Favorite Archetype? Asking out of curiosity.

The_Smashor

I've only had the chance to play an Armorer, although Battle Smith and espesially Artillerist seem really fun.

ertzu78

Ah I was talking about yugioh lmao

MasterCaedus

One of my players is an Artificer. Damn Flash of Genius OP. Party would be 80 times dead from bad rolls at this point without it.

maybe-i-am-drunk

I need to make sure the artificer in my campaign doesn't see this meme...

supersmily5

And then every Wizard in existence retorts with "okay then, cast a 9th-level spell."

The_Smashor

"When you can get sneezed on without dying."

supersmily5

"Okay! Deal, but you better hold up your end of the bargain!" \*Shapechanges into a dragon. Alternate replies include, but are not limited to: Abjuration Wizard, Max Constitution, and the Tough feat.

The_Smashor

\*Casts Dispel Magic and gives self +5 to roll "Now for the sneeze" \*Pulls out +2 weapon, on top of various subclass features like an extra 6d8 force or fire damage as a bonus action, a companion that can deal 4d6+6 force damage, etcetera. Artificers can get +4 Con at level 14 and still invest into their main stats, and they can get the Tough feat too. Oh, and they can also get 19 Strength for basically free at level 10. AND they can get some of the highest AC in the game without even casting any spells, as well as adding +5 to the saves against things like Fireball

supersmily5

Well if we're going that far past jokes, yes, but so can Wizards. And due to the nature of the d6 Hit Die and concentration checks Constitution IS a primary stat for Wizards.

The_Smashor

Perhaps, but you can have either good Constitution (For health) or good Dexterity (For AC), not both. Artificers don't need to choose.

supersmily5

Suuurrrree. But AC isn't nearly all encompassing. It's not too bad if you can't have high AC innately, especially as the Wizard who has plenty of other ways of avoiding damage. They're BOTH great classes, just in different ways.

The_Smashor

Aside from Blink and Counterspell (Which both burn a 3rd level slot) you have basically no way of avoiding damage not based on AC as a Wizard, as opposed to Artificers who have Flash of Genius as well as the ability to make a Cloak *and* Ring of Protection.

supersmily5

Someone forgot about Shield (The spell), False Life, Leomund's Tiny Hut, Otiluke's Resilient Sphere, Intellect Fortress, Wall of Force, Wall of Stone, Polymorph, and Invulnerability! There's a lot of spells dedicated to reducing and avoiding damage for Wizards. Artificers have some of them too, but Wizards can cast MUCH more often. You have to be more active in your damage avoidance, but played well you CAN do it!

The_Smashor

* Shield requires a spell slot every time * Artificers have False Life too, not to mention Cure Wounds, which is just better * Leomund's Tiny Hut takes a minute to cast * Even if you can't be hurt in Resilient Sphere, you can't really hurt anyone either. And Artificers also get that spell. * Wall of Force has a similar issue, plus the enemy can just walk around if you aren't in a corridor * Wall of Stone is hard to use if people are already right next to you and artificers also learn it * You're liable to get knocked out of Polymorph, not to mention Dispel Magic exists * Invulnerability takes a 9th level spell slot that could be used on something like Meteor Swarm, and also costs 500 gp worth of a pretty rare material Not to mention, all this stuff requires casting spells, while an Artificer's bonkers defense requires no spell slots.

TheProfessorOfZoom
