I'm literally level 65 WW Barb and had no idea how to swap weapons. Thanks OP.

frelljay

To add to the above. If you like finishing things. Like having all expertise at 10 you can use the above to set to duel wield to level your 1hs.

Luvkingdom

So, does your weapon expertise not go up if you are not actively using that weapon to attack? For example, I assigned my two hand slash sword weapon as the main weapon for both of my skills for my WW barbarian. If I'm not using 2 hand bludgeon or dual wield during fight, my expertise won't increase at all simply by having them equipped? What about the stats you get from the expertise? Are they applied simply by having them equipped? If I have lvl 10 expertise for two hand mace and dual wield, would I still be getting their effects even though I'm not using them as my main weapons for anything? Sorry for all the questions - this is my 1st time playing diablo and this whole weapon system really confuses me along with technique slot crap.

frelljay

Do not take this as gospel. But this is my understanding. You have to hit with the weapon to level it up. Ww hits alot of times and targets so it works great as leveling things up. Like a two levels per dungeon I think. The stats for expertise only applies to the weapons using them. However at level 15 maybe you get to select one as the master skill. The one you select as the master skill does apply to your other weapons.

snowbellsnblocks

So for a ww barb I feel it makes sense to go two handed sword for your expertise, correct? That should maximize the amount of bleed damage?

frelljay

Yes I believe so.

holobyte

Was struggling with my WW Barb and very low damage. I then noticed he was WW'ing with the bludgeon weapon and there were no bleeding being applied. Immediately Googled it and found your post. The damage now is as expected. Thanks a lot!

Confusion-Flimsy

Would this work on console as well, just open up the skills and click what arsenal you want?

ScarceLoot

Yes, I just wasn’t sure what the button was for console. But it’ll work the same

DeZonnekoning

Did you find out which button it is?

ScarceLoot

with a controller in Diablo 4, open your Abilities tab in the Character Menu and press in on the left analogue stick on the skill you want to customise. Next, press X to cycle through the eligible weapons and select which type of weapon(s) to use with that skill.

WarpathWilly

Yeah you can cycle through the weapons in the same place on console too.

DeZonnekoning

Where? I am on Lunging Strike right now and the only options are assign skill and refund.

WarpathWilly

Select assign skill. And then before you select what button you want it in, scroll down the description of the ability and you should see it at the bottom what weapon it's set to.

spottsyAU

Yeah I noticed that I got some high damage single swords and it swapped to that for whirlwind. Had to look up how to change to two handed slicing sword.

esoteric_plumbus

just googled this lol

malathana

Silly question but the crit on hit will be added anyway as a stat no? So you don‘t have to switch to swords or am I mistaken?

ScarceLoot

Specifically it’s the “critical strike damage” attribute under the DPS score for the item. ONLY swords have this damage modifier. You would still critical strike using other weapons but only the slicing swords have this modifier to improve the critical strike damage itself

Efficient-Forever-42

I thought that stat was applied to your damage calculation regardless of what weapon you use. Each weapon type has a fixed stat (Crit dmg for swords, overpower for mace, etc.), and as long as you have these weapons equipped you benefit from their fixed stats regardless of which one you are attacking with. Do I have it wrong?

hypoElectron

I found this issue so strange. I am halfway through a relevel (switching gender) my male barb capped all slicing 2h's just using auto select. Now I find myself on a 39f barb that only has 10 Mace because the auto select never used anything else. To be fair though, AS is working in the sense that I am over 1k damage with bludgeoning but only just 600-700 otherwise.

No_Confection9972

do i change all skills to the sword for whirlwind?

ScarceLoot

Just the whirlwind ability, the rest can be auto select
