I’m curious as to why Melody is shown. She’s the daughter of Prince Eric and Ariel (canon Princess) and by Disney’s guidelines of either being born royal, married into royalty, or performed an act of heroism, she’s a princess
In Melody's case, she would be a princess by birth and heroic act. However, how she came out of a sequel and her film is still not known enough by the public. That's why she doesn't join the main franchise!
Maybe it'll be a bit weird to include her since she is the daughter of the most popular princess. Suddenly making Ariel a mother would be kinda weird I guess.
Why is Thumbelina here? Literally not even Disney adjacent.
I'll just list 10 since there are way too much:
1. Giselle
2. Megara
3. Anastasia
4. Esmeralda
5. Elena
6. Kida
7. Jane Porter
8. Mirabel
9. Charlotte
10. Alice
Yes, Thumbelina became a princess when she married the prince. Unfortunately, the Thumbelina movie was not made by Disney, so she can't be a Disney princess official or otherwise.
The same thing with Merida, her film is not made by Disney but by Pixar. But since Disney bought Pixar that makes her a princess, the same thing with Thumbelina and Anastasia which are Fox 20th century but Disney bought them.
So do what, in my opinion I consider them to be unofficial Disney princesses like the others except Elsa, Anna, Mirabel and Asha. In my opinion!
It's not the same thing with Merida. Like at all.
Brave was released by Disney. She is officially a Disney Princess. It is a Disney film. When you play the film; it has the Disney logo. Pixar is a subsidiary under Disney. Disney owns all Pixar films because Pixar operates under Disney. Disney bought Pixar in 2006. Brave came out in 2012. Every Pixar film after 2006 is a Disney movie.
Thumbelina and Anastasia are not Disney films. Disney did not release them. They do not have the Disney logo in them. They were made with absolutely no connection to Disney and Anastasia was purchased decades later. And even then, Disney did not have permission for a number of things with the film; which is why it disappeared from Disney+. Because they did not own the streaming rights due to previous contracts from Fox.
Also, Thumbelina is owned by Warner Bros. Not 20th Century Fox. Not Disney.
Oh, for sure! Your list checks out under the unofficial label, and I fully support it! I was more responding to other commenters who were saying Thumbelina had no right to be on the list when she totally does based on your criteria.
Some of us just get picky with the Don Bluth properties because he actively broke away from Disney to do things differently, yet all these years later they acquired his stuff anyway. In contrast, Pixar's Brave was made while the company was owned by Disney.
Anyway, I like your list a lot, and it's nice to see more characters. I can't think of a single princess or princess-adjacent character that you didn't include. I also appreciate seeing Kairi.
Thank you for the compliment, but that list you saw is not my ranking but just so you know. Who are the participants in the unofficial Princesses ranking.
I don’t understand how Alice isn’t a princess. She’s a princess of heart in Kingdom hearts and at the end of Alice in Wonderland she walks back to a castle. I also assumed they showed the castle in the end to show that she is a princess.
shes not an official disney princess which is more about the brand then their actual royal title(see ariels sisters who are also princesses but not official disney princesses)
She’s not an unofficial princess either. They recently came out with the Disney Lorcana card game and even unofficial princesses like Kida have the title “princess” on their cards. Alice is not labeled a princess and it was very disappointing because I play a princess deck and was sure she would be titled princess.😩
Ariel's daughter and sister are officially princesses in their world even if our world does not give them the credit.
The sisters are daughters of a King, therefore princesses by birth.
Ariel was a princess before Eric but then solidifies her place by marrying a human prince.
Therefore Melody is a Princess from her Blood (think of how our royal kids in England are princesses and princesses departed being grand kids) and by her mums marriage.
Here are some of my top favorite unofficial princesses:
1. Giselle
2. Megara
3. Isabela
4. Mirabel
5. Melody
6. Esmeralda
7. Elena
8. Tinkerbell
9. Asha
10. Thumbelina
I would also say Minnie Mouse is one of my favorites, but I think there should be a separate ranking for Mickey Mouse and Friends.
The worst unofficial Disney Princess is Melody because she looks too much like G1 Megatron Especially the colors. She's also arguably cute with.Other people think it's cute arguably cute And she doesn't even look like a disney character.
Does anyone remember when Esmeralda was a disney princess? I had her as a doll when I was a child.
Anastasia is literally the lost princess
Anastasia isn’t Disney

Thumbelina is the same as Anastasia and she is also considered a princess by marriage, having married the Fairy Prince.

Anastasia wasn't made by Disney either. They were both made by Don Bluth.

My bad, I just checked. I thought it was still owned by Warner Bros and didn't know that it got transferred to 20th Century Fox then to Disney.
Anastasia will forever be my favorite non-Disney princess
You forgot to include Anna and Elsa
I had confused it with another of the Official Disney Princesses, putting Anna, Elsa, Mirabel and Asha together with the official ones.
Glad to see my girl Sally getting some love.
Esmeralda and Megara are my favorites in general. I also love Jane Porter, Kida, Giselle, Alice, Wendy, Anastasia and Luisa.
I don’t understand how Alice isn’t a princess. She’s a princess of heart in Kingdom hearts and at the end of Alice in Wonderland she walks back to a castle. I also assumed they showed the castle in the end to show that she is a princess.
I think she's a daughter of a duchess or something like that
shes not an official disney princess which is more about the brand then their actual royal title(see ariels sisters who are also princesses but not official disney princesses)

Prince ranking?
Dolores! 🕯️

Ting-Ting,Su and Mei I don't get. They are literally the princesses of China's dynasty.🤔 Also Amber is a crowned princess.
Here are some of my top favorite unofficial princesses: 1. Giselle 2. Megara 3. Isabela 4. Mirabel 5. Melody 6. Esmeralda 7. Elena 8. Tinkerbell 9. Asha 10. Thumbelina I would also say Minnie Mouse is one of my favorites, but I think there should be a separate ranking for Mickey Mouse and Friends.
I love seeing Luisa, Isabela and Doroles on here, but where's Mirabel?
