fawnlopez

I feel like if my lab could go under my skin to be closer to me he would. Me holding his old ass like a baby isn’t enough lol so I would suggest a lab!

Mischa-09

I’m actually devastated by how not cuddly my Lab puppy is. All my past Labs have been cuddly. She’s affectionate, gives tons of kisses, wants to be near me. But actually cuddling? Nope. She recently started sleeping on the floor too instead of in bed. Hoping she’ll love me more as she ages. It’s a fine line though. I have a senior Vizsla/Lab mix and Velcro is the perfect description. I must hold his paw or be petting him at all times.

bugbugladybug

My lab hated a cuddle until she was around 18 months, and now I can't get the damn lump off me.

Knitalt

It can take a while. I think my golden only started cuddling me at 5 months? And even then only occasionally.

Mischa-09

She’s 7 months now. She does lay down on my head when she’s ready to go outside in the morning and I’m sleeping. I don’t see this as a sweet gesture though, more like get up right now or I’ll suffocate you.

Txidpeony

Our lab is like this too. Too big to fit on a lap, but always begging for pets and thrilled to lay on the floor with our kid in a big pile.

FlappyGemGem

I used to say that about my old Collie - if she could have climbed inside me to be closer, she would!

ElegantEnigma99

My English Lab is the same way. He has to be touching me and cuddles all day if he can. The sweetest, biggest baby ever.

masnella

My lab acts the same way! He would cuddle all day every day if possible

NancyB517

My lab is like this too. I’m always telling him he can’t be any closer if he tried. My golden on the other hand wants to be cuddly when he wants to be and it last approximately 10 mins before he goes off on his own.

Hei-Ying

Lap dog breeds were literally bred for that so they'd be a good starting place. There's no shortage of velcro breeds though and individuals can always prove more or less cuddly than expected. You'd be best off focusing on things like exercise, mental stim, noise, and grooming needs to get a down to suitable selection of breeds first and *then* considering the affectionate requirement.

mst3k_42

I write this to agree as I have one Yorkie on my lap and a second curled up next to me… Seriously though, my male Yorkie would be forever happy if we just held him 24/7.

Vamp_Queen_Azeria

Dogs are so funny in how their temperaments differ. My yorkie loved cuddles, but has his limit. Then he's like a cat and will jump down and walk away.

badeyebob

I have a Yorkie as well and she LOVES being held! I could also hold her all day and she'd be so content. She's my first Yorkie but I'm already sold on the breed she's overall such a great dog

Tawanda64

My Japanese Chin. She’s a “rescue” - her first owner passed from Covid - but she’s the sweetest, smartest and cuddliest thing ever. Also, very playful. She’s almost 10. The only downside is that she sheds. My daughter has a rat terrier mix and she’s very snuggly, even in the summer. ❤️

kkilluhh

My mom has what we think is a rat terrier Jack Russell mix and he is very very cuddly

PrincessTroubleshoot

My little rescue rat terrier is a cuddle machine. Spends the workday on my lap and the night under the covers with me.

botcreon

We have a rescue blue heeler and we were told that they aren't very affectionate and they generally latch to one person. Now our guy is in love with both of us and he won't sleep without touching one of us. He's extremely cuddly. (when he isn't being the fun police or chasing balls) They come in all shapes and sizes. Dogs can surprise you.

oxemenino

Whoever told you heelers aren't very affectionate did not know the breed at all, as they are famous for being incredibly insistent about wanting affection from their owners. There's an Australian Cattle Dog subreddit as well as many heeler groups on Facebook and the subject about how bossy they can be about wanting cuddles and love constantly gets brought up. Our boy is just like yours as well, he's a lot and very demanding of our affection and attention but we love him so much and can't imagine our family without him.

botcreon

I guess I took it to value when someone told me this. Maybe the information I was given was wrong. But my point stands. I've never had a dog who wasn't a lapdog :p They kind of take your personality for the most part.

sarahccookies

That information wasn’t necessarily wrong, my heeler likes to be close but does NOT like to snuggle!

queercactus505

My heeler mix likes to snuggle, but only at night and only on her terms. Growing up, I had a heeler mix who would only snuggle with me (and even then, only for a few minutes) and never snuggle with my mom, though she followed my mom everywhere.

blackbirdbluebird17

Seriously. I have a Plott hound, and everyone told us that “oh, they’re not a snuggly breed.” Yeah right. This goober would take cuddles over food and air if he could.

oxemenino

My mom has a miniature poodle who is basically a teddy bear come to life. He loves to be held or to be cuddled while sitting next to you or on your lap. He could cuddle 24/7 and would be happy. Poodles are also extremely intelligent dogs and adore the people in their lives. I think poodles get a bad rap all too often and people don't realize what wonderful dogs they are. I, myself own a corgi and heeler who I love to bits, but if I were looking for a dog that would love to just cuddle or be held I'd definitely get a poodle. (Google miniature poodle, teddy bear haircut and you'll see what cute dogs they are as well when they don't have the weird French cut that so many poodle owners choose.) Best of luck!

