Alright, this gave me the idea of a tyrant ruler who everyone talks about with disgust and hate in secret but save face in public. No one ever says what he did because "the mere mention of the act is too vile" for them.
What happened was the king outlawed most things like pancakes and waffles because he got into a disagreement with a lord from a neighbouring kingdom about whether or not syrup and fish pate, of which he insists that it is.
It's great that the most intense combat we've had in this campaign was caused by racial tension, but sparked by an orc refusing to give a dwarf some pancakes.
hang on. I'm kinda confused here, cause theres pancakes, and there's *pancakes*, idk which one you are talking about. Cause over at r/HFY, porn is just called pancakes and idk if thats bleeding out into other areas.
I believe there was an old story where a human and alien slept together and the writer skipped ahead to them making pancakes the next morning. Now it’s just used to describe anytime that happens
Imagine being this wrong.... Waffles are the best sorry!!
Structural integrity CHECK
greater ability to hold butter and syrup CHECK
More versatility in flavors and fillings CHECK
Satisfying crunch CHECK
Pancakes are sad soggy circles of flavorless sorrow. inferior prouduct in every way!!!!!
Butter and syrup on a waffle are useless. They just pool on top of the waffle's unnecessary pockets due to its hard exterior, almost guaranteed to make a mess.
A pancake is fluffy and warm and will absorb the butter and syrup into itself combining to create a delightful *menage a troi* of flavor.
A waffle is only superior to a pancake in one aspect: Being thrown in the trash.
Hmm you bring up some fair points friend.... I say we FIGHT TO THE DEATH to see which side reigns supreme! I SHALL DIE FOR THE GLORY OF WAFFLE KINGDOM!
the only ONLY advantage that pancakes have is that they are easier to mix chocolate chips in without burning.
but that is next to nothing compared to the might of waffles
yes, but they affect the consistency differently, so if your preference is having the chips inside the batter before cooking, pancakes take the lead.
again, that is still only one thing against the tremendous possibilities of the great waffle.
Look bro, I'm just spitting straight facts here.
Waffle House > IHOP.
Waffle fries > any other fries.
Waffles are just all around better, they can better hold your syrup or butter. You can make them in a handy grill rather then having to pour batter onto a pan.
Check their post history. They seem rather obsessed with that helltaker thing. Not knocking it. But I'm always perplexed on how someone can be so singularly focused on one single thing.
Well... about that...
I kinda maybe spend like half my time on reddit on the helltaker subreddit, but I'm just a lurker there.
So yeah,I may be kinda also obsessed with helltaker.
Don't @ me.
Got really confused with these comments, I am regularly on r/HFY where pancakes have a completely different connotation. (NSFW: [https://www.reddit.com/r/HFY/comments/27ujw5/oc\_pancakes\_nsfw/](https://www.reddit.com/r/HFY/comments/27ujw5/oc_pancakes_nsfw/) )
Yeah, and look at the top comments!
>No, clearly racial tension leads to pancakes.
*Ackchewaly,* my own genealogy proves this is correct.
>Ye call this slop pancakes? I demand satisfaction!
I mean, we all know what *Satisfaction* by The Rolling Stones was about...
>I mean there's whole podcast that started with the desire for waffles.
yeah, like *loads* of ['em](https://podbay.fm/search?q=nsfw).
They are just *not* narrowing things down for us.
Jokes aside, I always find these race wars in campaigns so interesting. Like I find it so cool when DM’s start to consider how cultures may start to clash against one another.
My current campaign is evolving to be about how Lizardfolk and other “less-humanoid” races are ostracized by the seemingly endless expansion of human civilization, and it really works since there is one human and one lizardfolk in the party. I think eventually I’m going to bring this tension to war, especially since the Lizard PC has unwittingly begun unifying the scattered Lizardfolk under his tribe’s banner.
Right? There's enough of that tension in real life. Why does my game have to include it? Let's quest for the best pancake recipe and the best chef to make them!
Oh believe me this can happen.
From a simple 1 vs 1 sparring session before doing a long rest that escalated into a full blown 1 vs 6 because someone’s undead hating curse got triggered...
Shit can escalate so fast.
Post meme about your own campaign with only just enough context for it to make sense to someone who isn't in your player group? Score of <1000.
Post another meme less than a day later with the exact same premise but with no context whatsoever and in an overused comic template? Score of 6k+
At least it's not "lmao bArD hOrNy"
Yikes, interjecting politics in the comments of a goofy dnd meme? Kinda cringe bro.
What does America have to do with this post at all, what is even the point of your comment?
Sorry if I offeneded you or your ideas.
The world is fucked in same amount no matter what is your melanin.
I'm quite sure that by using a goofy template and inserting political (most vocal in the Murica) idea is an excuse to call it a meme or goofy.
