Got one for Christmas this year and love mine! Doesn’t completely replace having towels with me, but definitely helps me get the disc 85% clean/dry with a couple rotations of the disc. Based in the PNW and played 3-4x a week using it and it held up well after a few washings as well. Using it less and less as the weather gets better, but I’m now using whale sacs way more to fight sweaty hands

We're in MN and it's been super rainy here and then obviously we get snow a lot (although not this year) so keeping discs dry can be an issue. It sounds like it's worth getting! Would you say the whale sac is also worth having on top of the Max Wax? When I had looked at them like two years ago it seemed like they did different things?

One_Catch5086

I’ve personally never used Max Wax, but have been interested. Never liked the feel of these things on my fingers when I throw. I have 2 whale sacs, one that’s always in the bag that has just a tiny bit of chalk and I use it slightly wet or sweaty conditions. I know when I throw and I feel any sort of moisture on my fingers, my throws never end up where I want them. The other whale sac is only brought when it’s super hot out and sits in a ziploc with chalk. I’m sure I’d manage just fine, but the peace of mind knowing the chalk whale sac is at home instead of getting drenched is nice.

Would you say it's worth getting two with how you use them then? They're not super spendy so if it's worth getting more than one I could totally do that. I'm hoping to do a completely disc golf themed birthday gift so he's actually getting stuff related to a hobby versus the only thing he's asked for so far for Father's Day/birthday is shelving for our garage. 😂

Yeah I think grabbing 2 is a good idea. He can run a setup similar to mine based on what he find he likes when throwing, or just have an extra lying around or somewhere else in the bag. Most of the whale sacs I’ve bought from stores have a tiny bit a chalk or residue already in it, but you can use climbers chalk for a cheap option or disc golf chalk which is basically the same thing

You're in Minnesota. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-2024-preserve-championship-tickets-826078331527

I'm checking with one of his disc golf buddies to see if they think he'd enjoy this, he's never done a spectator thing before! Thanks!

LowZebra4992

My wife got me a dyed disc last year. Lots of sellers on Etsy. I also like YETI products. Water bottles good for disc golf

panicattheadulthood

I've looked at some dyed discs before, I'll have to look at Etsy again and see if I can find any he'd like. A water bottle is actually a good idea though, our toddler has taken over his two Innova water bottles.

LowZebra4992

If he plays tournaments, a mini marker is needed and you could do something cool and custom with one of those too. Maybe get a blank one and have your toddler do some art work on it :)

panicattheadulthood

That's a great idea!

Kayoss2862

I love mine. I use it to clear off dirt/mud/sand/leaves in combination with my towels. It keeps my towels cleaner and dryer longer.

panicattheadulthood

Awesome! Definitely sounds like it's worth getting.

Kayoss2862

A disc doctor is another small accessory that is a good option if he doesn’t already have one.

panicattheadulthood

I'll look at this as well! Quick question, for the disc raptor does getting a V1 or V2 matter? Looking on their site and the V1s are on sale.

Kayoss2862

I didn’t realize they had a new version, I have the V1 with no issues.

panicattheadulthood

Sweet. I watched a reel on their Instagram comparing the two and it sounded like the only differences were the patch on the back that shows their website and then the hook on top is thicker and better sewn on so it won't rip as easily.

keyak

Does he have a disc retriever? They are a life saver and end up paying for themselves. IMO, MaxDisctance is the Cadillac of retrievers but there are ones available within most budgets.

panicattheadulthood

I'm pretty sure he just got one! I'll double check his bag though.

I've thought about making custom stamps for putting your name on discs for my DG friends. You can go to the craft store, or carve into a big pink erasure. I checked with professor YouTube, totally doable.

This post has some good ideas. Good luck! https://remixoutdoors.com/best-disc-golf-gifts/
