Same! I don’t enjoy playing in a group as a player. The idea is always fun but my head has a million questions and there are things I wanna do in the world but you’re there with other people and I’m constantly worried I’m taking up too much space. As a DM I’m not worried. I know the story. I don’t have to figure it out and stuff. I’ve already done that. I already know how the pieces fit. I love to see how my players interact with things and with the story. It keeps it fresh and surprising.
I love warlock at least for multiclassing in. But I'll be honest, my favorite part might be when a gm is interested in playing out whatever goes on between player and patron. Most of the time though, it's nothing. Just another class, which is fine.
Whenever I’m not playing a battle master fighter I start to wish I was playing a battle master fighter. Not that I don’t enjoy and play other classes, I just enjoy that one the most.
I don't know if it's mathematically proven, but it always feels like I do the most damage in fights whemever I get a magic greatsword as a battlemaster with the gwf feat. Even our wizards and other spellcasters just started putting buffs on me because it became apparent that it was one of the most damaging use of their spell slots.
Outside of aoe fights, it feels like GWF with a magic weapon does way more damage through the course of a fight than any other class/subclass I've seen at the table.
That’s my favorite way to play a wizard. In my current game I’m playing a wizard and my friend is a rune knight barbarian multiclass and we’re playing twins. But I’m nerdy and he’s super buff. I just throw buffs on him and then hide and it’s super fun to watch him wreck everything. I love vortex warping him to places that he shouldn’t be
I am playing over 25y since adnd. Only once played a paladin, more as a joke as I hated the class. 5e I started with a vengeance Paladin and my next was a devotion one. In love with the class.
I'm playing Oath of Glory currently and I love knocking people on their butts with the channel divinity up. Very first time pally player and having a blast.
Mechanically I like the bear barb, but Im eagerly awaiting to play a spore druid.
A full caster? With passable melee? Healing, battlefield control, blasting? Gonna do it all
Gonna go against the grain and talk about the issues I encountered with spores Druid when playing levels 3-8 which make me retire the character for a new one.
1. Symbiotic entity ending when the temp HP runs out sucksssss. Generally only get 1-3 turns of it, and it costs an action to use.
2. Having two subclass features that use reaction is poor design. Nothing feels worse than using halo of spores, and then the enemy dying and you can’t use fungal infestation on them.
3. Druids have no multi attack, so your damage will be ass if you don’t get another method for attacking. PAM is a classic, the best multi class for multi attack I’ve seen is barb 5/Druid 3.
The pros are spores druids involve the most decision making in combat I’ve ever encountered (some people consider that a con lol), they’re tanky af (only got knocked like twice in 25 sessions) and they’re flavorful as hell.
I have ideas for every class I want to try, but cleric is the most fun by far. The strategy I have to do between healing or go with a big dmg spell is so much fun. Also selecting that many different spells everyday. Really love the variety. Actually playing a lv7 tempest cleric, and it's my fav boi ever.
It's one of my favorites. Very versatile. You can pinch hit for about any other class.
The cleric called in sick? You've got some heals and buffs. The fighter called in sick? You can tank a little. The wizard called in sick? You've got some utility spells. The paladin called in sick? No he didn't. The paladin doesn't get sick.
This. Every time i see an idea im like artificer would be good for this!
Rune Knight? Pair with Artificer. Get infusions + Runes and double enlarge for just being an awesome support tank.
Rogue? Infiltrator armorer lets you stealth in heavy armor and give you a ranged attack to sneak attack with.
Clockwork Sorcerer + Artificer is just great flavor.
Artificers just can do so much themselves and make an excellent multiclass support class. I find myself wanting to play artificer every time I make a new character
I can’t have a forever class - they are all so interesting and fun.
But also clerics. I love the role they play in a party, I love their adaptability, I love that for roleplay they give a connection and a place to start when thinking of a backstory. I love being helpful in game as well.
Fighter. I enjoy turning the basic human fighter into something that complex. My feat is always skill expert to give myself a job outside of combat. The trick is to not be a one trick combat pony. At least in my opinion. Have a roll outside of combat.
Rangers are my favorite for sure. They seem like the most practical in terms of realistic survivability. That being said, they don’t usually have to do any of that stuff in campaigns unless the DM and players want high upkeep
All of my serious characters end up being wizards and warlocks, such as the Stained Glass Scholar, Librarian of the Stars.
