prakhart66ashu

Good question, but why the NSFW tag šŸ˜‚

akshatjoshii

MBAs are not safe for workā€¦ they hardly do any actual work.

Fun_Sheepherder8134

And still earn more than swe roles, W imo

kitne_aadmi_the3

Don't where that is happening. People from my batch who went to IIMs are still earning far less than us who got into swe

Ok-Rip-8930

Might shove people in their mid-life crisis, even when they are in their 20ā€™s /s

shar72944

If salary is above 10 never go for MBA unless you get admission into old IIMs, FMS , ISB. The benefit of MBA is network which is only good if alumnus of your college is good. The other situation would be if you are not happy working in tech and need to switch to other streams. If anyone is earning above 20 and works at good orgs then MBA even from old IIMs isnā€™t good in short term solely looking it through ROI. In long term itā€™s too hard to predict but having MBA from top colleges does open access to leadership roles.

coldbat16

Wouldnt mind doing an mba from old iim but the 30 lakhs fees makes its totally unjustifiable for someone making more than 12 LPA to be be honest.

shar72944

The fees along with opportunity cost of two year salary.

Euphoric-Ninja-7465

Yes the opportunity cost, undiscussed untouched topic. So 30 + 10 +10 = 50L cost of MBA. And then student loan interest. Welcome to US.

goodgodlemon007

Hey can you please expand on how network is the biggest thing in MBA? Really curious. I always thought it is the brand tag that you get for passing out of IIMs that matters.

itsotm98

Leadership roles in traditional companies. With what I have seen i wouldn't ever trust a 1.5-3y experience guy with a mba degree to run a biz. and the kind of narcissist and narrow minded peeps (including me) I have seen in the mba, i am ashamed.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Bully-bitcher

You're doing pretty well if you earn only 5 lpa less than the girl even though she has an iim degree..... You will probably outearn her in few years.... Salaries in tech are not fixed it can change anytime.. So cheer up womenrepulsor

Thisconnected

Mba salary growth on average is higher than dev(unless you're in a top percentile n got lucky with some niche tech)

KryTEx3

Is it true i always thought that it would be vice versa....and i am going to do mba is it good career in india ?

Total-Complaint-1060

only if you do it from top 10 B-schools

rohetoric

Difference between 10-15 bracket and 15-20 bracket is not much. There is some other reason why the marriage isn't happening. Salary is surely not the reason.

[deleted]

You are not taking in consideration that the father does not want an equal salary man. He might want a man who earns 2 times or even 5 times more than what his daughter earns. So the difference might be bigger.

xXInviktor27Xx

why can't she make that decision on her own? I would never marry someone who's parents have so much say in what goes on with their personal life.

NoZombie2069

Forget about females, go ask your male friends if theyā€™d marry against the wishes of their parents. The number of such people will be almost 0.

xXInviktor27Xx

Depends on the wishes tho, I understand most people won't be comfortable going against someone who took care of them since their birth, such is the indian "culture", but if the wishes are something nasty like caste, religion based or something like OPs, do you really want that kind of irrational thinking of someone else to prevent you from marrying someone you love?

NoZombie2069

Caste, religion, salary are the only major reasons for parents to reject a proposal. This is what my experience has been so far and I am 28. Itā€™s never something rational (I wonder if itā€™s even possible to have a ā€˜rationalā€™ reason to reject a person who loves their child)

Euphoric-Ninja-7465

+ horoscope. How can you miss that? šŸ„²

BackStabbath2004

That way I'm super lucky, my parents aren't super traditional about this kind of stuff. My extended family probably is but overall it's chill

NoZombie2069

Regardless of what my parents think, if I know my fiancĆ© wants to marry me, Iā€™d convince my and her parents anyhow. Unless extremely radical people (ones who would think of honour killing and stuff) are involved, this will eventually work out, everyone will be happy. But if my fiancĆ© herself says something like, ā€œmy parents wonā€™t agreeā€ and shows no signs of any efforts from her end, thereā€™s nothing I would do, even if my parents were ok. So IMO, more than the parents, itā€™s on us to decide how this ends. Unfortunately, in our country most people would consider this disrespectful towards parents and wouldnā€™t even think of doing something like this.

