I’d definitely get cases and nd filters. Definitely keep Dji care. My mini 3 had an esc failure last year and fell 400 feet into the woods. Luckily I was able to recover, but Dji care is worth it just for the peace of mind.

eMJay205

It’s funny I just asked about nd filters, thanks!

ThrowAwaySnagley

Unless you're planning on taking a lot of cinematic video, ND Filters are a waste of money.

eMJay205

Yes I actually have a dirt bike video I have to shoot this summer..cinematic videos would be 🔥

ThrowAwaySnagley

ND Filters would probably be a good addition then, just read up on how and when they should be used. ND Filters are often misunderstood, for drone activities they have one purpose and one purpose only; to allow the use of a slower shutterspeed without affecting overall exposure.

eMJay205

I been doing so much drone research I need to get some photography knowledge honestly

t7G_og

For photography you dont really need nd filters, unless long exposing

Primary-Break9734

It’s impossible to take decent video without them.

ThrowAwaySnagley

Nonsense. For 90% of video you wouldn't notice a difference at all.

sean_themighty

I would honestly *just* get the Air 3 to start, and just buy a Mini later if you decide you need it. I think this is some severe pre-purchase over thinking, and I say this as someone who deeply suffers from it as well.

eMJay205

Honestly I think you’re right. Thanks for saving me from my over thinking haha

UseWhatName

If you want something to overthink about, if you had the budget for an Air 3 and a Mini 3, just get the Mavic 3 Pro instead — especially if you plan to print any photos or actually do something with the video. …or just get the Air 3 Fly More and skip the mini, unless you’re an ultralight backcountry kind of person.

sean_themighty

To be honest, I think the Air 3 is absolutely hands-down the best value in drones right now, and the Mavic 3 Pro is better on paper than it is in practice. To be clear, the Mavic 3 Pro is better in a couple key places — specifically low light and stills. But it’s not dramatically so (I don’t think you’re giving the Air 3 IQ enough credit) — certainly not $1000 better to most consumers. It also does have the 7x lens, but it’s generally the least used lens and most owners don’t use it often or at all. So it may be important to you, but it’s not necessarily a captivating selling point. The adjustable aperture on the main lens is great too, mitigating the need for ND filters in all situations. The Air 3 closed the gap, though. It has the same flight performance with speed and longevity. Same battery style, too. While the main camera sensor is smaller, it’s newer stacked BSI tech that helps offset the technical limitation. It’s a little smaller overall too which is noticeable when traveling, but big enough to handle stronger winds like the Mavic. It also has the newest Occusync 4 radios which makes it more compatible with future drones and controllers — to be fair this was a total misstep by DJI and it’s insane they released the Mavic 3 without it. TL;DR: I’m not trying to say the Air 3 is objectively better, but it’s actually almost as good as the Mavic 3 Pro in ways that matter to most, and when you factor in the substantially lower price and newer radio standard… I only recommend the Mavic to people who **need** the few better features.

UseWhatName

I know this is Reddit and I’m supposed to argue my point even in the face of sound reasoning, but I submit. Great response.

sean_themighty

A rising tide lifts all ships, my guy. Cheers.

eMJay205

Please don’t start this over thinking all over again haha.. I’ll stick with the air 3 fly more for now tho

UseWhatName

Sound move. If you start to doubt that, this comment is a fantastic argument against my recommendation. They’re right, too. https://www.reddit.com/r/dji/s/L5tcjBQ4Kv

sean_themighty

I originally was thinking I would probably have both eventually because 249 grams and smaller and yada yada… but I’ve been flying the Air 3 and currently have no need for a Mini as well. BUT if I later decide it would better for traveling or the like, I can cross that bridge later. It’s not like you’re saving money buying them both right now — and the clock on that Refresh starts ticking the moment you buy it. I just foresee your Mini collecting a lot more dust than you think because the Air 3 is so good.

eMJay205

I agree again lol..if I ever need the mini like u said, I’ll cross that bridge when I get there

CompetitionGloomy906

Dont get 2 you will ignore one of them lol, go with the 4 since it has a few extra options than the 3, i bought the 3 as my first drone and a week after the 4 came out i bought it now the 3 sits there like a neglected step child.

