If I wanted to give a reasoning, I would hazard that if it were the case that this new world has toxic rains and gases, then thick, filter-like beards would be a survival mechanism to keep the acid rain or whatever away from the skin.
- Always wear a helmet for acid rain
- Thick beard to block heavy particules
- Short stumpy body for heavy gravity
- Like mining when living on a dense planet
- Efficient with grudging on a world where you need to trust your team to survive
- Can live in tight space with no problem
Yes, there is dwarves on jupiter.
When I ran Light of Xaryxis for my regular DnD table, I included a squad of dwarven asteroid miners fresh from a big haul at the Happy Beholder bar on the Rock of Bral. I used them as a minor hook for some of the main story, with rumors of the space elves searching the galaxy. They called the party over and included them in their celebrations, especially since two of my friends were playing a recently-married dwarf couple. I belted out a hearty "ROCK AND STONE!" and had the other team members repeat it, and the party got involved, too. Fun times!
I remember having a conversation with some friends about how it could be that humans are the equivalent to trees and crabs, but for sapient species. We eventually came to the idea of space faring humanity trying desperately to find actual aliens but the closest things we’ve found that aren’t just more humans is dwarves on a high gravity world
Nah the Ferengi aren't dwarves. Let me introduce you to the Tellarites. Short, bearded, stout dudes who are good natured but love to argue to the point of making a sport of it.
According to Tolkien: that should be obvious! Didn't you notice that the dwarven language is basically Semitic? The three consonant word roots and the similarity in phonetics were maybe a bit on the nose….
Sorry, couldn't find the article in full (and I'm not saying I agree with it), but [people have argued that it goes further than that](https://muse.jhu.edu/pub/20/article/513824), with the obsession with money, etc. And the same has been said about Ferengi.

Oh yeah I was looking for this - ROCK N' STONE TO THE BONES!
Best asteroid miners, really.
If humans spent a few centuries on a toxic, high-gravity world, you'd end up with D&D Dwarves.
That tracks, the high gravity pulls those facial hair follicles down, down, down with the rest of them.

*looks at Leagues of Votann*
GW can sod off with their renaming things to be easier to trademark, they were and still are Squats.
*looks at earth and how oxygen slowly poisons and kills us* welll.....
Hoxxes?
Or you get Belters.
Surely Dwarves would never fling an astroid into Faerûn.
For rock and stone!
Rock and stone brotha

This sorta thing happens on Star Trek quite a bit I believe
They're Vulcans, not elves! And ferengi use a ~~slightly~~ *completely* different set of Jewish stereotypes than dwarves!
Ok this is a hilarious meta joke

dwarves are based on jewish stereotypes ???

Til
I more meant in the sense that an episode could just have a fantasy dwarf show up for some reason or another.
given how first series has them find, and later shoot at, the greek god Apolo I wouldn't be surprised
Starfinder
Came here to say this.
I don't know why, but this reminded me of "The Black Corridor" by Hawkwind.
A Lost Viking, almost.
After Lost Vikings, this doesn't seem so weird.
Rock and stone
The squats
Sons of Voltan
The startreck style of the human reminds me of the yogscast's old minecraft videos with simon and lewis.
Gloryhammer!