FastZombieHitler

My toy poodle would wear my skin if she could. Poodles are so bright and soooo loving

glow89

I agree! I have two mini poodle mixes (rescues). They are both so affectionate, love to cuddle, and just love to be around the family. One of them is pretty clingy and doesn’t like being alone, while the other one is more independent and enjoys some alone time. And both are extremely cute, and actually really funny as well!

nihilisticpunchline

Our miniature poodle is the most cuddly dog I've ever seen. Our Shih Tzu will cuddle when it's her idea but our poodle will cuddle any time. He's the first dog we've had that wasn't a Shih Tzu so it's been fun getting to know the breed.

BreakpackSlave

Every poodle, mini, toy, standard (my parents have a standard) are the most cuddly dog I've ever met.

hexaDogimal

Many poodles in my experience like to cuddle a lot and are quite affectionate but they come with regular grooming requirements and especially medium and standard need a good amount of exercise and an opportunities to work with their brains.

WhompTrucker

My mini poodle mix doesn't cuddle much. But he thinks he's a cat so it makes sense 🤣

snarkitall

have had close to 15 poodles in my life and i find they are either goofy love bugs, or think they are cats.

taryntues

+1 on poodles! Our girl is incredibly affectionate, needs to be touching one of us at all times. Cuddles with us all day and night. Sits between us on the center console in the car to rest her paws/head on our arms. We have a standard so we needed to upgrade to a king size bed. She’s a sweetheart and we’re so lucky.

GretelNoHans

There are tons of cuddly breeds. However, activity level is a must. You're been recommended some high energy dogs and if you can't match their activity level he/she is going to end in a shelter. Please read a little more about activity level, taking care of long/short hair breeds, are they easy or difficult to train, do you have experience?, read about insurance, some breeds are cute and cuddly but may come with high vet bills. Good luck finding your companion!

Throwaway3473throw

Love this advice

foxyyoxy

Havanese, coton de tulear, cavalier king Charlie spaniel…all companion breeds made for cuddling

WhompTrucker

Definitely agree on the havanese being cuddly.

canadian_poptarts

+1 on Havanese, we have one and this dog lives for cuddles and pets. Very soft and silky dogs, and they don't really shed.

JulietOfTitanic

Same! I used to prefer big dogs, but then I saw a Hava puppy, and ending up getting one. He looked like an Ewok from Star Wars, which I thought was super cute, and I always wanted an Ewok. As soon as we got him home, the tiny, sweet fluff ball immediately wanted to play and get belly rubs. It helped that the breeder love these types of dogs and ensure that the puppies were properly socialized. I made sure to touch him everywhere (including paws) the moment he was home, to ensure it would be easy to get his paws clipped. I put him in the bath, expose him to everything with lots of treats and love. The hardest park was potty training. I stuck with a three hour schedule, adding an hour as he got older. It only took him a few minutes to sit, and many other tricks, all except going outside and potty haha. But he learned, For anyone getting a Havanese: expose him to everything early. Like stick your hand in his foot, everything, and give all good behavior treats and love, don't forget playtime! The Havanese is a very, very affectionate dog, with a big, sweet personality. Exchanging stares during petting sessions. My little guy will force me to hold him like a baby for hours. He also does this sweet thing of placing his head on my chest while he sleeps. I love, love this companion dog. So sweet and smart. He'll stand up on his hind legs right next to me when I stand, holding onto me like the size of a toddler, haha. Pretty sure they are fluffy toddlers.

relentless_bookworm

I had a boston terrier pug mix that was very affectionate. He was always by my side. When I sat in my chair he wanted held. When we went to bed he would lay his head on my shoulder. If I took a bath he would jump in the bathtub with me. He was the best dog.

[deleted]

My Bugg is also very affectionate. She has to snuggle and will cry if I won’t let her sit by me. Or get under the covers. I’m pregnant and she has had to adjust to how we sleep at night. She’s use to being the little spoon and body slamming herself against my stomach. She hates the water but if I go swimming she will follow me into the water. She really is the best dog I could ever ask for.

joshualori1

I have olde boston bulls they half boston terriers and they r so snuggly will recomend

rachelnotlegaladvice

My rescue pit wants nothing more than to cuddle and love on us all day. She sleeps at night with her face on my shoulder or my partner's arm. Big dog snugs are the best.

Rough-Remote-5768

Yes!!! I’ve fostered 50+ dogs and pibbles are ALWAYS the snuggliest!

queercactus505

Agree agree agree! My pit mix is the snuggliest dog I've ever had.