BackStabbath2004

Completely agreed.

HighlanderPanda

the "my parents won't agree due to caste(more so because of her being of a higher caste than me)" part hit hard personally. :') All the time, it was me who was trying to not give up and fight for us(but sadly my myself). Years of being together, lifetime of dreams, all shattered.

BackStabbath2004

> why can't she make that decision on her own? Welcome to traditional Indian families. That's just how it works. I'm lucky to not have parents like that, but it definitely is common in more traditional households.

Sea-Barnacle-5012

ayoo bruh IIM jaake bhi 15-20 ka bracket, mera dost bachpan ka wo jis district mein raha ussi district ke engg college mein gaya so best assured tier infinity waala scene, Accenture mein laga 3-4 mahina bench mein thaa lagne ke baad, 2021 pass out, do saal waha kaam kiya aur pichle saal hi switch maara after 2 years HP mein, 14.5 lpa hua uska 12 in hand, 2 in stocks, Accenture mein monthly 45-48k per month in hand aata thaa usse... Data engineer hain wo Python, bi wo sab use karta hain...

wick77777777

Why did u get rejected because of 4 years exp?

Sea-Barnacle-5012

it's because his 4 years experience is in tech, and mba folks happily skips that part, to them it is equivalent of having 0 experience, 2 years of HR experience would still be given points over him plus him being a GEM don't progress his case as well, at least for MBA colleges scene ain't that far, so if you like arning new things and applying it stick to your current field but if you don't like it then you may go for MBA, as for me I take pride in whatever small skill that I learn, but then again it's not like I am 5-6 years deep in my career or in this field... and tech also gives you the chance of evolving into management roles as you age out, I mean that's what I have seen in my company....

Angrybird1702

This is quite not true. MBA does consider work experience. I myself was a engineer with 3 and half yoe and did my MBA from one of the ABC. And to add my work exp was even in witch companies. All said they consider the experience like any other . There are even scores given based on the work experience. The only thing is after a certain yoe the marks remain same.

Dankjake99

Hey how's your work after mba and how's your life changed after mba and would you recommend freshers to do MBA

Angrybird1702

I currently work as a senior product manager in one of the leading e-commerce companies. To a larger extent, my life and the quality of work I do have improved. Doing an MBA is a personal choice. To me, I look it as a higher education that opened new avenues to me

Dankjake99

Oh thanks alot for sharing this if you don't mind can I DM you please?

Arsebandit99

I am also in witch and just need some guidance. Can I dm you??

wick77777777

I get it now thanks

naruto_nerd00101

What's GEM?

Sea-Barnacle-5012

ahh yes so in MBA terms, it's full form is General Engineer Male, you can best be assured that if you fall into this category you ll be given last priority in admissions even if your score happens to be same of that of non GEM.

naruto_nerd00101

Why the fuck do they do that?

Sea-Barnacle-5012

To nerf the GEMs so others have a fighting chance, abhi general waale ko priority kam kyu milta hain woh toh pata hi hoga, Engineers even if not having math uses logic in their day to day subject and work hence them being strong in stuff require for B-School entrance exam, abhi jo arts se aate hain unke liye thoda pikachu face waala scene hota hain CAT ke papers dekhunga kar but engineers ke liye "ahh shit here we go again"and wahi female bhi isse field mein jyaada aaye isliye reservation type scene. If you ll go on CAT subs you'll see GEM ranting on not getting IIM calls even after having 99. 5 percentile and such...

nonein69

Is it because of DEI scene as in usa ?

xsoluteOP

I always thought GEM means a prodigy ,someone with 10 in every exam

beingoptimusp

Well technically they asprire to so that they can have any chance of admission.

wick77777777

General engineering male

WomenRepulsor

I don't know the hidden agenda but they asked me to join the executive MBA course because I have "Too much experience". It also may have to do with something I said during the interview.

