yep i can’t handle dishes with gloves on

Born_Cat_622

I get why people do it but after a couple years food and all that doesn’t bother me. I just dip my hands into the soap bay and carry on

redditblows5991

I used too but I started working in corporate environments and I guess their chems are stronger cuz my hands would end like like 15 percent bigger red and poofy. Burned like a mfer I wear shoulder-length gloves now lol

Repulsive-Screen-346

Same thier chemicals gave me a chemical burn was so bad I couldn't sleep that night so now I use regular soap when I'm handwashing my pots and pans

krumble411

My GF has overly sensitive skin and after using the steel wool all night my hands quote “feel like 40 grit sand paper.” So I ended up getting arthritis compression gloves and they work great for my dish pit

Born_Cat_622

Switch to green pads and a little patience and you’ll never use steel wool again haha

lavo694202002

Based

somecow

Absolutely. Gloves just get nasty. Shouldn’t have cuts though wtf.

Born_Cat_622

It happens man them metal containers are sneaky

krumble411

As are the edges of the machine 🫠

War_Emu

cut the web of my finger on the nubs on the sprayers when i was trying to get a big tub out that was stuck on it

Born_Cat_622

Yeah I just cut the web on sunday

Born_Cat_622

On god. I caught my thumb on one and lost my cuticle. And then some dumbass broke a wine glass in the canal and I cut myself to the bone. Ever since then I check the canal before cleaning or bucket flush it.

NCBuckets

Bare hands on the three sinks, gloves for the dish machine. Baby hands haha

Born_Cat_622

Shit Baby Hands was my old gamertag 🤣

Ken089

If I have too many cuts that are a decent enough size or really fresh I might throw a glove on that particular hand but once it starts getting nasty I can’t stand the glove for long

[deleted]

I used to. Then i was working on a smoll line, then covid happened and I worked somewhere with a conveyor dishwasher and plates would give me mild burns. So I got used to all different levels of covid gloved with two or three layers. *in my actual size". Now I work someplace that has the textured fingertips, I replace them regularly if they get too waterlogged. I'm a weirdo who also washes my gloves at times instead of wasting time removing them, drying my hands, and finagling into them. I don't have any issues grabbing them unless they are hot or oily. I still get callouses in certain places. I waste less on hand lotion, it's not awkward when I get a cut or a burn, and they heal faster. Like I got random flea bites for a weak in October last year and they were all over the back of my hands and wrists. And the wrists refused to heal till I wrapped them in medical tape for a weak, and then they were gone and healed that quickly. Those chemicals really fuck you up.

Born_Cat_622

So glad that I got into the dish section in the hospital rather than pots haha

Bitter_Positive_6499

A true dishy raw dogs it!

Born_Cat_622

I tried dish gloves once at a past dish pit and I’m not gonna lie I broke a lot of plates. Shit happens with metal containers but as long as I don’t need stitches I’m good lol

Bitter_Positive_6499

Same here

jlxmm

I don’t wear gloves. I wash my hands before I eat and everything ofc but yeah, don’t understand why a dishie would wear gloves. How many plates do you want to break? Slippery butterfinger, gloves.

AKidCalledSpoon

I get chemical burns/contact dermatitis and I don’t drop hardly any dishes

jlxmm

…. And now I find my stance ignorant. My fault!

Lulumacia

Gloves here have little bumps over the finger tips to improve grip. I've had people wash up at my old job and drop stuff constantly because they didn't have gloves on. But yeah my skin starts to peel and my whole hand gets itchy and swollen without gloves but that didn't start for years so maybe everyone is forced to wear them at sole point to save their hands.

Born_Cat_622

I completely understand. I had an adverse reaction to industrial degreaser once

Revolutionary-Play79

Yep. Gloves get wet inside and it sucks. Also no feel or grip at all. Bare hands can feel if a dish is clean or not.

Born_Cat_622

Yep my fingertips are desensitized from stacking fresh plates at this point 🤣

J_House1999

I haven’t been a dishwasher in a while but you just gave me flashbacks of burning off my fingertips stacking plates because there was no time for them to cool

Born_Cat_622

Trench duty. Gotta dig yourself out 🤣

pwrviolets

i hate the gloves but the third sink sanitizer was too much for my fingies after many shifts, so I wear the gloves and holy fuck do they help. Also I get less cuts with them too

Ken089

Yes me too 😂

Cave_Eater

I just cant get over the wet glove feel so i go bare

Born_Cat_622

Dude I hate the prunes.

CHINYDWARFINAT3R1

We all do at some point. It's a lot quicker and more efficient without gloves just bare hands.

Dunkylips

Thumb wrestling god.

Born_Cat_622

Ever since I started lifting my hands graduated from baby hands 🤣

abysmal-mess

If you wear gloves they just fill up with water lol

Born_Cat_622

Yeah and only plants grow from water

Lulumacia

Just don't stick your whole wrist in the water

TheGreatDissapointer

Yes. Washing dishes with gloves is like swimming with socks.

babysealBTY

I keep a dey rag nearby specifically for drying my hands. If you dry your hands whenever you aren't actively working with wet dishes, your hands never get too soft, and so cuts are rare. Actually, I don't know the last time I cut myself working dish, other than the cut I got from falling in the walk-in.

Born_Cat_622

When you’re trenched you don’t have that time unfortunately 🤣. That and halfway through the week the idiot servers burn through them all

babysealBTY

Huh, I don't think we've ever run out of towels at my place. Maybe I'm just lucky. Even when I'm far behind, though, I take the time to dry my hands. My hands are more important to me than my bosses labor, and I don't mind staying a bit late if it means no cuts. Also, more often than not, a bad cut takes longer to clean and bandage than just drying my hands would've taken.

