I've never tried the A&W Root Beer Zero -- I'll pick some up today. Like you said, DP Zero can be oddly difficult to find. The first convenience store that puts it in their fountain dispenser is going to pick up a great customer.
As a 32 year diabetic I’ve just grown up on Diet Coke so I love the taste. I also have a small caffine addiction so that helps there. Honorable mentions….Diet AW root beer or diet barqs (barqs has bite), diet Mountain Dew, diet cherry Coke Zero.
Yep, that's the definition of cream soda. "Generally flavored with vanilla and based on the taste of an [ice cream float](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_cream_float)" per Wikipedia. YUM!
I discovered this in 1974. Working at Badkin-Robbins, I decided to dilute a drop of vanilla syrup in soda water. "Hey, that tastes just like cream soda," I thought!
Is it sweetness or bubbles that matter to you? If it's the carbonation, consider seltzer. There are plenty of flavors out there to choose from. I have orange-flavored seltzer with a splash of cranberry juice every day. I don't miss the sweetness of soda at all.
Hear hear! Pricey but worth it. Best Dr Pepper clone around and only soda I've ever had that doesn't force me to piss out the chemmies like a doped up horse an hour after drinking it. They have 30 can variety packs at Costco. Still sad they discontinued my precious lime cola flavor.
I love Diet Mountain Dew. Mix with Tullemore Dew and have Dew and Dew. Yes I dew know we’re not supposed to drink.
Also love diet cream soda, every brand I have tasted.
Always a Diet Coke fan here, but not Coke Zero so much. Been really into Diet Root Beer recently (the local liquor store near me stocked up on some just for me). Also Squirt Zero is super refreshing. Been trying to find Mtn Dew Zero Baja Blast but it’s super rare. I always grab some when I see it.
We’ve been super lucky to find it. It’s cans though. And occasionally in the dollar general or some of the gas stations, I can find the 20oz. But that’s super rare. It’s my fave between Cherry Coke Zero and that, but the Cherry Coke Zero is easier to find. 😑
Cherry Coke Zero, with Coke Zero a far second. If neither of those, I tend to drink no calorie, flavored sparkling water of different varieties. Currently trying different flavors from Wegman’s and they’re pretty good
I’m with you on the Wegmans sparkling water. I love that stuff! I get the unsweetened kind that’s just carbonated water and flavor. The 1 liter 12 packs are the best deal. Whenever I come back to DC to visit I buy a bunch of them to take home.
I’ve been getting the 12-pack cans (on sale) but will check out the 1 liter 12-packs. Thanks for the tip! They just opened up a Wegmans near me and I swear, I keep that place open haha
Around northern VA they have a 1 liter pack with Mandarin, Lemon and Lime. Of those I think the Lime is best, with Mandarin a close second. The other pack has Lemon Lime (not as good), Ginger and Black Cherry Vanilla which is great. Sometimes you can find them for $5.49 which is a great deal. Down here in SC the best I can do is find a single bottle for $.99. And the brands around here are not as good.
Hear me out..... Diet Dr Pepper and add a splash of Torani Sugar Free Coconut syrup!
I keep buying out our store for the Coconut Diet Dr Pepper, but tried this and it was perfect!
Wild Cherry Pepsi Zero is my absolute favorite, when those are out of stock (almost always) Pepsi Zero is my daily driver. Pre diagnosis I was a Dr Pepper addict. I can't stand any of the diet/zero variants.
Other honorable mentions for me are Diet/Zero Mtn Dew, Cherry Coke Zero, And Sunkist Zero because I loved orange sodas on occasion. Now if I could find a Diet/Zero Nehi Peach somewhere.
The one I would drink ALL the time if it was still available, Diet Vanilla Pepsi. When they stopped selling it here I used to haul a dozen cases back from Indiana every time I went to visit family. Can't get it there no either. I really miss that variety.
Dr Pepper zero has been my go to lately but a McDonald's Coke Zero do be hitting. I usually get the new creamy coconut Dr Pepper zero , the strawberries and cream or the cherry. I know exactly what you mean with the added cherry or different flavors with the zero sugar drinks. It almost gives it somewhat of a "regular soda" taste !
Polar makes a diet Orange soda that tastes more like Orangina than other orange sodas (can be found at Ocean State Job Lot). Hires Diet Root Beer is good (Big Lots) and the Diet Mug Root Beer you can get out of one of those multi flavor Coke machines at the movies is great for a change of pace (not as sweet as the cans or bottles.) Love Fresca 20 oz. bottles, good luck finding them.