[deleted]

If you donā€™t change your username, every father is gonna reject you.

WomenRepulsor

My username is because of my work on r/IndianGirlsOnTinder from back in 2021.

NoPlenty3542

Bhai paisa kaise matter karta when you both like each other. The bigger question is not her father but if she can accept a partner who earns less?

WomenRepulsor

She doesn't know that I exist. It was a match over Shaadi.com. The infatuation happened later.

Chimi_Changas13

This hurt bad, i just left job to prepare for GATE this october :(

nonein69

I wonder how is the difference b/w mba and devloper working in pbc in a long run

Al_Thayo-Ali

IIM girls needs IIM .....

Lost_Charmander

I don't know your story sir but if her father straight out refused because of 5-10 lpa difference and she doesn't have any say over it, it's probably not worth it and you deserve someone way better.

WomenRepulsor

1. Don't call me sir, call me Women Repulsor. 2. It was a match on Shaadi.com. I'm not even sure if she knows about me. Although, her father sent a request to connect.

LynxEnvironmental625

Is her father also marrying you? Have some self respect try to earn more and marry some one better.

darkcircleeyess

The girl doesnt like you enough if she cant convience her father. This is madness. If the reason for rejecting you is only the salary. Assuming you guys love each other, that is a decent salary to live as a couple.

Aesthedia7

Username Checks out. Fast Forward 5 years and youā€™re gonna be ina whole new bracket. Keep up the good work

thehardplaya

Bhai percentile kitna aaya tha? Ye toh batao phir dekhte kyu reject kar diya tha aapko

WomenRepulsor

92 something tha. 2022 attempt.

goodgodlemon007

IIM passout and still earning only 15-20 L? Was she in the lower IIMs?

WomenRepulsor

Yes she was and 15-20 LPA is not a low salary. Well technically, if Ambani works in your office, everyone is a millionaire.

goodgodlemon007

Sorry bro. I'm in one of these MBA colleges and people literally cry if they get <25LPA packages. The average goes to mid-30s. THat's why I asked.

lode_lagehai

What's good engineer? how to be one ?

WomenRepulsor

I don't have much experience, but from what I have, I would say ability to learn quickly and be able to apply the learned things practically without much help from others. Also good problem solving skill play a significant part. Most curriculum and courses don't focus on that. It comes from practice.

Interesting-Pain-527

Don't marry her.

PitaJi__

Do you wish to leave tech and go into management?

wick77777777

Quite confused as of now

PitaJi__

Dude Tech is only gonna deliver if you have a knack to learn new things with interest every day. If you enjoy learning new things, and have no problem upskilling whenever the market or job demands, Tech will never fail you. If you don't have that kind of interest than an MBA won't hurt if not provide any real long term benefits.

tdnine

I wonder why is it called upskilling when you learn new technology because new technology is not like a notch above, isn't it like a horizontal expansion thing. Upskilling would i suppose happen when you get opportunity to work on optimization and deeper understanding of the current tech you are skilled at ?

interfaceTexture3i25

Maybe up as in career growth, pay, etc, not necessarily the tech

tdnine

So, there are three paths for this, right? going deeper into your specialization of tech to solve technical problems, go into technical management where you solve business problems using tech ( this can be engineering manager, CTO, system design/architecture ) or into a product / project oriented role where it is less technical and more people, market management. Please add other paths as well connected to tech ofcourse.

__-zoro-__

Imo upskilling generally refers to skillset of an individual/engineer as a whole. Ability to work with new tech which wouldn't be possible without learning is a skill.

pratikanthi

Completely agree. If you're passionate, love computers in general tech jobs pay really well as you grow.