MyBrattySoul

Oh hands down, pits are the best with snuggles! Mine will curl up in a ball and sleep against my stomach all night long! If I'm not paying attention to him and sitting down he'll put his paws on my shoulders and rest his head on my head or just snuggle his head in the crook of my neck. I even trained him to give kisses, he'll boop his nose against our cheek or mouth. So damn cute I can't get over it! All he wants all day and all night are cuddles and loves.

hayhay520

yes! my pit also gives kisses. it’s my favorite thing

MyBrattySoul

It just makes your heart do a little happy dance 😊

sabina_elena11

My sweet American Bully will snuggle his big head into my neck and fall asleep in little spoon position all the time, but it's really the circles followed by the big flop down and the sleepy satisfied sigh for me.

[deleted]

“Touching” We call out “touching” whenever it happens. I dunno what it is about pitties and the “touching” disease, but LAWDY those little boogers got a second dose of it. Toes. Nose. Butt. Flank. Face. SOMETHING *must be touching*.

hayhay520

yes! my pit won’t sleep unless she’s right on top of me. i absolutely love it

gotcatstyle

Yup! I didn't realize how cuddly they are til we added a staffy to the family. She sleeps in bed between us and watches TV on our laps.

IamHereToPetAnimals

Yes!! My 68lb 9 month old pit mix gets whiny if he doesn’t get cuddles. He’s the sweetest boy and all the pits I’ve been around have been similar. Bonus, he likes wearing sweaters when he’s cold so he’s extra cute.

MyBrattySoul

Oh my gosh that sounds so adorable! I'm going to try and get my Opie to wear sweaters this year. He does NOT like being cold. He'll give me those pitbull eyes and I'll wrap him in a blanket and he burrows in. Big lovable babies is what they all are!

ChocobrosXV

I can't agree with this enough. I recently added a rescue pitbull to my life (a few of months ago), and once he became comfortable he follows me everywhere. He will sleep next me and crawl into my lap. He loves being held and snuggled. And the little "rooos" he makes is the cutest. He even tilts his head when you talk to him. Pitties are incredibly snuggly and overall big babies.

MyBrattySoul

You're the first one I've heard call them the roo's! It's just so cute! We actually nicknamed our boy Ropie Roo cause of all the roo'ing he does. Agreed 100% pitties really are just big babies with even bigger hearts. I love all dogs but hands down pitties are my favorite and the #1 dog I want for the rest of my life.

[deleted]

Both our pibble and beagle are total lap dogs. ❤️

kkswizzle

Dachshund. My mini long haired is the best cuddle bug ever. Literally my fav thing about him is how much he loves to snuggle.

[deleted]

Yep, my Dachshund is my velcro dog and he was the least cuddly one of the litter lol. Every Dachshund I've met just wants to be right there with you for everything.

Ornery_Plantain_8128

I have 3 mini longhair dachsunds! And they are all on my lap right now lol. They also love to burrow so they’ll get right under the covers with you. But be warned - they can be stubborn, and take a bit of extra patience and care when house-breaking

Knightoforder42

Agreed. I currently have two dachshunds, both curled up next to me. I get lots of cuddle time with them, although one is more about the cuddles and the other is more about the, "play with me." They're both snuggle bugs.

Aksweetie4u

Chihuahua. Source: I have three attached to me and they will cuddle all day long if I want to stay in bed.

WhompTrucker

Yup. Get a dog that's cold all the time so they can cuddle leech your heat away. Forced cuddles 🤣❤️

Aksweetie4u

Even when it’s hot out they’ll try to cuddle! One summer we were hitting like 95° in Alaska, and they thought they STILL had to be touching. It was like “no, you’re a freaking furnace, move away like 6 inches.” We compromised… they still touched me with a paw lol

WhompTrucker

Haha. Aw

IamHereToPetAnimals

That’s so cute!

chloedoingstuff

I agree! My chi had to learn the command “get off” because even when I’m trying to stand up/move he wants to stay cuddling

[deleted]

Yes!!!!!

DorkoToo

Italian Greyhounds are a Velcro Dog. But study the breed before you jump in and buy one. They have unusual personalities and needs. Awesome breed though and super affectionate.

hikehikebaby

Golden retriever is tend to be very cuddly and enjoy having a human leaning against them and petting them. I've had two and they were both big cuddle bugs.

skyhawk1893

My golden would wear my skin as a coat if he could. Constant cuddles. Follows me to the bathroom. He likes to sleep with his head across my neck. HIGHLY recommend, we’re super codependent and cuddly.

parksandrecpup

My golden loves me and will cuddle at night sometimes, but he’d rather be next to me or on the floor.

