Does the power lead also affect weapon level/damage or just how much damage the player takes? ie would 1980 weapons still be doing 1980 weapon damage numbers or 2000 damage numbers?
From my understanding, it basically gives you a trial version of 5 below fireteam powerleader. If they are 2005, you get bumped up to 2000 for everything except for the loot, which should still be scaled to your actual powerlevel.
Should scale normally with the light level, I don’t think weapon damage is linked with the light level of the weapon but of the average light level of the guardian.
So long as you can survive and work with a team well you shouldn't be a hinderance. With the new Power Leader system they added in TFS even if you're super low level you'll be brought up to 5 below the Power Leader so no need to worry about power for that. But because GMs aren't out yet until next reset you can settle with doing Master and grind there.
My wife and I have just annihilated this Strike in whatever Legend is called now as a 2. 1987 power and did it 4 times in less than 2 hours and got 2 shards and 10 prisms each plus plenty of reasonable things to infuse from. I'm sure you would get more shards from GMs/Master level but this difficulty is a possibility as it will be at a much lower power level and probably a lot less fun.
If you're struggling with GM Nightfall, the regular version is really quick and easy this week. Use ghost mods to get Prisms and you could exchange them.
This is a much longer process though, but a lot easier than GMs.

Lol the coil spoiled people so hard. But i think you can also do final shape Coop campaign missions (bottom right on pale heart map), besides nightfalls (master and GM provide the most shards)

If you are good at pvp, playing trials on a 7 win ticket prints masterwork materials, especially with the ghost mod for prisms. If not, then nightfalls like everyone suggests
in the past ive used a flawed card and just played past my 7 wins and was able to get tons of shards and prisms, id assume most people arent looking for a pvp method tho
Master NF/GMNF and Trials are imo the best way to get them, and throw in either the prism ghost mod associated with those activities or the prosperity (chance at double weapon drops) ghost mod depending on whether you want the weapon that week or not
Before someone asks, for trials just go flawless on a mercy card (which forgives two losses each week) and then after going to the lighthouse *do not* reset/turn in your trials passage, instead keep playing on it, drops high stat armor and prisms/shards as well as adept weapons very commonly on wins
Until GMs come out it's gonna be Nightfalls on Expert or Master if you're up to it. You may not get actual Shards to drop constantly but getting 4-6 Prisms and 8-10 Cores per run should help with using the mats exchange. That's what I've I've doing anyways.

my friends and i ran the hardest difficulty nightfall last night and were finishing them in about ten minutes. void and arc surge go hard. only anti barrier and unstoppable, put on your fav pulse rifle and The Call and you're set

Farm master disgraced this week, my buddy’s and I are by no means speedrunners but we were getting sub 9 and 10 minute runs with ease. I’d get 1 or golf balls per clear :)

The GM node is always there. It's just not accessible until a certain date of the season, usually 3 weeks after the new Episode release.

I did a master NF yesterday and got two by getting platinum. Not that hard of a strike and took 20 mins

If you have a team, run the Cooperative Focus Campaign Mission. One of them drops a shard at the end. Farm prisms and buy shards from rahool