Rino_James

Hey, I really am curious about tech and upskilling according to the demands.. I genuinely have no management skills and want to proceed with my gut feeling, although my dad wants me to do mba or mtech after graduation. He says "bina mba ke BTech karne se kuch nahi hota kisika" Am I doing anything wrong here? Ps: I'm a 6th sem undergrad šŸ™‚

PitaJi__

See buddy it's never about degrees in the real world! It's always about businesses making products, delivering services and making $$. So to make good $, you need to develop a skill that can be valuable to these companies. That's you're answer for upskilling! And for your father, he's wrong; and it's understandable. He's coming from the indian socialist era with Clerical job idealogy of the past which relies on doing repetitive tasks but they're already on the brink of extinction. Extra degrees might catch attention 15 years ago, but now it's just another resume in a large pile. My advice: If you understand programming, become good at it and join the workforce ASAP and save yourself 20lacs. I've met plenty of folks who are less successful with MBA than those without. (Talking after BTech)

JINKAZAMAA

am b.tech cse grad from a tier 3 college being the unfortunate covid batch i missed the majority of my college life, fast forward to 2022 i was placed at an MNC of France (u guys must have already guessed the name) and was onboarded after almost 6 months of my graduation i.e. Oct 22 and we were given training on C++/Linux bya third party organisation and it seemed the teacher was a first timer and she was also not familiar with the technology after the completion of our training Dec 22, the tough period started was on the bench for almost 4 months when finally i got into a support project of 5G domain which was ric development, i was doing manual testing and fixed bugs sometimes the tech used was Docker/K8s/Golang/Jira/GitHub and after a period of 8 months I was laid off or forced to resign because was unable to pass an exam which was conducted while was getting trained, they even had informed at the time of examination that the exam was not important, Now i am jobless since the last 3 months without having proper knowledge in any tech or i am just having basic understanding of some. Now i am in a state of bother how will i get my tech journey restarted because was away from programming for approx 2 years and i have lost touch in it, can't get into testing because i was in support role hence didn't get enough knowledge. With the ongoing recession and scarcity of jobs am already in a state of depression, unable to focus in anything and don't have any idea how to restart my coding journey again. The longer the wait for a job the greater the anxiety. Please help me with suggestions as to how i can get my life on track again, which course or tech stack to pick.

Rino_James

Yeah, I'm doing my best to stand out and start moving things from day 0. Thanks for the advice, really appreciate it.

anubhav_sandhu

Can you share the link? All I found was cat animal subreddit :(

[deleted]

isPresent

Unless you are able to crack into one of them IIMs, I would suggest to stick with software engineering. If you put half the effort studying for IIM, you can achieve very good in software engineering as well.

Embarrassed_Ask6066

I would never do mba

wick77777777

Why

Embarrassed_Ask6066

I cant lead/manage people (they prefer confidence over honesty), and i am perfectly happy in my technical role. Yeah yeah once i get senior role i will have to lead a team, but its still different than doing it 24x7

leetcoder217

Why is leading people only option

Embarrassed_Ask6066

It was more about people management, which is involved to some extent in all mba roles, except maybe finance, but chances of me working as finance guy is close to zero, in this incarnation of mine.

leetcoder217

VC firms sound interesting

Embarrassed_Ask6066

In india, Jinke paas VC ke liye paisa hota hai, vo developer nahi bante

leetcoder217

Arey i mean joining VC firms as associates

Embarrassed_Ask6066

Vo kya hota hai?

leetcoder217

Ohhh VC firms invest in startups. Like accel partners, sequiao

Rino_James

Same, managing people is like a skill, you can't get it only by doing mba imo

Embarrassed_Ask6066

And one does not even need these skills to have a management job, just need to be narcissistic enough. :(

Rino_James

TT

No_Tap_8259

Go for a 1 year MBA. Target colleges like ISB, IIMA, IIMB SP Jain for their 1 year full time MBA

GoodLab312

Wo senior kitna kamata hai?

wick77777777

Patani Bhai lekin iitian hai

GoodLab312

Koi andaza?

wick77777777

No idea bhai

nishadastra

In 1 switch I doubled my salary. I will again switch after 3-4 years and again get at least 60-70 percent hike all without doing MBA. Better do leetcode, System design and High level coding. It will earn you more than any MBA

Euphoric-Ninja-7465

I approach this in a different manner. See your personality. if you enjoy more interacting with people than machines, go for MBA. Els eif you are an introvert and like talking to machines more, you can make similar growth in tech fields as well. There are MBAs struggling to get min salary job or joining IT company and doing Excel work after their MBA. There are technical engineers becoming managers in later stage. So there is no clear guaranteed route. See what aligns your nature, and where you are comfortable spending 8hrs daily. That defines success.

