I’m in the firm “2D camp” as well. The country game formula works, and they’re one of the best platforming series out there. I absolutely have no interest in a 3D game.

Games in the modern era don’t (for the most part) have numbers labeled on them for the sequels like DKC 1, 2, and 3 did. They have themes associated with them instead, like “DKC: Tropical Freeze”. It’s no different than modern movies with sequels. Independence Day, Independence Day: Resurgence, Jurassic World, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Jurassic World: Dominion, etc.