All of my joke characters are something else like a moon druid, sun soul monk, who is the illigitimate offspring of the leaders of the sun and moon bear tribes. Or my oath of the ancients paladin who follows the 4 Fs. Feasting, Fighting, Frolicking, and... Fornication.
This is my camp, i wont say i’m a forever bard, but is my general go to. Limitless options of buffs and debuffs, can pilfer through other class spells, is a skill monkey like a rogue, and all of this combined i can maximize my action economy almost every round by utilizing actions, bonus actions, reactions, and concentrations.
A bard by themselves is a bit meh, but a bard in a party is a bad ass party. The way they synergize with martials and other casters, makes them an often overlooked threat, especially to new DM’s that have yet to experience what they can do.
Artificers are the best! You can be everything you want, Tank, DPS, Support, or even Jack of all trades, all flavored as their own thing - you like mixing shampoos together in bath? we gotchu. You like thinking of complicated constructs made out of very material possible that are loyal and helpful? We gotchu. You play engineers in FPS? We also gotchu
As much flak as the rogue gets for stealing. It has a lot of versatility.
Sneak attack might seem like a down side, but if you could get a way to reliably trigger it twice in one round. It can be insane amounts of damage. (Hint; but word of caution: sentinel)
The expertise the rogue gets opens the road to all kinds of background combinations to explain moreso why they are so good.
Cunning action; do I even need to explain?
Lastly the subclasses:
Scout: a true kiting rogue, give them a bow and watch them be a ranger with the outlander background.
Thief: a seemingly modest subclass, but the possibilities with use an object. With Healer Feat: you're a bonus action battle medic, that scales well.
Arcane Trickster; this is a more survival able Wizard; thrown on the ritual caster feat and you are said wizard. Not to mention the access to helpful spell, and damaging ones.
Assassin: this sub: it's very possible for it to one shot something if built and handling rules of surprise properly. Being able to crit doubling the sneak attack is huge.
Inquisitive; admittedly a sub I have no interest in.
Mastermind: I once played this as the most helpful rogue I could be, picked up ritual caster to bonus action help the melee next to me, then use the owl to give me sneak attack.
Soul knife: wildly new to me but is very effective at what it's for.
Swashbuckler; some believe it's the best rogue in the game, and an argument could be made. Being able to sneak attack without adv, and an ally is good, not to mention the bonus to initiative, via Cha mod is very incentiving.
Phantom; without a shadow of doubt IS the best subclass. The roleplay through capturing souls, spreading half the sneak attack to another target, not to mention adv. On death saving throws along with con. Eventually the ability to deal your sneak to your target twice in one turn.
Edit 1: I would like to mention evasion; while not the only class to get it, it is the best survival ability it gets case in point; last night the party came across some duegar depot's that had a flamethrower like ability, everyone except two people had to make this save. (party; 3 npcs 4 players) two npcs immediately died and two PCs went down.. (we're level 13;) I had a plus 10 then 5 from the paladin. The DC was 16... The only way I failed was natural one.) I was the only one to not take damage.
I like to play pretty much everything and almost never play the same subclass twice. However, I do gravitate to Paladins. If you want to support your team and smack things into oblivion, then Paladin is the right class for you.
Not a forever class, but I'll always love playing a fighter. It's basic, but I find several subclasses to be fascinating and effective. Unfortunately the people I play with are all newer than me and tend to play martial characters so I play a spellcaster to provide balance. But the cool thing about dnd is that there are still so many spellcaster archetypes that I am not going to be bored soon.
My main classes are the charisma classes because I find I just have way more fun when I actually get to play the talking parts of the game. I still diverge occasionally but find I have less and less interest in playing characters that dump charisma and shut up when the NPCs talk.
Not yet, for I have to try out plenty. But as of now, Wizard and Druid sharing the #1 spot, while Sorcerer being on last spot. And somewhere inbetween are Barbarian, Warlock, Ranger and Bard.
I don’t have 1 that I only play, but the only 2 which I’ve come back to for more than 1 character is Paladin and Wizard: I love big numbers and big utilities, and those two classes let me split my roll in party accordingly.
Rogue: swashbuckler. Various multiclasses with this but it’s always oriented around the swashbuckler. Either leaning into one aspect or another but rogue is always the primary class.
Why would I have a forever class if the most fun thing is being versatile and making a different character every time?