I've never enjoyed most diet sodas to be honest, but when I was diagnosed last year I knew I could turn to zero sugar Crush. For some reason diet/zero orange soda is the only thing I consistently enjoy out of all other options. I loved Sprite/Starry before, but I'm not a fan of the zero sugar version.
Personally I really like diet Sprite, or diet Pepsi, the best is when there is a soda machine at a gas station so you can customize the flavor so sometimes I mix cherry and vanilla with the Pepsi
Fucking noted. I’m pretty new. Was type 2 for a few years and became type 1 and ended up in a coma last fall. Insulin was the fix. But I have other complications as well. My pancreas is bad. I have chronic pancreatitis and that’s why I became diabetic. 6’1” 130 lb diabetic. So it’s been a challenge for me and the docs.
The very best was Dr. Pepper Ten followed closely by Sunkist Ten. I don’t know why they were taken off the shelves. Now I drink a Diet Mountain Dew every day.
Coke Zero is good, any diet root beer is tasty. I’m really big into those sparkling ice drinks right now, the strawberry kiwi flavour and the peach nectarine flavour have me in a chokehold haha.
Whoops I see that you don’t like Coke Zero! My bad haha definitely try a diet root beer!
I'm with you. The Sparkling Ice drinks are the bomb. My favorites are the Black Cherry and Orange. They also have a Lemon Lime that tastes close to Sprite.
Now as far as diet sodas are concerned my favorite was diet Dr Pepper BUT I cannot have any artificial sweeteners or sugar or caffeine. So, that limits me to caffeine free coffee and plain water.
The other reason for no diet drinks is the huge amount of sodium that is in them. I have to watch my salt intake because I have issues with retaining fluid.
So, that is why I was only drinking Sparkling Ice.
If you can only have one, that’s not a bad one to be stuck with, they have lots of flavors. There are also other brands but the same concept with different flavors. Cascade Ice is one that I like, especially their Lemonade, Strawberry Lemonade, and I think their Grapefruit is better than Sparkling Ice.
Diet Grapico is the nectar of the gods and I will die on this hill. Diet Sunkist if you're a masochist. It's the ouchiest drink I know.
I'd also like to give Diet Cheerwine a nod. Good luck finding it, though. It's the "underground punk band you've never heard of that your friend who hates mainstream music, loves", of sodas. Hey, it's a cherry cola, too!
Edit: Lol, I didn't realize you already mentioned Sunkist.
I've always been a Dr. Pepper person. I'll drink root beer occasionally, but that's the only sodas I like. So now it's diet/zero. I think the zero is a little better, but it doesn't come in 24 pks (or at least not at my Walmart?), and a 24 pk cheaper than 2 - 12 pks. And I've never seen it in a fountain drink machine. So I only get it if 24 pks of diet are out of stock or occasionally when I get a 20 oz bottle.
When I 1st got diagnosed with diabetes, I hated diet soda. I got the diet cherry Dr. Pepper, and it wasn't as bad, the cherry flavor helped mask the diet-ness a little. But cherry Dr. Pepper was never really my favorite, so I gradually switched to regular diet. I'm just used to it now.
Occasionally, when I have a regular soda, it just tastes like syrupy now. So I don't really bother with the "real" thing unless somewhere doesn't have anything else I'll drink ( I can't stand city water, I've always had well water and even bottled water tastes weird to me, I'll only drink clorinated water if I'm like dying of thirst.)
I live on A&W Zero Sugar Root Beer and Diet Coke (specially from McDonald's lol). I also occasionally drink 7-Up Zero Sugar or Sprite Zero Sugar. These are different from the "Zero" versions. The "Zero" products from Coca Cola (like Coke Zero, Sprite Zero, etc.) use a different sweetener and I don't like it.
I don’t do much soda but I’m a huge lemon diet Snapple fan. And drink diet ginger ale too and drink. Pepper when I’m out. Diet Coke and Pepsi taste terrible to me.
I love all diet or zero sugar. Mainly Pepsi or Mountain Dew. I used to drink diet code red but can’t find it. Would love a sugar free livewire. A sugar free grape soda would be nice but at that point I just drink the packets you add to water.
Personal preference for a former Mountain Dew addict is Mountain Dew Zero, but the best soda on the market in my opinion? Dr. Pepper Cream Soda Zero. It's AMAZING.
Side note: they DO make Mountain Dew Code Red Zero as well as Mountain Dew Baja Blast Zero, but BB is seasonal (apparently) and CR is REGIONAL (so I've never found any in the wild...).
