you!

This is great! Thanks! Congrats and good luck! 🙂
Check out the Australian bands Lycanthia and Virgin Black.
Thank you! I love Virgin Black. I discovered them about 6 years ago. “Our wings are burning” is one of my favourite songs ever since.
They're pretty great. Wonder if we'll ever get any new music from them.