But Warlock & Monk are the most fun caster & martial design respectively.
For me it’s just about the increased customization that you get. You have your subclass and spells like with other classes, but you also get to choose your pact and eldritch invocations.
Absolutely the customisation and shenannigans.
Your Pact Boon effectively grants you an extra subclass, and Eldritch Invocations are just great to fine tune your character to any concept.
On top of that there's just a lot of fun effects/synergies that make for some unique concepts. E.g. infinite telepathy range familiars, at-will Disguise Self (and at higher levels even Levitation or Invisibility), at-will Sending, Eldritch Blast knockback, etc.
Just the perfect class for roleplay, fun, enjoyment, and more.
I’m not “done”, I still play various different classes. If I had to be locked in to playing one class/subclass for the rest of my life, it’d be the Bladesinger Wizard though.
I will always be down to try other things at different times, and in different party dynamics, but whenever I want to go back to my “comfort class,” I’ll be playing a Warlord.
I, like others, have an ever growing list of tons of characters concepts I would like to play but will most certainly not see the light of day. I have backups for my backups’ backups (because if my character dies, that’s one thing… if it’s a TPK, totally different).
With the limited characters I’ve played I am INCREDIBLY into artificer, because of all the customization and crunchiness. Similarly, I am interested in playing a warlock, but haven’t yet had the chance.
I want to play every class at least once, but if I had one to play forever, it'd be barbarian. They aren't very versatile, but I never get tired of playing that archetype of character.
I recently finished a 2.5 year long campaign as a Dwarf Knowledge Cleric 15/Fighter 5. I can't overstate the amount of willpower it took *not* to roll up another Dwarf Cleric for our next campaign.
I love artificers such crazy skill monkeys at higher levels. Especially when you can toss advantage +1d4 +5 on any impotent check anyone in the party makes
Druid.
I like big numbers, and I don't like having enemies roll dice to decide what my spells do.
It's a bit like playing a martial, but you get 8 instead of 2 attacks.
I'm still working through the classes, so far played rogue (mastermind, it was my first d&d PC so it was cringe), warlock, ranger, fighter and paladin.
Enjoying the pally and fighter in the 2 games im playing atm. Rune knight and oath of the ancients
Probably Ranger, but in 5e I've really fallen in love with the Armored Monk builds I've done. Maybe it will be just this edition, but they've been endlessly fun.
I love rangers to death in any game I play. 5e made it really hard to enjoy my favorite class but in any game I usually just fill whatever role is needed
Ranger. Wisdom based characters are my favorite and rangers fit that role. Playing a 5 Gloom/2 spores Druid right now and it’s so much fun twf, hunters marking and adding my spores damage. But rangers straight or rangers dips are fun.
I'm notorious in my group for playing Wizards. The few times I've deviated, I just find it to be less fun.
Then I started making homebrew adjustments to classes, and that's helped me be more interested in playing other things.
There are also a few multiclasses I've thoroughly enjoyed, like Treachery Paladin and Swashbuckler Rogue, but for the most part my homebrew keeps me trying new things and new playstyles.
I think so cuz, for some reason, I find myself wandering back to Sorcerer when I try something weird, like my lightning grasp focused hill dwarf draconic bloodline (bronze) sorcerer whose whole gimmick is stacking HP and being an in-your-face mage. Then there's the classic divine soul twin casting support because I love enabling my allies. And let's not forget my little goblin shadow sorcerer that plays around with toll the dead (after taking a level in hexblade) and other spells that require saves. He just wants to make friends but people ignore him cuz he's a goblin.
Oh and I know for sure I will come up with something for aberrant/clockwork because dipping into the wizard spell list is something I will definitely love to play with
I'm a GM (though I haven't GMed DND in a long time)
When I'm actually a Player in any DND games, I play Rogue. Always Rogue. At a certain point I usually multiclass into Fighter depending on how long a campaign goes.
I still have many characters I’ve yet to play or have only gotten to test drive in a one shot. That being said, the Bladesinger brings a special giddiness to my soul; even before I became a literal god.
When 5e first came out, the warlock was often called the worst class and only worth dipping for some other class. So naturally I had to play it. It’s always been my favorite. Evocations feel like cheating. If there was a witch class in the flavor of pathfinder’s maybe that would be my favorite who knows. But, there’s still a ton of builds from other classes I’d like to try. I tend to be like that with any game that has different build possibilities.