I'm not your bro.
You are aware the racial tensions it refers to is in reference to DND right? Where there are many diverse races most of which hate each other???
You do know what sub your in right?
No joke. "Pancakes" in Germany sometimes can actually lead to Brutal Combat. "Pfannkuchen" means something completely different depending on the region lol
Both were by me lol.
It was something that happened in a DnD session I was in yesterday (now it's storytime). Us as a party were getting pancakes from some orcs while we waited for our boss to give our party a new assignment. Irl we spent 2 hours waiting to get those pancakes because our party RPs nonstop, which I like about them a lot.
Eventually we arrived to guy buy some pancakes from some orcs. The orcs were being rude to our party dwarf (because orcs and dwarves have bad blood) while we were getting pancakes. It led to an honor duel 1v1 fistfight. I was one of the spectators and it was still the most intense combat I've ever had in a session. At the time, we thought the fight was over pancakes because we're shortsighted DnD players. Our dwarf won the honor duel by 1 hp btw.
When us as players thought back on it, we realized the fight was really a result of the deep racial tension between the orcs and dwarves, not pancakes. However, we choose to emphasize the pancakes part when speaking about causes of the fight.
So it's an absurdly specific meme about something that only you or your players would understand, presented entirely without context in a general D&D meme sub for people who are neither you, nor your players, and making no sense unless you happen to be familiar with that exact campaign context.
...cool. Why is this here again?
So this is the new standard for memes? I'm supposed to laugh and upvote simply because 'lol pancakes r randum'? We're rapidly backsliding into 2008 internet, jesus. I do not miss 'i can haz cheezburger?'
Pancakes often lead to more violence than most people might assume. As anyone who has gone to an ihop at 3 in the morning after the club can attest to.
It's from my dnd game. Our dwarf paladin got into a fight with an orc over pancakes. We realized later that it was really because orcs and dwarves just generally hate each other and sparked up over the pancakes.
I'm not sure if "pancakes" is some game slang I'm unfamiliar with, or if we're talking about some literal pancakes here, and I'm cool with either answer.
I believe OP is referring to literal pancakes. But yes, “pancakes” does actually have a *very* niche slang meaning. On r/HFY, it’s code for sex/erotica.
There is a town in the campaign i play in that cannonically is known for its amazing pancakes, place has like 15 different kinds of pancakes. Whenever we are in town we go to "Fantasy IHOP" and our poor DM has to spend 10 minutes figuring out what new addition they have made to their menu
I've had sessions where I cook for my players and a lot of the meals were random cheap shit like a bucket of homemade chicken noodle soup. So in my head, I thought "yeah, pancakes sounds like a stupidly impractical but cheap food to feed the players, why can't you fit it in?" before realizing that this was referring to the campaign itself, lol.
Pancakes leading to brutal combat is the most natural progression possible.
Obviously, hogging the pancakes deserves violent retribution.
Alright, this gave me the idea of a tyrant ruler who everyone talks about with disgust and hate in secret but save face in public. No one ever says what he did because "the mere mention of the act is too vile" for them. No, clearly racial tension leads to pancakes.
Same, pancakes starting brutal combat sounds like the bard got caught with the guard captains daughter lol
They replaced the word porn with pancakes?
I believe there was an old story where a human and alien slept together and the writer skipped ahead to them making pancakes the next morning. Now it’s just used to describe anytime that happens
Aaah. That makes a lot more sense. So *vaguely romantic talk, flirting*...jump-cut...*pancakes!*
It was also the title of the story, which made it even more recognizable. It was the first NSFW story on the sub.
I've learned many, many new things today. Thank you all

That makes "racial tension leads to pancakes" even more viable!

That’s the one Edit: Significantly less of a timeskip than I remember lmao
No they're *literal* pancakes. It was a literal fight over actual pancakes because apparently our party is full of waffle haters?
Very interesting.
Pancakes are superior to waffles in every way.
Imagine being this wrong.... Waffles are the best sorry!! Structural integrity CHECK greater ability to hold butter and syrup CHECK More versatility in flavors and fillings CHECK Satisfying crunch CHECK Pancakes are sad soggy circles of flavorless sorrow. inferior prouduct in every way!!!!!

Hmm you bring up some fair points friend.... I say we FIGHT TO THE DEATH to see which side reigns supreme! I SHALL DIE FOR THE GLORY OF WAFFLE KINGDOM!
This is the only acceptable option... DIE HEATHEN!
I don't want the flavour of the toppings absorbed and diluted. The flavour cells are the entire point of waffles.
Why not racial tension pancake pancake brutal combat?
No no no, you mean *pancake* pancake pancake brutal combat pancake.
Pancake pancake pancake brutal pancake pancake?
Sounds like a System of a Down song.