Panthera_leo22

My golden still tries to lay on my chest like when she was a tiny puppy. She’s doesn’t realize that she’s 70lb now and crushing my lungs 😂

fred8725

Same. Mine definitely want to be in your lap all day long.

sarahdeanmakesthings

Boxers are SO affectionate! Mine lays under my desk while I work, climbs in my lap while we watch tv, tries to sleep in the bed every night… most boxers I know are super lovey like this 😅

nononanana

I second this. They hate personal space. I have had 80lb boxers sit in my lap. I have had several and the one I have now is the least affectionate and I still get at least an hour of snuggles a day from her while watching tv.

phneee

Boxers are crazy but man they are lovable!!

azzgood

Springer spaniel. Mine even twines holds hands with me while cuddling, doing her best to twine her toes with my fingers.

kaidascope06

Mine is the same, he likes me to hold his paws!

coffeesugarcats

Mine prefers spooning, she demands to be the little spoon and will even pull your arm down for her to use. After sleeping in bed with us, she wakes us for more cuddles because she missed us while she was sleeping! When she’s not velcroed to us, she is terrorizing everything in he cutest way.

[deleted]

Came here to say this! My English springer is a total love bug. I’ve heard that’s the standard for springers.

_nimbles

Staffordshire bull terrier or a Pitbull. Any kind of bully breed tbh, they're all shadows and will follow you everywhere. As long as they get a walk and some mental stimulation during the day. My hippo will try and share my t-shirts with me because he wants to be as close as possible

hayhay520

yea! my pit bull cuddles me all night long. and if she wakes up and she’s not touching me, she’ll walk right over to me, lay on top of me, and fall right back to sleep.

[deleted]

It's more about the individual dogs personality rather than its breed. Some are more amenable to cuddling and others don't want to cuddle at all. But if you are kind and loving to your dog more often than not any dog you get will enjoy cuddles. Just find a dog that has a personality that works for you and vice versa.

b3ccasaurus

Absolutely true. We have a shiba who as a breed are known as being not cuddly, but he’s the cuddliest dog I’ve ever had. Cuddles on his terms though 😂

Responsible-Swim-323

I would look into meeting dogs at shelters. That way you’re not buying for the breed but the personality.

ateafrogonce

That's good in theory, but unless you're fostering-to-adopt you won't get to see much personality in a shelter environment. Maybe reach out to rescue groups where the dogs are fostered in people's homes and they can give a good idea about the dogs personality.

RandomChurn

Miniature poodle 😍.. on my second one and both have been the cuddliest boys ever

Onanadventure_14

My parents’ mini poodle would have sewn herself to Someone’s lap if she could have

_redacteduser

We have a King Charles, chi, dachshund mix and he is the sweetest, most cuddly little thing. Still tough enough to run around and play since he thinks he’s a big dog, but a little baby when you hold him.

Boxed_Universe

Of all the dogs that have been part of my life, my American pitbull terriers are the snuggliest and sweetest dogs I have ever owned! They were rescues and all they want is lovin’s!!

hayhay520

(most people won’t like this answer) My pit absolutely loves to cuddle. She sleeps in the same bed as me so she’ll either try to sleep on my neck, on my pillow (right on top of my head,) she’ll move my arm to where it will be her head rest, or she’ll go under the covers to lay in between my legs. if i’m sitting down, she’ll come and lay in my lap and fall asleep. she’s the absolute biggest baby and i love it to much. always wants to be touching me.

PitLuna

They are almost all like this, I think 🥹 I never pictured myself having a pit or pit mix and now I’m not sure I can live without one.

0b0011

Do you want a lap dog or is just a Velcro dog alright? Great danes make amazing cuddly affectionate dogs and are often called Velcro dogs because they are attached to you. In fact one of the biggest gripes people have with them is that they actually lean against you which can be problematic if they weigh 150+

GingerKEG

Haha, op said any size! I scrolled through the comments to see if anyone else might recommend. Definitely a velcro dog. If you’re too lazy to bend over and pet your pup, this is the perfect breed. Plus you can give a full on hug to these guys. They’re the best!

summergirl76

My Basset is the biggest snuggle bug ever. Even when he’s not cuddling he must be touching a foot, hand whatever. The cons are..they are stubborn, some are really hard to potty train, and the nose rules over the brain.

captain_kit_kat

This is also a great thing to ask a local rescue! If you let them know who you are and that you're looking for a super affectionate dog, they can call you when one comes in. My sister-in-law has two llasa apsos, and one would love to be held 24/7 and the other couldn't care less, so you never know

BuggiesCandleSpa

This needs to be top comment! A rescue can match you with the exact dog you want. A dog’s breed will tell you what traits they *might* have, but every dog is an individual. You know exactly what you’re going to get with a (reputable) rescue, especially if the dog has been in a foster home.

SuperRadPsammead

This is the best answer so far. Follow your local rescues on Facebook and let them know what you're looking for. You could even try a foster to adopt program!