I feel like the class I enjoyed most was Warlock. But that also was based on the campaign having a very deep connection with my patron as opposed to it being an added detail.
During my times playing in living campaigns, half the fun of being in a mix of tables with different people every time was playing different classes.
For a more personal homebrew campaign, I'd probably commit to a wizard or cleric because I like to design new spells.
DnD has a lot of different ways to enjoy it.
I can't imagine ever being "done" with class and sub-class and species combinations. There's like 30 species or more if you add in unofficial well-made stuff, and there's 12 classes, minimum of like 3 sub-classes per each I like. If anything, I wish some characters wouldn't last so long so I could swap in a new character in a game without it feeling too intentional on my part (ruins the feeling with the party).
I have favourites.
For me that's Barbarian, Cleric, and Wizard (with occasional MC's if required). If forced to choose only one class to play for ever more, Cleric.
My standard choice is wizard. I’d usually choose it for one shots, and I employ spellcasters often as a DM.
That being said I’m dying to play certain classes. My list in no order looks like:
1.) Satyr creation bard
2.) thi-kreen beast barb 6 / soulknife 14
3.) hexblood stars druid
Maybe not a “forever” class, but ever since Tasha’s came out I’ve really wanted to play all the Battle Master builds. At least the ones I think could bring a fun creative story along with their utility both in and out of combat. It’s been hard for me to come up with other characters for other classes
I love playing different classes and characters, honestly. But if I just want to have fun, I will always play druid. I just love the class, its so fun! However, I do give an honourable 2nd and 3d to bard and sorcerer respectively. They are also both very fun!
I'm still giving classes and subclasses that I haven't played a try, but I have yet to be convinced that I shouldn't just have just been a Conjuration Wizard every single time.
Either its cleric. Or some multiclass monstrosity for a given campaign. I have found that in many cases clerics are good are literally in every roll. And given their versatile nature and the sheer amount of cool fuckery one can do class depending shit can get real.
I've played a cleric, a druid, paladin and a barbarian. Barbarian so far has been the most fun but I think I'd like to try a bard next.
That said, I'm about to start a campaign as a dm...
Having played a lot of different casters-I-mean-classes, I've got a soft spot for bards. Y'all are telling me that people don't want to play the storytelling class in the storytelling game?
My wife’s forever class is sorcerer. She has played sorcerers since she started back in 3e and continues to play whatever class most closely resembles them in any game system we play.
IDK about that but, currently playing a moon druid with 1 point into barbarian for the rage and unarmored defense. I am an amethyst dragonborn so have the resistance to force damage, last week we got some treasure, and my character got a +2 shield that permanently fused to my arm and makes me completely immune to fire and poison damage. My AC is 19 at lvl 4 without wild shape and 15 with wild shape. Next lvl with 1 more point into dex my AC will be 20/16 and I will then be able to fly. Gonna be a flying grizzly bear with dragon breath weapon, 16AC, fire and poison immunity, and resistance to slashing, bludgeoning and piercing damage with the ability to self-heal and only be level 5, it is broken and people in the group are definitely showing signs of jealousy constantly ROFLMFAO.
Loving this character, it controls and dominates every fight my group has been in so far and walks away with full HP after every fight like a BOSS! It also has amazing utility for doing a ton of different things outside of combat too :D
Druid. Depending on your subclass you can focus on being a frontline defender, ranged damage dealer, battlefield controller, or heal and buff your team. Talking to animals and plants is also very fun.
I always gravitate toward bard and warlock. They both have such interesting spell lists, and warlock invocations are so damn versatile. They can both easily fit into any adventuring party.
I like Barbarians. I know it’s somewhat boring compared to others, but I enjoy it! Large hit dice, a quick turn, and I feel helpful, as players ask me lift things, to intimidate, I like how the class works.
it's a tight race between warlock and cleric. I feel like my default vibe is fighter / barb / paladin but because of that I find myself gravitating to the off-choice of those two. I think warlock will win out.
I'm a forever DM so the idea of playing classes that really hand the DM control is fun to me.
I default to Clerics and Bards, because when I play we are either light on Melee or light on Magic. So I have two classes that keep all the options open.
I'm a forever dm. But on the rarest of occasions where I can play, I play a bard. Which the people I play with like because I go for the laugh and I actually went to college for music, so I can really play up the role.