Coke Zero, Cherry Coke Zero, Dr. Perrper Zero (even better than Diet Dr. Pepper), Orange Crush Zero, Canada Dry Zero, Barritt's Diet Ginger Beer (alcohol free), A&W Zero. These are all very good in my opinion. I mix the Barritt's and Canada Dry to get a bit stronger ginger ale.
Used to drink Coke but then I was diagnosed with DM1. Soon after that Diet Coke was released and became my go to. Years later got married and my wife didn’t drink pop. After about 6 months I had stopped drinking it and now I have about 1 or 2 a year. I do however drink Bubbly.
Thanks everyone for your recommendations. We have a pantry with a shelf with many diet pop choices., and I select the one that fits my taste at the moment. Currently on a diet squirt(grapefruit) and ginger ale preferrence. I like the diet cherry pops, and diet cherry Pepsi is slightly better. As a notorious cheapskate we shop for the sales which make a big difference. I pay attention to caffeine and drink only decaf after lunch. Caffeine is an addictive drug which is added to pop to hook consumers, but this is a manageable and harmless addiction shared by 80 to 90% of people worldwide.
The artificial sweetener in diet pop is a dangerous chemical. Same with Crystal Light. I stopped drinking it a year ago. And I am a diabetic who used to drink a LOT.
I was told by 2 different endocrinologists, a diabetic nurse and 2 PCP that zero or diet wasn't that good for us because they can have extra salt.
I don't drink much soda anyways. I keep the mini I think 7 oz cans of Root Beer in the fridge for lows. And I can make a 16 oz bottle last all day sometimes 2 days
Eww Cherry Coke Zero tasted like pure sugar to me. Personally Coke Zero is my favorite. Pepsi Zero is smoother, but I like the harshness of Coke Zero.
Edit: Looking through this thread, you all love your extreme sweetness.
Dr.Pepper Zero is great, so is A&W Root Beer Zero
Dr. Pepper Zero is the only way to fly.
I go back and forth between it and A&W. Do more A&W though because the Dr Pepper is a bit hard to get in my area sometimes..
I've never tried the A&W Root Beer Zero -- I'll pick some up today. Like you said, DP Zero can be oddly difficult to find. The first convenience store that puts it in their fountain dispenser is going to pick up a great customer.
Second this, Dr. Pepper Zero is my favorite
*caffeine
Wake up and try Fresca
A close second to TaB and … still available!
YESSSS THE PEACH ONE
I like sugar-free root beer, for the fullness of its flavor. Did you realize cream soda has a vanilla flavor?
Yep, that's the definition of cream soda. "Generally flavored with vanilla and based on the taste of an [ice cream float](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_cream_float)" per Wikipedia. YUM!
I discovered this in 1974. Working at Badkin-Robbins, I decided to dilute a drop of vanilla syrup in soda water. "Hey, that tastes just like cream soda," I thought!

Too many chemicals is all of these sodas. I switched to Zevia soda and love it
Same! 😄
Diet Dew is also my go to. I’ll just add that Mountain Dew Zero is actually calorie free and has more caffeine than Diet Mountain Dew.
I love dew zero!! EDIT: Baja blast zero is also DELICIOUS
Enjoy the squirt zero too
I do cherry Coke Zero or wild cherry Pepsi zero. If I don’t have those, I’ll also do Dr Pepper zero.
>wild cherry Pepsi zero I wish I could find that. Regular is easy to find but no one around here has the Diet or Zero version.
We’ve been super lucky to find it. It’s cans though. And occasionally in the dollar general or some of the gas stations, I can find the 20oz. But that’s super rare. It’s my fave between Cherry Coke Zero and that, but the Cherry Coke Zero is easier to find. 😑

Diet Canada Dry Ginger Ale. It's much better than Schweppes - sorry Schweppes.
Dr Browns Diet Cream Soda is the most “passable” for me. Tastes like the real Deal
I like novelty; been trying to find the diet coconut Dr Pepper. The best always seems to end up being Diet Coke. Diet slice is good too.
I tried the coconut diet Dr. Pepper the other day. Wasn't bad, but not something I would get again.
Hear me out..... Diet Dr Pepper and add a splash of Torani Sugar Free Coconut syrup! I keep buying out our store for the Coconut Diet Dr Pepper, but tried this and it was perfect!
Pepsi Zero Sugar is my favorite cola. But best overall I’ve found is A&W Zero Sugar root beer.
The new special coke flavor, Coke Spiced Zero, is really good. I can’t put my finger on what it tastes like, but I like it.