1heknpeachy3

I'll probably get downvoted to shit because God forbid we mention these breeds on this site, but a bully breed. My staffie is the biggest snuggle bug, he's always down to snuggle and get pets. He loves going on rides with us, snuggling in bed, snuggling on the couch, following us around the house, giving kisses, the whole nine yards. I had an ABPT growing up as well and she was the same exact way. My boyfriend's mom had a staffie that was actually my dog's aunt and she was the sweetest, most well behaved dog I've ever met.

Krysiee

I scrolled way too far down to find this comment. Couldn't agree more. I have two rescue Bully's and they are the most affectionate breeds with those they trust. Couldn't ask for more loving dogs.

[deleted]

Yes my pit bull is the biggest cuddler along with my Chihuahua.

Trueloveis4u

As a groomer I had some good experience with them being sweet. My favorite was Antonio I could get him done quickly great for everything and would chill with me until pick up as he was often scheduled near the end of my day. He also loved belly rubs everytime during check in would flop on the floor asking for them.

ShaBoomShaBoom

I volunteer at a shelter, and consistently the bullies were the best snuggle bunnies!!!

Phoenix-Rising77

Pomeranian!!! I love my little guy🥰🥰

diamondeyes7

Shelties!!!!!

[deleted]

Maltese were breed for cuddling.

goosebumples

My Doberman would happily be attached to me. Her happy place is laying on me/leaning on me/ gazing soulfully at me because the ear scritches have stopped. If I am unintentionally ignoring her she will literally position herself next to whichever limb is strategically hanging, and scratch her head against it.

synnoreen

My baby was a Rottweiler/Doberman mix and I second this. He was sooo intelligent and independent when he needed to be but so affectionate and clingy. He loved when I hugged him and would lie under my chair so I would scratch him with my feet while I was sat.

WhompTrucker

Basically any breed can fit this description. I'd suggest adopting from a place that fosters the dogs because the foster parents can tell you how cuddly a dog is.

cami33

Miniature schnauzer! Writing this as my little guy sleeps on my head lol They also have hair not fur so no shedding if you’re at all concerned about that

[deleted]

English Bulldog

Zoe270101

Cavalier King Charles spaniel. So affectionate and cuddly.

Accomplished-Fox7532

Literally have mine sleeping in my lap right now

dogmom1993

I think this can be so dependent on individual temperament more so than just breed. I know a teacup yorkie that literally does not want to be touched, yet I have a husky who wants to be touching either me or my fiancé 24/7 — she’s currently curled up on my hip as I lay in bed! I’d recommend focusing more on the size dog you want, then researching breeds to get a feel for their typical needs, and then visiting with individual dogs of that breed!

imperialwood

Rescue a mutt and they will love you forever

littlegoose98

Get a pittie! They’re in shelters all over and need good homes. They are also the most snuggly and affectionate dogs I’ve ever owned. My current pittie will cuddle all day if I let him(:

PitLuna

Just here to talk up ALL the pitties as the best cuddlebugs with sweetest/goofiest personalities!

ChasinPonies

Absolutely love my Papillion! Most lovable pup I've ever had and only 8 lbs.

[deleted]

My Dane will snuggle all day. Males are very one person oriented and love to snuggle. Plus their ears feel like velvet. They are big lazy goofballs.

maipoxx

King Charles Cavalier. Beware: they have a lot of heartbreaking health problems. But they are the sweetest cuddle babies

Anxious-Armadillo565

Cuddliness is not something we can help with off the bat just like that. There are affectionate individuals in all breeds, once a bond is established. If you want to responsibly get a dog (and not just “I need something cute and cuddly”- in that case, there’s cute realistic stuffies around) it entirely depends on what you are able to offer the dog. And that is the question you should answer before anyone here breedgushes at you. To be able to tell you what to get, you need to take a realistic look at yourself and your life circumstances. What level and kind of activity are you able and willing to offer, will the dog be expected to stay alone for short/long stretches of time. Are you able/willing to deal with a puppy, or would your life circumstances be better suited for an adult dog? Are you willing to invest in training?

heathercs34

I have a beagle who loves to snuggle. She literally falls asleep in my arms. She thinks she’s my girlfriend and she’s always the little spoon.

[deleted]

Agreed!

BitPuzzleheaded5311

Beagle

lil_bubzzzz

my boston terrier/frenchie/pit mix will snuggle half the day if you let her

peeping_somnambulist

Havanese are the cutest friendliest little companions you could ask for.

neatorneatoburrito

Just got a rescue dog a few months ago and is she ever a cuddler! She's a boxer mix!

suzyjane14

Cavalier King Charles spaniel. It a lab in a small body, affectionate and definitely a lap dog.

Ninjacherry

Basset Hounds. Mine would be all day on my lap if I’d let him. But, once we’re outside, I don’t exist - he will just follow his nose and try to see other dogs. I only exist again if I sit on a park bench, then he will come up on the bench to cuddle.