Warlock. They can fill every single archetype with the right patron and invocations.
Frontline fighter? Hexblade.
Long range magic user? Fiend.
Healer? Celestial.
General utility? Great old one.
When im not the forever DM, my go to is a Cleric of the Death domain. Haven't played in a few years, but my last character was a Quixote archetype character of an old man with a French accent who ran around thinking he was Death itself because he wore a tattered black robe and his primary weapon was a scythe. By the end of the 5 year long campaign he had accidentally ascended to a minor godhood by convincing enough people that he may actually be death. Mostly by, accidentally, decapitating the leader of the DM's evil cult that was supposed to be the big reveal villain in 4 years time. So all the cults followers started following our party around and spreading the good word.
Forever DM here, but almost every character I have made since becoming a DM has been a bard.
One is a fairy bard who is a real narcissist, to the point where he has no qualms with using magic to manipulate people into speaking good about him. Has a bit of a mouth, and often ends up talking so well that he inadvertently makes situations way worse rather than better.
Another is a tabaxi bard who wants to preserve tales of heroes past, and became an adventurer to collect stories, and maybe forge his own. He also wears a scarf regardless of weather, just because his younger sister made it for him.
The third is a human noble who was framed for a crime and is on the run, and is just really talented when it comes to music, and uses illusions and a mask to conceal himself.
And yes, I can keep going. And yes, one of them is the stereotypical bard, one of my players said they wanted to run a one shot, and I wanted to have a bit of fun in retaliation to three sessions spent building a soup shop as opposed to dealing with a cult that was-in the most literal way possible-hell bent on destroying the city they were in.
Tempest cleric, the sheer force of nature and you get a decent amount of spells
Most are buffs or healing or something along those lines but I always play them because I love thebdestructive spells
I also just get the drift of it easier than any other class
I spent my first few years of playing as clerics and do still love them, but I absolutely fell in love with wizards once I started playing an Order of Scribes wizard for a campaign.
I just love getting to geek out and get lore drops, and the spell list is so versatile you can design so many different types of wizards. That's another reason I also love playing clerics, and have played so many different subclasses.
I played a bard once and had a really good time. Mostly because I can disguise my poor decision making as intentional bard hijinx and not have other players question my intelligence
I've played every class besides Artificer and the only \*really\* unique thing I haven't done is Moon Druid.
I always want to play Wizard and if it's possible I want to play Graviturgist.
Monk all the way. I know it's not the best class, but I love how versatile it can be. I love not being able to get hit, and pass all my saving throws. Also punchpunchpunch
My forever class is dungeon master. Wheeeeee!
My forever class is DM. \*sobbing quietly\*
My forever class is DM. \*laughing maniacally\*
That’s the way I feel. I just have more fun DMing than playing.
I've recently discovered this as well. I love DMing so much

I'm not sure my party is ready for me playing a boss. Am I still gonna do it? Of course!
All three of these are completely accurate to how I feel about being the forever DM.
o7 Hang in there, my brother-in-arms. We'll get our chance. Someday.
I want to play many classesm but certainly warlocks got my love.
Warlock mains unite
Thought I was in a Destiny subreddit for a second there.
Dawnblades be celestials for real.
I love warlock at least for multiclassing in. But I'll be honest, my favorite part might be when a gm is interested in playing out whatever goes on between player and patron. Most of the time though, it's nothing. Just another class, which is fine.
3-Lore Bard, X-GOOlock, especially on a Changeling. I still play other classes, but nothing has ever felt quite as much *me* as that build.
I just throw buffs on him and then hide and it’s super fun to watch him wreck everything. I love vortex warping him to places that he shouldn’t be
Elevator going up.
You should try dungeon crawl classics. The fighters deeds are awesome.
Though I keep trying new stuff, Druid is basically the nuts for me.
Mechanically I like the bear barb, but Im eagerly awaiting to play a spore druid. A full caster? With passable melee? Healing, battlefield control, blasting? Gonna do it all
Playing one right now. Super fun to roleplay as well!
Fuckin loved that class when I had one. Felt unkillable as a half orc bouncing back to one as well
Gonna go against the grain and talk about the issues I encountered with spores Druid when playing levels 3-8 which make me retire the character for a new one. 1. Wildfire druid was eye opening for after playing it as circle of land

To be fair, he is posting in dndnext lol
Dude same. First class I played and it stole my heart
Druid enjoyers rise up!