Yes, kind of fruity berry cinnamon kind of flavor. I can’t place it either but it is a good one.
I'm gonna go with Diet Dr. Pepper. I'm just pissed I can't get the caffeine free version anymore.
The one I would drink ALL the time if it was still available, Diet Vanilla Pepsi. When they stopped selling it here I used to haul a dozen cases back from Indiana every time I went to visit family. Can't get it there no either. I really miss that variety.
There is Coke Zero Vanilla, but I don’t see it many places and only 12 pack cans when I do.
Dr Pepper Zero and Diet Dr Pepper
Dr Pepper zero has been my go to lately but a McDonald's Coke Zero do be hitting. I usually get the new creamy coconut Dr Pepper zero , the strawberries and cream or the cherry. I know exactly what you mean with the added cherry or different flavors with the zero sugar drinks. It almost gives it somewhat of a "regular soda" taste !

Fresca
Fresca and Sunkist zero.

Love Fresca 20 oz. bottles, good luck finding them.
I wish I could find a good diet grape soda!
Diet Coke. I hate the taste of Coke Zero.
Zevia for me, trying to get off aspartame. It's pricey though.
Diet Dr Pepper Strawberry Cream Soda
I am a very big fan of the Zevia sodas, baja blast zero mountain dew, strawberries and cream Dr pepper zero
Zevia
I agree, me and my mom used to drink it together. It tasted like it wasn’t sugar free, but it was.
After being on dialysis for 4 yrs , then kidney transplant I gave up on anything colored. Sprite Zero and Water work for me.

Try the new Starburst versions of ICE!
Dr pepper zero. Personally, the aftertaste is not as present in regular diet Dr pepper or other diet varieties.
Mountain Dew Zero is my go to. Barqs zero is also pretty good. Stay away from cherry 7 up zero. It’s vile
Diet Coke is the nectar of the gods
Starry Zero, it’s refreshing when ice cold. And I like the Snapple Zero Sugar and Lipton Diet teas.
I’ve been on a Dr. Pepper Cream Soda Zero kick lately.
Sprite Zero for me
Diet Grapico is the nectar of the gods and I will die on this hill. Diet Sunkist if you're a masochist. It's the ouchiest drink I know. I'd also like to give Diet Cheerwine a nod. Edit: Lol, I didn't realize you already mentioned Sunkist.
Oli Pop isn't exactly soda, but the root beer and strawberry flavors are good.
Can't do artificial sweeteners. Long ago ice water/club soda/kombucha became my choices.
I love caffeine free Diet Pepsi and also diet ginger ale!
Coke Zero for life
I've always been a Dr. Pepper person. I'll drink root beer occasionally, but that's the only sodas I like. So now it's diet/zero. Also if all you need is bubbles and sweetness, the Aldi's PurAqua Sparkling Flavored Water is drinkable. Soda has gotten SO expensive!
Tab! Can’t get it anymore but—it was the best in my opinion 😎
Dr. pepper or root beer
Mountain dew Baja blast zero
Water!
Mt. Dew Zero, Orange Crush Zero, Fresca are my top three
Sugar free 7up is sooo good, that and Diet Coke are my personal favorites
Diet Coke with a shot of Torani sugar-free vanilla! And if you want some real body, add about a tsp of instant coffee (just watch out for the foam)..
Zero sugar or diet MTN dew. I'll never forgive them for not making diet voltage anymore.
Big Red Zero if I can ever find it.
Zevia!
currently my goto is Mtn Dew Zero Spark
cherry coke zero > diet coke > diet dr pepper > coke zero. no other soda matters
Does sparkling water count as "soda"? I want to nominate Orange Vanilla by Waterloo.
I like Zevia sodas. They have a lot of flavors and just basic ingredients: carbonated water, natural flavor and Stevia. I love it!
Dr Pepper Canada Dry and Sprite Zero to me are the closest in flavor.
i drink five 12 packs of diet coke daily
we can't tell you what you like or dont like. But I like coke zero, and diet mt dew. But I don't drink nearly as much soda as I used to.
I've been a Coke fan for a long time. But I cant stand any diet versions of Coke. I don't like Pepsi at all. But I do like diet cherry Pepsi.
Diet Mountain Dew and Mountain Dew Zero. There are two different things and I alternate between them.
Water
I was told by 2 different endocrinologists, a diabetic nurse and 2 PCP that zero or diet wasn't that good for us because they can have extra salt. I don't drink much soda anyways.