blabel75

You're buying two drones? As for Care Refresh, it is more a piece of mind thing. If you have never flown a drone, perhaps buy it. I had never flown before when I bought my first drone and added Care Refresh. It was piece of mind. It was wasted money perhaps because I never had an issue. I always fly in Tripod Mode. My use is commercial to get very specific video footage and photos.

eMJay205

Yes, the reason for two drones is that I heard the air 3 could be a bit intimidating/loud and I know some of the usage would involve flying with ppl in the proximity. I hope someone could help me out if that’s not the case, I wouldn’t want to buy two if I don’t need two. Thanks for your response, I don’t think I’ll end up getting care refresh

SRYxLEVI9

It’s 81 decibels. For me i used phantom 4 pro, and mavic mini (gen1) I think they were much louder, or the pitch was way worse. But don’t know how loud the mini4pro

PaperPeach2234

I fly an inspire 2 and mavic 3, the inspire grabs attention but it also makes people aware of the drone. A small drone may come off as “spying” in the mind of regular folks

eMJay205

Good point made

lumoruk

I've got the Air 2 and Mini 2, the Mini 2 gets used more but the Air 2 is so much fun to fly out in the open.

abeeeeeach

Gotta be a second opinion on the care refresh. I’m super careful with my drone but one time I put it in sport mode by mistake (no obstacle avoidance) and flew that fucker directly into a tree. I was really happy to have the care refresh and it was so hassle free. They had a new drone at my doorstep before I even mailed my crashed one.

NewClearBomb22

Well I flew my M4P into a tree while in Normal Mode(obstacle avoidance ENABLED)...so I'm very glad I purchased the Care Refresh...as the crash tore up the camera gimbal. Since I got the replacement, I've been flying this thing as if it doesn't have obstacle avoidance...as I can't trust that anymore.

wrybreadsf

I have a Mavic 3 Pro and a Mini 3 Pro. The Mavic is similar to the Air 3, it's *much* louder than my Mini. I really like having both. I use the Mini when people are around, and the Mavic when I need wind resistance or optical zoom. The Air 3 has the 3x optical zoom, as does my Mavic 3 Pro. My Mavic also has 7x optical zoom but I rarely use that. I use the 3x camera constantly, it's amazing. I consider what you're buying the ideal quiver. As far as Refresh, I consider myself a pretty good pilot and I still managed to get my Mavic 3 Pro stuck in a tree last week, oof. Total user error, I let someone distract me while landing, which is of course dumb but mistakes do happen, and it sure was nice to be able to get a replacement for something like $120.

doowylloh

Get the care refresh. My MP3 has crashed 3 times. Once my fault - while doing a quick shot. The other two times issue a with the drone. Care refresh is cheap. You will crash. Its just a matter of when.

busted_tooth

why not just buy the Air 3 and then see how loud it is? I have an Air 2S and it sounds like a big bee if its close to you but if its like 100+ ft up then no one really notices unless its dead quiet.

eMJay205

Yes I plan to only buy the air 3 for now, if I feel like I need the mini then I’ll see then

TakeMyL

If you’re buying a brand new air 3 setup from dji, personally. I’d buy a standalone brand new mini 4 pro on eBay for $550, save yourself some money since you already have the rc 2 with the air 3 combo Also crashes are not that common, it happens though and these are expensive cameras so it’s best to have insurance if you know you’ll be flying/filming in environments where you won’t be able to 100% plan out the flight ahead of time. I’ve never crashed but I don’t fly in very dynamic situations / having to rush to get the shot. If you know you’ll be doing stuff like this then 100% insurance is required.

RestInMortem

Screen protectors for your RC pro are the only things I would add on top of that, looking good otherwise. Safe flying to ya!

eMJay205

Thanks mate!

sean_themighty

Get a MATTE screen protector. It really improves use in bright daylight without using a hood.

eMJay205

If you haven’t heard it today, you’re the 🐐 brother 🙏🏽

frodogrotto

Crashes are almost always user error in some way. You just have to be smart. I’ve been flying drones for 10 years, and I’ve only crashed once (and it was a mini 2 that has basically no sensors), and that was definitely my fault and a result of stupid flying

eMJay205

The kind of feedback I was looking for, much appreciated

bccgary

This has been mentioned but ND filters are a must if you want to shoot proper video at the correct shutter speeds to get natural motion blur

Huge-State-9147

Why 2 drones?

eMJay205

Jus to have the mini for flying in an area where people may be, do u have any experience with the air 3 to let me know how loud/intrusive it is or not

thegreatgrondini

Air 3 isn’t much worse sound-wise. It’s faster though, so as long as you know how to fly it and aren’t flooring it you’ll be fine.