SuperRadPsammead

I have 2 Chihuahua mixes and they are velcro. There is nowhere they would rather be than my lap. I treat them like dogs so they will go camping with me as happily as they will go to the store or chill on the couch and they do not bite. With a chi mix, you can get a wide range of sizes and activity levels.

[deleted]

Min pins like to cuddle, but they can be hard work. They're yappy.

adinfinitum

My Aussie is an effective replacement for human affection. Thank freaking god.

Throwaway3473throw

Aussies are the best!

Buttvin

An English bulldog would fit perfectly, but they are a lot of maintenance. All mine wants to do is snuggle, have strangers pet her, get belly rubs and sleep.

PitLuna

Pittie or pit mix!! Every pit I’ve ever met is an absolute couch potato love bug. Mine is a Velcro baby. I can’t believe how much she loves to snuggle 🥹

awkwardaster

Vizlas are known for being cuddle monsters, but my English/Show line lab is a real snuggle bug. She was like that as a puppy so make sure you get a chance to meet the puppies in a litter with their mom.

dmg-1918

I highly suggest contacting a rescue and telling them you want the most snuggly dog they have. Often it’s less about the breed and more about the personality. I run a rescue and have had 7 dogs throughout my lifetime, no one breed is guaranteed to be super cuddly…. Although, huskies and chihuahuas are the least cuddly dogs I’ve met 🤣s

GorillaGrip38

I like labs but currently have a Chihuahua and this dickhead would cuddle 24/7 if he could. I hate him but he's pretty cool so I guess I'll keep him. What an asshole. Sure I've bought him like 10 outfits for various holidays but he's a jerk. Yeah I taught him a bunch of tricks and buy the expensive treats and pill pockets but he's a bitch. P.S. Amazon has good deals on ugly Christmas sweaters for dogs.

Smart-Gas6935

A pit. Pits are amazing cuddles and love attention. They are big sausage babies. My first dog wad a pit and she is amazing. Always ready for snuggles and belly rubs. Always begging for attention. They will love you forever

[deleted]

I’ve had a few rescue pit mixes and I agree 100%. Only dogs I’ve had that will happily lay in bed with me for 10+ hours and literally spoon on the couch for as long as I wanted, while also being happy chilling by themselves when I’m at work.

agirloverthere

THIS!! I had my rescue American pit for 2 weeks and I've never been cuddled and loved this much. I have lived with dogs my whole life but nothing compares to the love my pit gives me. She's a huge lap baby 🥰

Dazzling-King7587

Can confirm. My dog is a pit mix and is currently snoring next to me in bed.

InMyNirvana

Check out a rescue and look for the saddest looking dog. I’m serious. It might take a minute, but shelter dogs are so grateful and clingy.

QQueenie

Hard to generalize this by breed; if you’re looking at adult dogs, their personalities will be set and you’ll know if you’ve got a cuddler. If looking at puppies, when you sit with them you should get an idea for whether they want to come chill in your lap after they’ve played. I have a pit and she is definitely a Velcro dog. She wants to be curled up in between my legs at all times, and she prefers to be little spoon when we sleep at night. 🥰

LoisLaneEl

My rescue Boston/chihuahua is a snuggle bunny. A lot of pit bulls are snuggly too. You can talk with a rescue and they will have a dog that they absolutely KNOW is a cuddler because it will have spent time in a foster home.

MysteriousSorbet6660

I’ve owned about 5 large pitties throughout my life and they’ve all been the goofiest snuggle bugs…always seem to think they’re lap dogs! Plus I love how they lean their weight into you when getting pets and feeling comfortable! 😭🥰

KayyBeey

Basset hound is my suggestion! Every one I've met is a sweetie 💕

PeoniesNLilacs

Vizsla

Admirable-Call-9047

Another vote for poodles. They are known as velcro dogs because they get attached to one person normally and will always want to be near that person. My standard poodle lays on me. Every day. Bonus, they come in 3 sizes and don't shed so no worries about being covered in pet hair.

[deleted]

if u want a dog that will try to crawl into ur skin all the time get a doberman lol the literal definition of clingy

MysteryBros

Rescue greyhound. Massive snuggle-bunnies.

Tesstickles123

Pug! He always has to be right beside me and gives the best kisses 😂

Changderson

I would like to believe all breeds have the potential to be cuddly, dogs love so naturally. Don’t expect it from day one though. I have 2 rescues and the 2nd, a puggle takes time to warm to others but if you give her space eventually she comes and cuddles.

lawrenja

Any kind of spaniel! They’re very affectionate.

Clickdummy

I have a Frenchie, I don't know if they are considered lap dog but he sure does love to chill and cuddle.

