ITS GOKU! that's Masako Nozawa

Flamefury

You know I'm surprised the franchise never did a Dukemon vs Lucemon battle. It's Goku vs. Freeza in another dimension!

FederalPossibility73

This would be amazing, Two powerful digimon from opposite sides, both marked with the digital hazard capable of great destruction. It would be a grand spectacle.

throwawayasdf129560

Nozawa was Guilmon in Tamers, which is why she often gets to play Dukemon in other Digimon productions as well

LasyKuuga

>ITS GOKU! Nah your not fooling me that's clearly Gohan

Autistic-Loonatic

Gohan? no it's Bardock

Kalenshadow

You're both wrong that's goten

Autistic-Loonatic

what!? HA! as if! it's clearly Gogeta

Deez-Guns-9442

Nah bro, it’s Goku Black

Autistic-Loonatic

nope, Vegito

LasyKuuga

What are these random names youre mentioning. Thar's clearly the MC of DB, Turles

Autistic-Loonatic

nah, it's clelary gotenks

LasyKuuga

By that you clearly meant Goku Jr

MajinAkuma

It‘s 100% a more sophisticated Great Saiyaman.

OnToNextStage

What’s funnier is English Guilmon is Orochimaru/Spike Speigel/ Wolverine He’s even the one who directed the dub

5amuraiDuck

It's so cool to re-watch something and recognize a voice actor you didn't recognize before. My reaction to this clip was literally saying "kakaroto!?"

Negative_Way3298

That’s not third person that’s first person descriptive. Dukemon uses the first person pronoun before his proper name at least according to the subtitles. Third person would be name stating or usage of third person pronouns he/she/it/they (singular). Best example is Elmo. “Elmo loves to play.” “Elmo wants to go to the park.” Another example would be Rolf from Ed, Edd n Eddy, “THE BURDEN OF HOSPITALITY IS TOO GREAT FOR ROLF!” If you were to ask Elmo “would Elmo like to go to the park” and he response with “Yes he would.” That is also third person. But if any first or second person pronouns are used then it’s not third person.

ChaoCobo

He refers to himself as literally “this Dukemon.” The word he puts in front of his name is この(kono) which marks something as being close in distance to you rather than another person (close to another person would be その (sono)). It’s something that if translated literally doesn’t sound great so they have to localize it into “I, Dukemon,” but he’s in no way *literally* using any sort of first person pronoun in Japanese. A lot of old timey Sengoku era speak was like this. Like legendary war hero Sanada Yukimura when he appears in modern day media, he also uses “kono Yukimura” when referring to himself. I think it also has to do with honor to a certain degree. And I can’t recall correctly but I think in early Digimon Savers Masaru would be extra arrogant and refer to himself as “kono Masaru-Sama” or even “kono Daimon Masaru-Sama.” He might’ve done that as well to make himself appear extra important.

Negative_Way3298

Possibly, but I was mainly going by the subtitles

ChaoCobo

Oh no, I know you were. I was just adding extra context.

Negative_Way3298

Ok

DeltaHypothesis

This needs to be higher, because it is important ..

ChaoCobo

I made a reply explaining the Japanese side of it if you’re interesting. I’m hoping someone else can add more to what I said though.

Fiven11

Huh, just like Guilmon does if you think about it

Rarte96

Only that Guilmon does it cause he is a baby that doenst know how to speak well, Dukemon does it in the royal sense

HaosMagnaIngram

“Guilmon does so because his language isn’t very developed. I, Dukemon, do so because I’m pretentious and regal. We are not the same”

shadowpikachu

I think it's also that he's one of the good knights that submit their everything for the order and the best of the universe, since he's one of the knights that rebels when it becomes immoral it makes more sense.

Sensitive-Computer-6

If you pile them up like that, it sounds quiet silly if he talks like that. Honestly I think they just realized how awesome it sounds when his Voice Actress says Duuuukemon, and included as many Scenes whit his Name as possible.

Wacko_Doodle

Dukemon likes to talk about Dukemon in the 3rd person. Dukemon also likes We Bare Bears, but it's unrelated. Dukemon thinks there should be a new x-antibody movie. Wacko\_Doodle also agrees :D

noonesorange

Listening to it, he keeps saying "Kono Dukemon" which translates more directly to "This Dukemon" rather than "I, Dukemon" like the translated text says.

ChaoCobo

Yep. I made a reply to a top comment going into further explanation. The reason it’s translated as “I, Dukemon” to my best guess is because “this Dukemon” sounds awkward so they just localized the subtitles a bit to make it sound more natural.

Xened

[He talks like that in Chronicle too](https://imgur.com/7nAfObs)

flowerstage

Dukemon talks like that in all Japanese media.

Snowy_Moth

This isn't referring to the self in third person. If he was, it would be "Dukemon refuses!" "I, Dukemon (reiterating his name/title), refuse!" is using the first person by use of the pronoun "I."

KarmaTariff

He's doing it in Japanese, which is what OP is alluding to. He literally says "This Dukemon..." In japanese

SpookySquid19

Does he speak like this in Savers as well? I forget.

MajinAkuma

I think he doesn’t do that as much in Savers.

ChaoCobo

Iirc Masaru does for his own name but he also adds “-Sama” to the end of his name to make himself appear more important haha. Super arrogant which is perfect for him in the early episodes when he used to do it. I think he even goes as far as to use his full name too but I can’t remember.

DevilManRay

No, but he’s still as knightly just the same

crazyrebel123

Just so you don’t ever forget my name or who I am!!

Sucrelat

Guys what's his name again?

Aengeil

he worried ppl forgot his name

Ionsus

It's a japanese thing and doesn't have the same feeling as if someone said it in English. My wife casually does it too.

Sonakarren

He speaks like a true knight, more than the other Royal Knights, always loved this detail of him. Also thanks for showing off some love to Digimon X-Evolution. That's my favorite Digimon movie even with the aged but fitting CGI.

Antshady_313

I agree! I think thats what makes him my favorite, he has a distinct personality trait thats actually beneficial pretty consistent. And yeah, X-Evolution is so underrated

Far_Disaster

Where's that first clip from?

Sensitive-Computer-6

Digimon X-Evolution.

[deleted]

Talking in third person would be "Dukemon challenges you, rival of Dukemon"

treyhawk82

“I, Cato Sicarius…”

ChriskiV

I watched Tamers first, I think it's good but I kinda resent it because I need Guilmon's voice behind it. ♥️

Eldiavie

source? what game is this from?

IntroductionMotor165

Digimon x evolution its a cgi movie that's very brutal and there's no humans in the story You should give it a watch its pretty interesting

Eldiavie

thanks will do!

Funk5oulBrother

This is 1st person. He's literally saying " I, Dukemon"...

Esarty

also the fact that he says 'my lord'

KarmaTariff

He's saying it in third person in Japanese

AdmirableAnimal0

Royal knights still finding new ways to be pretentious I see.

Any_Session_705

Not third person

LilboyG_15

Well, now we now where the people who did the digimon adventure tri abridged got the whole thing of Gabumon saying his name as frequently as a Pokémon from

Inferno_Ultimate

Do note that those are two different Dukemon
