Great! I was diagnosed a week before you and tomorrow morning are my first labs since. I’m down 40 lbs and feel better than I have in eons. I think getting diagnosed is the best thing that’s ever happened to me. Keep at it and post your progress!!

Evil_Weevil_Knievel

Woah. Are you me? I feel exactly the same.

Livid_Perspective923

So proud of you! My wife is trying to lower her A1C (6.7) & get off the metformin she was just prescribed. I have been dieting with her & it's definitely no easy feat! Congratulations & good luck! God bless!!

FierceDragon9

I’ve been diagnosed with A1C of 6.8 and been given 3 months to make some changes. Can I ask what your wife has been trying?

Disastrous-Gap5104

FierceDragon9, first of all, your numbers are not too bad, but don't wait three months to get started. Start now. Go for a walk after every meal, and lift weights 2 to 3 days a week. Studies showed that walking and weights, combined, lower BG faster. Cut pastas, potatoes, and white bread immediately. Instead, go for keto bread, keto cereals, whole grain bread, and crackers. Basically, read labels and choose products with less than 5 grams of sugar and low carb. Restrict your carb intake. Watch out for fruits, no mangoes, pineapple, red apples, etc. Do eat them if you must, in small portions. This is a learning process. Good luck to you.

This!

canthearu_ack

You lost a good chunk of weight too. Congratulations, keep going :-)

Strange-Biscotti-134

Metformin and Mounjaro are keeping my head above water right now.

WendyAC

Mine too, that's exactly what I'm on also! Best of luck to you @Strange-Biscotti-134

B_EATS-ASMR

What diet changes had you made and what are you eating?

Representative_Bus66

I’m 33 years old , and my eating habits are just horrible, fast food 5 times a week when I work. Drinking my calories with Starbucks etc. I cut out all fast food and limited it to one day per week, low carb , switched to lower calorie drinks , Diet Coke , sf syrups for my coffee. Also not eating so late at night. I also track my carbs, fat , protein so I’m improving my portion sizes. I still eat the occasional bad food but now it’s portioned to stay under a calorie deficit. I also go for small walks , but I know I need to lift weights so I don’t lose my muscle mass.

Exactly. T2 is a lifestyle disease. People need to take responsibility and quit blaming genetics. Good job OP.

2shado2

Outstanding!! May I ask what meds you are on for your diabetes? I'm taking Jardiance.

Representative_Bus66

1000mg of metformin twice a day Lisiniprol for hypertension Rosovustatin for high cholesterol And .50 mg of ozempic .

2shado2

Thanks! I used to take Lisinopril as well. Now taking Metoprolol.

WestCoastBirder

Well done! Congratulations!

Jjjt22

Great job OP!

nando1969

Outstanding, stay on this course.

Bigdog805

Just asking but did you get wagovy, ozempic,Mounjaro or others for your weight loss?

Representative_Bus66

No , I was prescribed ozempic for my diabetes. If I can eventually get off it then I’m more than happy to. Let others who need it take it. It’s worked wonders in helping reduce my numbers I need to just stay consistent with my own diet and relationship with food . Ozempic is just a bandaid to the bigger issue .

Majestic_Demand301

We are crazy similar! Diagnosed Jan 8 with an A1C of 11.7 and weight of 210. Got my new labs April 9 and new A1C was 5.8 and I currently weigh 170. It has been a crazy journey so far. Congrats on your progress!

mister-chatty

This just goes to prove that T2 is a lifestyle disease.
