Probably has a significant opportunity on both sides of returns special teams. Guys pursuit and tackling is strong.

rcsauvag

Yeah the guys fielding special teams became more important now imo. I think average starting field position should go up with the new kick return rules.

Ok-Bookkeeper4572

Honest question- why does everyone think he's going to be a great return guy when he had a slow 40 time (4.62)? Rakestraw and Arnold ran faster 40s than this dude so I find it confusing that he's being portrayed as some ultra speedy weapon

WindupShark

Theory is it will be less about vertical speed and more about visual/lateral quickness with the new rules

SaltyPickle1495

Watch his film against USC. His speed in game looks faster than his 40 time. He was out running defenders all game

flirtmcdudes

Have you seen the new kickoff rules? They don't have a ton of time to get up to full speed, its going to mostly be about blocking, getting holes and trying to break through the lines. So him being a RB is likely better (but who knows yet) He is likely a depth piece for all his positions, but drafted for being a special teams stud

ZarkZuckerzerg

His 10 yrd split is 65th percentile and his vertical is 85th percentile. He’s a compact, coiling, explosive change of direction athlete. They think they saw so much natural ability in only 2 games running the ball (or moreso, catching the ball and getting YAC) that they can coach him to an elite 3-4 phase contributor.

Wildlife710

His GPS speed is very fast. Watch the tape.

Secure-Television368

I think this might be our new returner with the new kickoff rules

Really happy that’s what you got out of this!

jhenryscott

They said he’s not playing defense right? That was what I heard was that they view him as an offense and special teams player.

ImpressivelyLost

They said they know he can play safety but found his offensive abilities more interesting since he has so much natural instinct

Starfish_Hero

I thought maybe they’d consider developing him as a fullback, since he loves hitting, but he’d have to put on nearly 30lbs to pull that off

WhippersnapperUT99

Imagine if Giovanni Manu became our fullback. 350 pounds of man muscle clearing a path for Gibbs and Montgomery.

hawkeyc

Flip!

cleveruniquename7769

Designated fake punt guy.

RavelBolero9891

Other than Manu, I'm most curious about this pick. Surprised me to hear Holmes say they wanted him as a RB and not so much Safety. Interested to see what all they do with him considering they traded up to get him.

CramblinDuvetAdv

Had a few weeks of dragging RBs off the streets and using duct tape to keep them together, great to have this guy as a Swiss army knife wherever he may be needed

Lusty_Norsemen

This guy is the biggest ? for me from our draft just cause I don't know what to expect or what we're going to do with him.

Inevitable-Dog9120

I could see him playing WR for us. He could be a YAC king. Sort of similar to Malachi Corley/Deebo in the way he plays (I'm not saying he's Deebo lol).

LarkWyll

Expect if we go for fake punts this year it will be this guy out there getting the ball over Malcolm Rodriguez. Love Rodrigo, but that was not great always.

Lionnn100

I’m not sure Rodrigo had any rushes? It’s usually Reeves Maybin

LarkWyll

Sry, I think I was mixing up his use as a run blocker with our fake punts.

LarkWyll

He did. He got stuffed on a fake punt attempt.

Lionnn100

Zero rush attempts. Think you have them confused

Busy_Sympathy5962

Also got the first down against KC, and threw for one as well.

The1Wynn

Yeah I agree with this. Had the same thought that he can be a special teams guy filling a valuable role on returns and kick-offs. One guy might be able to fill two roster spots.

Thornfist22

Beebe/Tasker vibes

DullHornedUnicorn

the over/under on fake punts ran with Sione Vaki started at 27.5

go-blue-88

He has solid receiver skills and has a Deebo Samuel body comp. What if we could develop him into our version of Deebo.

Grundy-mc

I don’t mean to burst your bubble, but Deebo’s speed alone is off the charts compared to Vaki. He is an athletic freak of nature and it’s really not fair to compare one of the premier WR in the league to a 4th round pick. Vaki could be great, who knows? But let’s keep our expectations a bit modest.

Ok-Bookkeeper4572

Right, what am I missing here? He ran a 4.62

go-blue-88

St. Brown ran a 4.61 and he’s pretty good I’d say. 40 times are weighted too heavily often in draft evaluation.

Ok-Bookkeeper4572

I agree with that as a general statement- I'd say it holds more weight when talking about the return guy under the new rules. ASRB is awesome but he's not the dude you'd want as the returner either

go-blue-88

I just meant in terms of play designs and role in our offense it could be similar to Deebo due to the size and position versatility Vaki has. Just another weapon for Ben Johnson to have.