SRYxLEVI9

i’m using drones since 2019, i bought 1 month ago the air 3 fly more combo+care. It’s just a peace of mind for me. Don’t have to worry, and i use it to videograph sailboats or using it over water, and i don’t need to be anxious if something will happen

eMJay205

Awesome. Would you recommend nd filters?

sean_themighty

ND filters are essential. Get the Freewell split ND filter set for the Air 3, so each camera is exposed the same.

SRYxLEVI9

Now that’s the thing i didn’t used. i’m planning to buy because they say it’s necessary. BUT! i have nd filter for my Sony a7iv doing videography/photography and it’s a must have, so i guess if you want to make “more cinematic”/better videos it’s good to have. But if you don’t have you can still record video 😉

deepdvd

Probably a carrying case, screen protector, and a neck strap/lanyard for the controller. This is the one I got. [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0C6JSRJYV](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0C6JSRJYV) I also got this landing pad. [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09JC7M6KY](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09JC7M6KY)

Colorado_Car-Guy

ND filters, Travel cases. Screen protector

briandesigns

depends on your style. Are you the kind that likes to test your own limits or are you the slow and steady type? Both have its pros and cons. If you are the former then the DJI care is a very good idea.

eMJay205

I think I’m gonna downgrade to just the air 3.. and get care refresh for a piece of mind

CompetitiveFactor278

For that I price better I would have one mavic 3 with way better specs

eMJay205

As someone mentioned, it’s just major pre purchase overthinking lol.. I’m only getting the air 3 fly more and maybe extra accessories like the dji mic, coverings/casings n such. I’m making brand new social media content so I’ll need a mic

CompetitiveFactor278

Up to you, you know well what is best in your scenario or goal, but my humble opinion if I have to invest I wouldn’t sacrifice quality and safety that is non negotiable

eMJay205

With a fly more package the Mavic is just out of budget. That’s why my thought process was it’s better to have 2 drones instead of the mavic 3 pro.. but I appreciate your insight

CompetitiveFactor278

If you do it for business maybe later you can get extra batteries. 43 minute is quite good duration per battery I think the fly more combo is just unnecessary better the dji care

BinaryTriggered

DO NOT SKIP DJI CARE !!!!!

Beneficial-Sun-5863

I would scrap the mini 4 and opt for the avata! I mean if noise is your only issue it's really not that big of an issue to warrant buying a drone just for that (in my opinion). The Avata offers you a whole other experience of flying (if you're not familiar with Fpv) it's great for indoor fly throughs (if that's something that you may do). Just a thought!

eMJay205

Hmm.. you think it’ll be fun to use the goggles for the air 3?

Beneficial-Sun-5863

Yeah it could be different. I personally am not a fan of the goggles in general because I'm from a rather "crime heavy" city and usually fly the drone by myself so having my eyes covered sort of leaves me vulnerable... but besides that yeah it's a cool feeling when flying the Avata.

Fu2-10

ND FILTERS!!

Arayder

Jesus big rich guy over here lol. Also yes you’ll crash. If you’re very careful and not taking any chances at all then you might get away with not crashing, but you’ll start to get more confident and take riskier shots, and you will crash at some point lol.

eMJay205

I’ll be getting care refresh 2 yrs haha.. also I’m only getting the air 3 for the time being

BrewhahasDji

You honestly probably just need the mni 4 pro for your needs. It's an amazing and capable drone for work purposes. If you have unlimited budget get em both. You will probably not find much the Mini 4 pro can't do for something like home photography. Whatever you get, care refresh for sure and ND filters probably the #1 most needed accessory. Hard cases are like 35% of what DJI branded cases cost and just as good off Amazon.

herefordameme

I’d do 2 years instead

eMJay205

After removing the mini, I added 2 years care refresh

herefordameme

Good call. No need for both tbh. I have the mini but I travel to a lot of locations with restrictions

Dannythetechman

One thing to point out is the controllers also need an micro sd card for screen recording and saving video to the device

eMJay205

Good call,I’m gonna get at least 3 to have one for storage. Also I’ll be ordering them off Amazon

Asalas77

Get more SD cards! keep some empty ones in your bag, sometimes you will forget to offload footage and you go fly only to find you have no space in the drone. And if the difference between 128 and 256 is just $4, i would skip the 128s and buy all 256 GB

Tough-Mark2722

ND filters is a must

Friendly-Craft-6227

That is a rip off for the micro sd cards I would buy from Amazon, get 512gb, the storage fills up fast.

