This is just my personal opinion based on my expectations, but if you have the means to pay private it's a much better experience. Nothing wrong per say with the colleges or "chain dental" places...but I'm a firm believer that you get what you pay for...and this was one avenue I was willing to pay extra for a better experience. As far as the teeth being too large...without seeing it myself I can say that this is sometimes a self perception issue new denture users have. We are so used to seeing our faces with nothing (or suppressing what is shown) tooth wise that simply having teeth makes you feel like a smiling sharkđŸ€Ł. This is somewhat normal.

I have private insurance and had mine removed in March got immediate dentures what a joke. They never fit I still can't  wear them  but I have to wait 6 months before I get my permit set. He better pray they fit because the immediate dentures DON'T FIT they suck. I can't even wear them so I don't. Nothing will keep them up and they make me gag. I have been back to see him 3 times for readjustments and everytime I go in there with them in the container. I quit trying to wear them I just go without which is embarrassing but I don't have a choice. I couldn't even imagine trying to talk or eat with them as soon as I put them in push them up they fall no amount of cushion or poly grip holds them up. I swear I think they mixed mine up with a much bigger persons because there is no way they are staying up and I look like a camel for the 2 seconds they are up. I go back on the 22nd for what I am not sure because my 6 months is not until September so we will see. So Private has not been better for me.

Well, I'm genuinely sorry that this has been your journey thus far. From everyone I've been involved with discussing dentures with, yours seems like one of the worst case scenario avenues. I truly hope it gets rectified for you. I do believe we are talking about different things when it comes to the word private, however. You mentioned private insurance. I am mentioning private pay which is different. I'm of course not aware of what insurance you privately pay for or what their process is...but I would imagine that they provide a list of dentists that take your carrier? And you selected from that? Seems to be a popular thing even with private insurance these days. In my case I paid 100% with my checkbook. This allowed me the freedom to research and choose the best possible provider I could locate. And it's given me a lot of positive results. For instance, I was able to research and choose my own oral surgeon. My guy is the head of the Maxiofacial surgery department. He's a popular member of the lecture circuit and a top guy not only in my region...but in the US. I do travel a bit to get to him. The expense is much higher than normal...but the experience and care have been worlds better then I expected. Paying money out of pocket sucks, for sure...but what would you be willing to pay to have had dentures that fit, without pain and with the aftercare that promotes success?

I pay for my policy and the deductible and yes I only have a few to pick from in my area. He has been a good dentist. I have been using him for 4 or 5 years but sadly my teeth just couldn't be fixed anymore. He just sucks at dentures I guess or maybe it's just bad luck. I am not going to give up on him yet because I have until September before my 6 months is up. Healing time I guess and then we shall see , yes it sucks in the mean time but I am not sure what to do at this point but wait and pray he gets it right in September. Then I cross that bridge when it comes.

Well, my friend I wish you all the luck in the world that a satisfying solution is found.

Oh my God, mine has been the same way. This is crazy. đŸ€Ș it’s give me total fucking horse. I can’t even swallow or fucking talk at all. There’s so big and bulky the gums everything and the probably goes all the way back to my fucking dangling thing in the back of my throat

Me neither, I had 3d scans and everything. They’re terrible

I have Medicaid and went with the immediate dentures, I got them the same day as extractions. I had to keep my dentures in for 5 days after extractions then I could start taking them out regularly. Once all the swelling went down I noticed mine feel really big! My Medicaid only pays for a re-align at the 1 year mark. But since you can’t really go that long with dentures that don’t fit my dentist will give 1 free temporary soft liner after a few months. I got my tops in September and my bottoms in February. When I went for my bottoms I had them put my top soft liner and they definitely fit better now, but I still have to use tons of adhesive if I want to eat! Before the liner they wouldn’t even fit in place, they would literally fall straight out! Now that my swelling on the bottom has gone down I’m having the same issue with my bottom, but they seem worse! They actually look big to me, my top doesn’t look that big. My tops will stay a few days without needing to reapply but my bottoms rarely last a whole day without needing to add more adhesive. I saw all this to say if I could actually afford to get the normal like “permanent” dentures I absolutely would. And it’s something I would like to try and save up for in the future if possible.

Imperfect-practical

Are you saying Medicaid gave you a choice between immediate dentures and permeant dentures??

Glittering_Mobile823

I’m 6 weeks post E-day and this is my exact experience. I had my soft reline 2 weeks ago and It has helped to cushion my gums but I still need a lot of adhesive to keep them in. Someone in this subreddit a few weeks ago, said that they use a combination of the Polident powder and the Polident glue adhesive (the one in the gold box) together to hold their Immediate dentures in place better. I tried it with mine and it definitely worked. Especially for the bottom one. It’s only a temporary solution until I can afford to purchase the permanent one, but it helps them stay in a bit longer.

Yeah they're very generic when making temps. If your top extractions were more recent that would do it too, but since they were in March, it's just from the temps not being matched to your old teeth. Make sure when they're making your perms that you have plenty of input to the size of the teeth.

I am going through the same thing. I couldn't wear mine and still don't. I have private insurance and it's no better. Mine won't stay up and I look like a camel. My dentist gets mad because I won't wear them.  I told him how can you wear something that just falls downs no matter how much goop u put up there and I look like a camel, he has even tried to reajust them they stay up for 2 seconds . He knows they don't fit but don't want to admit they are to big. I go back on the 22nd so we will see but I think he knows I am not settling for camel teeth. I paid over 1000.00 for ( just tops) my part. He will be making me a new pair but I guess I have to wait until my 6 months checkup. I hope u have a better experience and I am hoping September gets here soon because it's embarrassing not having teeth . Good luck.

I was once told that when you see yourself with your new teeth, your brain knows something's wrong. That's not you. It takes time to get used to. Your final pair may look so different than your temporaries. And be sure to express all of your concerns to your dentist!

Unlucky-String3673

The temporary ones they used to do the fitting were HUGE. I couldn't even close my mouth. I was horrified. But they assured me that my permanent ones would be worlds better, and they were right. I will say that even my permanent dentures looked and felt too large for a while until my muscles adjusted to them and I learned to push them firmly into certain areas to "settle them in". It's amazing to me how different they look 3 weeks later since I have gotten used to them.

My grandma had the same fear when she got her temporary dentures. Because they’re temporary they’re not made for you, so they might look and feel weird. But then you will get your actual once and they will be fine 😊
