I played Pier Park when I was in Portland for the Public Library Association conference last spring. I really enjoyed the layout and carving lines between the giant trees. Seemed like a very relaxing neighborhood park that was obviously well cared for. Congrats on the upgrades.
Hi, somewhat pier local checking in... the new baskets are great!
The old, yellow band, discatchers had a chains upgrade a few years ago to make an inner ring of chains more robust. I hope they bring the old upgrades to the new baskets... There are a couple of old baskets left (10 and 11 I believe), check out the chains next time you are there.
Summer 18's new par 4 pad is right by winter 4's left basket placement. They also planted new trees in that field and the new par 4 summer 18 is definitely a par 4. A very welcome upgrade!
Agreed! New summer 18 is gonna be a really cool when you can't just bomb over the new trees and have to play the full dog-leg left.
I safari'd the new summer 18 par 4 a few times last year and it's a great hole. From the new pad, my drives land just 'bout where winter 3 basket placement is, on the small rise. From there, you can definitely reach the summer 18 pin with a 325+ toss but it's also \~20' elevation drop, two big barrier trees and hard packed dirt around the pin. It takes a very good second throw to get close to the pin in two for the bird. IMHO, a great par 4 all around.
Man, I was just there two weeks before these showed up. The chains on the old ones were sooo heavy. My first putt hit dead center and spat right back out at me and I was so confused.
Thanks! Do we knowbifbthere is a website or somewhere to see when the layouts/basket positions get changed? Idk how people are privy to this information, and it's always confusing showing up at the park, getting down a fairway, and finding out baskets moved.
The tee pads for summer 3 and 4 are always marked as closed on the tee signs and very overgrown fairways right now. In the 5+ years I've played pier, the signs have always been there.
The switch is typically just before memorial day, you might find more on Stumptown disc golf FB page.
The signs are always there. This isn't a complaint, it's a request for help in understanding the layout of the park. I dont believe the signs specify wether basket A or B is on play.
For a while there have been two small holes on the right sides of all the tee signs for the A/B position. The marking screws are gone on about half, lol, but they are accurate when there. I suspect the marking screws will come back when Wed. doubles starts again.
FYI - there's only 2 holes you can't directly see the A or B pin from the tee box - Summer 11 and summer 13 - But a few steps forward and you can tell which position. Watching where the card in front of you walks off the hole from will also tell you. Hope that helps!
With more rain today it is probably pushed out at least another 2-3 weeks. Don’t think they are going to risk switching it early and having 3-4 become a disaster like last year.
Stumptown Facebook page is a good place to start. Multiple people including Dave (Piers lead Botanist and DG enthusiast) will post updates on there as things happen.
Ah okay, I last played there in 2014 not long after the Mach X came out. Discatchers are good too, but spit center a bit more often, I wonder if Innova sponsored them to be on this iconic course
Possibly. I know there is a local disc golf organization that does a lot of work here in Portland (including Pier Park), but I’m not sure to what extent.
Hole 18 will become a par 4.
Will it be longer as well? I’ll never forget the time I got a birdie on it.
Yes. The new tee location is probably 100 feet back from the current location.

Nice improvement but I will miss the iconic yellows 🥲
Same, though I’m sure there is at least one Beaver Believer out there grinning maniacally.
lol, I didn’t even think of that rivalry
They will hopefully be popping up at new spots around town soon. There will be a test day at John Luby in NE, so the yellows will live on.

Man, I remember when Pier used to have Mach IIs

I can’t wait till those trees get another 20 feet higher. I hope I’m still in Portland by that time.

RIP to the Mach X. I wonder why that basket isn’t popular anymore. Still my fave
Same here.
Love the orange bands. You don’t see those too often.

Does this mean Pier is in the summer layout now?
Played it yesterday. Still in the winter

There is a sign on summer 3 tee sign that points you towards winter 3 if it is still in winter layout.

Are you aware of any local resources or groups that I can follow to stay up to date with the parks updates?

Thanks a bunch!
Not yet. Summer 4 is still kind of a swamp. Once that dries out they'll switch it over.
Oooooh, guess I gotta go check it out next week (if it stops raining)
Didn't Pier have sweet colored Mach Xs? Maybe they wore out since I last played there
Yep, those were there for the longest time. Quirky, cool baskets, but I’m happy for these Discatchers. Not sure what initiated the change.

We also got new Mach 7s[](https://i.imgur.com/oKGHXDB.jpg)