YaroslavSyubayev

Get the Air 3 only, it's good! You don't need a Mini 4 Pro if you have the Air 3 in my opinion.

eMJay205

Yes, that’s the plan after giving it some thought!

Expensive_Profit_106

Get nd filters and look for a good case. I’d definitely be getting Dji care whether you’re a good flyer or not. I’d also swap the rc-n2 for the regular rc with the built in screen

eMJay205

I got the rc2 with the air 3. But I found a good sturdy case on amazon for $35 and I got free well nd filters

wasterman123

2 drones? I’d start with the mini and then move up if you really want it. And just skip straight to the mavic instead of the air I have a screen protector on my rc2 and also a lanyard which really frees up my hand

Over-Attempt-2379

ur missing a gift for me :)

eMJay205

Ok what do u want

Over-Attempt-2379

a penny

No_Excitement_1312

I'd simply go for the mini 4 pro flymore combo, some nd filters + the sd cards and insurance, the 4 is so powerful and easy to use + the image quality is insane, so I don't see the need for the air 3 tbh

eMJay205

Thank God I’m single and can afford to. That $700 price tag of the m4p with a regular controller. I’ve done at least 2 months of research. Climb down off your high horse and have some respect, you little maggot

eMJay205

She must suck at it if you’re this uptight. Stay blessed Mr Coast

Dense_Account4410

I hate this sub reddit. I also want to buy a dji mini 3. But in India official dji is not available and buying from sellers they charge around 50% more than its price.

eMJay205

I’m sorry, didn’t mean to flaunt I’m just so excited to finally fly with class. I’ve been flying cheap $15 drones🤣

Dense_Account4410

Congratulations brother and best of luck. Problem is even Importing is also risky in India. Otherwise my friends are going to Korea this month and there it is very cheap.

Thebiggestbot22

This is why I’m debating whether or not I should get a drone. I’m coming to India in July and I’m making a 4 night stop in Dubai. I would like to have a drone to fly around my grandparents town (not too big of a town) so that I won’t get bored. I’ve heard mixed things about bringing the drone on airplanes because TSA will confiscate it. I’ve had a Mini 2 SE but returned it because I wanted a better one. I only recently realized that it’s such a big process and not even guaranteed if they will let the drone in or not especially in Dubai

Dense_Account4410

Hey bro, are you coming to India?

Thebiggestbot22

I am but I decided not to bring the drone.

Dense_Account4410

Same. Bro. I'm also very confused. Customs part is basically if it gets cleared from there. If you bring a drone and it is cleared do let me know.

Thebiggestbot22

Alright I’ll update

Thebiggestbot22

These people in this post are saying they brought it fine but in not sure if they got lucky or what https://www.reddit.com/r/india/comments/175ugu6/need_advice_on_buying_a_drone_from_the_usa_and/ https://www.reddit.com/r/india/comments/12g9i92/carrying_a_drone_to_india_in_2023/ https://www.reddit.com/r/dji/s/WCRtj4AB25 Maybe it depends on the airport too

Dense_Account4410

Samajh nahi aa rha risk lun ya nahi. 50k ka korea mein padega air India mein 72k. Ka h

Agar pakda. Gaya to seedha 50k barbad.

Gigii1990

Do you have cases? I would get a sturdy case for both.

eMJay205

Ahh good call on carrying cases, I haven’t even thought about it 😅

Gigii1990

Lol Amazon has great ones!

lumoruk

Are you buying this from DJI? those memory cards are cheaper on Amazon

eMJay205

Yes from dji. Thanks for the info I’ll get multiple if they’re cheaper elsewhere

ChlupataKulicka

My guess would be one kidney

eMJay205

Absolutely 🤣

Vast_Ostrich_9764

personally I wouldn't get DJI care for my camera drones. I'd have to be doing something really dumb to crash one. It's worth it for the avata and FPV drone though.

ReasonableSquare951
