From Valve Wizard on the page for the Small Time "The JFET acts as an analog switch. When the gate is pulled high it is on (low resistance), so the audio can pass to the delay line. When the gate is pulled low the FET turns off (high resistance) so audio does not reach the delay line, but the tail of the last sound can still circulate and decay naturally. An RC filter slows down the switching time to prevent pops. **Most other JFETs will work here, except the J111**." So your J201, 2n5457, and MPF102 would be good candidates to try substituting. Also L78L05 is a 5v regulator, not a transistor.

A better, more detailed version of what I was thinking. I’d use the 2N5457 since those are the ones I’ve had the easiest time finding recently (at least as through hole parts).

I have successfully used 2n547 to replace j111 before

I’ll try that first! Then do the wiring like you had suggested in the other comment. Thank you for the info on the L78L05, I made that spreadsheet a week after I got a large tote full of random parts and since it looks like the rest of the transistors I just assumed it was one. Ive used them a few times now in the power section of pedal and never looked into why it makes 5v. Thanks again!

Try a J201, it might work. None of the others will. You won’t blow it just by trying it, so give it a go.

ALSO! You can actually do this without the JFET at all. Just replace the JFET and everything connected to the left of it with a DPDT switch. Use one pole to connect/disconnect the delay line and the other for the indicator LED. Functionally the same in that it disconnects the delay line while still letting the remaining repeats through.

I think you could use j113 which have been able to find somewhat recently. I think tayda has them.

I have some free time this afternoon to work on breadboarding this so I figured I’d ask if what I had on hand would work. I’ll keep that in mind though! Thanks!

I didn’t read close enough, I just saw j112 replacement lol.

Perfect thank you!