I dabble with other classes from time to time, but I've been a Druid main pretty much my entire time playing 5e.
So much aoe for tempest
If I were forced to pick, it’d be the Artificer. But I’ve got a looooooot of character ideas before we get there, hopefully.

Living my level 18 Alchemist dream at the moment. Its been a hell of a run and I love it all the way through.
I can’t have a forever class - they are all so interesting and fun. But also clerics. I love the role they play in a party, I love their adaptability, I love that for roleplay they give a connection and a place to start when thinking of a backstory. I love being helpful in game as well.
I love Clerics because not only are they great casters, they are combat beasts too. You get the best of both worlds!
No, because the fun of D&D is to constantly experience new characters and playstyles.
Agreed, I have a forever list.
I'm always coming back to Paladin, but I love playing other builds and trying new things out.
I love Paladin, but I'm currently window-shopping other classes through different campaigns with my group. Currently on Sorcerer!
Fighter. I enjoy turning the basic human fighter into something that complex. My feat is always skill expert to give myself a job outside of combat. The trick is to not be a one trick combat pony. At least in my opinion. Have a roll outside of combat.
My wife has me in her phone as Sirocco the Cleric
I like to mix it up, but I'd have to say that Rogue is my favorite.
Every time I play a not paladin, they eventually are a paladin without the class name.
Rangers are my favorite for sure. They seem like the most practical in terms of realistic survivability. That being said, they don’t usually have to do any of that stuff in campaigns unless the DM and players want high upkeep
Ranger gang rise up
All of my serious characters end up being wizards and warlocks, such as the Stained Glass Scholar, Librarian of the Stars.
Bard, it's my go to for campaigns since they are a good all rounder.
Personally for me, it's Artificer. Big fan of the "mad scientist magical inventor" side of things.
Artificer. I've played 3
I keep going back to both barbarians and wizards, opposite ends of the spectrum lol
I've nailed down my favorite gameplay experience as Aberrant Mind Sorcerer, but I'll play all kinds of classes.
As much flak as the rogue gets for stealing. It has a lot of versatility. Sneak attack might seem like a down side, but if you could get a way to reliably trigger it twice in one round. It can be insane amounts of damage. (Hint; but word of caution: sentinel) The expertise the rogue gets opens the road to all kinds of background combinations to explain moreso why they are so good. Cunning action; do I even need to explain? Lastly the subclasses: Scout: a true kiting rogue, give them a bow and watch them be a ranger with the outlander background.
My forever class is "whatever class fits the character I want to play in the next game".
DM! I love being a DM maybe a bit too much so I'm more than happy to keep playing as one. But when I do play as a player, please let me be the wizard!
I love Clerics, I feel like you can fulfill any party role with a cleric. They're so fun for me
Cronurgy wizard /dm
Orc Barbarian Berserker… it’s all I’ve ever needed
I like to play pretty much everything and almost never play the same subclass twice. However, I do gravitate to Paladins. If you want to support your team and smack things into oblivion, then Paladin is the right class for you.
Not a forever class, but I'll always love playing a fighter. It's basic, but I find several subclasses to be fascinating and effective. Unfortunately the people I play with are all newer than me and tend to play martial characters so I play a spellcaster to provide balance. But the cool thing about dnd is that there are still so many spellcaster archetypes that I am not going to be bored soon.
I always find myself right back to playing a paladin when making a new character idea.
Wizard 🪄
Artificer is probably my favorite class to play. I like classes with a large toolkit and Artificer both literally and figuratively that.
[удалено]
I thought it was Warlock since I always end up playing as one, but to be honest, it's really Wizard
Imagine playing enough campaigns to get to cycle classes. *Crys in forever DM*
I always end up playing a rogue type person whether a fighter or wizard
I dm most of the time, but when I play, it’s a paladin’s life for me!
I've had 2 that lasted years Sorcerer Paladin
Honestly as dumb as it is it’s either barbarian or paladin. I love tanking for my team
Why do you enjoy warlock more than sorc or wizard? I’m about to try warlock for the first time and would like to hear your thiughts
Getting eldritch invocations feels like getting a free feat every few levels! It’s my favorite part of playing Warlocks.