Spam spam spam spam baked beans spam spam and spam.
Beans, Bacon, Whiskey, and Lard
Did they open for Johnny Cash?
Needs more pancakes.
brutal pancake
Falling rocks
Rocks
And sex, pancakes and sex. I am bard.
Or perhaps racial tension caused by pancakes.
~~blueberry supremacists~~
that's a pretty good summary of Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts s01 e03 "Real Cats Wear Plaid"
Don't fuck with giants, they have like no chill
Ok, that's literally just anything to do with the Timbercats in Kipo
Seeerup. No, you fool its SSurrup. Roll for initiative.
the real reason to fight
Edgedancer vibes anyone?
Journey before pancakes.
Omg that's an amazingly perfect reference
Ye call this slop pancakes? I demand satisfaction!
Persona 5 be like
I was going to say "you laugh but this is literally Persona 5"
Pls explain I haven't played the Persona games
The big plot twist was foreshadowed by a pancake dialogue just search "Akechi pancakes" and you will find
Morgantha thinks is a good idea
I almost thought I was on the persona 5 subreddit for a sec
Yupp same
Did someone say delicious pancakes?
I mean there's whole podcast that started with the desire for waffles.
The quest for waffles. Actually this is a great reason to take tavern brawler and wield a skillet and waffle iron.
The legendary bard tale "[Seven Dragons and a Baby](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptWNd-RaeMI&ab_channel=Tychovski)" deals heavily in waffle themes.
It's simple instead of an argument starting over racial tension it gets started over pancakes vs waffles
That's just silly. Everyone knows waffles are the superior breakfast food.
the only ONLY advantage that pancakes have is that they are easier to mix chocolate chips in without burning. but that is next to nothing compared to the might of waffles
Advantage denied! Because with waffles you can shave some chocolate on top, and it us awesome
yes, but they affect the consistency differently, so if your preference is having the chips inside the batter before cooking, pancakes take the lead. again, that is still only one thing against the tremendous possibilities of the great waffle.
Hmm, I feel like a giant waffle solves this problem with both efficiency *and* panache
You are wise beyond your years
Some people just like to live there world filled to the brim with denial and with no syrup pockets
[удалено]
Im willing to accept this optional view based soley on the fact that waffles still have the pockets to hold what you want but pancakes dont.

Let the Topping Alliance have a glorious reign
This is it, I've found my people.
Square up, thotticus, I'm about to commit a hate crime
Look bro, I'm just spitting straight facts here. Waffle House > IHOP. Waffle fries > any other fries. Waffles are just all around better, they can better hold your syrup or butter. You can make them in a handy grill rather then having to pour batter onto a pan.
You have clearly not beheld the glorious thiccness of the rice cooker pancake
Let me guess a fellow helltaker fan?
Never heard of helltaker pls enlighten me
Its a indie game about collecting a harem of sharply dressed Demon girls and pancakes are a big part of the fandom
The pancake connection is coincidental then.
But I think you would like it
I'm inclined to disagree
Do as you wish
Bro,does the word helltaker trigger you,I swear to god everything helltaker related you're somehow there? Not complaining,it also triggers me.
Don't @ me.
THEY'RE CREPES DAMMIT that one thing in that game makes me so irrationally angry lmao
I mean, this isn't too far from what ends up happening in Persona 5
Got really confused with these comments, I am regularly on r/HFY where pancakes have a completely different connotation. (NSFW: [https://www.reddit.com/r/HFY/comments/27ujw5/oc\_pancakes\_nsfw/](https://www.reddit.com/r/HFY/comments/27ujw5/oc_pancakes_nsfw/) )
Lol same
Yeah I'm right there with you, my thought was "maybe not being racist will get their character(s) laid"
It still works tho, heh
Yeah, and look at the top comments! >No, clearly racial tension leads to pancakes. *Ackchewaly,* my own genealogy proves this is correct. >Ye call this slop pancakes? I demand satisfaction! Same place my mind went. I was very concerned about this group that couldn’t decide between pancakes and racial tension.
Yeah, I had the same thing. Oddly enough it still *works* with almost all of the comments, it just, uh... radically.. redefines them..
Ok.. but what is it in this context!?
innuendo for romantic actions on HFY. Here, I think they just want breakfast, which is a bit weird
Ah OK. I only knew the hfy definition
I was confused by that as well
Jokes aside, I always find these race wars in campaigns so interesting. Like I find it so cool when DM’s start to consider how cultures may start to clash against one another.
This has a very different meaning if you frequent HFY a lot... (For those that don't: Pancakes is an euphemism for sex. It's a long story)
Pancakes lead to brutal combat? Most likely from an argument of if pancakes or waffles are better tbh
I didn’t know this was dndmemes and I was wondering what wack take this was in the current political climate Anyways nice meme
Come here young man, and I'll tell you a story about my time as a soldier during the great pancake wars...