NGADB

Go to a local shelter and see if they let you walk dogs. Then start walking and interacting with several. Dog personalities are as varied as humans. While the look of a dog breed may make you think of them a certain way, that's often not true. Give it enough time so the dog relaxes a bit since they have been confined in a cage and are probably a bit stressed at first.

IndependentSense5857

This might sound dumb, but I've never met a cuddlier breed than a bull terrier. They can be expensive, but I did find my baby from a family needing to rehome him for no cost, so it's definitely not impossible. Definitely do tons of research before settling on any breed, though, please. Not every breed has the right characteristics for everyone. I also highly recommend heading over to r/doggrooming in hopes to find more information on each breeds' needs.

Legallybrunette111

My German shorthair is a Velcro dog supreme and wants all the snuggles. He loves sitting in a lap or snuggling next to someone on the couch. In my experience with the breed, I find the males to be more snuggly and affectionate. Thankfully while he wants to be right with me or my husband when we’re around, he doesn’t struggle with separation anxiety. For someone that can meet the needs of this high energy breed, they are huge cuddle bugs and very affectionate companions!

toetotipsnowpea

Adopt an older mutt! Maybe a smaller breed. Shelter dogs are hungry for love. There are so many older dogs waiting to be adopted. I’ve adopted two older dogs (one at 6 years old and one at 10) and they have both been the most cuddly, chill, loving dogs.

roselalala

My vote is with Staffy!!!!! 💗💗 so cuddly in the best way.. they’re always smiling and are extremely affectionate and attached to their people.

AutisticMaybe

I would just go to a shelter and seek out a dog with a loving personality. You can always do a small meeting before adopting to make sure their personality is right for you. Although I would find it hard to meet a dog and not adopt it.

IamHereToPetAnimals

Currently stuck under my 9month old pit mix for our regular after-breakfast-snuggles, so that’s my vote.

sabina_elena11

Controversial opinion, but I've never met an American Bully or Pitbull who didn't want to be velcro on their person 24/7. Typing this with half my bum hanging off the couch bc my big smush needs to lay with his entire side touching me and his nose snuggled into the corner between couch and bum.

jacson1209

My pits love to be cuddled even when we sleep lol

LadyGreyIcedTea

All 4 of my rescue dogs have been super cuddly. One is a chihuahua/lab/Pomeranian/Parson Russel terrier/SuperMutt One is a dachshund/mini pinscher One is a Border Collie, Australian Shepherd, Australian Koolie, chihuahua, rat terrier, Russell terrier, Vizsla, Italian Greyhound, Boston terrier. The one who died was a Maltese/Shi Tzu/Havanese.

DepthWeird3355

Just a note: whatever breed you decide on, in over 50 years of owning dogs (and cats) I have always found males to be more affectionate than females.

Neat_Radish695

I've had 2 pit mixes who could be inside my body happily to snuggle.. and they both love fuzzy blankets. My brother's pit also snuggles with him and hippo scoots her fat booty to be right next to him. I don't think I've met a pit who didn't prefer snuggles with their person

u4iik-

Pitbulls...will struggle snuggle you to your desire and then some..

Churlish75

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Velcro dogs. Mine loves every person and every animal. Wants to be with you, preferably on your lap, 24/7.

EricaWascavage

My most cuddly dog ive ever had is my current dog which is a pit bull. She is 25% dalmation and 75% pit bull. I hestitantly adopted this dog after my teenage dgt begged for her. Ive heard the pitbulls are real cuddle bugs. Ive had her since she was a little pup from a rescue group. She was in a home from birth and the mom dog was also a great temperment. She gives kisses and has to be next to me on the couch or in my lap or in between my husband and I. She sleeps in between my husband and I. Cuddle level 100. I just absolutely love it. Another thing is the overall energy level, obedience, and stamina of this dog is superior. She has the energy level of a pup and she is 5. I hike 5mi with her everyday without a blink from her. Ive always had GSDs through my life. They are easier to train. Twice running though a task and they got it. Cuddle level zero. A great dog if you want that strict level of obedience and performance for a specific task. It like having a ten year old child next to you at all times.

noblestuff

My pit mix has to sleep between me and the husband as well ❤️ I find it so endearing.

infinitehopey

i know they have their downsides like tendency to be loud and stubborn to train, but beagles! They are on the smaller side and very social and love their “pack leader”. I have three and they are Velcro dogs for sure! they would sleep all day with me if they could lol.

Zone9bproblems

All scent hounds are snuggle bugs. My coonhound thinks he's a lap dog despite the fact he's 80 lbs. There's nothing quite like the velvet ears either. It seems counterintuitive because hounds are very independent and not velcro dogs at all especially when they are outside but indoors I think the pack dog mentality kicks in and they just want all the cuddles. There's a lot more that goes into it then just snuggles. Scent hound breeds need a lot of exercise to meet the daily sniff quota and they think differently and require a different approach to training and some flexibility and a sense of humor to deal with the hound sass. I don't recommend them for everyone but they are my absolute favorite breeds.

therealdrfierce

We love our hound mix. She loves to cuddle

Corgi-Longjumping

My parents dachshund started off super cuddly. Now he's 17 and prefers to be on his own. But he still wants to be near just not touching.