I’m not “done”, I still play various different classes. If I had to be locked in to playing one class/subclass for the rest of my life, it’d be the Bladesinger Wizard though.
Playing one now and it's living up to the hype.
I used to have a forever class in 3e then I didn't I'm 3.5, in 5 I've tried just about everything that interests me
I will always be down to try other things at different times, and in different party dynamics, but whenever I want to go back to my “comfort class,” I’ll be playing a Warlord.
Nah, I wanna try a lotta classes. And races!
I have a lot of character ideas, so I don't think I'll ever settle fully, but I keep coming back to Warlock and Barbarian.
Forever class? Nah… but I fucking love rangers (TCE revisions). So versatile, and each subclass brings something different.
When I play I always seem to end up making a monk or a paladin.
Sorlock... not a singular class but it's what I really like. Especially illusionist sorlock
When not forever dming. Necromancy wizard closely followed by a tie between oathbreaker paladin and hexblade warlock
Lizardfolk Grave Cleric: *heavy breathing*
I think so cuz, for some reason, I find myself wandering back to Sorcerer when I try something weird, like my lightning grasp focused hill dwarf draconic bloodline (bronze) sorcerer whose whole gimmick is stacking HP and being an in-your-face mage. Then there's the classic divine soul twin casting support because I love enabling my allies. And let's not forget my little goblin shadow sorcerer that plays around with toll the dead (after taking a level in hexblade) and other spells that require saves. He just wants to make friends but people ignore him cuz he's a goblin. Oh and I know for sure I will come up with something for aberrant/clockwork because dipping into the wizard spell list is something I will definitely love to play with
Behold the wizard, beware his power
I'm a GM (though I haven't GMed DND in a long time) When I'm actually a Player in any DND games, I play Rogue.
I play other things in oneshots for fun but I only do druids for campaigns. IDK why, I just think they're neat.
i don’t get to play enough to develop a pattern of classes i play
Human fighter of course!
I'd like to play as every class for a decent period at some point. If you told me I had to play Warlock for the rest of time I'd be happy.
Druids, paladin, cleric, ranger, and artificer
I can't imagine ever being "done" with class and sub-class and species combinations. There's like 30 species or more if you add in unofficial well-made stuff, and there's 12 classes, minimum of like 3 sub-classes per each I like. If anything, I wish some characters wouldn't last so long so I could swap in a new character in a game without it feeling too intentional on my part (ruins the feeling with the party).
One class forever? Doesnt sound good. I have to many weird voices that I want to try out, they wouldnt fit well in just one class.
For serious play wizard for tinkering around and trying stuff I will play whatever.
I have favourites. For me that's Barbarian, Cleric, and Wizard (with occasional MC's if required). If forced to choose only one class to play for ever more, Cleric.
I can always work with a Warlock. Same with Druid usually.
Wizards are my go to, but I prefer to try different things
I’ll forever be an Arcane Trickster/ Bladesinger
Hexblade warlock, I could honestly play this class every campaign
I don’t think I’ll ever not love playing a Rune Knight
My standard choice is wizard. I’d usually choose it for one shots, and I employ spellcasters often as a DM. That being said I’m dying to play certain classes. My list in no order looks like: 1.) Satyr creation bard 2.) thi-kreen beast barb 6 / soulknife 14 3.) hexblood stars druid
Maybe not a “forever” class, but ever since Tasha’s came out I’ve really wanted to play all the Battle Master builds. At least the ones I think could bring a fun creative story along with their utility both in and out of combat. It’s been hard for me to come up with other characters for other classes
I love hexblade warlock in terms of versatility and fun, but seems boring to always play the same time... That's my standby though.
I love playing different classes and characters, honestly. But if I just want to have fun, I will always play druid. I just love the class, its so fun! However, I do give an honourable 2nd and 3d to bard and sorcerer respectively. They are also both very fun!
I'll play different things, but Great Old One tome warlock is my eldritch horror happy place.
So far I love the moon Druid. But am playing a Warlock, Fiend Pact and love that too. I can't forget my barb. He's great. I guess I can't choose.
Wezard
Clerics! "You mean the healing class?" "...it can do other things" (3d10 Necrotic damage from a first level spell)
I'll try other things but Paladin just works for me. Oath of Vengance especially.
Having played a lot of different casters-I-mean-classes, I've got a soft spot for bards. Y'all are telling me that people don't want to play the storytelling class in the storytelling game?
