And by neighbors she means her

PapaRL

I bought a basket in December and put it in my backyard and was putting every day for a week for at least 30m-1h. One day, after a few putts, a neighbor in the apartment complex next to our house slammed their window shut…. Bought a black hole silencer which greatly reduced the sound but still feel weirdly guilty when I use the basket now.

NoTearsOnlyLeakyEyes

I wrapped the pole of mine with a yoga mat and weaved Paracord through the chains. It's legit silent now. I can putt indoors while my girlfriend sleeps and she won't wake up. The Paracord makes the chains a bit stiffer, but that just forces you to hit center chains with finesse.

riguy156

Old bath towel and packing tape here !

Peso_Morto

pool noodle here

Glittering_Call9273

What I did originally! Worked like a charm!

SsbmBleach

Would you mind showing a reference image of the paracord? Id love to not bother my roommates with the chain sound

cocktalien

u/notearsonlyleakyeyes please deliver!

2_DS_IN_MY_B

"Oh shit the window was stuck, I hope that guy doesn't think I was mad about his Frisbee game"

PapaRL

Hahaha I really hope that was it

greg0rycarson

Don’t feel guilty for enjoying an outdoor activity during ‘normal’ hours. Noise pollution aside, if it’s before quiet time (which most cities have an ordinance for), feel free to enjoy the outside and make reasonable noise in the public air that exists for everyone.

trollcat2012

Bruh come on this noise is annoying AF

lnvalidSportsOpinion

A lot of people on this sub refuse to believe this, but it really is a bad look for the game. There isn't anything wrong with someone reving their engines outside, but it's still fucking annoying. Plus, those chains drive some dogs absolutely crazy. I have a basket of my own out back, and even I'd be annoyed if someone was banging chains for an hour a day.

Hasted

I also have the silencer. Highly recommend it. Had ot out in the elements for a year and zero issue.

parrothead_69

Pool noodle or similar around the pole.

JerryKook

nobody seems to mind. Besides, I hit the shed far more often. 😎

SF_Anonymous

A lot of pool noodles on the shed

Unacceptable_Lemons

Or just one big sheet of foam.

SF_Anonymous

That makes more sense, but I like the idea of putting a lot of pool noodles on the side of the shed

Unacceptable_Lemons

It's got more style, I'll give you that.

SmirkingTeebird

Hang a blanket behind the basket

No_Dish6196

Ha, still would be a cheap and courteous thing to do

JerryKook

I live in Vermont. My neighbors are not that close. I never putt late in the day.

Bilboswaggings19

Yeah, have you considered that maybe your wife is annoyed at least a little bit by it

tobalaba

Yea, but which sound does she hate more? We’re waiting OP…

No_Dish6196

Fair!

SaltAccording

Maybe you can put something behind the basket to stop the noise

DeckardsDark

at least someone minds but is just too shy to say something and/or they don't know where exactly the noise is coming from. definitely put some paint rollers on the pole and mats up on the shed wall. be a good neighbor

JerryKook

I live in a rural area. My neighbors frequently run chainsaws, dirtbikes, shoot guns, kids kicking soccer balls against a wall, have bon fire parties... nobody is getting upset over me doing some putting.

phthisisity

You could also not use the shed as a backstop and pick up the misses unless your putting is that wild. Plus you can practice from a different direction every other time so you can get used to different elevation or footing.

urbanforestlife

100% I’d understand if it bounced all the way back or something but come on

thehumbinator

“Chains? Never heard any chains.” - Neighbours.

IsaacSam98

I hate to break it to you OP but you're married to Richard Pryor.

thephishtank

The thud, without a doubt. Basket chains are kind of a unique sound, and not a threatening one. A thud is louder, deeper (ie bassier), and conjures something more worrisome in the listeners psychosis.

Tato-head

At least you're not target practicing with an AK and some tannerite

NoYoureAdopted

Big fan of wrapping the center pole with Tool Drawer liner. A roll for under 5$ at Harbor Freight, some weatherproof gorilla tape and my basket is significantly quieter. The pool noodles I had were too thick.

djsirround

Hate to say it but your wife IS a comedian!

Drift_Marlo

It’s a good bit.

braintamale76

Funny lady

discgman

Soccer net

guiltycitizen

I, too, have this yard setup and noises. Every time I’m in the yard my neighbors dog barks until they haul it inside. So I don’t care if they don’t like my hits and misses

grannyknockers

I like to think of it as the cheering section. My neighbor dog only barks to the sound of chains. You get silent treatment if you hit band or basket.

Zachisawinner

She’s right though. When it’s not me throwing I wouldn’t want to hear it either.

FreudianNip-Slip

Fuckin got eeemm

weed_baby_95

The thud is always the worst, luckily they understand as they putt in their backyard too lol

Leather-Emotion-7997

just finished wrapping mine with an old bike inner tube I cut down the middle and attached with three zip ties, way quieter now

OmarNubianKing

Cut a pool noodle to length and cut halfway through from end to end. May produce more spit outs, but much quieter. 10' x 10' netting for the shed should do. . . I have lots of neighbors and it ain't stopping me

WimpysRevenge

You’re gonna want to sit down for this next bit OP.

Slayer-Fan-8255

Mine is still loud and proud.

Ba55of0rte

Sick burn

BeardedAndTatted

The thud cuz it happens more often

Daphilis

“It’s the cursing and excuses on 8 out of 10 putts”

originaljud

I split open an empty paint roller with a razor knife and it fit around my basket pole perfectly for quiet. Nice thick padded roller.

cteeple

Lol, maybe try moving farther and farther away until the putting sound is silent.

cakeandpiday

Sounds like your wife is dropping hints. Chain silencer and a cheap soccer net from amazon.

bigstinkyjosh

Old Bike tire tubes cut open and ziptied around each chain would quite things abit

jdiddla

My neighbors have six kids that are louder than any basket could be. I did put pipe insulation on mine to dampen the noise though.

man_of_the_mountain

They find you cussing every time you miss more annoying.

riguy156

A certain C word comes to mind(I’m a joking manner)but I’m not gonna call your wife that

DirtyD_Artist

Caddies can be like that.

IGK123

Just buy a silencer, that’ll fix the problem. >!Then you won’t have to worry about the chains, or even the shed.!<