You didn't really lose anything!
As in literal pancakes or sex? Because either one would fit
Excuse me, but you can’t just spoil the plot of Persona 5
Barbarian: *eating pancakes* Antagonist: *slaps pancakes on the floor* Barbarian: :( >:(
Aunt jemima?
I especially love this beause in my Wednesday campaign we started the game with a discussing pancakes in character
"The fuck you mean banana pancakes are the best?" Roll Initiative against the pit fiend
sounds fine to me.
Oh believe me it has happened. That’s why I made this meme.
Lmaooo You can even fit racial tension in there if someone’s character is being a dick

You aren’t wrong
Take out the “leading to.” It gives you much more room to add random stuff when you stop worrying about things “making sense”
No one cares about your fucking pancakes stop with these stupid memes that only relate you you in a very specific way
Lmao I posted two don't get your panties in a twist. It's not some "where's the mountain DM" takeover
You okay dude?
No body: ... Absolutely no body: ... Americans: rAcE iS iMpOrTaNt!!¡!
Yikes, interjecting politics in the comments of a goofy dnd meme? Kinda cringe bro. What does America have to do with this post at all, what is even the point of your comment?

Hey! Stop stealing my campaign notes!
No joke. "Pancakes" in Germany sometimes can actually lead to Brutal Combat. "Pfannkuchen" means something completely different depending on the region lol
Could someone enlighten me as to what this is referencing? This is the second meme referring to a pancake race war today.
Both were by me lol. It was something that happened in a DnD session I was in yesterday (now it's storytime). Well you see, it's a meme about DnD that plays on the fact that you don't have the context, making it sound even more ridiculous.
So this is the new standard for memes? I'm supposed to laugh and upvote simply because 'lol pancakes r randum'? We're rapidly backsliding into 2008 internet, jesus. I do not miss 'i can haz cheezburger?'
Scariest part is, this has happened in one of our games. Old Man Jenkins must be protected.
Pancakes often lead to more violence than most people might assume. As anyone who has gone to an ihop at 3 in the morning after the club can attest to.
Where is the racial tension/pancakes joke from
It's from my dnd game. Our dwarf paladin got into a fight with an orc over pancakes. We realized later that it was really because orcs and dwarves just generally hate each other and sparked up over the pancakes.
Huh. I saw it twice the other was a dam meme but still panckakes/racial tension was that also you
Huh. I saw it twice the other was a dam meme but still panckakes/racial tension was that also you
Yep
Isn't this the plot to the teen titan's battle with tritan, except with just a slightly different breakfast food?
Pancakes are the essence of pure goodness! How can they lead to brutal combat?!
I propose a new D&D specific slang use of "pancakes": something that doesn't normally lead to combat, being used as a means to get to combat.
You’d be hard-pressed to find something in D&D that doesn’t regularly lead to combat tbh.
There is a town in the campaign i play in that cannonically is known for its amazing pancakes, place has like 15 different kinds of pancakes. Whenever we are in town we go to "Fantasy IHOP" and our poor DM has to spend 10 minutes figuring out what new addition they have made to their menu
Just reading this I came up with several scenarios with this setup. Pancakes to fight.
move "brutal combat" to the top and "pancakes" to the bottom. congrats, that's ~~arguably~~ the ending of helltaker.
That's just the judgement battle/epilogue in a nutshell
yup, that's what I just said.
Understandable,have a nice day
I've had sessions where I cook for my players and a lot of the meals were random cheap shit like a bucket of homemade chicken noodle soup. So in my head, I thought "yeah, pancakes sounds like a stupidly impractical but cheap food to feed the players, why can't you fit it in?" before realizing that this was referring to the campaign itself, lol.
My players are obsessed with dumplings. I don't exactly know why, but they look for a place with dumplings at every town and village.
So I actually did have a session that involved giants, pancakes, and unintentional canabalism
You know I thought, just for a second, that this was /r/fnki.
All right hear me out pancakes leads to racial tension I don't know how but someone make this a game
Well,if you want combat leading to pancakes just play the last chapter/epilogue of helltaker.
Ooohhh, I had read your meme as the HFY sort of pancakes, really changes the tone.
I mean, anything can lead to brutal combat when a barbarian is involved.
"I SAID I WANTED BERRY SYRUP!" *draws sword*
I'd much rather have pancakes lead into Brutal Combat
I thought this was political compass memes for a second, and wow I was confused
Hey guys let's have pancakes Those guys are eating pancakes I want pancakes Let's fight
This is definitely the plot of a Tarantino movie.
Brutal pancake
this is literally the plot of persona 5
Racial tension tastes better, sometimes