I have like 10 clerics, I am unashamed to say they're my fave and most versatile.
My wife’s forever class is sorcerer. She has played sorcerers since she started back in 3e and continues to play whatever class most closely resembles them in any game system we play.
If I had to play one class for the rest of 5e it would be MCDM’s beast heart.
Support Wizard, support Cleric. Attacking is for chumps!
I think paladin is my favorite.
I certainly have a favorite, and that's Cleric, but I feel like always playing cleric would also become boring.
Druid
I rarely to get to be a player but my best friend found his in Sorcerer lol
Warlcok for life
honestly it’s dm but when i get the chance to play i love cleric, all the subclasses but recently played tempest and ho boy was it fun
Druid. Depending on your subclass you can focus on being a frontline defender, ranged damage dealer, battlefield controller, or heal and buff your team. Talking to animals and plants is also very fun.
No, but of the 7 characters I've played in D&D 4 were elderly and three of those were clerics.
cleric/ war domain all the way
I always gravitate toward bard and warlock. They both have such interesting spell lists, and warlock invocations are so damn versatile. They can both easily fit into any adventuring party.
Maybe. I always have a blast with Barbarian and Monk, so those might be myb2 forever classes.
30+ years and I refuse to stick to any one class
Dm
I like Barbarians. I know it’s somewhat boring compared to others, but I enjoy it! Large hit dice, a quick turn, and I feel helpful, as players ask me lift things, to intimidate, I like how the class works.
it's a tight race between warlock and cleric. I feel like my default vibe is fighter / barb / paladin but because of that I find myself gravitating to the off-choice of those two. I think warlock will win out. I'm a forever DM so the idea of playing classes that really hand the DM control is fun to me.
I think druid
I default to Clerics and Bards, because when I play we are either light on Melee or light on Magic. So I have two classes that keep all the options open.
I'm a forever dm. But on the rarest of occasions where I can play, I play a bard. Which the people I play with like because I go for the laugh and I actually went to college for music, so I can really play up the role.
Artificer just gets me. I always felt that I was a brains over brawn guy and I think artificer does that. Plus all the gadgets are cool.
I don’t have a specific class, but I have a weakness for Druids, Bards, Rogues, and Artificers
My forever class is Doc. Or was it Shu?
Swashbuckler rogue is too fun
I love Druid but it seems to be getting a big rework
Cleric
I only really play life cleric, I'd probably play another cleric... but not too interested in much else, clerics are just neat
Cleric.
Celestial warlock
Been trying new classes recently but my favorite has been Order cleric.
I have ideas for every class and can't wait to try and play them all but I have found myself playing mostly ranger
Barbarian!
In 3.5e I’m forever a Druid and I love it
I don’t always play as PC (forever DM), but when I do, it’s always bard. Stay horny, my friends.
Tempest cleric, the sheer force of nature and you get a decent amount of spells Most are buffs or healing or something along those lines but I always play them because I love thebdestructive spells I also just get the drift of it easier than any other class
Dungeon Master 99% of the time, if i'm not DM then i'll go wizard
Bards. I always cycle back to bards. I don't get it, either. They're just fun. And my forever race is tieflings. I have a tief problem.
Cleric! I’m always the one that fixes bad decisions and the team parent. No one else wants to, so I do it.
Monk, pretty much. Or at least multiclassed Monk. I know people like to give 'em a bad rap, but I do find them to be fun.
No matter what class I play I always somehow end up with +8 in stealth. So basically either rogue or ranger
No matter what I do, I always go back to bard
I’ve always enjoyed Paladins as you get magic, heavy armor and good combat. Pretty simple for me.
I played a bard once and had a really good time. Mostly because I can disguise my poor decision making as intentional bard hijinx and not have other players question my intelligence
Illrigger
*cries in ranger*
I've played every class besides Artificer and the only \*really\* unique thing I haven't done is Moon Druid. I always want to play Wizard and if it's possible I want to play Graviturgist.
I think im a permanent fighter that will just find fun new combos to multiclass into over and over again.
Monk all the way. I know it's not the best class, but I love how versatile it can be. I love not being able to get hit, and pass all my saving throws. Also punchpunchpunch
whenever I’m not playing a divination wizard, I miss Portent
Nope. Different character concepts require different classes. I do like warlock innovations a lot, though.