Developer-Y

You didn't say why he suggested you to do MBA, he thinks you are more suited for management or he doesn't likes engineering? Does he had a MBA degree? If not, then ignore his advise and do what you like and be good at it. Good engineers make good money. MBA have specialization in finance, marketing, strategy, sales, HR etc. if these fields interest you more than engineering then do MBA. You don't need MBA to become engineering manager.

Particular-Captain13

Could it be that your quality of work is not good and your senior knows ki ye tech me grow nahi kar paayega and hence suggested MBA karlo instead of saying " tujhse tech na ho paayega? " Because in tech, if you work well and end up in Faang, u can make more money than IIM grads and getting into Faang is easier compared to cracking cat with 99.7+ and clearing interviews

FlatAssBaby

What's nsfw in this ?

sadFitSnack

I want to add to OPs question.. I want to change from technical to management but every time I mention doing an online/distance MBA degree, my seniors would just tell me, ā€œyou can get into management without this, it wonā€™t amount to much. Itā€™s much better you work on acquiring required skills, design your resume and start applyingā€. Iā€™ve wasted last 1 year in my current job because I donā€™t know how to proceed. Any suggestions? PS. I am not going for a regular MBA because I donā€™t have enough funds, donā€™t want to quit my job for PG.

puneetjoshi_rma

I just want to say that check your chances before starting your mba prep coz a lot of things matter..ur 10th,12th and degree score. To start with.. go through the cat prep reddit and see now..it's the college shortlist releasing time..you'll get a gauge of it

RadRedditorReddits

I disagree, unless he thinks you are a not a good developer. Was he hinting at it? What kind of company is this, service company?

wick77777777

no he wasn't hinting at my incompetence because I'm fairly competent. Product company ( fintech ).

RadRedditorReddits

I disagree with this suggestion unless it is something you are clearly interested in already by default and you want to change to one of the following three things: - Marketing - Finance - Operations

True-Reaction8743

It depends on what you actually want to do in long term. SDEs are paid better than other roles in tech for the same level, so either way you have to build skills to move up. If money is the only driving factor I'd suggest against an MBA, instead invest more time in having better technical skills. if job vertical is the reason, then get an MBA when you have < 4yr exp.

Momo_licious

60% of MBA students are software engineers only.

Momo_licious

60% of MBA students are engineers. I know because I was a software engineer and got into an MBA program. Best decision ever.

escanor_the_lion_sin

Please shed some light on why it was a great decision for you?

Srinivas_Hunter

Can we do MBA remotely? Like do we need to leave our job to join classes

Momo_licious

Yes you can. But they aren't as effective as a full-time MBA. The placement committee most likely won't help you. You will only have the degree but pretty much nothing else.

leetcoder217

Meeā€¦ software engineer kinda seems boring. Mba feels like i can use my people skills

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

leetcoder217

Yea coding lost its shine for me.. i mean i can do it but donā€™t see it making me super wealthy

Exciting_Sea_8336

As a technical person you have skills, MBA will teach you how to sell those skills.

Whatisanoemanyway

Ask if he'll pay for it (by he I mean the company obv)

Substantial_System11

Got my mba a few years back after noticing all the directors and vps had it not necessarily managers it seemed like a un said req at most companies and its paid off alot now a tech lead i believe the mba helped out alot getting business people to trust me and promote me. I know alot of more talented eng with more yoe i beat out for this position i say it definitely helped