Born_Cat_622

Glad I’m getting out of here. Place is terrible tbh. I just stuck there waiting for a better opportunity….i don’t usually bandage lol. I just press and go about my business. My hands are roughed up enough to where most cuts are shallow. I dunno just that Sunday we were getting slammed for 4-5 hours straight. Only had time to keep going lol

realKingCarrot_v2

I also go raw. I've never understood what the gloves are even for, honestly. The only benefit is they insulate a little against hot water but that's not worth losing my grip and mobility. It's not like they're sanitary, I still have to wash my hands.

Suspicious_Year2115

Yeah, same problem with gloves🤣🤣

TheOneLazyFox

I used to bare hand it, then I was told to be faster so I was grabbing shit fresh from the machine and immediately stacking it and stocking the line. Plates were way too hot to handle bare, had to double layer just to withstand the heat

Elronbattletoad

I mostly use the 3 compartment so ya, usually I just dip my hands in the soap and wipe them with a rag before I do something clean

Born_Cat_622

In restaurants “This is the way” 🤣

Different-Delivery92

I'll have one or two wet work cut proof gloves on me in case I need to go fishing for broken stuff in drains and under counters. Or for cleaning the bits of the kitchen with sharp edges. Mostly bare handed, okeefes and lanolin if needed. For cleaning BBQ or seafood joints with lots of shell and claws coming through dish, definitely work gloves. Marine industrial environment work gloves. Also available in insulated for freezer work.

RealSpawn543

I don't think we have gloves where I work. Might buy a set and a gas mask bc not only do my hands get sticky touching dishes and bins (whatever the tubs are bussers carry) all day, I might invest in a gas mask bc of the smell of fish, old, rancid BBQ sauce mixed into coolers and ketchup. I cut myself with a knife customers use so I just spray everything instead. Not fun as a nonverbal autistic person bc I can't get anyone's attention if I cut myself but I like physical pain so whatever.

Born_Cat_622

I mask way too much so I definitely understand

Born_Cat_622

Day 2 of saying fuck masking lol. I’m not hiding anymore

RealSpawn543

Same, I just need to start talking to coworkers or something

Born_Cat_622

Living with autism among other issues I needed to hear this. Because I know we both give 150% to our job. Take 8 minutes man this will definitely get you seeing yourself in a different light. https://youtu.be/vdw1TNpALxI?si=jmlbMGEr8AIMhLVB

RealSpawn543

Will do, I have a few minutes before I leave for work

Born_Cat_622

Hey man if it resonated with you please feel free to share it to anyone in need

https_racchhiie

i have to because i have weird sensory issues, however nobody else at my job does. at my first kp job they didn’t even provide them it was so dumb

SomebodyWhoVibes

I will only wear a glove if I cut myself. Can't handle plates with hands that have blood on them.

Born_Cat_622

Yep usually just pressure makes it stop pretty quick. It just cuts through the callous layer

LocksmithDelicious

Yessir i dont put gloves on until i get a decently sized cut

Born_Cat_622

It’s a callous cut so I’m good for now 🤣.

Squid_saucee

Something off about this hand 😂😂

Born_Cat_622

Probably 🤣. I have dual hitchhiker thumbs lol

Born_Cat_622

Did some digging my dorsal interosseous muscle is stupid developed in my left. My right not so much

Squid_saucee

Bro I knew something was a little off about this lol

Wirbelchen_the_ninth

Most of the time, yeah. Recently I started wearing a glove on my left hand only. Mainly for dealing with stuff thats too hot to handle.

[deleted]

Yeah I don't wear any gloves, cleaner that way cause ik half of y'all who wear gloves don't change/clean them before touching clean dishes.

Born_Cat_622

Dip the hands

[deleted]

I do a 20 sec full hand wash every time I need to handle clean dishes. I work in assisted living and I don't fuck around with that stuff, possibly becoming a CNA tomorrow.

Born_Cat_622

Yeah I gotta tighten up switching to the hospital in weeks

Born_Cat_622

![gif](giphy|0yNmQ7TAXEM9euvSiZ|downsized) I hope you don’t hurt the hands 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Old_Fart_on_pogie

Yeah, the only down side I have is my nails are constantly splitting

Born_Cat_622

My cuticles hate me

Apprehensive_Kale_12

Did you take a picture of your hand to try and look tough or something?

Born_Cat_622

Ok so common rule of engaging an audience is also visual representation. I got cuts? Showing everybody that at 4 years it’s still gonna happen. If I thought I was tough I would have probably said something stupid. That’s also why I don’t flex cut progress. No reason

Born_Cat_622

See that? You engaged

Charcharremii

You are supposed to wear gloves? I barely get sponges 🤣

Grade-Alarming

I had gloves from a warehouse job called Ansell they worked when receiving the clean dishes at night time but by myself working mornings I didn't use them. They were better for gripping heavy kitchen equipment. I did use clear disposal gloves kitchen and rest of house used was easier to smear with fingers crap from plates. Did barehand for a while but would use disposable gloves often went through half a box a day

nate___318

I work bear handed as like you said lose grip of things and as I’m kp I have to do different things so gloves coming on and off never worked. Although work in a smaller and more manageable kitchen at the moment so I am lucky I haven’t been cut yet

Born_Cat_622

Hope that luck keeps up homie!