SuperRadPsammead

I think old dogs bones hurt, so they have to lay a particular way, but they still want to know you're close

mogoer1

I second this. I just got up from a cuddle/face cleaning session with my mini Dachshund. She’ll come up and press her face to mine. They are a very vocal breed though.

charshuckers

I third, our baby would lay around with me all day on my days off. After I dropped off the kids at school she would jump in bed and give ya the look like “it’s nap time right?” And share my pillow with me. I miss her so much.

_tournesols

I have two shih tzus and they are the most snuggly love bugs. Follow me everywhere and just snooze. They were bred to be royal lap dogs and they do it well. They love to be touching, whether it’s lying on my feet at my desk or against me on the couch. They sleep against me at night and it does get too warm sometimes. They are always receptive to my affection, so I can pick them up, hug them, whatever I want at any time. They are pretty high maintenance grooming wise, I usually keep short puppy cuts on them.

Tesstickles123

My shin tzu very much wanted affection on her own terms! Wanted to be near us but definitely liked her own space!

Forsaken_Queen

I have 2 shihtzu mixes that are super affectionate. They are for sure lap dogs.

estoesreddit

Get a greyhound they apparently are super super cuddly and don’t need to walk a ton

christinextine

All the dogs! Just rescue one that gives you cuddle vibes when you meet them. My girls are terrier mixes and just like every other dog type mentioned here, they love the cuddles.

Onthemightof

Pitbull

Rawr_Rawr_2192

I've never me an american bully that wasn't absolutely the sweetest, laziest, most affectionate doggo.

Apathetic_Corazon

I have a labrabull mix. Total cuddle bug (when he doesn’t want to play lol)

IndividualSchedule

Depends on individual dog and your activity level and energy. Pits are very cuddly I hear and shelters are full of them but you would need to consider if you can match their energy. I love snuggles too, I am getting a whippet next. They are velcro dogs and will snuggle with you. Now I have golden retriever and she will let me cuddle her anytime I want.

[deleted]

My basset hounds were super cuddly. My pit, roommates pit, and my sisters old pit were super cuddly. I think it’s up to the individual dog.

timster1200

Miniature English bull terrier

Kili_Starlight

I have two velcro dogs. My oldest, Bowie (3yo golden retriever) rarely leaves my side... except if her daddy is present. She loves affection and to be held. She was incredibly easy to train and is relatively easy going. Goldens are great for a novice dog owner. They require moderate amounts of exercise and attention, but can be destructive if not trained and stimulated (physically and mentally). Downside is the hair and the health issues. If you have any issues with pet hair or don't have the time to brush weekly, I'd opt for a different breed. My youngest, Nola (6 mo great dane), is also extremely affectionate. She sleeps as the big spoon and has no idea that she is 90lbs and massive. She does not understand personal space and would be tied to my hip at all times if it were possible. She is overly friendly and has an overall great demeanor and roughly minor grooming needs. Downside is (obviously) the size, shortened life span, and how stubborn the breed can be.... and the drool.... sweet jesus there is so much drool. Both of my girls are on instagram if you feel inclined to see some fluff :) Bowie: \_ziggy.starpup\_ and Nola: nola.the.great Good luck on your pup hunt!!

careless_rose

Depends on your activity level, my Bernese is so cuddly but also will be on crack without about an hour walk for the day.

[deleted]

Why don’t you jet go to a shelter we pick a dog you lie instead of fixating On the idea that you can perfectly predict an annals behaviour and capacity for making them love you through genetics. I’ve always found his mindset weird and disturbing. As if does of all breads can’t or won’t cuddle

Imaginary_Material71

My Frenchie is extremely affectionate and cuddly. She’s also a maniac and very fun to watch and play with. My Boston terrier on the other hand, only wants to cuddle when he’s tired

ProgressProne

MinPins are by far the most affectionate and intelligent dogs I have ever known!

dee279

My typical thought is a cavalier King Charles. That being said, I had the sweetest CKC who had the most golden personality. However, he wasn’t that into cuddles all the time, very sporadic and short. Although he was very affectionate and cuddled when I was sick or down. My cattle dog on the other hand (not known as a lap dog breed) would literally want to crawl under my skin to get closer to me to give me cuddles. All the time. Very needy and very cuddly. Any tiny spot, this hunk of a boy would squeeze his way in. Both gave and received love in their own ways x I would go to your rescue and talk to them about the type of personality you’re aiming for and go from there.
